On My Futon
My futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest a bit.
You'll get a benefit of this.
My futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest a bit.
You'll feel a benefit of this.
Get off your feet,
On my futon.
Get some sleep,
On my futon.
Be at peace,
On my futon...
That peace you need to keep!
Get off your feet,
On my futon.
Get some sleep,
On my futon.
Be at peace,
On my futon...
That peace you need to keep!
My futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest up a bit.
And,
You will feel relieved!
On my futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest up a bit.
And,
You will feel relieved!
Get off your feet,
On my futon.
Get some sleep,
On my futon.
Be at peace,
On my futon...
That peace you need to keep!
On my futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest up a bit.
And,
You will feel relieved!
On my futon!
And,
You will feel relieved!
On my futon!
And,
You will feel relieved!
On my futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
And,
You will feel relieved...
And mellowed.
On my futon...
Go ahead and lay your head on it.
Go ahead and rest up a bit.
And,
You will feel relieved...
And mellowed.

9 Miles On A Dirty Futon
I spent nine miles with her.
in a cheap apartment.
Boxed wine and cheeses with exotic sounding names.
Eaten on a blanket on the floor as we had no table.
we had no couch,
we had no television.
But we had music.
At night we would lay on a futon matress
that layed on the floor.
The streetlight outside the bedroom window playing shadows across sections of her.
First her eyes were lit, the rest of her awash in shadows,
then,
when she turned,
her mouth was visible,
but her eyes were shadowed.
A breast, a thigh, her hair all illuminated
then darkened
according to her movments.
Sometimes she would lie on her back and light a cigarette.
Her whole face would light with the flash of the lighter,
like hand held lightining,
then darken again.
We would talk for hours on that futon,
I don't remember what was said...
I remember her in pieces of light and shadow.
When she smoked the light would turn the smoke in to a slow
languid serpent
escaping from her body through her mouth and nose.
I have never seen anyone smoke like that before or since.
Her face half lit by the streetlight.
She would speak and the words would drift out of her
entwined with the smoke.
She smoked like Garbo.
slow and seductive.
9 years with her and all my memories are of shadows, soft sodium streetlights, and orange cigarette glow.
9 years with her and all I remember are the lights and shadows
across her body.
On that futon matress
on the floor.

Go Ahead On
(madeline bell / dusty springfield)
If youre gonna break my heart
Go ahead on
Guess you think youre kinda smart
Go ahead on
(well youve got another girl)
And youre having fun
(got her head in a whirl)
See what youve done
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
I said go ahead on
(go ahead on)
You never call me on the phone
Make me so sad
Sittin all alone
Feelin bad
(tired of being your fool)
cause you told me lies
(I cant take no more)
Of no alibi
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
For a little while
We had a good thing goin
Everything was peaches and cream
But the devil in you started showin
Do you understand now
What I mean?
You put me down
Every night
If you wanna be a clown
Thats all right
(when its all too late)
Then youll see
(shes done the same to you)
Like you did it to me
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
You put me down
Every night
If you wanna be a clown
Thats all right
(when its all too late)
Baby youll see
(shes done the same to you)
Like you did it to me
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Git, git, git
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Youd better pack your bag
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Bye, bye, bye
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on

Steps
Maybe one step ahead, maybe two
I could ease my day a little
Maybe two steps ahead, maybe twenty
I won’t be chased in doing my work
Maybe twenty steps ahead, maybe plenty
I could enjoy my day at peace
Maybe plenty steps ahead, maybe more
I won’t be surprised by any outcome
Maybe more steps ahead, maybe none
I let my life to be freely flow
Maybe no step ahead, maybe just one
I could focus on what I want to achieve
Maybe one step ahead, maybe two
I could take a little nap
Maybe two steps ahead, maybe twenty
I won’t be alerted every time
Maybe twenty steps ahead, maybe plenty
I could prepare the worst
Maybe plenty steps ahead, maybe more
I won’t be bothered by all strategy maneuvers
Maybe more steps ahead, maybe none
I don’t really care about that anymore
Maybe no step ahead, maybe just one
I won’t waste my energy to worry

Spit It Out
Back then my life was empty
Most things around disturbed me
Messed-up and really restless
My head was filled with distless
Until the day you saved me
You made me see things clearly
Nothing is ever hopeless
Got to know how to love myself
You made me love you, me and life
(chorus:) Go ahead, spit it out, go ahead,
go ahead, spit it out
That I am stupid
Go ahead, spit it out, go ahead,
go ahead, spit it out
That I was mistaken
Go ahead, spit it out, go ahead,
go ahead, spit it out
That I missed my chances
Go ahead, spit it out, go ahead,
go ahead, spit it out
That I cannot fix it
Right now I grab my head and
Look back at what I have done
I've been a total fool
Can find no explanation
One day I could not take it
Guess things were just too perfect
So I took my stuff and left you
Though I will always love you
Thought you saved me I still left you

One Jump Ahead Of The Storm
Lightnings flashing all around me,
Thunders rolling up behind.
Big blue clouds are going to roll in
Full of tears and make me blind.
I cant let her man recatch me.
I cant stop to cry no more.
Im just running down the highway,
One jump ahead of the storm.
One jump ahead of her crying,
One jump ahead of her cold cheating arm.
One jump ahead of her lying,
One jump ahead of the storm.
One day I looked on the horizon,
Saw her love just couldnt last.
Oh, my mind was torn to pieces.
I had to leave and get out fast.
And so I slipped out of her power.
I saw my chance and I was gone
Before the rain could start to falling.
One jump ahead of the storm.
Chorus
I was one jump ahead of the storm.
Just one jump ahead of the storm.
I was one jump ahead of the storm.
Just one jump ahead of the storm.
I was one jump ahead of the storm.
Just one jump ahead of the storm.
I was one jump ahead of the storm.
Just one jump ahead of the storm.

Straight Ahead
Day by day, dream by dream.
I fight to find the way to go.
Every day opens a different door.
Every dream shadows the one before.
But slowly I can see
The way youve made for me.
Straight ahead, I can see your light.
Straight ahead, through the dark.
Straight ahead, theres no left or right.
Straight ahead, to your heart.
Carry on through the night,
When the road is hard to find.
Lying lights tell me to turn around.
Lying thoughts tell me Im lost not found.
But clearly I can see
Youre waiting there for me.
Straight ahead, I can see your light.
Straight ahead, through the dark.
Straight ahead, theres no left or right.
Straight ahead, to your heart.
Straight ahead, (straight ahead),
Straight ahead, (straight ahead),
Straight ahead, (straight ahead),
Straight ahead, (straight ahead).
Straight ahead (straight ahead), I can see your light.
Straight ahead, through the dark (through the dark).
Straight ahead, theres no left or right.
Straight ahead, to your heart.
Straight ahead....

Full Speed Ahead
Full speed ahead my child
God is right by your side
Full speed ahead my child
Hate will not come close to
Where love abides
Full speed ahead my child
No turning back
You've got nothing to hide
And He is on your side
Full speed ahead my son
You've changed the course of history
Something never thought could be done
Go forth in peace my child
Let not pride in your heart abide
Stand firm in your beliefs
As others watch in disbelief
Now full speed ahead my child
Do your job with pride
Thus saith the Lord!
For he has spoken
And his words can never be broken
As you go full speed ahead
Tarry for the living and not for the dead
Don't forget to keep the Lord in view
No matter what valley you might be travelling through
Go forth in peace my child
Full speed ahead
You are Barack Obama
Born to lead
No longer will you be judged by your color or creed
So full speed ahead
Never look back
God is taking you on a journey
He has got your back!

My Humble Request
please yourself my friend
i stop to make you walk ahead of me
you seem to follow me
and this i cannot do for another day
for i am a simple man
not even a monk that heads the
department of holiness
go ahead, walk ahead of me
for i will stop and rest awhile
to see the red rose
blooming on the mountainside.

Dark & Long
Thunder thunder lightning ahead...long
Kiss you kiss you dark and long
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Thunder thunder lightning
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Now I kiss you dark and long
Thunder thunder lightning ahead...long
Kiss you kiss you dark and long...long
Me Im just a waitress she said
I went and bought a new head she said
I look at you I believe in you she said
Screaming into the eye of the lens
I want to smash it up
I want to break it down
I want a wall of tears...to wash away
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Thunder thunder lightning
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Now I kiss you dark and long
Filled with tainted girls and motel frills
What a laugh
You was done up there mate
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
I could kiss you dark and long
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Now I kiss you dark and long
Shout your love
The stars are black
The church is sweet
My skin is hot
Thunder thunder lightning ahead
Now I kiss you dark and long
Shout your love

Life Lies Ahead
The wall is long and the fall is sheer
This is not the way to go
Who cares who wears the cocking crow?
You should not jump off the building here
Life lies ahead
The ground is hard
The cement is rough
How else can I tell you?
The going is tough
Life lies ahead
Life lies ahead
Don't ruin it
Life lies ahead
Life lies ahead
Not now
Life lies ahead
LIFE
LIES
AHEAD
GROU ND
Thanks to ignorance
The cement is stained

Sing It
SING IT
This is actually strictly dialogue between Barry and his grandfather, Joe, made circa 1951 or right around that time. They were at a "Record Your Own Voice" booth, and this is approximately how the conversation went.
JOE: All right! "A Happy Birthday", come on, go ahead, sing.
BARRY: What? What?
JOE: Sing. I have the words for you, sing it. Sing it. Sing to me! "A happy birthday to you"
BARRY: N-no, I can't! I have to go to the bathroom.
JOE: All right, go ahead, Barry, sing it, sing it! Sing it! Go ahead.
BARRY: When?
JOE: I said now. Go ahead, sing it. "Happy" Go ahead, come on. Come on, sing it! Come on, go ahead.
BARRY: How?
JOE: Like this, "Happy" Come on, go ahead. All right, my dear grandson, "A Happy Birthday". Barry's gonna sing to you a nice song. Go ahead, Barry, sing it! Go ahead, sing it! Come oncome on, Barry, sing it! Sing "A Happy Birthday". Barry, don't you want to sing it? Come on, Barry, sing itWell, I'm sorry, my dear grandson, Barry, don't want to sing for you. OK, what do you want to sing? Do you want to sing a rhumba? All right, sing the rhumba. Go ahead, Barry, sing it! Go ahead, Barry, sing it! Go ahead, Barry. Come on, sing it. Come on, Barry! You gotta talk to make a record. Don't you want to make a record? Don't you want to make a record? You want to make a record, Barry? Huh? Go ahead!

Definitely A Choice To Be Made
'What we need to do,
In a country that is accustomed...
To seeing those things done.
Is to ensure that they continue.
And...
We should move in that direction.
With those who can see ahead.
There is nothing like seeing ahead,
And being there knowing this can be done.
Everyone is not qualified to do that.
Seeing ahead.
Without looking back.
Who wants to look back?
We we should look ahead.
And that is the reason I endorse,
My campaign to stop...
Those who wish not to see,
The forest for the trees.'
~Thank you, Sarah!
What a profound and refreshing outlook.
With depth, meaning and revelation.
You are definitely a choice to be made.~

Jump
I get up, and nothing gets me down.
You got it tough. Ive seen the toughest around.
And I know, baby, just how you feel.
Youve got to roll with the punches to get to whats real
Oh cant you see me standing here,
Ive got my back against the record machine
I aint the worst that youve seen.
Oh cant you see what I mean ?
Might as well jump. jump !
Might as well jump.
Go ahead, jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Aaa-ohh hey you ! how said that ?
Baby how you been ?
You say you dont know, you wont know
Until we begin.
Well cant you see me standing here,
Ive got my back against the record machine
I aint the worst that youve seen.
Oh cant you see what I mean ?
Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.

Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.

With A Thawing Done That Has No Guarantee
You want to show and deliver to me a cold shoulder?
Go right ahead.
I can reveal to you someone,
Who will shut you off into a permanent freeze.
Dare me.
After I've shown you unconditional love?
You want to show and deliver to me a cold shoulder?
Go right ahead.
I can reveal to you someone,
Who will shut you off into a permanent freeze.
Dare me.
With a thawing done that has no guarantee.
You want to show and deliver to me a cold shoulder?
Go right ahead.
It is obvious you do not know me.
Or the life I've lived to feel I have that right...
To serve to you buckets of ice cubes,
Day and night for the rest of your life!
You want to show and deliver to me a cold shoulder?
Go right ahead.
The freezing done I do,
Will be remembered by you.
And that's not a threat!
It's a promise I will give to you to keep!
I seek from you a dare.

Go On Ahead
You go on ahead, honey
You have a good time there
You make me feel funny
Im no ordinary lover or friend
I believe we have things to do
I believe in myself and I believe in you
I believe when I sleep you are near to me
When you sleep I am near to you
You walk out of the room with your hands so deep in your pockets,
I dont recognize you
You say youre a ghost in our house and I realize
I do think I see through you
So, you go on ahead, honey
You have a good time there
You make me feel funny
Im no ordinary lover or friend
Its death in our love that has brought us here
Its a birth that has changed our lives
Its a place that I hope well be leaving soon
And I fear for the year in his eyes
And it goes around in circles
One night is lovely, the next is brutal
And you and me are in way over our heads with this one
Its hard to admit it
But you hold me and I cant feel you
We hurt but we smile
I promise Ill make it back when the summer has warmed me awhile
You go on ahead, honey
You have a good time there
You make me feel funny
Im no ordinary lover or friend
I believe we have things to do
I believe in myself and I believe in you
I believe when I sleep you are near to me
When you sleep I am near to you
