So Nothing Is Done

Do you get the feeling,
That it doesn't matter who says what...
About anyone or anything anymore.
This seems especially true...
In small towns with nohing but gossip,
For folks to value.
The more things change...
The less those who desperately need to change,
Do!
Even in big cities,
There are small minded folks!

And...
The mindsets of small town folks,
Will be guaranteed to be left reliably...
Small minded and uninvolved.
But yet upset with 'them'
Because 'they' don't 'act' like they care,
About their problems.
Those who sit on stoops...
And/or push baby carriages,
Around the blocks where their babies fathers,
Stand.
Seeking tips on good luck,
To dropp in their pockets!

They have suffered from under the rug swept stuff...
These folks!

With claims to have problems...
That have been historically ignored,
By those praying to God for solutions.
And when they come...
They don't like what has to be done!
So nothing is...
Done!
It just decays!
And folks find ways to celebrated it.

With a Multiple and Diverse Agenda

The moment I hear someone gossiped about,
With a name unheard before...
I know immediately that person is making attempts,
To get something done.

And in a small town...
Where the rights and wrongs are tossed around,
That person talked about...
Has to be a new arrival trying to do,
What others refuse or choose not to.
And that is...
Something other than snooping,
In somebody else's business!

With a doing...
Hopefully that person will learn how to do,
In disguise.
Or with a multiple and diverse agenda,
In the getting of 'something' done.

Small minded folks in smaller towns,
Are provoked easily by change.
And anyone expressing intelligence.

What It Is They Do

Some folks enjoy doing things.
While other folks 'are' what they enjoy doing!
Some folks enjoy cooking.
And then there are cooks.
Some folks enjoy singing.
And then there are those who sing.
Some folks enjoy writing.
I know I do,
And I've been told I am a writer.
Some folks have no problem,
Producing what they do.
And others will say they don't have the time.
Although they waste it telling folks,
What it is they do...
And yet nothing of that,
Ever gets done!

When a Town Is Small

No one speaks for me.
No dummy am I,
On a ventriloquist knee.
If you wish to know
What makes me tick...
Pick up your telephone,
Call me quick!
You might even find me dared to be listed!

You don't have to run to my sisters to ask,
What am I doing...
When by me you drive right pass!
And pretend you don't see me,
You do that all the time!
I've known you have been away from 'yours'...
But my mind has been with me,
All this time!
I know you enjoy your gossipying...
But I do have an open line!
And unlike you my head is not up my behind!

There is too much in life to pursue.
But folks with small minds,
Believe they have a say in what others do!
And when a town is small...
Folks like these think they know it all!

Countrified and down homey!

Age Spots and Lips That Droop

Psychotic are their problems.
Big and small ones hidden over time.
They did not have to keep them wrapped up.
They chose to medicate them,
With named brand solutions.
Given in geriatric presciptions.
With doses afforded,
And hopefully generically produced.
Or over the counter cheap solutions,
To ease symptoms of a process
Nurtured in their minds.

And these are the same folks,
Who worked to enjoy their retirements?
And I have enjoyed my life...
Knowing that when God said it was over,
That's when I would retire from it!
Not sit and rock away my time.

Of course I have been labelled crazed.
And I will never receive a gold watch,
For being that great and loyal employee.
Nor will a dime I thought was coming back to me,
In a pension plan...
Be lost or confiscated by a company drained by crooks,
Do I have to worry about.

However...
That would piss me off.
To work for the same folks for fifty or more years...
And not have a thing to show for it,
But age spots and lips that droop?
Stiffened joints and wrinkled skin?
The life from those kinds of folks,
Has been sucked from them to the marrow.
And here I am getting compliments,
For a firm behind.
And all this time,
I was working to have broad shoulders!

I have no complaints at all.
God continues to do me right!
I wake up each day with very little in my pockets.
And I feel like millions.
I go outside and see those with a few dollars...
And they would scare folks to death.
I've seen mummies in museums,
Wrapped and encased look better.

And these are the same folks,
Who worked to enjoy their retirements?
In what way...
I wonder?
Halloween only comes around once a year!

Poor Folks Town

The work is hard and the hours are long
The money aint much but we get along
Were rich in things can give
That cant be bought with a dollar bill
So, come on down
Have a look around
Rich folks livin in a poor folks town
We got no money but were rich in love
Thats one thing that weve got a-plenty of
So come on down have a look around
At rich folks livin in a poor folks town
We got no carpets on the floor
Weve got wall to wall love
Who could ask for more
We got no big fine things to show
Just a place to watch our children grow
We got no big fine fancy car to drive
And no fancy clothes to keep in style
What weve got were payin on
But its mostly love that were livin on
So, come on down
Have a look around
Rich folks livin in a poor folks town
We got no money but were rich in love
Thats one thing that weve got a-plenty of
So come on down have a look around
At rich folks livin in a poor folks town
Weve got a little simple church nearby
And the promise of a mansion in the sky
A heart of gold a million dollar smile
And a one way ticket to paradise
So, come on down
Have a look around
Rich folks livin in a poor folks town
We got no money but were rich in love
Thats one thing that weve got a-plenty of
So come on down have a look around
At rich folks livin in a poor folks town
So, come on down
Have a look around
Rich folks livin in a poor folks town
We got no money but were rich in love
Thats one thing that weve got a-plenty of
So come on down have a look around
At rich folks livin in a poor folks town

Put a Sock In It

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Today there is just too much stuff.
And people are getting fed up!

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Today there is just too much stuff.
And people are getting fed up!

Many getting sick of the pickiness started.
And when it gets sticky they can not stop.
Instigating agitation with annoyance.
Dropping all they've got to tie a mind in knots.

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Today there is just too much stuff.
And people are getting fed up!

Can't you see them strike poses and begin to 'cheese'.
Then plop on their knees,
To make their pleas.
These same folks cry about bad luck.
With claims their butts are stuck in ruts.

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Today there is just too much stuff.
And people are getting fed up!

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Folks have had enough,
And fed up!

Put a sock in it,
Maybe this will rush a hush.
Folks have had enough,
And fed up!

Folks have had enough.
Folks have had enough.
Folks have had enough.
And fed up!

Folks Who Make Claims To Be Christians

Why are there some who say,
They believe in God.
Speak in tongues.
Pass judgement on others,
And how they live.
Where they live and with who?
Express issues they have with materialism.
Usually their lack of it.
Or what someone else has.
Complain about their ailments...
With associated limitations.
And,
Are the ones to say to others,
No one understands where they are coming from.
And when asked 'why' they don't take their troubles to God?
They say...
'This has nothing to do with God! '

And these are the folks,
Who make claims to be Christians!
These are the folks,
Who produce their own problems.
And get upset,
They can not share their headaches...
With those who observe them all as hypocrites!
Seeking those they wish to inflict their afflictions.

'But isn't that demonic? '

I suppose.
However...
They do get their teachings about the 'devil'
And 'sin' on Sundays!
Perhaps they can better tell you,
What it is they do believe...
That God does for them,
And when and where that is done! '

You May Feel Superior To Most Others

You may feel superior to most others but to the scythe of the Reaper you too must fall
Your ego is overinflated but in your ways you are quite small
So full of your own self importance a small minded man in a small town
Where even the highest achiever can only daydream of renown
It is a forte of the ordinary to think in a small minded way
'Tis not hard to get to know people you know them by what they do say
Racism, rank and class distinction are siblings it does seem to me
But those who are true to the higher self do rise above the ordinary
'Tis sad to think in the twenty first century that discrimination is rife
And the homeless and poor have to struggle for to cling to their gift of life
Far too many without food or shelter and too few of their plight aware
So blessed are they with compassion for others they genuinely care
You may feel superior to others but in your ways you are so small
I salute the fair minded people those who belive in a fair go for all.

Some Folks

Some folks
Love to see red
Some folks
Never talk about it
Some folks
Crave a blue lady
Some folks
Know and still they doubt it
I'm just no good without it
I'm not a man at all
It makes my skin crawl
Baby, baby
Come on and save me, save me
My, my baby, baby,
Come on and save me now
Some folks
Love to feel pain
Some folks
Wake up every mornin'
Some folks
Live for no reason
Some folks
Die without a warning
I'm just no good without it
I'm not a man at all
It makes my skin crawl
Baby, baby
Come on and save me, save me
My, my baby, baby,
Come on and save me, save me
My, my baby, baby
Come on and save me now
I can't live without it
I just can't live without it
I don't wanna think about it
I'm just no good without it
I'm not a man at all
It makes my skin crawl
Baby, baby
Come on and save me, save me
My, my baby, baby,
Come on and save me, save me
My, my baby, baby
Come on and save me, save me,

Acceptance Threatens the Status Quo

Small towns aren't the only places...
Where acceptance is regarded,
As difficult as learning a foreign language.
And spoken although despised...
By those noncomformists criticized,
And labelled to provoke...
As mavericks.

Acceptance threatens the status quo.
Those folks choosing to maintain unconditional control...
No matter how low the deceptive use of their tactics.
And...
Innovative are those tactics!

Acceptance fosters maturing as well.
Small minds uncomfortable with this process...
Are generally threatened by growth,
And the affects of all signs of intelligence expressed.

This is as evident as the planting of weeds,
To ensure the killing of floral bloom.
And the excitement of the anticipation of it.
This kind of acceptance is an infestation.
And some folks are just as thrilled to manifest the defects!

Kiss Your Freedom Goodbye

(ed king, johnny van-zant)
I dont read the paper, I dont watch the news
Lifes good in this small town, population 62
Our bank aint been held-up since 1932
Our doors are always unlocked
But not for long Im tellin you
(chorus)
cause I know times are gonna change
I know life will never be the same
I see please tell me it aint so
Theyre all movin in surroundin me
No place left to go
My oh my you can kiss your freedom goodbye
Used to have a small town drugstore
Where old men liked to meet
That stores gone out of business
Theyre sellin drugs out in the streets
The new kids like to spray paint
Theyve got a lot to say
Sure do have a way with words
Taught me a few today
(chorus)
cause I know times are gonna change
I know life will never be the same
I see small town folks like me
Are gonna have to change the way we do things cause eventually
My oh my you can kiss your freedom goodbye
Kiss it goodbye

Small Town

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Probly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic thats me
But Ive seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an l.a. doll and brought her to this small town
Now shes small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look whos in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and thats good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And thats probly where theyll bury me

Folks Are Just Folks!

black folks just like white folks,
gotta eat, sleep, need somewhere
to stay, need a job...

just want to be treated like people,
equal in every way....

and my Hispanic neighbors,
hard working, working together,
(we could learn from that!)

taking care of families...
human beings with human needs,
just like us....

Asians, Native Americans...
all just the same....
all of us just people....

want to be treated that way!

Some Folks Lives Roll Easy

Words & music by paul simon
Some folks lives roll easy as a breeze
Drifting through a summer night
Heading for a sunny day
But most folks lives, oh they stumble
Lord they fall
Through no fault of their own
Most folks never catch their stars
And here I am, lord
Im knocking at your place of business
I know I aint got no business here
But you said if I ever got so low
I was busted,
You could be trusted
Some folks lives roll easy
Some folks lives
Never roll at all
Oh, they just fall
They just fall
Some folks lives

Indoctrinated Through Ancestry

They are here in droves...
Those me-me-I-I folks.
The ones who have been told they are attractive.
Those with slave mentalities,
And still trying to please their masters.

And I can not say how many folks there are...
Who are afraid to express too much 'identity'.
For fear they will upset someone else's wishes!
And they know what on me they can kiss!
Anyone who has a mind like this!
I'm not having none of it.
There is an addicted sickness inflicted.
Alive and well.
And profiting the few,
Who have so many messed up in their heads!

The more pretentious the folks...
One can find them driven to play charades,
On all coasts.
Wherever they are found 'coasting' and cruising!
It just seems that way.
Those on escapades and away from their identities.
And ready to please.
As if indoctrinated through ancestry!

Independance Day

Well she seemed all right by dawn's early light though she looked a
little
worried and weak. She tried to pretend he wasn't drinking again but
daddy
left the proof on her cheek. and I was only eight years old that summer
and I always seemed to be in the way so I took myself don to the fair in
town on independence day.
Well word gets around in a small, small town they said he was a dangerous
man. But momma was proud and she stood her ground, she knew she was on
the
losing end. Some folks whispered some folks talked but everybody looked
the other way and when time ran out there was no one about on
Independence
Day.
Chorus:
Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing. Let the whole world know that
today is a day of reckoning. Let the weak be strong let the right be
wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay it's independence day.
Well she lit up the sky that 4th of July by the time that the firemen
had
come. they just put out the flames and took down some names and sent me
to
the county home. Now I ain't saying that it's right or it's wrong but
maybe it's the only way Talk about your revolution, It's independence
Day
Repeat Chorus
Roll the stone away, It's Independence day.

I Marriage Is For Old Folks

Mort Shuman, Leon Carr
I love dancing
Crazy romancing
Fellas advancing constantly
Marriage is for old folks
Old folks, not for me!
One husband
One wife
Whaddya got?
Two people sentenced for life!
I love singing
Good healthy clinging
Quietly bringing on a spree
Marriage is for old folks
Cold folks!
One married he
One married she
Whaddya got?
Two people watchin' tv!
I'm not ready
to quit bein' free
And I'm not willing
to stop being me
I've gotta sing my song
Why should I belong
to some guy who says
that I'm wrong?
Doo doo dooo
de doo de doo
de-doo de-doo
doo doo doo
dooo
Cookin' dinner
Lookin' no thinner
Gray elbows and
a sudsy sea
Marriage is for old folks
Cold folks,
and it's not for me!
One husband
One wife
Whaddya got?
Two people sentenced for life!
I'm exploding
with youth and with zest
Who needs corroding
in some vulture's nest?
I've gotta fly my wings
Go places, do things
My freedom bell's really
gonna ring!
Doo doo dooo....(etc.)
I've been through years
Too many blue years
Now I want New Year's every eve
Marriage is for old folks
Marriage is for cold folks
One husband
