Holding Onto a Bar Of Soap With Oiled Hands
They are brilliant and notorious,
For coming up with the best excuses...
You will ever hear,
From their mouths to your ears.
And with incredible conviction,
You will ever witness.
But making any attempt,
To hold them accountable...
For things done they do,
Is like observing someone holding onto...
A bar of soap with oiled hands,
And hopping on one foot chewing gum.
'I've never seen that done.'
And you wont...
Anytime soon.

I.. cant read about it, burns the skin from your eyes,
Ill do fine without it, heres one you dont compromise.
Lies come hard to disguise
Let me to fight it out, not wild about it
Lay your seedy judgements, who says theyre part of our lives?
You own the money, you control the witness,
I hear youre lonely - dont monkey with my business
You pay the profits to justify the reasons
I heard your promise but I dont believe it -
Thats why Ill do it again

Excuses
Yo, whats up, this is Ginuwine
And I wanna tell you
It aint no time for excuses with your woman
You be right or you be out, ya heard
Do it right, check this is out
This is my story
Theres a time that comes in a mans life
When is real, want it all, when his mind is right
It could come at any time, morning, noon or night
You would know at the time, nothing more to fight
He might not, and I know cause Ive done the same
You know Im right there with you, dog, but she wont
play the game
She will be done packed your bags, sit em all there
right outside your door
Cause shes tired of the lyin s*** and she aint
takin no more, oh, no she aint
Excuses (Everybody has one)
Excuses (She dont wanna hear them no more, oh)
Excuses (She said take that s*** elsewhere)
Excuses (She dont wanna hear no), excuses {She dont}
Excuses (She aint got time for them)
Excuses (So dont fill her mind with them, no)
Excuses (She said take that s*** elsewhere)
Excuses (She dont wanna hear no), excuses {She dont}
Take her out, hold her hand, let her know youll die
for her
Cause thats your lady, yes, thats your baby
Shes a seed, feed her well, watch her blossom out
And only the real players out there can dig what Im
talkin bout
Be that man, be that one, do the things she loves
Pay attention, should I mention how it all was once
You broke your neck just to get her, dont you pull
back now
Cause sooner or later shell be gone, what youre
askin now
Excuses (Everybody has one)
Excuses (But she dont wanna hear them no more, oh, no
she dont)
Excuses (She said take that s*** elsewhere)
Excuses (Oh...), excuses {She dont}
Excuses (Yeah, she)
Excuses (Dont fill her mind)
Excuses (She said take that s*** else, oh, yes, she
did)
Excuses, excuses (Listen) {She dont}
Dont fake nor front, tell her now
Make your choice right now
Tell her where you stand
Youre no boy or little kid, youre grown
Standin big, young man
Think what brought that in, ooh
All that s*** youre talkin bout like you aint
heard the phone
Shes up on it, dog, shes up on it, dog
And all that fake s*** like your beeper was off
Shes up on it, dog, shes up on it, dog (Ooh...)
Excuses (Everybody gots one)
Excuses (She dont wanna hear them)
Excuses (She said take that s*** elsewhere)

A One Man's Show
now, this is my last instruction for you
hear it well: when you travel in this boat
you paddle, there is no machine
your hands are paddles
your boat your body
your steer your foot
now they do not mind you but you speak a lot
and laugh a lot
they will not comment somehow
trusting you
that you know where to go
and what to bring
and when and where to finally stop
the boat and keep it
on the other side of this big river
the point is
you will never know whether you have arrived or not
they just keep on watching
and they will hear every groaning and moaning
that your are making
as though you are making love with
someone invisible
things are complicated finally
at first you proclaim
this is a simple matter and i know fully well what is happening
but that is not the case really
when you arrive there
there will be big changes
clothes change from blue to white
you will grow a beard
and your fingers are no longer proportional to your arms
some things appear smaller than normal
and you being to
shy away from everybody who keeps on seeing you
stalking you
but their mouths are shut
like a wall
that once was a door
things are different now
very complicated
harrowing experiences of doves and bats begin to unfold
some worms scream finally
they shout your name
and you close your ears and
sleep.
the life that they call a stage
lets the curtain fall
it is the end of your show
and they all begin to leave you
alone again.

A Granting Of An Escape
When does it become one's duty,
To be held accountable for their own actions?
When does that border between,
Allowing one to locate excuses...
Separates that from one's denying,
Of making habitual mistakes...
To find fault to place blame on others,
With a granting of an escape.
When does it become one's duty,
To be held accountable for their own actions?
When does that border between,
Allowing one to locate excuses...
Separates that from one's denying,
Of making habitual mistakes.
And when will people awaken,
To discover their dishonesty...
Offers their children,
No respect or identity.
Or a dignity they pride for the rest of their lives.
What will it take...
For those with pretentions to have them erased?
More hiding places?
Or the appearance of guilty looks,
Adorning their pitiful faces?

There Wont Be Many Coming Home
(orbison/ dees)
Listen all you people
Try and understand
You may be a soldier
Woman, child or man
But there wont be many coming home
No, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many
Maybe ten out of twenty
But there wont be many coming home
Now the old folks will remember
On that dark and dismal day
How their hearts were choked with pride
As their children marched away
Now the glory is all gone
They are left alone
And there wont be many coming home
No, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many
Maybe five out of twenty
But there wont be many coming home
Look real closely at the soldier
Coming at you through the haze
He may be the younger brother who ran away
And before you kill another
Listen to what I say
Oh, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many
There may not be any
But there wont be many coming home
If they all came back but one
He was still some mothers son
And there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many coming home
Oh, there wont be many coming home.......

Children With Soap Bubbles
Like smoke the bubbles whirl up
in the wind’s frolicking game
hopping like horses that gallop
and other children have got to look out
or their eyes are going to burn.
Like smoke the bubbles whirl up
against the arms and heads of others
before they heave into the air,
hopping like horses that gallop
with children blowing over a soapy soup
soap-bubble after soap-bubble burst,
like smoke the bubbles whirl up
like balls kicked off by the wind
when mothers scold their dirty children,
hopping like horses that gallop
and later an adult looks after them
to set rules for the game,
like smoke the bubbles whirl up
hopping like horses that gallop.

Hold On To Everything
surely you have hands and surely you know how to use
your hands
like holding on tightly to joys and sorrows
holding on to pains and reliefs
holding on to misgivings and thanksgivings
and hate and love and giving and taking and speaking and silence
you hold on to whatever
in the place where you are an alien
to all things honorable and miserable, defeats and triumphs,
losses and gains, you must hold on, you must tightly hold on
to life.

Procrastinations Created to Make An Erasing
No excuses are better made,
Than those insecure that make them.
A beating around the bush,
Whether conscious or not.
Is not done quite as well...
As those who attempt to escape,
From hesitated procrastinations.
Created to make,
An erasing of their accountability!
People like this are easily offended.
Believing their disrespect for others,
Should be condoned.
People like this,
Anticipate being appreciated!
For making mediocrity enforced upon others.
With a downgrading of their expectations.
And communicating that,
To entrap as this is shown!
No excuses are better made,
Than those insecure that make them.
A beating around the bush,
Whether conscious or not.
Is not done quite as well...
As those who attempt to escape,
From hesitated procrastinations.
Created to make,
An erasing of their accountability!
And as incredible as this may be...
People extend to them patience,
With comprehension.
Instead of giving them a boot to the curb!
Asked for and deserved!
A lack of discipline should never be rewarded.

I hope that you need me too, cause,
Ooh, ooh anytime that you want me
Ooh, ooh anytime that you want me

Anything, Anytime, Anywhere
Tomorrow may come, it usually does
Don't know what it will bring to the two of us
I just want you to know
What I'm ready to do
Anything, anytime, anywhere
For you
When I'm holding you tight, you give me the power
To burn like a torch in the darkest hour
Tell me what you need
I will surely come through
Anything, anytime, anywhere
For you
Passion runs deep, it's scary sometimes
When it's larger than life or your peace of mind
It's got me all the same
And I'm not sorry that's true
Anything, anytime, anywhere
For you
Anything, anytime, anywhere
For you
Anything, anytime, anywhere
For you

Anything
(Ronnie Scaife/Phil Thomas)
Id do anything if youd just let me hold you
I'd do anything to change your mind
Climb the highest moumain or swim the deepest ocean
Anything to make you mine
Anything, anytime
Day or night, rain or shine
There ain't nothin I wont do
To get to you
Is there anything I can say to make you love me
Is there anything I haven't tried
Well Id take you 'round the world
Just to walk you down a dirt road
Anything to make you mine
Anything, anytime
Day or night, rain or shine
There ain't nothin I wont do
To get to you
Well Id give anything if I had you forever
I'd give anything to see that time
Well Id walk upon my hands up the stairway to heaven
Anything to make you mine
Anything, anytime
Day or night, rain or shine
There ain't nothin I wont do
To get to you

Cant Stop Lovin You
Theres a time and place for
Everything
For everyone
We can push with all our might
But nothins gonna come
Oh no, nothins gonna change
And if I asked you not to try
Oh could you let it be
I wanna hold you and say
We cant throw this all away
Tell me you wont go, you wont go
Do you have to hear me say
I cant stop lovin you
And no matter what I say or do
You know my heart is true, oh
I cant stop lovin you
You can change your friends
Your place in life
You can change your mind
We can change the things we say
And do anytime
Oh no, but I think youll find
That when you look inside your heart
Oh baby, Ill be there, yeah
Hold on
Im holding on
Baby, just come on, come on, come on
I just wanna hear you say
I cant stop lovin you
And no matter what you say or do
You know my heart is true, oh
I cant stop lovin you
Oh, Im so twisted and tied
And all I remember
Was how hard we tried
Only to surrender
And when its over I know how its gonna be
And true love will never die
No, not fade away
And I cant stop lovin you
No matter what I say or do
You know my heart is true, oh
I cant stop lovin you
And I know what I got to do
Hey ray, what you said is true
I cant stop lovin you, oh
Oh, I cant stop lovin you

Whats The Matter Here
[ robert buck/natalie merchant ]
That young boy without a name Id know his face.
In this city the kids my favorite.
Ive seen him. I see him every day.
Seen him run outside looking for a place to hide from his father,
The kid half naked and said to myself o, whats the matter here?
Im tired of the excuses everbody uses, hes their kid I stay out of it,
But who gave you the right to do this?
We live on morgan street;
Just ten feet between and his mother, I never see her,
But her screams and cussing, I hear them every day.
Threats like: if you dont mind I will beat on your behind,
Slap you, slap you silly.
Made me say, o, whats the matter here?
Im tired of the excuses everybody uses, hes your kid, do as you see fit,
But get this through that I dont approve of what you did to you own flesh and blood.
If you dont sit on this chair straight
Ill take this belt from around my waist and dont think that I wont use it!
Answer me and take your time,
What could be the awful crime he could do at such young an age?
If Im the only witness to your madness offer me some words to balance out what I see and what I hear.
All these cold and rude things that you do I suppose you do because he belongs to you
And instead of love, the feel of warmth youve given him these cuts and sores wont heal with time or age.
I want to say whats the matter here?
But I dont dare say.

What do you want to hear when were making love
What do you want to hear when were making love
Can I take you from behind and hold you in my arms
What do you want to hear when were making love
Can I take you from behind and feel you in my heart
What do we need to re-live to bring us close
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me
Four fall in a bed, three giving head, one getting wet
Four fall in a bed, three giving head, one getting wet
What do you want to hear when were making love
Can I hold you from behind and tell you that its me
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me
The love drug is a bug that cuts us both uo
Why dont you do those things to me
Why dont you do it of me, why dont you do those things to me
What can I say to you when were making love
I could take you from behind and make you live
What do you need me to say when were making love
I can take you from behind and then Ill forgive
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me
Why dont you do it to me
Why dont you do those things to me

Overnight Observation
(j. farrar/t. snow)
Looks like Im the only one here
Even the nurse is gone
But I guess I should wait cause when she left, she said
The doctor wont be long
So make yourself at home
His office is down the hall
Why do I feel uneasy?
I know he must be good
Got credentials all over the wall
I hear a voice behind me say
What seems to be the trouble, my dear?
Wont you be kind enough to step over here
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
Please dont think me ungrateful
But holding me overnight
Seems a little extreme
Do you always serve martinis
And turn the lights down low
Doctor, do your colleagues know?
Although you say its good for me
I really dont feel like dancing now
Somebodys waiting
And Im double-parked anyhow
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
Now, I may look stupid
But Ill tell you what, Ive been around a long time
And I thought I had heard everything
I tell you, they keep coming up with them
I just couldnt believe my ears when he said:
Kick off your shoes, relax my dear
Slip into something comfortable
Two seconds flat, Im out the door and down the hall
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)

Why Can't You Listen?
Why can't you listen?
Why can't you hear words from Me?
Why can't you sit and just be...
To listen.
Listen.
Why can't you listen?
Why can't you hear words from Me?
Why can't you sit and just be...
To listen.
Listen.
Why do you call Me?
Why do you say you're alone?
You wish for Me to appear.
And yet when I'M near.
Your closed ears wont hear Me!
Why do you pray to Me?
Master I Am of your World.
I'M with you there silently.
But you will not see...
Everything that is Me!
One I Am and only One!
Maker of your Moon, Stars and Sun.
All things on Earth that is there...
Is there if you ask,
But your faith does not last!
Why can't you listen?
Why can't you hear words from Me?
Why can't you sit and just be...
To listen.
Listen.
Why do you call Me?
Why do you say you're alone?
You wish for Me to appear.
And yet when I'M near.
Your closed ears wont hear.
A word.
Why can't you listen?
Why can't you hear words from Me?
Why can't you sit and just be...
To listen to Me.
Listen...
And let Me in!
'Father...
Clear my mind of these obstacles! '
I'M trying!
But you wish it 'your' way.
And not the way MY way is.

Chewing Gum
chewing gum
wondering where i've been and what i've done
wondering where i'll go and where i'll run
hide myself away from everyone
chewing gum
doesn't ['does it'] bother you that you're not the one
keeps you up at night in a fear of dream
to count the silver bullet of your misty
it's yours to keep
chewing gum
innocence lost in electric smiles
perfectly cast in desperate clouds ['colds']
loving with under
city lights
with all their {miles}
and all i need
is you
by my side
by my side
by my side
chewing gum
wondering where i've been and what i've done
wondering where i'll go and where i'll run
hide myself away from everyone
chewing gum
got myself a piece of
chewing gum
got myself a piece of

got myself a piece of
