Fort Hood

Young then,
And committed.
Feeling patriotic...
Obligated.
With desires to protect.
A country loved with much respect.

Much now has transpired,
Since those days I enlisted.
And wanting to whip some ass.
In the military wanting to save,
Rights of my family and others.
No one had to ask.
Too proud I was of the task.

Today my sorrows are with soldiers,
At Fort Hood.
And those who died unexpectedly
Shot and shocked,
By one of their own.
With intentions unknown.

And here I sit,
Wanting and trying to make sense...
Of all of this.

I knew when I was an airman then,
My devotion was unquestionable...
Towards my fellow comrades,
Family and friends.
And I...
For the life of me,
Will never comprehend...
How someone can harm their own.
And wear the uniform of trust.
Others rely upon and depend.

My heart goes out to those at Fort Hood.
The soldiers who wear their uniforms.
With a quest to sacrifice their lives,
Day and night.
And even though actions of one,
Will never make a horrible action understood.
As a veteran I offer my empathy to give.
Knowing your tears weeped,
Will be with you for a while to keep.

We can only pray those conflicts that exist,
Come to an end...
For all affected by these wars that bring disturbances,
Like the one you've experienced.

And forgive.
Because we must!
We must demand to have a future...
Stripped of hatred!
Racist debates.
To realize humanity given to us ALL,
Is God's gift!
To uplift.
And not abandon!

In Dedication:
To those who serve at Food Hood, Texas.
In and/or out of uniform.
But united in sorrows felt!
May God bless you.
Healing your pain to relieve you soon,
from grief.

Half Mass

american soldiers were slaughtered
on a military base today.
by an arab american officer
who held everyone at bay.

and for these departed soldiers
all of america will pray.
but a question was put to me
and i was'nt sure just what to say.

if they are flying the american flag
at half mass for those who died today
what about the ones who've given their lives
to protect the american way?

why should we fly the flag at half mass
just for those who died at FORT HOOD.
it should be for all soldiers
and they would argue if they could.

keep our flags at half mass for all
that put their lives at stake.
there will be many more that we will honor
and their families at their wakes.

we should also put a yellow ribbon
on our red, white, and blue
until our soldiers come home
and this fighting is finally through.

Many Years Have Now Passed

I was a young patriotic Black man back then.
Wanting to protect 'my' country.
My neighbors.
My family and friends.
When I enlisted into the military!

And when I was 'released'...
Wishing to return to those,
I helped 'free' from the enemies.
I was treated like dirt!
As I observed a clarity of selfishness and greed.
With the same intent that still continues.
As if my efforts...
Even to me made less sense!

And I try not to stay embittered.
Since many years have now passed.
As have many of those comrades I knew...
With remnants lying and now perhaps rotted,
Under manicured grass.

Uniforms

(3/9/12)

So many uniforms worn in this life, and inside them
You'll find your loved ones -your soul mate
Son, daughter, husband, or wife.

Firemen, policemen, nurses, and military too
They all have a job to do.
And as you look at them with pride
You thank god they're by your side.

The uniform does not make the person
But the person makes the uniform.
Because in it they pour the heart and soul
And it's there where they belong.

The firemen and women who run into a burning house
The cop who goes into the line of fire
The nurse who held their hand on you to stop the bleeding
And of course the military soldier
Who protects our country day and night
And will give up their lives in a fight.

Yet we do not stop and say:
"Thank you for all that you do
I am very proud to know you."
Their uniforms are just their shells
And at times they go thru hell.

But there is a person who never wore a uniform
But created all of them who wear it.
He is all these people rolled into one
He is "GODS SON".

He made these uniforms so that we can see their worth
And it was given to them from their birth.
So many uniforms to show what we do
But it doesn't show the inner you.
This uniform is seen only by god
It is called the human heart.
This uniform can not be replaced
by anything on this earth
For it was given by god at our birth.

We can be as beautiful or as vicious
As any animal on this earth, or as
Soft and sensitive as the most delicate flower
This is given to us from the lords powers.

Let us rejoice in what he has given
And make this life " worth living".

A Better Future

Please dont tear this world asunder
Please take back
This fear were under
I demand a better future
Or I might just stop wanting you
I might just stop wanting you
Please make sure we get tomorrow
All this pain and all the sorrow
I demand a better future
Or I might just stop needing you
I might just stop needing you
Give my children sunny smile
Give them moon and cloudless sky
I demand a better future
Or I might just stop loving you,
Loving you, loving you
When we talk, we talk to you
When we walk, we walk to you
From factory to field
How many tears must fall
Down there below
Nothing is moving
Oo-o
I might just stop wanting you
I might just stop needing you
I might just stop loving you
I demand a better future
I demand a better future
I demand a better future
For I might just stop loving you,
Loving you, loving you
I demand a better future
I demand a better future
I demand a better future
For I might just stop loving you, loving you, loving you
I demand a better future

It's a day for thanks

WELL HERE WE ARE
THANKSGIVING DAY
I THANK MY HEAVEN
FOR EACH AND EVERY WAY
IT’S A DAY FOR THANKS
A DAY TO SHARE
WITH FRIENDS SO CLOSE
WHEN FAMILY IS NOT SO NEAR
I THANK MY CHILDREN
FOR THE LOVE THEY GIVE
MY FRIENDS FOR SUPPORT
WHEN FAMILY IS MISSED
IT’S A DAY TO THANK
OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
TO SHARE THIS MEAL
AND DESSERT TO FOLLOW
WE ASK THAT THE FOOD
WE ARE ABOUT TO EAT
BE BLESSED UPON
AS WE ALL TAKE OUR SEAT
IT’S A DAY FOR THANKS
FOR ALL WE HAVE
IT MAY NOT BE MUCH
BUT THAT’S ALL THAT’S SAID

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

A Soldiers Family

Today we lost another soldier, I do not know
His/her name.
Today we lost a soldier, I don’t know
From whence he/she came.

This was a soldier fighting in a war
As so many other soldiers had done this before.
It matters not what country the soldier is from.
For they no longer fight for country, but for each other.
All beliefs, religions, and honors are blown in the wind.
For war is not a joy, it is but a sin.

Once the soldier is gone, the family must live to carry on.
Wondering if it’s all been in vain
And if there was anything to gain.
The pains and the memories the families must bear
And with each other these they share.

A smile, a joke, a laughter, or two
These were the things they shared with you.
A love story or a relationship gone bad
These were the things that made them happy or sad.

A mother who inwardly cries
For it is so hard to say good-bye.
Nine months in her stomach, then tending
And caring for them and watching the child grow
This is what every mother knows.

A soldiers life is lost, but it’s not just any soldier you see
For this is the one that came from the father and me.
Yes! My child was a soldier and on the battle front they died
Trying to protect the freedom for you and I.

But let us mourn for all soldiers, for they are comrades
Who fought side by side, until the moment that they died.
It matters not if they are classified as the enemy
Death on all sides, there are so many.
They cry for their children, the same as we
And their hearts they do bleed.

If we as parents and family would be united as one
We would have these governments” under our gun”.
Until that day- we will always be “ a soldiers family”.

Goddess of Pain

Oh Goddess
Of Pain
What will I do
Without you
Everyday
You bless me
With the feeling of pain
You make me hurt
Every single day
Do you like to
Hurt me so much
With all the pain
You give me
You tear my heart
Apart so much
I cant stand it
I try to stitch it
Back together
But you dont want
That to happen
So you just tear open
My new heart
Sometimes I wonder
If what you give me
Is not a gift
I wonder
If it is
A curse
That you pledge on me
I dont know
What I shall do
With you watching me
Every single day
Making my life
Miserable then ever
Some pain is good
But I have one little question
Just for you
Will you please
Let up a little bit
From all the pain you give me
I cant take it
Anymore
So please
Just think about it
And hopefully
Youll understand
I am just human
That is not the strongest
In the world
So like I said
Please
Just think about it
I know I will
Be thinking about it
Hoping that you understand
Because it hurts so much
I cry myself
To sleep every night
Wanting the pain to go away
I feel very tired
Right now
So I am going to go
And cry myself to sleep
Wanting you
The Goddess of Pain
To take away
All the pain
You have given me
From day after day

Female Soldiers

they are soldiers fighting a war
across the ocean,
but their hearts are at home
seeking love and devotion.
love from our country,
devotion from their family.
that is all that they need.

they joined the military to
fight for what they believe
to defend from foes, seen and unseen
in their hearts we are the greatest nation
from the farmlands to the greatest plantations.

it does not matter if they're black or white
they will never give up freedoms fight.
we have people here from every nation
fighting for americas salvation

women have been the backbone in every war
death they've seen by the score.
the plains indian women who fought
alongside their men
it became a common trend.

joan of arc- who lifted the seige
in only nine days
the greatest role a woman could portray.

the uniform does not necessarilly
make her a soldier, but her heart
and strength that make her bolder.
bold enough to cover your back
and pick up all the slack

she will always be there in command
and pick up the rifle from the sand
she will do whatever she must
for in her you put your trust.

she is the female soldier, she stood her ground
of that we should all be proud.

give credit where credit is due
this is what i say to you.

Wanting To Be Near You

Wanting to be near you.
Wanting to be near you,
Once again.
Baby.
And wanting you to know,
I am your friend...
Until the end.

Somedays I feel defeat.
And this shows.
Somedays I'm not as strong...
Or comfortable.

I can be weak in mind.
And from time to time...
I am needing more from you!

You're deep within my heart.
This you should know.
Right from the very start,
We were one.

And if I've said or done,
Something you can't forgive.
Please tell me then and there!
Make me be aware,
Instantly!
Baby.
I'm wanting to be near you!
Wanting to be near you,
Once again.
'Til the end.

And wanting you to know,
I am your friend...
With no one and nothing,
In between!

Wanting to be near you.
Wanting to be near you,
Once again.
Baby.
And wanting you to know,
I am your friend...
Until the end,
Of time!

I am wanting to be near you.
Come what may.
Everyday...
We live.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson

Ingerid Sletten

Ingerid Sletten of Sillejord
Neither gold nor silver did own,
But a little hood of gay wool alone,
Her mother had given of yore.

A little hood of gay wool alone,
With no braid nor lining, was here;
But parent love made it ever dear,
And brighter than gold it shone.

She kept the hood twenty years just so:
"Be it spotless," softly she cried,
"Until I shall wear it once as bride,
When I to the altar go."

She kept the hood thirty years just so:
"Be it spotless," softly she cried,
"Then wear it I will, a gladsome bride,
When it to our Lord I show."

She kept the hood forty years just so,
With her mother ever in mind.
"Little hood, be with me to this resigned,
That ne'er to the altar we'll go."

She steps to the chest where the hood has lain,
And seeks it with swelling heart;
She guides her hand to its place apart,--
But never a thread did remain.

In Celebration Of A Holiday

Yes I am a veteran,
Of a life given that is well experienced.
And on Memorial Day,
I think of my parents, grandparents...
And lives of my ancestors also veterans,
Of living lives in the doing for others.

My mind on this day,
Is not only on those who sacrificed their lives...
Wearing a uniform to serve time in the military.
I think of those who have sacrificed their lives,
For beliefs kept many today take for granted...
Just to eat and drink in celebration of a holiday.
Only to be glad to spend time away,
From a regular routine.

Yes I am a veteran,
Of a life given that is well experienced.
And on Memorial Day,
I think of my parents, grandparents...
And lives of my ancestors also veterans,
Of living lives in the doing for others.
And the doing for others many who have passed on,
And done...
Should on this day be always remembered.

And as far as wars, destruction and the loss of life goes?
There is nothing about the act of it that is worthy of celebration.
However...
The showing of an appreciation is a more honorable expression,
Than the rushing to feed one's greed as a priority...
To prove a loyalty in the doing of it!

At The Hands Of Time

Why don't we pray
for better days
when conscious can
convince us to stay
Love comes once
in a lifetime
Why take it away
at a dropp of a dime
Lets drink wine
for loving times
We break up
to make up
to know were
we stand and stay
it be our
finest time
to talk out
our differences
that is in dismay
we most sacrifice
to build a better future
in ones shoo-ray
for better days ahead
Why not have counsel
to keep our hearts, love
and family near
its know need
to live in fear
my love is here
to cheer
we need to bring
us all together
convince our family
we are the ones
not the other
for each other
for years to come
We can make it
if we try
don't give up
no lie
this the year
of The Messiah
to uplift our lives
we must strive
to have a better life
as a family
as a whole
don't let it
to continue to boil
no more
or it sure will
hurt and be sore
and out the door
I want and need
you for everything and more
as a wife, friend and family
for all, the rest of our lives
no trouble, no pain, no shame
love, happiness, glory
to claim
lets bring change
At The Hands Of Time
Sure enough
we were right
for life
my wife

A Patriot

I do not wear a uniform
Nor a helmet on my head
I never carry a weapon
Or have seen my brothers bled.
I never stand at attention
Nor have I marched in line
I never fought for freedom
As what I own is already mine.
I do not salute any man
I humble down only to GOD
So I walk my own separate path
Whether at home or even abroad.
I wear no stripes upon my arms
There are no medals upon my chest
As I am just a civilian
Nothing more, and nothing less.
I know my national anthem
Whenever it is spoken or even sung
And tears still come unto my eyes
As proudly my head is hung.
Inside my soul their is a torch
I will be a patriot until the day I die
And I too will walk those proud lines
While still with pride for my flag I will cry.
I have never fought in a war
But I have passed our soldiers graves
I give thanks to the country that I live in
And to those soldiers, I give my praise.

I Choose To Heal

I've decided not to be reminded of my griefs.
I've learned that carrying a baggage of sorrows,
Only weighs on my back...
Unhappiness to be left to be repeatedly monitored.

Tears cried as others measured my pain,
On a scale from one to ten...
Are days I've chosen not to live.
Again!
And again.
AND...again without end.

Why should I celebrate my agony,
On a regular basis?
What does doing this for me achieve?
A hatred and bitterness I pray from me will leave?
Or a constant search to seek validation,
How miserable my life lived can be?

NO!
For others that may be so,
To acknowledge without a letting go.
But for me...
My happiness comes with the knowing,
I can forgive.
Not forgot!
My mind wont let me do it.
But make attempts to forgive I can do.

I've decided not to be reminded of my griefs.
I've learned that carrying a baggage of sorrows,
Only weighs on my back...
Unhappiness to be left to be repeatedly monitored.
I choose not to keep my healing wounds,
Left to pick to bleed repeatedly in anger.

I choose with faith,
That God will handle my business.
I choose with faith,
God has my back.
And will correct all that has gone wrong,
To make right for my life.

I choose with faith,
That God will handle my business.
I choose to heal,
Not to relive moments of my agonies.
I already know what it takes to moan.
I already know that process.
I've renewed my commitment to living.
And give my deepest respect,
To those who had experienced...
Untimely deaths.

I choose to heal.
Not to be left,
For the rest of my life dropping tears wept.
To spend in the process of mourning.
Riding high on the shoulders of grief.

Good in my hood:

Thanks to the haters
I am no stranger
In my hood,
Thanks to the Haitians
Those who are Sicilians
But I am not a villain
Tanks to those with no credit
But I am not a bandit
My record is clean
Their lives are unclear
Are they human, or else …
Thanks to the reneiggers
But I am still very well
Living in this kind of hell
The block knows me
I don't mind, I have short mind
I can read their mind, and…
I am good in my hood.

S'akpase!
I am a prince
From Port-au-Prince
I have the best family
I have the worst enemy
From my country
Still I am good in my hood.

I have a Spanish super
Always ask me
Como esta el piso
Que necesitas?
Por favor no músicas!
I said: Nosotros somos la mezcla!
Papi! Papi! Tranquillo!
All day and every day,
Good in my hood.

I have what we call family
Kind of what we call family
I have what we call enemies
Kind of what we call enemies
Explain it, not so easy
I manage to stay good in my hood.

Under pressure I stay cool
Under hating, watching
I find deep love for stupid
With my eviction notice
I dress up and went to court
Over enemy I have victory
Under financial distress
I chillax, no stress, no distress
By the way, it is the new normal
I wanted to let them know
I am good in my hood.

Wanting Out

I turned around
and there you were
standing in front of me
i can't ignore
the fact that you were back for more
It's kind of funny when you think about it
It's kind of hard to agree to disagree
now we're back to the start
no buts, no buts
but you want me back
so take me away
'cause I don't wanna be found
I should learn to speak up
When enough is enough
and I'm wanting out
and I'm wanting out
I saw you smiling in that photograph
and I remember how we used to laugh
but that was then
forgive and forget
that was easiest
so take me away
'cause I don't wanna be found
I should learn to speak up
When enough is enough
and I'm wanting out
and I'm wanting out------
ohhh
dadadadada dadada ohhh
And I don't know if I can get through this
and I never knew that before
you make up your mind
and suddenly find you're wanting more
so take me away
'cause I don't wanna be found
I should learn to speak up
When enough is enough
ohh
and I'm wanting out
and I'm wanting out
so take me away
'cause I don't wanna be found
I should learn to speak up
When enough is enough
ohh
and I'm wanting out
ohh
and I'm wanting out

Memories (Emirates Airlines)

Today I woke up and jumped out of bed

Looked for my uniform and hat instead

Hoping to be on a flight once again

What was I thinking…it's hard to comprehend?

For a minute, I stood still and looked at the room

Nothing looked familiar…as I had presumed

Then I felt a tear rolling down my cheek

What has life done to make me this weak?

Why did time fly with a blink of an eye?

Memories remain and just goodbyes…

I wish I could travel back in time

When my youth was all at its prime

Friends and family who loved me so dear

Now I'm scared and full of fear

Of what life will bring…its hard to tell

Who to trust …I cant foretell.

We Are Converging

Wanting to be heard.
Wanting to be valued.
Wanting to be acknowledged.
Wanting to sustain a way of life...
Fading.
To emerge once again and surge.
Wanting to be admired.
Wanting most to be thought as best!
Wanting to imprint an impression...
That conflicts and unrest,
Did not from them initiate...
The perpetuating of protests.
Nor did the rise of destruction, fear and insecurities...
Leave this world in a chaotic mess.

We are converging!
And peace...
Will be the final test.
Many want.
Many wish.
Many hope to fill all hearts with love.
Instead of a digressive emptiness.

Almighty Miracle
Save me from obstacle,
All from the Devil,
All from the Evil.

And let me become careful,
Before being tearful,
Let me do what is good
Save me from harmful hood.

Empower me to serve You
To serve Your creation
With love, common hood
Downtrodden discrimination.

Save one – the misguided
Save one – the orthodox
Save us all from the
Cut-throat, cunning fox.
