Kept Secrets
I never had a secret.
None.
Not really.
I might have had one...
In my youth.
But my face would always reveal,
Anything I wanted to conceal.
I remember trying to lie one time.
And both my father and grandfather,
Had these eyes that would penetrate.
And made knees knock,
If truth did not come out of our mouths.
'Please...
Strip me naked but don't look at me.
I don't know nuthin'...I wasn't there! '
And...
In those days,
If anyone was going to be punished...
For any secrets leaked.
OR suspectedly kept!
We all got the ironing cord.
And it wasn't plugged up to heat.
To iron clothes with either.
Oh no.
We were lined up by age!
My youngest Aunt Ginger,
Used to be conveniently absent.
Only to appear later from places unknown.
I hated those days!
So did my aunts, uncles and cousins too.
And when my grandmother aimed...
She didn't skip a butt!
I gave any secrets I had then up.
And...
Is there really a purpose for them?
Today...
It's difficult to say what's valued and treasured.
Or,
If someone tells you something not to tell anyone else...
Why do they tell you this?
And...
Where did they get what they tell you from in the first place?
Kept secrets and spoken lies are entertainment for some.
And done without question too professionally.

You See...There Was Just Too Many Of Us!
I smell my grandmother's molasses cookies.
Deep dish apple and peach pies.
And grape preserves she would make.
And my own mother's beautiful hair,
Before she grayed.
And 'overnight'...
Seemed to have aged.
As I sit and reminisce.
About so many things I miss!
I see my grandfather,
Working in the backyard.
In the shed.
Where he 'diagnosed' the engine...
Of an old truck.
With every part of it laid in pieces.
Each of them,
Carefully spread to keep them near.
'Don't...
Move,
A thing!
Or pick it up...
Because you're curious!
I got my eye on ya! '
I hear my father say...
'It is time to get your haircut, boy.
And when you sit in that barber's chair...
You bet not make a fuss!
And don't say nothing to annoy! '
I remember my aunts and uncles...
Rushing to pick apples, grapes and pears.
From an old pig farm,
Where Chappelle Gardens now sits.
In a neighborhood in Hartford, Connecticut.
I remember this as if yesterday!
And the whippings we all shared.
Regardless...
Of who or who was not actually there!
No one was spared.
'I don't care who did what!
All of you are getting it! '
My grandmother would say!
I remember rolling my eyes...
With wishes I could run away!
~Grandma, I didn't do anything.
It was her! ~
*No it wasn't it was him! *
**No it wasn't it was them! **
You see...
There was just too many of us!
And my grandmother didn't really care.
She just wanted all of us to know...
The punishment she dealt,
Would be quick.
Honest.
And fair!
Note:
Dedicated to my wonderful family.
When we (many of us) all lived in either Stowe Village,
And/or Bellevue Square.
Tenement projects.
In separate buildings AND apartments.
Back in 'the day'.
Love you!

Secrets 4
Second: secrets of (and this is hard to translate)
secrets of estate-water-fountain secrets-for lack of a better term
secrets which pertain to people in the flow of it all
unaffected by the course of desire
of woes never having never been earned per se
what might be an example? Let's see:
that so and so is getting a yellow slip,
that so and so is up to her ears in debt,
that someone is not well:
these must be conserved for half a year
under pain of the most abysmal Karma
and leaked to no more than two informees
themselves bid to secrecy for a similar time
the better to slow the secret's progress through a curious world-
the better to calm the snakes, to calm their hissing.
Conducting these secrets, one must burn the ghostly berries of mistletoe
Don't ask me why, I didn't make the rules,
I am just repeating what I read.
But the third kind of secret
is the heart secret-
bespeaking things that happen in the dark
between two or more individuals;
secrets which whisper of the wigglings of limbs
and cinematically depict the fissuring and collapse of the will
like a sanddune sacked by a seastorm, upon the mind's eye.
These secrets are considered the most sacred:
virginal. inviolable. beloved of the deese,
and while they are young
deserving to be.....

The Idea of Ancestry
Taped to the wall of my cell are 47 pictures: 47 black
faces: my father, mother, grandmothers (1 dead), grand-
fathers (both dead), brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts,
cousins (1st and 2nd), nieces, and nephews. They stare
across the space at me sprawling on my bunk.I know
their dark eyes, they know mine.I know their style,
they know mine.I am all of them, they are all of me;
they are farmers, I am a thief, I am me, they are thee.
I have at one time or another been in love with my mother,
1 grandmother, 2 sisters, 2 aunts (1 went to the asylum),
and 5 cousins.I am now in love with a 7-yr-old niece
(she sends me letters in large block print, and
her picture is the only one that smiles at me).
I have the same name as 1 grandfather, 3 cousins, 3 nephews,
and 1 uncle. The uncle disappeared when he was 15, just took
off and caught a freight (they say). He's discussed each year
when the family has a reunion, he causes uneasiness in
the clan, he is an empty space. My father's mother, who is 93
and who keeps the Family Bible with everbody's birth dates
(and death dates) in it, always mentions him. There is no
place in her Bible for "whereabouts unknown."

Secret
Secrets are good,
Secrets are bad,
I have a secret,
It may make you sad.
Secrets deep,
Secrets shallow,
It may be hard,
To swallow.
Secrets heavy,
Secrets light,
This is to be told,
At night.
Secrets kept,
Secrets told,
This secret,
Is very old.
Secrets of love,
Secrets of hate,
This secret,
Is great.
Secret love,
Secret hate,
My secret,
Is who,
I love.
A guy so sweet,
A guy so great.
A guy so fun,
A guy so nice.
This guy is different,
This guy is a dove.
This is the guy,
Who I love.
Different is great,
Different is sweet,
No one knows us,
So it's great.
This guy is lonely,
This guy is friendless.
I like him,
And he likes me.
No one talks to him,
No one talks to me.
We are the same,
We are different.
He doesn't know,
That I love him,
Cause he knows,
We're the same.
I've no love,
He's caught a dove.
He's had no love,
He taught me how to catch a dove.
He's tall and smart,
He's sweet and friendly,
He's nice and fun,
He's the sun.
I have a secret,
One that's free like a dove,
I have a secret,
That's all about love...

(We Have) No Secrets
We have no secrets
We tell each other everything
About the lovers in our past
And why they didn't last
We share a cast of characters from
A to Z
We know each other's fantasies
And though we know each other better
when we explore
Sometimes I wish
Often I wish
That I never knew some of those
secrets of yours
The water was cold
The beach was empty but for one
Now you were lying in the sun
Wanting and needing no one
Then some child came, you never
asked for her to come
She drank a pint of your rum
And later when you told me
You said she was a bore
Sometimes I wish
Oft times I wish
That I never, never knew
Some of those secrets of yours
In the name of honesty, in the name
of what is fair
You always answer my questions
but they don't always answer my
prayers
And though I know you say that it's
me that you adore
Sometimes I wish
Often I wish
That I never, never, never knew
Some of those secrets of yours
Some of those secrets of yours
Some of those secrets of yours
We have no secrets
Telling each other most everything now

My parents didn't really understand too much about sport. At that time, we were in a Polish community in the inner city of Chicago, and I was the youngest of a bunch of cousins. Polish families are real big, with cousins and aunts and uncles.

Secrets of passion
Shivers and cries
Secrets of passion
Kisses you and lies
Secrets of passion
Floats you even higher
Secrets of passion
Crashes you into a pit o' fire
Secrets of passion
You feel deffered
Secrets of passion
Please...
Just die in vain.

Diary
Verse 1:
Lay your
Head on my pillow
Here you can be yourself
No one has to know what u are feeling
No one but me and you
Chorus:
I won't tell your secrets
Your secrets
Are safe with me
I will keep your secrets
Just think of me as the pages in your diary
Verse 2:
I feel
Such a connection
Even when your far away
If there is anything that you fear
Call 4.8.9. 46.0.8
And i'll be here
Chorus:
I wont tell your secrets
Your secrets
Are safe with me
I will keep your secrets
Just think of me as the pages in your diary
Bridge:
And only we know what is talked about
Baby boy
I don't know how you can be driving me so crazy
Boy
When you're in town
Why dont you come around
Boy
I'll be the loyalty you need
You can trust me
Boy
oooh
Chorus:
I wont tell your secrets
Your secrets
Are safe with me
I will keep your secrets
Just think of me as the pages in your diary
Adlib:
everybody say
(whooaaaa)
let me hear you say
(whooo)
I won't tell
(I won't tell)
I won't tell
(I won't tell)
I won't tell
Your secrets, your secrets
break it down
(I won't tell)

The Secret Life Of Arabia
The secret life of arabia
Secret secrets never seen
Secret secrets ever green
I was running at the speed of life
Through mornings thoughts and fantasies
Then I saw your eyes at the cross fades
Secret secrets never seen
Secret secrets ever green
The secret life of arabia
Never here never seen
Secret life ever green
The secret life of arabia
You must see the movie the sand in my eyes
I walk through a desert song when the heroine dies
Arabia (secret secret)
Arabia (secret)
Arabia (secret secret)
Arabia
Arabia (secret secret)
Arabia
Arabia (secret secret)
Arabia
Arabia (secret secret)
Arabia
Arabia (secret secret)
The secret life of arabia
Never here never seen
Secret life ever green

Mary Harriet
An empty room, an empty chair.
Recall to me the occupant
although she is no longer there.
In my minds eyes I see my aunt.
The family historian.
She knew much more than she would tell.
Knew when to speak when to abstain.
She kept the family secrets well.
I used to love to visit her
and listen to the tales she told
of her young days and how thing were
. In those far distant days of old.
Now she is gone, she was the last
who knew the secrets of the past.

Closet Man
(foster / mercury / gerrard)
Your secrets safe inside me
Closet man
Safe under lock and key
Understand
What youre thinkin is important
Isnt really so, youll see
But your secrets absolutely safe with me
Your lovers songs and nights
Turn into tears
Your tattoos and your muscles
Disappear
And the ring that I once gave you
Now, youre wearin in your ear
But your secrets absolutely safe my dear
Oh, your secrets safe with me
Oh, your secrets safe right here with me
Oh, your secrets safe with me
Oh, your secrets safe right here with me
You know, its all right to go on and live your life
So, come out into the light
Closet man
Theres nothing new at all under the sun
Youve got company
Youre not the only one
Why, its older than religion
And, quite honestly, more fun
But your secrets absolutely safe my dear, dont worry
Oh, your secrets safe with me
Oh, your secrets safe right here with me
Oh, your secrets safe with me
Oh, your secrets safe right here with me
You know, its all right to go on and live your life
So, come out into the light
Closet man, yeah
You know, its all right to go on and live your life
So, come out into the light
Closet man
You know, its all right to go on and live your life
So, come out into the light
Closet man

Truth Relative
Secrets are secret
Truth cannot expound
Everything is vanity
No comfort to be found
Truth is relative
or so it is, they say
Life for us is short
no time to dry the hay
What Truth will illumine
Lies would then conceal
with ebony tusks uncover
wounds that would not heal

No Secret Friend
I have a secret friend
No it's not what you think
My friend's not a secret
Nor is the secrets he keeps
You see he keeps his heart
On the table with me
But the rest of the world
It's secrets they see
My no secret friend
wears a joker's mask
But I can see the truth
the real, the past
My no secret friend says
his intentions are true
My no secret friend says
he has feelings for me
Does my no secret friend
have secret desires
Time will tell but till then
this moment is ours

Secrets In My Mind
Many secrets have lurked in my mind
For years I have told no one around me
Into my mind a door where they hide
And a lock on it that won't let anyone in
The only one to pass through is myself
I have the key to open the lock to my secrets
No one will ever hear the secrets that I hide
There is one thing that I will reveal
I will say that I never have revealed my true self
My real identity lies within myself
Afraid to come out and take over me
Letting everyone see who I really am in life

Secrets
[children playing]
late in September
memories I can't erase
the shiver through autumn
the memory of your face
'cause I grew much older
I wonder
whatever I could have done
to fight all the magnets
but I close my eyes
and find truth in what I'm sayin'
they thought it was all a lie
how could they deny it when I was just a
little child
secrets I kept inside me
no one can understand
secrets I had to hide
'cause no one would hold my hand when
secrets for me to know
and never for you to see
secrets for only me
emotions so bother my soul
to know that I felt much pain
I thought it would go far away
it did for the moment
find truth in what I'm sayin'
they thought it was all a lie
how could they deny it when I was just a child

The secrets of life...
As I peruse the pathways of memories within my mind,
I relive it all like a wave of emotion washing over me,
Paddling in a sea of distant dreams once lived,
My dreams have made me the man that I am today,
Yet I seek more, I yearn to know the secrets of life it's self,
To look into the eye of existance and say, 'I know you! '
The secrets of life tempt and torture me daily,
For these secrets have never been set in stone,
Open your heart and life's secrets shall be revealed...
Spread the love... The peace will follow...

Only You
Only you have the answers
But the questions you have to find
Only you know the secrets
But the truth lies deep in your mind
Only you are the answer
You turn the night into day - yeah
Only you are the manchild
You are the light and you are the way
Tell me the secrets
I wanna know
Tell me the secrets
I wanna know
Only you
Only you are the manchild
You are the light and you are the way
I cant believe this is is true
Why do I listen to you
If I am all that you say
Why am I still so afraid
Only you.... ! only you.... !
Only you.... !

In every time
A hero is born
As if by a grand design

Because Love Begets Love
you hide the shadow of a man
inside your bra
it is not funny your bra bulges like
a bone
someone hides a woman's breast inside
his pants
tits on his pockets like pebbles on the beach
there is something bitchy over there
it is laughing
someone wears a heavily tinted sunglasses
imagination thinks about someone else
hands are traitors too and feet never run away
from a confrontation of lusts
we know we have secrets and we are comfortable with all
these
without the need of telling
why
we understand
we simply want to survive the heat and
the cold
the days that torture us
torture as no more
we love these secrets and of course
these secrets love us too
love begets love
in discreet cold and comfortable places of the heart

The Secrets We Keep
we keep secrets, i keep mine, like some jewels inside my heart,
they glow in the night even on a very slight stab of light
and i keep on hiding them, covering them with so much tenderness
like silk cloth and cord keeping a love letter that i have written
(unmailed) many years ago,
i keep my secrets like i keep my life, like the way i keep my friendship with you
for years and years,
these secrets keep me alive, giving me the desires to live a good life
you sometimes ask me what these are
and i give you the hint
about my oceans of choices, and you say, these secrets must be anything
and i am telling you, no, they are not anything, because there is no such
thing as anything when you know how to love and be still true
no matter what, even if you get old and no one remembers you
and cares for you, when what is near you is nothing but just the grave
and some flowers for the dead,
sigh
you have yours too, keep them, these secrets, treasure them, more than you
treasure yourself,
these secrets are the meanings you put to your life
not really figments of your imagination, or illusions, or air, or vapor
they are something beyond that, let us say, these are the spiritual ones
ask me more, nothing in particular, these are those that exist in the ocean
of choices, and they are more than anything, if fact they can be
everything, but for one thing, let me assure you
all these have this ingredient, this element, this main part:
it is still love in there, and the rest could be anything in your mind,
that is the secret.
