Romanticized As Being Better
It is closer to tomorrow than it is to yesterday.
But it seems as though those yesterdays,
Are romanticized as being better than they were.
With similar conflicts and the same stubborn people,
Who profess how green the grass use to be.
And benches under trees where people sat peacefully.
But from their lips they will not confess or admit,
They were the ones to petition their local governments...
To have the grass gravelled or paved over to replace,
With a fenced in parking lot.
To enable them to charge high prices for space,
That ensures that they will make a fast buck.

Big Yellow Taxi
They paved paradise, they put up a parking lot
A pink hotel, a boutique and a swinging hot spot
Dont it always go to show
You never know what you got till its gone ?
They paved paradise, they put up a parking lot.
They took all the trees, they put them in a tree museum
They charged the people a dollar and a half just to see them
Dont it always go to show
You never know what you got till its gone ?
They paved paradise, they put up a parking lot.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away that d.d.t
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees, please,
Dont it always go to show
You never know what you got till its gone ?
They paved paradise, they put up a parking lot.
Late last night I heard my screen door slam
A big yellow buldozer took away the house and land
Dont it always go to show
You never know what you got till its gone ?
They paved paradise, they put up a parking lot.

This Is How All Sunny Days Should Be
Green grass grows fast, green grass
I want you to grow so fast
So I can leap up, from the ground
And pretend to fly, soar so high
And then gravity, cruel, vile, unkind
Will drag me down, and shut my laugh
And then, green grass, (grow fast)
I’ll be sad of falling down
But then, my friend you’ll muffle my fall
And ill lie there
……..Calm………..
And hide, in the very green, tall,
Great, bed like grass
And then I’ll stare at the sky
(Light blue, immense sky)
And get lost in the clouds
(White, light absorbing clouds)
And then I’ll only hear the birds
And the wind brushing the branches
And the flowers will be dancing
To the rhythm of the air
And then I’ll think
“This is how all sunny days should be”
Green Green Grass Of Home
The old home town looks the same as I step off the train
Meeting every train in my mind's eye till the man in mail came
Hair like gold, lips like cherry
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
Green, green grass of home, green green grass of home.
Only dream I know of is to be found hair like gold, lips like a cherry
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
They'll all come to greet me, on the steps of my sweet dream
It's good I dreamt the green, green grass of home
I wait and look around me at the broken walls that surround me
And out here I was on the ground.
There's a garden in the path of progress unharmed through winter's day break
Then I'll touch the green, green grass of home
They'll all come to greet me from the chains of the old dark hollow
The green, green grass of home
They'll all come to greet me on the steps, my sweet dream

Green Green Grass Of Home
The old hometown looks the same
As I step down from the train
And there to meet me is my mama and papa
And down the road I look and there runs Mary
Her golden lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they've all come to meet me
Arms reaching, smiling sweetly
It's so good to touch the
Green, green grass of home.
The old house is still standing
Though the paint is cracked and dry
And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I'd walk with my sweet Mary
Her golden lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yesm they've all come
Arms reaching, smiling sweetly
It's so good to touch the
Green, green grass of home.
Then I awake and look around me
At the gray walls that surround me
And I realized that I was only dreaming
For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre
Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak
Again I'll touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes they'll all come to see me
In the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me neath the
Green, green grass of home...

Taking Loads Off Their Backs
This may be your yesterday,
Delayed with promises again to make.
With habits stated you need to break.
Dragging behind you conflicts
And arriving much too late...
For sympathies you wish to bait.
This is not that time for that.
Today people are taking loads off their backs.
Carrying sacks of baggage and issues to share...
Wont give you the empathy,
From those awakening to their own reality.
This may be your yesterday.
With a staleness you wish now to breathe.
But that isn't acceptable now and/or tomorrow!
Since yesterdays like those you bear...
Should be dropped and from them you should leave.
These are not those times anymore!
New doors have been opened.
And seeking those to help you grieve...
Will not find a warm reception.
Not here!

Through the field I See
A field of green grass awaits me.
I have been on this grass before and it brought suffering and
anguish.
I wait for the pure colors of pink and red to cover all of the
envious grass.
In this field of colors I have not experienced.
Many a people, hand in hand, take this path of red and pink.
Through many a people take the field of grass choosing the
poison of which they will drink.

Today...Tomorrow...Yesterday
Yesterdays...yesterday, oh how I yearn for
yesterday. Today, is the tomorrow we thought
about yesterday.
Today, hold close to you,
those who you love, for in the cover of darkness,
'today', will slip quietly and forever, into
yesterday.
Fill your 'today's' with the goodness
within you and your memories of yesterdays,
will be your salvation tomorrow.

And there to meet me is my mama and papa
Down the road I look and there runs mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
Its good to touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, theyll all be there to meet me,
All creatures smiling sweetly
Its good to touch the green, green grass of home
The old house is still standing,
Though the paint is cracked and dry
And theres an old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane Ill walk with my sweet mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
Its good to touch the green, green grass of home
Then I awake and look around me
Cold gray walls surround me
And I realize that I was only dreamin
Theres a guard and theres a sad old padre
Arm and arm well walk at daybreak
Again Ill touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, theyll all be there to meet me
In the shadow of that old oak tree
As they lay me beneath the green, green grass of home

The Bed of the World
The great bed of the world
arching over graves
over Babi Yar
with its multitude of bones,
with battalions of screams
frozen in a concrete glacier,
with pillows of earth
and comforters of green grass
covering all that dead flesh.
Dead flesh shall live again-
a dream in god's endless night-
rise green out of the earth
as grass, as trees, as tomato stalks
bearing a bright red fruit
and the feuds of man-and womankind
shall be fed again from the same seeds:
the tomato, the mythic pomegranate, the biblical apple
all rising from the grass that springs
out of the screams of stopped mouths.
Sometimes I dream
that my bed is built over a ravine,
the ravine of Babi Yar, any ravine
where thousands died
and I moan in pleasure to propitiate the earth,
to make fruit ripen
and trees wave green leaves like banners
all because love can touch me still.
It is never enough to create.
The beast must feed its meat teeth too.
Out of the screaming mouth of earth
we feed the grass that covers
all our beds.
I wish I did not know all that I know.
Galaxies spin, grass grows, and people kill.
We are the only race to murder for our dreams-
and not for hunger,
hungering for dreams

Complacency
the road to understanding
appears to us
fenced and paved
the way all cleared
and the grasses on the side
well trimmed
the trees grown on a line
and flowers are grouped
according to their kind
complacent we think that this is all
that there is nothing to be figured out anymore
there is nothing to be scrutinized
nothing to question
you sit inside the hut on the side of a hill
and rest and breathe the air from there
there is nothing to be done
everything is handed
and what we do is only to receive
and behave
no one jumps over the fence
no one puts another kind of flower anymore
what grass you know
is the grass that is well trimmed
nature manicured
i have long gone away from that place
i live in the forest
and struggle to communicate with the monkeys
i am clearing my own way
and building my own house on top of a tree
i am well, and i guess happier.

Every Day Under the Sun
We laughed. We danced. We lay
in the bright green grass glowing with Life.
The Sun watched us.
It smiled at us, warming our souls and bringing
us closer together. We lived peacefully,
you and I.
We bathed in the stream and played in the trees.
Life was simple,
as we were alone, with no evils to haunt us,
and though there was no Hatred,
there was Love.
And though there was no Sorrow,
there was Happiness.
Though there was no Darkness,
there was Light.
We had no Religion, Society.
All we had was the endless sky above us
and each other,
and we were happy,
as we spent every day under the Sun.

I Admit To Being Repetitive
Yes,
I admit to being repetitive...
As if to hammer in without end,
Things I choose and elect to say.
Using this format in a creative way.
But,
Is there so much love left...
The overflowing of it,
Needs not again to be expressed?
Is there an abundance of respect,
Gone unsuspected?
To leave the expectations of it,
To decay and sit in obvious neglect.
How about relationships?
Are all relationships unconditionally committed?
To satisfy the needs of people...
Found to be sighing in a constant bliss from this!
What about faith?
People confess they pray and this fulfills their needs.
Maybe that's why so many of us are not so hard to please.
Is hunger and homelessness a thing of the past?
Are conflicts and wars with us,
Here to forever last.
Yes,
I admit to being repetitive...
As if to hammer in without end,
Things I choose and elect to say.
Using this format in a creative way.
But,
When will that day come...
To free with relief from this necessity,
To comment as a writer on these things I see.
And they seem more each day to be fixed in cement!
With no updating or cures to replace,
The decadence or negativity...
With a positivity directly and sincerely meant.
Yes...
I admit to being repetitive.
And until there is a drastic change,
I guess that is the way it will be as it is!

A Rabbit As King Of The Ghosts
The difficulty to think at the end of day,
When the shapeless shadow covers the sun
And nothing is left except light on your fur—
There was the cat slopping its milk all day,
Fat cat, red tongue, green mind, white milk
And August the most peaceful month.
To be, in the grass, in the peacefullest time,
Without that monument of cat,
The cat forgotten in the moon;
And to feel that the light is a rabbit-light,
In which everything is meant for you
And nothing need be explained;
Then there is nothing to think of. It comes of itself;
And east rushes west and west rushes down,
No matter. The grass is full
And full of yourself. The trees around are for you,
The whole of the wideness of night is for you,
A self that touches all edges,
You become a self that fills the four corners of night.
The red cat hides away in the fur-light
And there you are humped high, humped up,
You are humped higher and higher, black as stone—
You sit with your head like a carving in space
And the little green cat is a bug in the grass.

Simply Living / California Grass
Fields of dark green grass
Getting sunburned in the summer.
The green turns brown, then
Bleached white gold.
The Spring brings rain;
The smell of new life
The gold turns green again
Its life seems brand new.
Grass lives so simply,
Changing with the weather.
Too bad that's not true
For people like me and you.
Simply living seems so much better
Than the way people do.

The Grass Is Blue
i've had to think of a way to survive since you said it's over told me good-bye
i just can't make it one day without you unless i pretend that the opposites true
rivers flow backwards
valleys are high
mountains are level
truth is a lie
i'm perflectly fine
and i don't miss you
the sky is green and the grass is blue
(break)
how much can a heart and a troubled mind take
where is that fine line before it all breaks
can one end their sorrow just cross over it
and into that relm of instantive bliss
there's snow in the tropics
there's ice on the sun
it's hot in the Artic
and crying is fun
and i'm alright now and i'm over you
and the sky is green
and the grass is blue
and the rivers flow backwards and my tears are dry
swans hate the water and eagles can't fly
but i'm alright now that i'm over you
and the sky is green and the grass is blue
and i don't love you and the grass is blue

Drought
Right through the veldt the grass are dried out yellow,
almost everything under the eye,
the sun burns trees and bushes,
whirlwinds blow red dust clouds high into the air
and it looks as if every bush and tree is stripped of leaves,
the sky is blue and open with all clouds missing
on farms cattle, bucks and sheep are bellowing and bleating
and farmers come to a confession
that all things comes from the hand of God, gather in towns
where they admit the dependence of man
where everything comes to a halt
and they pray to God for rain.
Even the most prominent people pray
while atheists sit in the bars
drinking tot after tot while moaning about the heat
and on the horizon lightning slams down white
while it’s pressing hot clouds gather
before a enormous rainstorm erupts,
a thunderbolt falls on the porch of a bar
rain rattles on the zinc roof
the thirsty red dust flies into the air with big drops falling,
are filled overnight with knee high green grass
and the animals that are feeding in the fields
go plumb to the markets.
