No Lines At All
I once 'starred' in a play.
Some years ago.
And one of the cast members,
Became so upset.
Because my lines got most of the applause.
That same cast member convinced the critics.
Not to mention my name,
In the review of the play.
Although the one complaining,
About my 'scene' stealing.
Had no lines at all.
Not even one to plagiarize.
And these are the people,
Who embellish their experiences.
Throughout their lives.

You know, I find it so difficult being a... as a matter of fact, little do people know that most of the leading members of the cast have a background that they would never expect them to have, and play the show they did.

Geo_metrics after XJ Kennedy Geometry
They say who play at blindman's buff,
verse trophies strive to gain,
that lines time challenge long enough
won’t find their waiting vain.
Any two lines laid parallel
which one day seem point miss
may meet with recognition well
above contemporary hiss.
Anticipation staves off curse.
Although today most spurn
my verse they surely shall rehearse
each strophe and return
thereto when Shakespeare's long forgot,
his sonnets Styx shall swallow,
while critics, p[r]etty prickly lot,
read s[l]ick screeds boomerang hollow.

Geometry
They say who play at blindman's buff
And strive to fathom space
That a straight line drawn long enough
Regains its starting place
And that two lines laid parallel
Which neither stop nor swerve
At last will meet, for, strange to tell,
Space throws them both a curve.
Such guesswork lets my hopes abide,
For though today you spurn
My heart and cast me from your side
One day I shall return;
And though at present we may go
Our lonely ways, a tether
Shall bind our paths till time be through
And we two come together.

Loose Talk Costs Lives
(b gibb)
Loose talk costs lives
People like to play
Were basically the same
We never lie
Loose talk costs lives
Dont look at me as if you dont remember me at all
There was laughter, there was pain
But I wont make the same mistakes I made
You are too beautiful to me
I hide my tears inside the rain
Am I the soul you cast your spell upon
I had control and now its gone
Or are you someone who controls my heart and mind
And I will never say a word
And I will never say goodbye
Loose talk costs lives
People like to play
Were basically the same
We never lie
Loose talk costs lives
I can see that someone hung a sign around your heart
And it reads do not return
And there is so much trouble I could cause
Someone as beautiful as you
You can feel my candle burn
And I still recall some starry night
We had it all, we held on tight
I promised I would come to you and catch you if you fall
And they will never know about us
For just one moment you were mine
Loose talk costs lives
People like to play
Were basically the same
We never lie
Loose talk costs lives
For just one moment, just one moment, you were mine
Loose talk costs lives
(our moment held in time)
People like to play
Were basically the same
We never lie
Loose talk costs lives
Loose talk costs lives
People like to play
Were basically the same
We never lie
Loose talk costs lives

0296 Casting for a new production
The second act went really well tonight,
pity it’s so near the end of the run,
it’s good enough for a West End transfer;
they’re a good bunch when we work together
no thanks, not tonight old man –
got some TV ad lines to learn,
well it’s good money for old rope…
seeyer chizmate
make-up off, stage door chat –
after a good perf., who wants to pub it,
hear yet again about how they triumphed together
in Romeo and Juliet god how many years ago
looking at them now – obscene..
*
When people used to tell me
how old people sat lost to the world
in a golden haze of memory,
I used to think
borING..! not me, not on your life…
but it’s not quite like that:
a touch of unexpected thought
may clothe loved actors in a new-stitched garb –
before you took the stage and they
were cast by you as your supporting roles –
they too were Romeo and Juliet,
throwing the curtains open on their red-eyed dawn…
and you, not even yet the twinkle
in the future’s eye…
they’d played the serving-maid, the page,
the jaunty clown, the flirt, the on-off, bright-eyed savagery -
the toilers in the burning, dusty sun,
the heroes in a life of war and peace,
had hopes you never knew or asked,
and then, invited you to join their cast…
these were such unknown people, just
as unimportant as you are seen as, now…
but loved, by those you never knew or thought of…
now, in your lean and slippered age
you can re-read their lines,
these fellow actors whom you thought
because they loved you, that you were their life…
now, as you re-write the stories of their lives,
cast them as beloved strangers

In Between The Lines
In between the lines
as we go about our lives
we often seem to think
no one loves no one cares
In between the lines
we drag our weary feet
and often think who cares
and shuffles mindless
to the beat
In between the lines
we search for gloom & doom
we come up with outrageous stories
that we plant between the lines
In between the lines
we throw caution to the wind
making out the lies
to be a bitter truth
so just bare in mind
what’s just been said
we always learn life’s mystery’s
in between the lines

People Just Love To Play With Words
Im not tryin to impress you with my lines
They dont mean nothin at all
Its just another expression of mine
It dont mean nothin at all
Mystifying, oh no
Crystalizing, you know
People just love to play with words
People just love to play, havent you heard?
People just love to play with words
People just love to play, havent you heard?
There are two sides, a win or loss
Whats two down and four across?
Analyzing and implying, you know
People just love to play with words
People just love to play, havent you heard?
People just love to play with words
People just love to play, havent you heard? ...

The tempest
I saw the Lord God fishing
while we were sailing
on a stormy sea
and gigantic waves were crashing
while He cast His lines in
landing here and there
and later landing almost everywhere.
The lines of God were blue-white
hitting the ocean and some the boat
and while the storm ripped, tossed us
to and fro
that ship almost came apart.
His lines thundered in sizzling the water
where they fell
running up through the pitch black clouds
and no gale force wind, no raging storm sea
could deny His will
while His lines
with thundering flame came in
and I looked up into that howling sky
with rain bashing against me,
wanting to see Him
and heard the sea scream
in its anger, saw the torrent wind
ripping the sails to shreds
and the storm died down instead
with a great rainbow
against the horizon up ahead
and His lines were all gone
and I didn’t see one more
and the boat set a new course
to reach the shore.

Who You Are To Me
if you read these lines this morning
these lines that miss you
these lines that say i love you
these lines are dying to touch you
to hug and kiss you
these lines that know every inch of you
if you read these lines well enough
then you know who i am

All The Critics Love U In New York
U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
U don't have 2 keep the beat
They'll still think it's neat in New York
U can wear what U want 2
It doesn't matter in New York
U could cut off all your hair
I don't think they'd care in New York
All the critics love U in New York
Why U can play what U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
They won't say that U're naive
If U play what U believe in New York
Purple love-amour is all U're in it 4
But don't show it
The reason that U're cool
Is cuz U're from the old school and they know it
All the critics love U in New York
U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U

That Which Endures
The artist, with his canvas before him,
was upset with the uncertain light.
Glowering clouds cast their shadows
on the scene he'd attempt to impart.
The dust of an angry volcano
made splendid the end of this day.
Mere memory couldn't encompass
the sunset that before him lay.
He hurried to capture the moment
as the willful Sun dashed off t0 play.
The result was a chiaroscuro -
a shading of light into dark.
Though, sadly, his vision is failing,
what endures forever is art.

The critic
The status of critics has changed,
The most important critics were those who stood on street
corners
Full of gossip and finger wagging
Or the busty burly matrons whispering over washing lines
These critics were the slanderers
The little vipers who hung by the school gate
Some still do,
This time they sink a pint or two,
In the pub with a couple of pug nose friends
But there is a class of critics
That whitewash your pale white words
Austere and aloof from the proof,
Scrubbed clean and mean,
They murder sentiment
Mock fools without 'a scene'
Redefining the 'new' 'illiterattii, ' who never went to school'
These critics wear brogues.....? ?
Am I being cruel? [or just ironic? ]
The men drink whisky
The women a gin/ vodka and tonic!
Fifty years ago they would 'parade'
In a uniforn of tweed and plaid
Post public school
But some critics just thumbnail through
Half asleep over scripts they render dead/ unread
'They are not amused'
So don't lose any sleep
They have no time you

The Woman Five Doors Down
The woman five doors down tells me her son Ted is the best player in the school football team
And that one day he will play in an A.F.L. Grand Final and that more than once of late she's had this dream
Of watching him receive the Coleman medal for best on ground on football's biggest day
Watched by well over ninety thousand people who cheer him on with a loud hip hooray.
But locals who know of football and watched Ted play say he will never play at the top grade
That he won't go down Swanston Street in the back of a lorry
to loud applause in the Grand Final Parade
They say his mother greatly over rates him and that in his team he's just an average player
And that not one in his club will play A.F.L. football with good under age players they do not compare
Ted's mother believes her son will be a football hero and she seemed so convinced that she convinced me
But others who have seen him play say different and with her opinions they do not agree
They say that she will end up disappointed that her dreams for her son will not come true
That he won't make a career out of football another line of work he must pursue.
The woman five doors down tells me her son Ted will one day play in the famed M.C.G.
And be the hero of a great Grand Final in a game that will go down in history
And though others seem to think that she's only dreaming I hope her son will be a football great
And that she will applaud him in the Grand Final and the football fans his name will celebrate.

The Actress
(orbison/melson)
Well you should be an actress
You play your part so well
Your act is so believable
That no one else can tell
You say the lines, but I see
That you dont really love me
You keep me around to be your faithful clown
Till someone you can love comes along
Youll keep on pretending
Because the show must go on
Yes, you should be an actress
As lovely as you are
The way you play on emotion
Youd shame the brightest star
Youre acting all the time
No, youre not really mine
Im just another scene in your play acting scheme
No, you dont love me at all
But when you walk away
Thats when the curtain will fall
But Ill go all the way to the end of the play
Ill be a part of your masquerade
Although I know it may be the saddest show
In the life of a fool on parade

Poetry Is A Game
POETRY IS A GAME
Poetry is a game
Almost anyone can play
You write a few lines of your feelings
And say ‘I am a poet’.
At the highest level
Poetry is also a game
But only for a few-
They play their part also
As the Poet said-
But their lines
We wish to say and say
For as long as there is ‘forever’.

As I Wind Down The Pines
As I wind down the pines
it's the lines on your face
playing on your face.
Without thinking so much
as abandoning thought
I went through open country
over water meadow streams
lakes and wires and roosts in reeds
to a nest in the hole of
this dead
tree.
To play without stopping or pause
not for silence not for applause
not without thinking
and thinking's abandoning thought.
As I wind down the pines
it's the lines on your face
playing on your face.

Without a Hint of Wisdom
Caught up in the 'what ifs' and 'whys'.
And not seeing eye to eye with a reality
That has longed called for their attention!
No one wants to mention that.
They would rather play cat and mouse games.
And play tag with an upcoming disaster!
This will be their glory!
And their claim to fame.
This they play...
Is the ignorant game,
Played their way!
Caught up in the 'what ifs' and 'whys',
Have been those who chose to lie all their lives.
Storytelling their way to prescribed drugs!
And many find them pleasant to be around.
It then becomes no secret kept as to 'why'.
This they play...
Is the ignorant game,
Played their way!
When they are seen caught up,
In the 'what ifs and 'whys' of life.
It becomes clearly understood without question,
They have been detached much longer...
Than they were thought to be deranged!
And 'this' those who know,
Have found attractive to show...
As a destination.
To astound the nonbelievers!
This they play...
Is the ignorant game,
Played their way!
For lives that stay tricked,
Without a hint of wisdom...
Exiting from their lips!
