Afterschool Games

Have my childish naughty deeds,
Left me to be considered foolish...
And elementary.
By a desire to feel accountable.
I feel mature but not prudish.
Or priggish to excess.
Nor can I be innocently tested.

But my eyes though bright,
I do admit have aged.
And...
Overnight have grown wise.
With a need now I have,
To master my responsibilities.
What on Earth has happened to me?

I would guess that's what this discovery is,
A maturity.
By another description depicted perhaps?
Okay.
Seasoned with the passing of many moons.
Since the 'kids' I once knew as I grew unassuming,
Seem still to be wanting to play...
The same afterschool games.

With an Aged, Wise Mind

I too had been confined...
In a youthful body,
With an aged, wise mind.

It seemed as if I was older than most.
Sure,
I played games with my peers then.
Though bored to tears...
Doing things kids did.

I grew to feel unusual.
Like an 'ET' from out of space.
Whenever the opportunity came to play hide and seek...
I went to a neighborhood variety store,
To speak to the owner...
About 'stuff' that was out of other children's reach.
And when I was done,
The 'kids' would ask me where I hid!
I laughed and told them anything.
Just to watch their faces...
That were so inquisitive.

I understand that mind one has...
Growing and trapped behind eyes so young.
And I have no advice to share for someone like that.
Since I'm sure they will not be ignored.

Dedicated to:
Risha Ahmed

'Risha...
Keep your patience.
You are blessed with a gift of expression.
AND, at age 'eleven'? ...you have nothing but more
of your 'brilliance' to share.'

Becoming More Difficult To Achieve

When an immature mentality,
Becomes an accepted part of one's personality...
It stunts a growth process,
Observed in an environment...
Fed on the advantages of being irresponsible.
Where childish attitudes are fed and meant,
To circumvent adult behavior.

A behavior once accepted to respect,
But...
Becoming more difficult to achieve,
With not too many today willing to experience...
The affects of expressing a maturity,
From that point of view!
And 'who' but a few today...
Would admit to being 'that' accountable for their actions.

There is a difference in the doing of things,
Interpreted by others to be foolish.
And to know what is done.
Than to do childish things...
And have few notice,
That the age of the 'childish' doer...
Has no comprehension to mention.

And the fault is found to lay on the back,
Of one who 'portrays' to be a fool...
To fit into such a dysfunctional environment.
To be laughed at but has achieved...
Peace of mind others can't seem to find as accessible.

Visuals Betray

Sometimes it becomes a task...
To determine and separate those,
Who are innocently ignorant...
From those who are professional.
This is almost as difficult,
As determining one's maturity...
Based upon age and presence.
Today...
Visuals betray.
If one's intelligence is in question.

There are more children in grown up skins,
Then at any other time.
Even those one would think to ne mature,
Disappoints with a childish reaction.
And some of the most profound comments...
Can be heard coming out of the mouths,
Of pre-school children.
With a matter-of-factness AND eye contact.
Something adults either lost through the process...
Or thought it useless to develop.

When A Maturity Much Needed Is Sought And Begins

All foolishness started between us will end,
When a maturity much needed is sought and begins.

Those games chosen to play,
To protect insecurities...
Needing to be chased away,
Are nothing more than childish pranks.
Overdue for a ridding...
Instead of pursuing them to please,
A mental dysfunction to outdo and out rank.

I've lost all attraction to play games like that.

I will return your calls.
But a tolerance of a nonsense initiated,
I no longer accept at all.
What point is made,
By a charading done to masquerade?
And in these days we live call for a seriousness.
With my desire to continue on like this...
Leaving you behind with the times I will not miss.

All foolishness started between us will end,
When a maturity much needed is sought and begins.

In The World Of Adulthood

Those remaining,
In the playing of their silly games...
In a sustained immaturity,
Find themselves wishing to undo...
What it is they have done they do,
Once to them it has been acknowledged...
Those remaining,
In the playing of their silly games...
In a sustained immaturity,
Have lost all credibility...
In the world of adulthood,
Where children dressed 'as' adults...
Are not allowed to impress,
With a childish foolishness to be accepted.

'Comeon!
You can't take a joke? '

~I use to accept fools with a suffering done...
Of their antics too.
At one time.
But a seriousness of my life,
And in my mind...
Seemed to have overnight,
Risen to the top of my priority list.
And adults who are mature,
Are the only folks I wish to deal with.
And they today appear difficult to find.
Call it...
A plateau of maturity reached.~

Could It Be You (Fortyleg Bite)

COULD IT BE YOU FEATURING KY-MANI MARLEY
for such a long time there was nobody
i had only myself to please
i never needed anyone at all
then you came - it felt like a breeze
a breeze of sunshine and a breath of light
suddenly i knew i was wrong
my heart beats faster, what a nice surprise
i'll be holdin' on ...
... feels like i knew you before
feels like there's a treat in store
it happened just overnight
i cannot wait anymore
it feels so naturally right
CHORUS
could it be you, baby, that i was searchin' for
could it be you, baby, who makes me search no more
could it be you, baby, that i was lookin' for
could it be you, could it be true, could it be you
could this be love now, between you and me
do i care? i do possibly
and all that matters is you bein' there for me
feed my dream of eternity
i wanna know you like i know myself
make me feel like nobody else
you give me freedom, make me act so strong
i'll be holdin' on ...
... feels like i knew you before
feels like there's a treat in store
it happened just overnight
i cannot wait anymore
it feels so naturally right
CHORUS
am i dreamin or is this reality
havin you right next to me
what is the meaning of this feel i feel
could it mean that this love is real
i was lost on a lonely road
prayin for some peace, for some guide
youre like an angel on a ray of light
there you were in front of my eyes
... feels like i knew you before
feels like there's a treat in store
it happened just overnight
i cannot wait anymore
it feels so naturally right
CHORUS

Squeaky Clean and/or Bleeped

Why do folks play childish games to pest?
Those older ones play them,
And should give them a rest.
You would think by the time some one is 55,
They are more interested in being 'real',
Than handing out a bunch of old tired 'jive'.
No wonder the kids have lost all respect.
There are adults who still think,
'They' are the ones breasting feeding home in nests!
There are more mature children than there are grown 'peeps,
These days.
And maybe that's why those accused of being molesters,
Aren't!
When the 'children' are the ones stalking older folks...
And they are the ones who should be charged,
For being the sleazy, sneaking creeps!
The 'real' old people are home alone and jealous...
Seeking ways to get reality,
Squeaky clean and/or bleeped!

Evil Woman

I've seen a look of evil in your eyes
You've been filling me all full of lies
Sorrow will not change your shameful deeds
Do well best, someone else has better seen
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Now I know just what you're looking for
You want me to claim that child you bore
Well you know that it must he not be
And you know the way it got to be
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Evil woman, don't you play your games with
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Wickedness lies in your moisten lips
Your body moves just like the crack of a whip
Blackness sleeps on top of your stray bed
Do you whish that you could see me dead
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me
Evil woman, don't you play your games with me

Last Fall

As I leave the demons behind me
I find myself within your eyes
I didnt seem to know what I was missing
Just seemed so out of my eyesight
But now I feel like I could fly feel like I could rise up
There to where youre calling me
No more asking why no more foolish lies
Cause I have finished falling
As I fight the shadows that disguise me
Dyin for these hidden ways
All that seems so far is now behind me
And I can soar while my heart is left sinking
But now I feel like I could fly feel like I could rise up
There to where youre calling me
No more asking why no more foolish lies
Cause I have finished falling
And it's as if new old eyes have found me, cause things look different than before
I've never felt so light and so free and so willing to go on no matter what I come across
Cause I will not stop pushing til I have recovered what was lost
Feel like I could fly feel like I could rise up
There to where youre calling me
No more asking why no more foolish lies
Cause I have finished falling
Funny how the things you need will find you
The things you want will leave you wanting some more
Everything that comes along reminds you
You can either rise above or you can hit the floor
But now I feel like I could fly feel like I could rise up
There to where youre calling me
No more asking why no more foolish lies
Cause I have finished falling
No Im no Im no no...I

Oh Childhood, Where Art Thou?

Oh childhood, where art thou?
Oh please, oh please,
Can you return to me now?

I miss the innocence,
I miss the games;
Hell, I even miss the bullies
Calling everybody bad names.

I miss the times where you'd watch childish TV
And none of your friends found it an embarrassment.
Now, every time I'm caught watching young kids' channels,
I feel like I'm suffering constant harassment.

Where did the days go when my body
Was as small and fit as a fiddle?
Those who grow and choose to be mature
To me shall always be a riddle.

What happened to those chasing games I used to play?
Now I spend my decent mornings needing to shave.
I cannot comprehend why all people must grow old
And why they can't live in the world of fairy-tales told.

Where's my squeaky voice gone?
Why have my chubby cheeks disappeared?
My puberty and hormones have overtaken me
Precisely how I've always feared.

I must now work and slave
For very little wage
In contrast to the freedom and toys I had
From the moment I was released from my baby-cage.

Oh childhood, where art thou?
You should know how much I miss you so.
Sadly, there is no turning the clock back now
As I am forced to perform for the adult-life show.

To Agitate A Childish Game

Sometimes I am tempted,
To agitate a childish game...
That has been played.
Just to feel and see it done...
To throw it back in someone's face.

But games played like that,
Have long passed their attraction.
Although so many are caught up in them...
With an immaturity that seeks as shown,
An act played like that would offer a satisfaction.

Sometimes I am tempted,
To agitate a childish game...
That has been played.
Just to feel and see it done...
To throw it back in someone's face.

And everyday I witness,
Immature adults with childish minds.
Complaining to others about who they don't like.
With a waste of time whining,
Hoping to 'hook up' with a like mind.

Everyday I seem to witness,
More children who should be adults.
More who have not discovered responsibility.
Or an accountability that brings to them concrete results.

And everyday I witness,
Immature adults with childish minds.
Complaining to others about who they don't like.
With a waste of time whining,
Hoping to 'hook up' with a like mind.

And as I pass such activities,
I feel blessed to have aged gracefully.
Although I grit my teeth...
Wanting to find a reason and purpose,
To respond to an ignorance...
I do my best,
Not to acknowledge...
With a reaction given that would please.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...
Farther.
For the gritting of my teeth,
And the keeping of my peace!

Yesterme Yesteryou Yesterday

What happened to the world we knew
When we would dream and scheme
And while the time away
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
Where did it go that yester glow
When we could feel
The wheel of life turn our way
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
I had a dream so did you life
Was warm and love was true
Two kids who followed all the rules
Yester folls and now
Now it seems those yester dreams
Were just a cruel
And foolish game we used to play
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
When I recall what we had
I feel lost I feel sad with nothing but
The memory of yester love and now
Now it seems those yester dreams
Were just a cruel
And foolish game we had to play
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
Sing with me
Yesterme yesteryou yesterday
One more time.....

Overnight Observation

(j. farrar/t. snow)
Looks like Im the only one here
Even the nurse is gone
But I guess I should wait cause when she left, she said
The doctor wont be long
So make yourself at home
His office is down the hall
Why do I feel uneasy?
I know he must be good
Got credentials all over the wall
I hear a voice behind me say
What seems to be the trouble, my dear?
Wont you be kind enough to step over here
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
Please dont think me ungrateful
But holding me overnight
Seems a little extreme
Do you always serve martinis
And turn the lights down low
Doctor, do your colleagues know?
Although you say its good for me
I really dont feel like dancing now
Somebodys waiting
And Im double-parked anyhow
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
Now, I may look stupid
But Ill tell you what, Ive been around a long time
And I thought I had heard everything
I tell you, they keep coming up with them
I just couldnt believe my ears when he said:
Kick off your shoes, relax my dear
Slip into something comfortable
Two seconds flat, Im out the door and down the hall
It might be fever
It might be flu
To isolate it, Ill have to hold you
Overnight (observation)
Overnight (observation)
In my opinion
All we can do to isolate it
Ill hold you overnight (observation)

The Dream

His fastball is fading, his sinker is gone,
They sent him doun to the minors cause he wore out his arm,
But his eyes shine brighter than the young kids it seems
So he keeps on playing, holding on to the dream.
Lord knows that it aint for the money
Cause hes broke almost every day,
And it aint for the fame or the glory
Guess hell do it cause he still loves to play
Guess hell do it cause he still loves to play.
Hes been in the saddle since he was a kid
The rodeo came but he keeps it well hid
And someday hell have to set his pony free
But til he does hell be riding the dream.
Lord knows that it aint for the money,
cause hes broke almost every day,
And it aint for the fame or the glory
Guess hell do it cause he still loves to play;
Guess hell do it, cause he still loves to play.
We aint getting no younger and that is the truth
But these games we keep playin, theyre our fountain of youth.
From boston to boulder and down to orleans
From highlights to lowlife and everything in between
Well I guess we could grow up and quit wearing our jeans
But we still feel like playing and living the dream.
Lord knows that it aint for the money,
cause hes broke almost every day,
And it aint for the fame or the glory
Guess hell do it cause he still loves to play;
Guess hell do it, cause he still loves to play.

Something happened
I just don't understand
Something happened
It's making me feel mad
Something happened, you don't hear about
Oh, please that never did before
Something happened
I just don't understand
Something happened
I just don't understand
Something happened
It's making me feel mad, oh
I never saw this on TV
I never read it in no book
ahh
Something happened
I just don't understand
hey, baby, something happened
I just don't understand
something happened
I just don't understand
something happened
I just don't understand
something happened
I just don't understand
something happened
Something happened
I just don't understand
Something happened
It's making me feel mad
I thought I knew a lot of things
but I don't know a thing, oh, oh, oh
Something happened
I just don't understand
The things I hear and see
don't seem the same
The things I touch and feel
are forever changed
I've never felt this way before
and I hope I never do again
Something happened
I don't know why or when
oh, something happened
I just don't understand
something happened
I just don't understand
Doo, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo

To Get What It Was to Do Done

It has been a long time since I had been a child.
Such a long time,
Those actions I did then...
Were tolerated and condoned by someone else,
Who I respected as an adult and it reflected.
Whether or not I accepted.

And from those who taught me,
The difference as I grew.
I knew when I matured...
So few did that too.

And while they now make excuses,
For everything that they do...
Or not.
Expecting to be dismissed...
Like children throwing tantrums,
And spoiled fits.
Upon others they drop.
To do flip flops...
With something childish,
They can not stop!
I wont put up with it!
No matter how 'old'...
These ageless 'kids' may get!

I'm not going to put up with none of that one bit.
I have learned to be accountable.
And responsibility for my actions...
I take.
I have learned to embrace,
Take hold and move on!
No matter who around me,
May hide or deny...
Any action I may make.
With a mind that is awake.
I might undo it.

But...
Whatever that decision is,
It is done by me to say...
'Something'
I had to do to get what it was to do done!
Whether those of childish minds are left stunned.
To get from point A to B does not require a Phd!
Or a pail and shovel to collect sand.
I have been taught not to be afraid to take a stand!
And...
Get it over to get over it!

The Games You Play

I'll let you play your games
Yes your games that show your lack of shame
You, who so many try to tame,
You are your very own claim to fame
I guess you will never change, always the same

She called your bluff
So you got revenge, a little bit rough
I'll let you play until I've had enough
You know you'll never end up in cuffs
Because I am there to clean up your ruined stuff

You're a dangerous dark horse
Never been one to show pity or remorse
So much pain to which you are its source
You take what you want, maybe resort to force
And you win every time, not one fail of course

But at the end of your day
When all the poisons have been put away
I am the only on which will ever make you say
How you feel and can make you feel that way
I am the only one with whom you don't play

Us Oldies

It is that time of the year,
when my birthday is looming in the air
and I begin to feel quite ancient.
I felt old when my children
presented me with their children
and made me a grandparent,
but when their children
started having children of their own
and stuck a great in front of grandparent
you really begin to feel ancient,
especially when you haven’t retired yet.
When we were young,
oh, those lovely blessed days
when the summers seem to last forever
and the sun always shone.
Life was much more laid back then.
Oh where have they all gone?
Then came the teenage years
opening up all our dreams
of being some kind of superstar.
Yes, I remember them so well,
the music and the romance in the air.
Sometimes I hark back
to those days way back then.

Next, you are an adult
with responsibilities and children of your own.
From there you are on a downward slope
at least that is what some people say.
Well, don’t you believe it;
you’re always as young as you feel.
You can still go out and play
those young kids games.
Personally, I never grew up,
as my friends will testify.
I still have my Peter Pan persona,
Hip Hip Hooray.
I may not drink,
but I can act as crazy as if I do
and that makes life much more fun
being like me a kind old fool.
Kid think they are the only ones
who can have fun,
don’t you believe it,
us oldies can have fun too.

Old And Young

LONG ago, on a bright spring day,
I passed a little child at play;
And as I passed, in childish glee
She called to me, “Come and play with me!”

But my eyes were fixed on a far-off height
I was fain to climb before the night;
So, half-impatient, I answered, “Nay!
I am too old, too old to play.”

Long, long after, in Autumn time—
My limbs were grown too old to climb—
I passed a child on a pleasant lea,
And I called to her, “Come and play with me!”

But her eyes were fixed on a fairy-book;
And scarce she lifted a wondering look,
As with childish scorn she answered, “Nay!
I am too old, too old to play!”

A Wisdom Patiently Achieved

Looking at them,
Anyone would perceive them to be...
Adults.
But listening to their conversations...
And hearing from them speak,
An overwhelming immaturity...
Immediately those mature,
Would detect a childishness limiting...
Their ability to be accountable.
Or any seriousness taken of responsibilities.

And flaunt they do,
Their children conceived.
With few of them understanding their parental deeds.
Leaving themselves and their communities,
Lacking in comprehension...
Of a discipline and what it takes,
To succeed.
With an applying of experience,
And a combination of mistakes made...
That requires a wisdom patiently achieved.
