I Was Out Shopping With A Friend
People into basking away from adulation,
And solicited flattery...
Can also be overheard comparing themselves to others,
With an accuracy unbelieved...
But entertaining in the telling of their versions,
Which sounds awfully familiar to those listening...
Until that familiarity overheard begins to become identical,
To what they had expressed to the one basking away.
'I know this is not going to be believed,
But this happened to me last week...
I was out shopping with a friend,
And we got so caught up in our conversation...
I rolled a cart full of groceries right out of the store.
AND begun to unload them in my car when the manager 'suggested'...
I MIGHT want to pay for them first.
And I wondered why all the police cars were filling up the parking lot.'

Parking Team
This is where I want to be
Standing in the coldness of winter
Standing in the hotness of summer
Directing traffic
Seeing smiles
Hearing the laughter of children
Seeing the golf cart come by
Full of laughing kids
Seeing the smiles on their faces when the cart comes
That’s what I love about the parking team!
The way I’m able to help everyone brings a smile to my face
I see familiar faces when I drive the golf cart
Those faces, those smiles, those people is what keeps me going
I enjoy every moment on the team
From putting on my vest to calling it a night
I live for those moments
During those times, that’s when I shine
I never let my glow leave
I have fun with parking
Even standing in the rain… it’s fun
This is something that I long to do every week
It’s just for less than four hours
But it’s the best part of my week
I find parking a challenge
You never know what is on its way
It could be a new spot or it could be a new route
Whatever the challenge, I will take it
I will take it and be the best
Nothing and no one will stand in my way

As we bask in sorrow
While recently having a conversation with a friend, we discussed 'basking in sorrow, ' which by definition, is an oxymoron.. bask meaning to take great pleasure or satisfaction; and sorrow meaning loss or despair.
It is possible to bask in sorrow. While for one reason or another, sadness consumes you, at the same time you could be quite happy. For example; I am naturally a happy person. Therefor while I may feel constant sadness about a certain situation, I may still be basking; or somewhat happy. (smiling, laughing, having a good time)
Many people have a sadness inside them that is hidden, or in the back of their mind at all times. These people are probably happy, can have fun, and seem to be in good cheer, while the sadness is still there, in their minds or hearts.
Therefor; we bask in sorrow.
Here we sit and bask in sorrow
Secretly begging for the morrow
A smile upon the outside face
Strength that shows as we run our race
Happiness is never too far away
Genuine cheer throughout the day
But a certain sadness wears us down
And being alone makes us frown
For this is what causes our heartache and grief
It hides under smiles, the sly little thief
So though we are basking in our sorrow today
We might soon find something to keep it at bay

Expect Some Blushing
When one sweats to deliver,
I doubt if basking in adulation
Is the purpose behind it.
Unless it has been whispered,
A good cup of coffee is served.
Then by all means,
Expect some blushing too!

Overheard At the OK Corral
Bearer of bad news?
No!
I think...
'Couldn't Remove Rose Colored Glasses
From Those Who Still Had All Season Passes
To Disneyland'...
Is a more appropriate title for those awaiting
The sounds of the bugle boy to announce,
The arrival of the calvary coming...
To defeat 'threats' overheard at the OK Corral,
By approaching terrorists!
AFTER they have finished shopping on Rodeo Drive...
And Fifth Avenue!

Fly Jeans
You say can we go shopping
For what is my reply
some new jeans that my friend just bought
They make her look so fly
I say lets go, do you know the store
And please don't make me choose
Before we go I'm telling you we're not shopping for shoes
I take a slow, long deep breath
As we walk in the store
Dam your friend has rich tastes
My wallet's felt this pain before
You squeeze into the fly jeans
As you turn around and say
Does my bum look big in these babe
Now I should run away
Does my bum look big in these babe
Once again I hear you ask
No it don't my darling
It's the fat around your ass
Rent, Groceries And Gasoline
I used to live the luxury life
A new house, three cars to drive
Steppin' over the credit line
I was payin' a heavy price
It seemed more was never enough
So I called my creditor up
Said "All I need is that cadillac car,
I'm heading for a brand new start"
I was in way to deep
Straightened out my priorities
I'm a man of simple needs
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
I got a trailer sturdy and cheap
Hot time, job work when I please
Goin' to Mexico next week
Gotta feel that ocean breeze
I might settle down sometime
Right now, it ain't on my mind
Got a pretty girl along for the ride
She's the adventurous kind
I got everything I need
Straightend out my priorities
I'm a man of simple means
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
Got a full tank and some food to go
Check the map and we'll hit the road
In the flicker of the dashboard lights
I feel my life unwind
I got everything I need
Straightend out my priorities
I'm a man of simple means
Just rent, groceries, and gasoline
Rent, groceries, and gasoline
I need rent, groceries, and gasoline
Just give me rent, groceries, and gasoline
And I'm outta here!

With Anticipation Growing As Those Holidays Approach
Words of clarity.
Deep meaning.
And sincere.
'Look...
You have chosen me,
To be your competitor.
I'm not thinking about your ass! '
And as the season of Fall begins,
With anticipation growing as those holidays approach.
There in our hearts are those tender sentiments.
To be shared and reminisced,
Today and in future seasons.
'Hey, look pal...
Screw you too!
I don't have time for this.
Are you going to use that damn shopping cart or not?
Fool! '
~What did you call me? ~
'I called you a fool, fool! '
And we pray to express out gratitude at Thanksgiving.
We unwrap those saved selected ornaments,
To decorate our homes and the beautiful Christmas Tree!
And we do this with love in out hearts!
'If I had change to give you,
I would have given it to you.
Look...
If you don't stop ringing that bell in my face,
I am going to tell the manager of this store
You are out here creating a disturbance.
Am I making myself clear?
You people always looking for hand outs! '
*What do you mean by 'you' people? *

I'm Sure You Get The Point
If you are in a conversation,
You 'thought' was being shared...
And it begins to dawn on you,
The conversation you thought for two...
Was actually a conversation of one.
And no listening to you is being done!
Pay even closer attention,
To what is being mentioned.
And...
You will begin to realize,
What's important in people's lives.
And it shouldn't take long,
For anyone listening to another...
Go on and on about themselves,
Just where they are reagarded and placed...
One someone's priority list.
'Oh?
Yeah and...I...
Uh huh, huh...yes...and I...
Uh huh.
Yep.
And you know...uh huh...okay.
Uh huh...and...uh huh.'
I'm sure you get the point!
And if you don't...
Maybe you should be the one to listen.
And let someone else say something,
While you familiarize yourself...
With the process of breathing.
You know...take a few breaths.
And learn something.

4. Best Buys
Best buy said the advert
But who decides what’s best
Is there some secret record
Or are they like the rest
The shoppers hear them shopping
Great deal’s we’re coming back
Influenced by special deals
Impressed by giant stack
This shopping is a science
With formulas for selling
Each manager has bought the stock
Head office has been telling
They told him where to stack it
In hot spots round his store
And adverts showing best buys
Would bring them back for more

Ode to Shoppers Everywhere
Shopping's a pleasure
Says the local ad
To ensure
That in parting with your cash – you'll be glad.
So it was the other day
When I was picking my way
Amongst the bags and cans
And jars of assorted brands
That I looked up to see
Coming straight for me
A lady (that's what we call them)
Riding a motorized shopping pram.
So intent was she
That I hardly had time to flee
Escape was what I intended
Otherwise my life would have surely ended
For not only was she intent on shopping pleasures
But had in tow a full size cart to hold her treasures.
With items heaped high.
There was surely no sense of others nearby
Intent and passionately she came on
Taking only a moment to select and then was gone.
Gone was she to regions of the store,
I know not where, or wanted any more
Of the terrors that perhaps lurk
Around every twist and turn
So I hastened to the check out
Forgetting what other items I was without
Glad to seek the safety of the street
Where with cars and trucks I'll gladly compete.

Odd musings of an impatient heart
A shopping cart sits alongside the road
Its taunts me as its stands there alone
Just a piece of metal to passers by
But I see that metal and swallow a sigh
And now I've had more than I can take
Its eating me up and I begin to wish
That I could leave this place for a while
Or maybe forever that would be even better
Maybe I could meet someone who is new
And his words would be only the truth
Not lies compared to the thoughts in his head
But I see this shopping cart stranded alone
Just waiting for someone to come take it home
And i wonder of all the things that could make me sad
How a lone shopping cart had the effect that it had

Accuracy
We sit in the same room
Side by side
I give you the wrong lines
Feed you
Accuracy
Accuracy
Look into my eyes
We both smile
I could kill you
Without trying
That's accuracy
Accuracy
Accuracy
...
Accuracy
Accuracy
Practice all day for accuracy
Mirror mirror on the wall

So, You Think You've Found Me
I am not here
Not in these words
not on these pages.
I know..
You think if you read
Enough
Of what I write
You'll know me inside and out..
One small problem though
(I say this as I smile)
I am no longer
Who I use to be
When I use to be
The 'She' who wrote this..
I don't publish until I've grown
From the poem I use to be
If I was her at all...
Sometimes the 'She' you read
She isn't me at all
But a friend,
Or a story I read in the paper
Or a conversation I overheard..
The she you're looking for
You'd have to confront
Ask her all the tough questions yourself.
I'm not there..
In the tattered old pages
Of the poetry book you love so much..
If you read enough
Maybe you'll get a glimpse of the girl
The fragile creature I use to be..
That innocent thing who believed
In magical things so easily..
She does make an appearance from time to time..
She was very sweet..
The me you seek, you may not find..
I hide even from myself from time to time..
I grow from day to day
Oops! You missed it,
I've already changed.
Now some things, those are constant..
But, they aren't found here
Where you look for me.

Great Plans
Overheard a teacher
the other day
Having coffee
Telling a friend
Gave this assignment
to my second graders
You're shipwrecked
on an island
Draw me a picture
then tell me a story
of what you would do
to save yourself
Boys: 'With my sword
I would do this
With my gun
I would do that'
Girls: 'I'd explore
Get some food and flowers
Build a house and
wait to get rescued'
Lots of men around here
Doing this and that
Lots of women too
Waiting to get rescued

Various Versions
Swift to come,
Are those intelligent explanations.
As if to excuse the use of common sense.
And everyone has listened to,
Adaptations of truth.
Entertaining those absent of consciousness.
Relying upon the same faces to regurgitate,
Various versions of mediocrity.
With a bit of pathos,
To invoke a connected empathy.
Yet uphill the cart continues to be pushed.

Basking In the Glow
When one's life has been spent self indulged...
Do you think they have discussions,
About someone who has sacrificed their needs?
They would not understand what that meant.
Or might find it amusing that people actually suffer,
For the cause of uplifting others.
People self indulged have no clue that's what they do!
They've become too familiar with the concept of leeching.
But then again...
This is interpreted,
As an agreement others make within themselves,
To splurge those self indulged with attention.
A need that keeps them surviving.
At the cost of someone 'basking' in the glow of their aura.
Something they 'too' find unresistable!
And one that is quickly given as if to gift.

Seldom Asked
A horse familiar with pulling a cart,
Doesn't have to be taught...
What that experience is like.
Or is in need to have details of scenes,
Described by those riding in the cart...
As the horse pulls.
A horse familiar with pulling a cart,
Doesn't have to be taught...
What that experience is like.
A horse familiar with pulling a cart...
Is seldom asked,
About anything the horse knows and has seen...
On a path that is daily traveled.
Those in the cart,
Seldom repeat the ride.
And few, if any...
Know what it is like to pull their own weight,
And others.

Auschwitz
Once I overheard a middle-aged Jewish woman
talking to her Rabbi
telling him of how she and a friend
travelled to Auschwitz
and finding so much sadness there
decided to do something happy
as if to spite the sadness.
So they danced on the railway line
leading to that camp of death-
two middle-aged women holding each other.
This to me say so much about the human spirit.
If I could I would paint a picture.
Will someone paint it for me please?

Friday Night Shopping
I went to do the shopping at the Supermarket Store
Couldn't find a trolley - so hunted round some more:
I dashed around the car park searching every trolley bay
And at last, with the one with the wonky wheel, I was on my way!
Inevitably, I met someone I'd not seen for a while
So we parked our trolleys in the middle of the aisle
Just to make shopping that bit harder for everybody else
Isn't it a pain when everyone just thinks of self/
We had a conversation about this and that
I was really pleased to see her and enjoyed our chat.
Eventually I reached the checkouts where the fun begins'
To search for the "right queue" and start unloading all my tins.
In front of me was a lady, quite mature.
She'd be quick, I was absolutely sure.
Then her cash could not be found amongst papers and all kinds of dockets
In one of those wretched handbags with about fifteen pockets.
I was glad to leave that store - I'd finished work at five - got home at seven
Sat down with a cuppa' which was pure magic, just sheer heaven!
