Standing On The Backs

It doesn't matter how high they raise a ceiling.
It is the floor those folks need to put their feet on.
And open a few doors to exchange the foul air.
They've grown too accustomed to themselves.
And have forgotten who has fed their greeding.
As they stand on the backs of people,
Tired of their actions.
And professional abilities to deceive.

One Mans Ceiling Is Another Mans Floor

Words & music by paul simon
Theres been some hard feelings here
About some words that were said
Been some hard feelings here
And what is more
Theres been a bloody purple nose
And some bloody purple clothes
That were messing up the lobby floor
Its just apartment house rules
So all you partment fools
Remember: one mans ceiling is another mans floor!
One mans ceiling is another mans floor
Theres been some strange goins on
And some folks have come and gone
Like the elevator man dont work no more
I heard a racket in the hall
And I thought I heard a call
But I never opened up my door
Its just apartment house sense
Its like apartment rents
Remember: one mans ceiling is another mans floor!
One mans ceiling is another mans floor!
Theres an alley
In the back of my building
Where some people congregate in shame
I was walking with my dog
And the night was black with smog
When I thought I heard somebody
Call my name
Ah-- remember: one mans ceiling is another mans floor!
One mans ceiling is another mans floor!

Gloating Upon Floating Egos

Bloated from the excessive stroking,
Performed by those gloating upon floating egos.
And unknown are they impressed along the way,
They have been used as tokens, pawns and jokes.

A method used to sustain influence.
And a hopeful maintaining of those stolen gains.
Just to keep one's name buzzing amongst the mix.
And glistening to sparkle with a false integrity.

Kept as a top ten winner to deceive!
No matter the depth of the sleaze known,
By the ones considered to be common folks...
Who have grown accustomed to seeing plastic smiles.

My Heart Is Done

And now my heart is done
Tired and broken by the lies
The silence I have come accustomed to
Love presented no open doors
For each closed before my feet
And I once so loving, hope filled
Feel ashamed and defeated
Having chanced my heart over and again
For nothing but a sorrowful poem
Something penned to ease my pain
The loneliness I cannot describe
The are few who would listen anyhow
It is strange the effect of heartache
How it shapes your words and actions
Unable to communicate or trust
You become a character of occasion
Never playing a true part
Then a light a belief to risk once more
Only for nothing, nothing again
No other heart to keep company
Just another closed door
So that is it, now one too many
My heart is done

Rookie Hooked

It takes a rookie,
For some to take a look...
At actions taken,
Sometimes that can be shaky.

It takes fresh eyes,
That doesn't criticize.
Without a judgement passing,
From lips not thinking...
To blurt a crudeness,
Loud with pride

No matter how high people get,
Wishing they could fly...
There will always be a rookie hooked,
With eyes opened wide.

No matter what some people do,
To think they can't be touched.
Their reach is often teachable,
To someone who's not rooted...
To being rude and snooty!

It takes a rookie,
For some to take a look...
At actions taken,
Sometimes that can be shaky.

No matter what some people do,
To think they can't be touched.
Their reach is often teachable,
To someone who's not rooted...
To being rude and snooty!

No matter how high people get,
Wishing they could fly...
There will always be a rookie hooked,
With eyes opened wide.

A rookie hooked.
There will be a rookie hooked.
With eyes wide open...
Who decide they're qualified.

A rookie hooked.
There will be a rookie hooked.
With eyes wide open...
Who decide they're qualified.

A rookie hooked.
There will be a rookie hooked.
With eyes wide open...
Who decide they're qualified.

They Themselves Deceive

When people sell with a doing,
To those who become sold...
They themselves deceive.
With a doing done they say they do,
They themselves deceive.
They themselves deceive.
Since many possess college degrees....
In the hopes to receive achievement to get,
Competence with a common sense...
But they themselves deceive...
With minds feeding on 'bling' and greed.!

People like this are not taught how to feel,
A difference between what is fake and what's real.
They themselves deceive.
With a thinking they do this to other people,
They themselves deceive.
People like this are not taught to assess,
Correct ways to live and with honesty best.
People who cheat find it weak to confess.
They themselves deceive,
Unknowing it with doing!
They themselves deceive.

They themselves deceive!
With a making of lies to tell and sell.
They themselves deceive!
And a manifesting of this done too well.
They themselves deceive!
They themselves deceive!
They themselves deceive!
With a making of lies to tell and sell.
They themselves deceive.
With a manifesting of this done too well.

They themselves deceive.
With a growing of this to be known and shown.
They themselves deceive.
With a growing of this to be known and shown.
They themselves deceive.
They themselves deceive.

Lament For Short People (Fun Poem 12)

Even a tall person to a short person,
their problems I can relate,
tall people bump into low hanging doors,
while short people cannot reach shelves too high.
In shops there are no normal shelves,
some are near the ceiling,
while others are inches from the floor.
Normally the good stuff is put on the top shelf,
where you need a pair of stilts to reach.
Therefore, the short person has to jump up and down,
just like a jack in the box,
for anything they want.
Some short people feel intimidated,
by the tall people that they meet.
They should not be,
because size is not the difference,
but its personalities.
Now if they worked together,
they could walk at the same height.
No man is different from another,
no matter what size he is.
So short and tall people of this word,
I have but one word for both of you - unite.

Clear Karmic Debt

Some people use the phrase Born Again
to justify their actions
before their mean action begins.
They can justify actions like never before
but their mean actions can't be ignored.
For every action there is karma at stake
you will experience the same experience
likewise which you did create.
Everyone is accountable for their actions
no matter how small—
if you transgressed and hurt another
send them blessing least of all.
Or say your "Sorry" and give them a hug
it doesn't matter if you are not a thug.
So clear your karmic debt—
rethink through your actions
to live with no future regrets.

I'm tired of people treating me wrong
I'm tired of people saying I stank
I'm tired of people remembering the past
I'm tired of black people

I'm tired of selfish people
I'm tired of being the target all the time
I'm tired of feeling sad
I'm tired of people thinking there better than everybody else
I'm tired of people not appreciating me

Ethnic cleansing

It doesn’t matter what my faith is.
It doesn’t matter what my caste is.
It doesn’t matter what my complexion is.
It doesn’t matter where I live.
Above all I am a human
That should be taken into account.

The wise saying:
United we stand
Divided we fall
Is ignored
By so many people!

O the angry mob
Please don’t go for ethnic cleansing
Please don’t shed blood of another human
In the name of religion or whatever else.

Irrespective of your faith
Why don’t you think
We are all brothers and sisters
To maintain peace?

Please think with your brain
And feel with your heart
It is the only remedy
To cure your mind’s disease.

Times Like These Wont Leave

Oh it's amazing...
In these days and times,
People are still found to be...
In a deepened sleep.

And it's amazing,
In these days and times...
There are those still distant,
From believing.

And...
It doesn't matter if it's in their faces,
People are disbelieving.
It doesn't matter if it's colored blue...
People wont accept that color true.
They rather see it rosy and ready to bloom.

Yes it's amazing,
That people rather pack more on their backs...
With a closing of their eyes to facts.

It is amazing...
That people rather pack more on their backs,
With a closing of their eyes to facts and nap.

And it's amazing,
In these days and times...
There are those still distant,
From believing...
Times like these wont leave,
To keep them steadily creeping to be what they are!

Their Closest Relatives

People hypnotized and transfixed,
Have grown more accustomed
To their movie productions.
And those creative emotional TV shows.

So accustomed to myths,
People are.
And the praying to what is believed,
To what has been embedded
In their minds,
Exists.

People do not wish to be told,
About the thought process of Nature.
And how that goes.
Or about Earth and Mother Nature.
The relationship between them.
How that works and what they know.

People wish and desire to accept,
They are more powerful
Than that which 'allowed' them life,
And gave to them breath.
People reject with a dismissing of this,
That which gifted them and permitted their lives.

People have grown more accustomed,
To their movie productions.
And those creative emotional TV shows.
Yet,
Give zero respect to their closest relatives.
The Sun, The Moon
And how together,
They affect their lives lived here on Earth.

People have chosen to become accustomed,
To ignoring as if they do not hear or listen.
Or are aware of them with comprehension.

People choose not to accept this as is.
People choose to believe from that which exist,
They are not born from it.
People choose for themselves to believe,
For them
There is no connection to perceive.
Even though what is they can not conceive,
Flows through their veins and bleeds!

Rights And Wrongs

The edge of a right is again in command,
Open the doors to wounds and deliver the praise.
The country sells prices high, the region of birth
For many of the land of the people.
The actions and acts resolve as speech,
Common speech has raised the audience,
But royal speech will speak fully like the military.
Ideas drive me to command the loyal, dignified,
The backs of a jar damage the held law
As it splits not showing the description on its front,
This image of beauty so broken by now.
Rights are right, and wrongs are levels of stupor,
Yokes of the egg shall mix and create the omelette of taste.

Patted Fat Cats

They want deregulation done by government.
But from their mouths they shout and say,
They want the government away.

They want deregulation done by government.
But from their mouths they shout and say,
They want the government away.

What's wrong with greedy people,
Who just want to feed their greed.
And when the greeding stops,
They want to blame someone about it!
And...
What's wrong with greedy people,
Who just want to feed their greed.
And when the greeding stops,
They want to blame someone about it!

They don't want no more taxes.
But they want to live relaxed.
To live their lives on that high hog...
Like patted fat cats!

They don't want no more taxes.
But they want to live relaxed.
To live their lives on that high hog...
Like patted fat cats!

What's wrong with greedy people,

What's wrong with greedy people,
Who can not correct misdeeds.
What's wrong with greedy people,
Who can not correct their evils.

Who can not correct misdeeds.

What's wrong with greedy people,
And their foolish beliefs!
What's wrong with greedy people,
And their foolish beliefs!

What's wrong with greedy people,
Who can not correct their evils.

The 'Backturners

Who are those people turning their backs,
When others walk pass them.

'The young people refer to them,
As the 'backturners'.
They are quick to do that to anyone they perceive,
Have ambitions to assist them...
With needs they may have in the community.'

That makes not a bit of sense.
They do it as if they wish to offend someone.

'They do.
It is done to ensure they are noticed.
And one is suppose to have their feelings hurt,
By their actions.
It's tradition.
And visitors around the world...
Come here just to see them turn their backs.'

I don't get it.
How is this act benefitting them?

'It doesn't.
But as a tourist event?
People come here to spend their money.
And not a dime does that go towards this community.
And...
The backturners complain about it.'

Yeah...
But,
Aren't they the ones who turn their backs?

'I live here.
I'm not trying to figure that out anymore.
And all of them I know personally.'

Maybe they will listen to you?

'I'm sorry.
My ears have closed shut.
Did you say something? '

I said...
Maybe they will listen to you?

'I'm sorry.
My ears have closed shut.
Did you say something? '

To Do It Standing Tall

I've been a grown man since I was a child.
With chores, duties and responsibilities assigned,
I had to accomplish and achieve.
And I don't 'believe' this to be true.
It's a matter of fact I have lived through.

To witness adults,
Who are not grown men and/or women.
Bartering their accountability...
To escape what it takes,
To move forward without excuses...
Based upon their abilities.
Displeases my sensibilities.
Although others may find this common.

I have no patience with that at all.
I know too well what it is like...
To stand up,
And face any consequence.
And to do it standing tall.

It Doesn't Matter

Hey, how's your conscience lately
You tried so hard to please me
And now you seem so uneasy
You say that you've enough and you're out of love
It hit me like a hurricane
It hit me like a speeding train
I try to climb a mountain range
And fall down on the ground again
I thought that it would be OK
But you had other cards to play
Just like a shot from a gun
I got hurt, I got stunned
That's how it hit me
I just want to know why
Do you do this to me?
And where, is your sense of reason?
So how, could you fool me so long?
And now, watch my tenderness turn to emptiness
It hit me like a hurricane...
It doesn't matter what I do
It doesn't matter much to you
It doesn't matter what I do
It's over now, we're through
You got me feeling excited
You gad me set and ignited
But now I'm feeling so down low
Like some down-trodden hobo
It doesn't matter...
You gad me chasing illusions
You got me lost in confusion
And I'm so tired of losin'
I've got to stop, now, and not get involved with you
again
It doesn't matter...

It Really Doesn't Matter

You say your ugly, i say it doesn't matter.
You say you have a dark past,
i say it doesn't matter.
You say theirs overwhelming responsibility,
i say it doesn't matter.
I don't believe in walking away when things get hard.
In fact they are my spark to continue my march.
Through thick and thin where to begin.
You say you don't have a way.
I say it doesn't matter.
You say that you cant give back what you would like.
I say it doesn't matter.
You say, you say oh it really doesn't matter,
I live one day at a time.
Choices will be made that will save the day
but hurt me financially.
It doesn't matter Choice will be made
that will set me back in my expectations.
It doesn't matter,
It really doesn't matter.
Its well worth it.
To see the beauty that
you have placed before me.
Oh how its worth it.
To settle down and not be looking to be found.

Don't Let Your Peace Escape

Who would think just yesterday,
That giving someone a compliment today...
May offend?

Being cautious today about what one says,
Is as conscious as the effort taken...
When putting a condom on,
When going to bed.
Even if it is alone.

Some people receive threats,
Just by saying hello.
And that depends who the person is,
Wishing to exchange innocence...
To someone that one person does not know.

And being positive with comments,
Is not easily acceptible these days.
Some folks don't know how to receive them.
Believing them to be sarcasms.
And not intended as a respecting praise.

These days...
People who give 'shade' to others,
Often are the first to start rumors to ridicule.
To say to others they befriend,
How someone they 'know'...
Exposed a two faced disposition.
But eliminate the facts...
As to who began those actions to show.
And who paid who back!

Doesn't this all sound quite petty?
It really is!

But when living among those who exaggerate...
It is best to keep peace of mind.
And not become irritated.

And know who is real.
While separating them from the fake.
Appreciate those signs the fakers create.
And don't let your peace escape.
Because away from you it will be taken.
Giving those the satisfaction,
Their actions trapped and you were baited.

Carmela, My Friend

Always a fond farewell we say.
We part and wait for another day.
We meet again and know full well
all the stories we retell.
Most of them are from when we were young.
Some aren't clear. They're on the tip of our tongue.

What we've forgotten from the past
doesn't matter if it didn't last.
For friendships remain, especially the laughs.
We look at all the old photographs.
Were we that young? Hard to believe.
Pictures don't lie. They don't deceive.

You're there when I need you to hold my hand.
You're there when I've fallen. You help me to stand.
You cheer me up when I'm feeling blue.
You know me as well as I know you.
And so my friend if we have to part.
Don't be sad. We'll have another start.
