It's Like That

There were many shadows,
From time to time...
In my mind,
Just hiding there...
In those crevices and cracks.

There were many shadows,
Wearing hats and caps...
And their faked grins...
Following me,
Like that.

There were many shadows,
Seen in my mind.
Shadows I'd see behind,
Other shadows...
Keeping me awake.
I could not shake them.

With messages to deliver.
Messages for me...
To pay attention.
And...
That's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
And berate it with attitude.
People get the message,
Like that.
People get the message,
Like that.
Yet berated it with attitude.
And...
It's like that.
Open your eyes to facts.
And, it's like that.
That's a fact.

Wishing to stay abused and confused...
There are people just like that.
And that's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
But they believe that they can pay...
To have things done their way,
And...
People get the message,
Just like that.
And too late...
That's a fact.

People get the message,
Just like that.
And berate it with attitude.
Wishing to stay abused and confused...
Just like that.
And that's a fact.

There were many shadows,
From time to time...
In my mind,
Just hiding there...
In those crevices and cracks.

There were many shadows,
Wearing hats and caps...
And their faked grins...
Following me,
Like that.

People get the message,
Like that..
But berated it with attitude.
And...
Today we see it living.
With moody blues to choose,
And...
It's a fact.
It's like that.

Did Anyone Know The Messenger?

What in the world,
Are they doing over there?

'Well...
It's a complicated story.
You see..
The culprit giving mouth to mouth,
Resuscitation to the messenger...
Knocked him out,
Because of a message read.
And...
Before he even began to read,
The people determined...
They didn't particularly care for his attitude.'

What did his attitude have to do,
With a message delivery?

'That's the point the messenger,
Attempted to make.
Then that guy called the messenger,
A bunch of names.
Then knocked him out.'

What was the message?

'Well..
I had to read it,
Because the others refused to get involved.'

What did the message say?

'It said...
Keep your faith, stay strong.
Love one another.
Seek and attempt peace.
And please forgive the messenger,
Delivering this message.
He has been volunteering his time,
Without any pay at all.'

Did anyone know the messenger?

'They all did!
That's what's complicated.'

Attitude

Kids kind of dirty and a light on you
But talk, talk, talk is all you can do
You want to know how to play a game of show and tell
But youre just not getting off on yourself
When you got to get a message through
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
You got to get off on yourself
And give them that attitude
You got shrink wrap rap and a prefab smile
Too much substance, not enough style
You got your new age voodoo, but that wont help
cause youre just not getting off on yourself
When you got to get a message through
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
So you got to get off on yourself
And give it the attitude
Now that youre ok and Im ok
Decide to have it out or to get away
If I didnt believe every word I say
I wouldnt be the man that I am today
It aint no secret, it dont take money
So give it to yourself, in a way its funny
Just try to do right, and it comes right through
Dont care about the donts and dos
If you want to get a message through
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
Its not what you do
Its your attitude
You got to get off on yourself, stay up on yourself
Get yourself an attitude
Its the way you walk and the way you talk
And the way you do everything you do
You got the attitude

Its Never Too Late

(d. hartman)
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Its never too late
To try and reach for your desires
Even when your luck is down
You still got chances of turning around
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Its never too late
To hold the power in your hands (power in your hands)
You will find a good, good feeling
Makin new plans and starting again
Its never too late
No, its never too late
No, its never too late no, no, no, no
No, its never too late
No, its never too late
No, its never too late
Its never too late
Time keeps changin everything
Sometimes tearin down
The treasures that it brings
Ever strong
Youll make it through
The secret lies in knowing
That its up to you
Say it with me now
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
We got the time
Theres no doubt in my mind
That its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late
Get the message
Oh, its never too late

Shadows of Hate

Hate
Fear
Anger
Love
Hiding in the shadows is now where I can feel it home so why not just
stay there
Shadow peaceful still quiet at last
So why must we all destroy them with bombs and guns and all the
flashes in the weapons still be there
Why must we always make so much noise in this world that takes away
the peacefulness of the shadows
Why must we always kill each other use so much violence in the world
to make so many into graves just because of thing like
Hate
Fear
Anger
Love
Power

All those people need to be sent into the shadows just to know what
they can truly hide from the world
To truly know all the people that love to be in shadows that grew up
living in them and know how much they can come in to hand when all
that people fear is in them
And those people all the only ones that can come even remotely close
to being truly afraid of the light
So why do people destroy the darkness
Hate
So why do people stay away from the darkness
Fear
So why must people kill the people of the shadows
Anger
What can make all people stay together even in darkness
Love
Why must people always try to control the shadows
Power

All people are evil but nobody will ever notice it
Through all their own evil will shine through

I don't necessarily believe there's a message in the fact that I'm an African-American Republican. I think there is a message that America as a whole, we are now awake. We are looking at a political construct and we're fairly disappointed. I think the message is no matter where you come from in this country, there is great potential.

(Do Not) Stand In The Shadows

Hearts which beat to a precise beat
Fading shadows on the wall
We'll cut our cards
Drive out bars
All for one, one for all.
Like teenage heat
And carnival cheats
With your heart on your sleeve
Well you know you wanna run
You won't hide
And you jump like a son of a gun
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Oh alone and lonely
Watching people on my wall
Well Mama and Dadda thought they had me fooled
I was thinking not at all
Well I got out
Not gonna stand
In the dark without a light
Forgetting love if you believe that chance
Sit and wait
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
And now the judge is down feeling
all around yeah
Lifting to a blast this sound
No preachers, teachers
Pick our minds
To the sounds of false alarm
They're here today
And they hear you say
You're alive and you're living with me
So don't try to hide
And don't try to die
In the dark of the night
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows
In the shadows, in the shadows
Do not stand in the shadows

Shadows She Said

there's no more place to go
the other bars are closed
the night the stranger came to town
how do you know
when you're right or wrong?
how do you know
if you hurt or if you don't?
so many people say so many things
but nobody agrees on anything
there's no more place to go
shadows she said
there's no more place to go
shadows she said
this night's an empty shell
shadows she said
and all the shadows followed after her
you burned the book of life
the cradle and the tomb
how could you ever dare
there's no more turning back
your stars lit up in flames
there's gunsmoke in the air
and yesterday you bought a brand-new car
but you don't feel like going very far
there's no more place to go...
there's no more place to go
shadows she said
there's no more place to go
shadows she said
this night's an empty shell
shadows she said
and all the shadows followed after her
here they come...
shadows she said...
and all the shadows followed after her...
shadows she said...

Calling All Girls

Calling all girls
Calling all boys
Calling all people on streets
Around the world
Take this message
A message for you
This message is old yeah
This message is true
This message is
Love
Take a message of love
Far and near
Take a message of love
For all to hear
For all to hear
Some sleepless nights in wait for you
Some foreign presence you feel, comes
Creeping through
Some stream of hope
The whole world through
Spread like some silent disease
Youll get yours too
This message is
Love
Take a message of love
Far and near
Take a message of love
For all to hear
For all to hear

Suffering makes a people greater, and we have suffered much. We had a message to give the world, but we were overwhelmed, and the message was cut off in the middle. In time there will be millions of us - becoming stronger and stronger - and we will complete the message.

Get The Message

(eric carmen)
Recorded by cyrus erie
Epic 10451 / 1969
Weve been goin together so long
Cant you feel that theres somethin wrong?
You only take me half way there,
Come on (come on)
Come on (come on)
We cant go on this way
While theres nothin more to say
Get the message
(come on now, come on now)
Get the message
(come on now, come on now)
Can you hear me? can you clear me?
Get the message
My bedroom walls been scaled of late
So often its become my friend
But these great lows are what Ive got to end
Come on (come on)
Come on (come on)
We cant go on this way
One more hour, one more day
Get the message
(come on, now)
(come on, now)
Get the message
(come on, now)
(come on, now)
Can you hear me? can you clear me?
Get the message
Come on (come on)
Come on (come on)
We cant go on this way
One more hour, one more day
Get the message
(come on, now)
(come on, now)
Get the message
(come on, now)
(come on, now)
Can you hear me? can you clear me?
Get the message
(come on, now)
(come on, now)
Can you hear me? can you clear me?
Get the message

Him! ...Who? ...He!

Don't you get so obsessed,
To forget what's important to you.
Remember that.
And apply that message,
Where it applies.

'What is that suppose to mean?
What are you talking about? '

I don't know,
I just deliver them.

'Deliver what? '

Messages.

'Messages?
What kind of messages?
And from whom? '

You know?
Messages from Him.

'Him?
Him who? '

You know.
Him! ...Who? ...He!

'Hem Wu Hees?
That Chinese Restaurant? '

Naw, man!
Forget it.
Forget I said anything to you.
Have a good day.

'You tell them,
My liking General Tso chicken...
Is not for public announcement.
Deliver 'that' message.
And you stay out of my business.'

Hated Shadows

Happy people
with happy faces

Do happy things
in happy places

Little to worry
little to care

Never are sorry
never are there

Through the Viel they live
they cannot see
people around them
people like me

People Invisible
people Divisible

We are not important to happy people
we do not exist
broken shadows of broken people

Happines Glows

Shadows can not exist

With their happy lives
their happy husbands and happy wives
their happy bars
their happy cars
they shine brite
like stars

The shadows
look onto the light with envy
knowing they cannot co-exist
feel hopeless
lost
sedentary
singular

Hated.

Leave Them. Leave Them Alone

When people are immuned,
To get a message that is coming...
Leave them.
Leave them alone.
When people stubbornly refuse to hear a message,
Others hear...
Just leave them,
Alone on their own.

Too many have been fitted to be limited!
So leave them.
Leave them alone.
Too many have been gifted with the flapping of lips.
So leave them.
Leave them alone.

When people are immuned,
To get a message that is coming...
Just leave them.
Leave them alone.
When people rather shuck and jive,
To realize their own survival...
Just leave them,
Alone on their own.

Too many wish to sit and make a game of it.
So leave them.
Leave them alone.
Too many rather drift and not take benefit,
So leave them...
Leave them alone.

Fools are taking numbers just to stand and wait.
So leave them.
Leave them alone.
Fools like this await for frosting on their cake.
So leave them,
To taste it alone.

Too many wish to sit and make a game of it.
So leave them.
Leave them alone.
Too many rather drift and not take benefit,
So leave them...
Leave them alone.

When people are immuned,
To get a message that is coming...
Just leave them.
Leave them alone.
When people stubbornly refuse to hear a message,
Others hear...
Just leave them,
Alone on their own.
Just leave them.
Leave them alone!

Bring The Beat Back

Black rain falling on me
Black rain is all that I see
Black rain colours the sand
Too fast I don't understand
False prophets talking about our life our destiny
Rain forest still alive sounds like a joke an irony
The air smells dirty we can all see pollution
To heal the world is not a game or an illusion
We see the world hunger not enough to eat
We close our eyes walking through the lonely streets
Strange disease there's nothing there's no cure
Cancer aids and much more we know for sure
Should we stay or run away
That's the price we have to pay
And then before we fade to grey
The message is love
The message is love
Should we stay or run away
That's the price we have to pay
And then before we fade to grey
The message is love
The message is love
Sometimes we get angry there's no focus in our life
When people get hungry they gonna learn how to survive
Homeless people concealed in the street
With no hopes and no dreams with no shoes for their feet
How many guns they have to melt they have to burn
Return to good sense when will we ever learn
Fighting this freedom for everyone for you and me
I know that this world is the place for us to be
Black rain made out of steam
Black rain to the extreme
Black rain what can we do
Too fast a nightmare comes true
Should we stay or run away
That's the price we have to pay
And then before we fade to grey
The message is love
The message is love
Should we stay or run away
That's the price we have to pay
And then before we fade to grey
The message is love
The message is love
The message is love
They've got drugs for children sniff to be free
They've got so much corruption this is all w

Even with Their Sunglasses On

I do not pussyfoot or beat around bushes.
And I don't get offers to speak sweet messages either.
Not publicly.
I am prone to be...
Less controlled by proper etiquette.
How boring can people get?

In fact...
In the middle of my presentations remembered,
People were riveted to their seats.
Undecided whether it was safe to exit,
Or stay fixed in one place to slowly breathe.

My last poetry reading...
I stripped bare!
There was static in the air.
And I needed to clear it.

And those witnessing in a state of shock,
Did their best to keep eye contact with me.
They knew I was there to deliver a message,
With a package unwrapped and firm...
Then!
And I was proud to be able to reach such heights.
The older I get,
I have noticed my emphasis has drastically changed.

Today...
People have raised their expectations much too high.
Even with their sunglasses on...
I can still tell where the focus of their attention is!
And it is not on listening to a word I have to say.
So I have discovered another more appropriate way,
To rise to the occasion.

I have not lost my ability to entertain.
It isn't easy finding more effective ways,
To handle my business.
And...
At least get 'someone' to appreciate my efforts.

Message Of Love

I, walk alone in the dark, with you
And deep, in the shadows I run, without you
And here, here I stand, the king of fools
Now loves here, where are you
Baby can you hear me
Can you hear me callin
Baby can you hear my
Message of love
Baby can you hear me
Can you hear me callin,
Baby can you hear my
Message of love
Why, have I waited so long to be there...for you
Now, now Im ready to give everything...to you
Now loves here, where are you
Baby can you hear me callin,
Baby you hear my
Message of love
Baby can you hear me
Can you hear me callin,
Baby can you hear my
Message of love
I hear...but I never listen
I see...and still Im blind
All alone...lost in the silence, Im dyin
Baby can you hear me
Can you hear me callin,
Baby can you hear my
Message of love
Baby can you hear me
Can you hear me callin,
Baby can you hear my
Message of love
Message...do you, do you. do you hear me
Do you hear my message
Baby can you hear me callin, callin
Do you, do you hear me

Funky Attitude

You don't have to 'cover' for him.
I know when I am being avoided.
I'm not 'that' slow.
I'm know what's going on.

'Why do you say that? '

Everytime I call...
He says,
'Hello. Leave a message.
And then I hear this tone.
Waiting for the message he leaves.
Then...
For no reason at all,
He hangs up the phone.

'And...uh...
Just how long have you been doing this? '

For at least a month.
Why?
Why are you looking at me like that?

'I agree.
He probaby is avoiding you.
The next time I see him.
I will ask him what you have or have not done.'

Yeah.
Please do.
Because if there is something I've done,
He should at least tell me about it.

'Oh,
I'm sure he will tell you.
Hopefully what he says,
Will not offend.'

It's not me!
I know that.
Everytime 'he' is around 'me...
I've noticed he gets into this,
Funky attitude!
And I am not a mind reader.

Shifting Shadows

Shallow people
cast shadows,
as short as
their personalities;
under hot spotlight
noon-day sun.

Baked brains
can over boil spoil;
when heart
and mind;
are not won.

Complex competent people
cast shadows;
as long as enduring
strides, they
have heartfelt run.

Like shadows
cast celebrating dawn;
or shadows long growing
before, rich
red setting sun.

True giants
of enlightening humanity

cast giant shadows;
shaped silhouette greatness;
shading humble, weak;
and innocent folk;

attaining legendary status
of fabled Loch Ness.

Shadows still
maturing long
after final
rays hung;

sealing supernova
fated faith;
of their own
glorious setting sun.
