Ordinary

I could make a list, it'd take all day,
To tell you what we're not. We aren't,
And won't be, millionaires, or movie
Stars, or landed gentry, lolling with
Our dogs and horses on our hundred-
Acre lawns. We won't be lords of
Commerce holding court in boardrooms
In the sky. We will not win the public's
Eyes with words or pictures, nor will we,
It seems, obtain the critics' praise, and
We won't build the perfect geegaw,
Torture nature into telling secrets
She had held before, or rule a nation,
Ruthlessly or otherwise, or otherwise
Obtain the slightest status or renown.
In other words, we won't prevail,
As we may once have hoped we would.
At best, we will persist. Is that
Enough?

Pictures Of You

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you that I almost believe that they are real
I have been living so long with my pictures of you that I almost believe that the pictures are all I can feel
Remembering you standing quiet in the rain as I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell and holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering you were the song through the night
You were bigger and brighter and whiter than snow
Screaming at the make believe, screaming at the sky and you finally found all your courage to let it all go
Remembering you falling into my arms, crying for the death of your heart
It was stone white, so delicate, lost in the cold, you were always so lost in the dark
Remembering you, how you used to be, so proud you were angels, so much more than everything
Hope for the last time, it'd slip away quietly
open my eyes but I never see anything.
If I'd only I thought of the right words, I could have held on to your heart
If I'd only I thought of the right words, I wouldnt be breaking apart...
All my pictures of you
Looking so long at these pictures of you, I'd never hold onto your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true, but always just breaking apart.
My pictures of you
There is nothing in the world that I ever wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world that I ever wanted more than to never feel breaking apart
All my pictures of you

The Jumping Horses Of The Carnival

Do you still remember
the jumping horses of the carnival
when we were yet small?

Do you remember sometime
in July of 1968?
The horses are made of tin
in different colors,

practically all other colors
which are impossible for real horses

Those horses did not jump on their own
You bet
and when you guess wins, you get
either a plastic glass or
a cheap teddy bear

Those horses move with the music
of the record player
and there was a Big Man
holding the microphone

Dictating who shall move next
till your number wins

That is the beginning of my criticism.
Now, i am going back there to obtain more data
Perhaps, i shall then be
Enlightened.

THE JUMPING HORSES OF THE CARNIVAL (edited, my eyes are failing me)

Do you still remember
the jumping horses of the carnival
when we were yet small?

Do you remember sometime
in July of 1968?

The horses were made of tin
in different colors,

practically all other colors
which were impossible for real horses
that we knew of
black, gray, white, brown, spotted

there were pink, yellow green
and rainbow horses

(i hope you remember
that you preferred the black ones)

Those horses did not jump on their own
You bet

A hand held their feet

and when your guess won,
you got
a cheap teddy bear

Those horses move with the music
of the old record player
with a harsh and confused voice
like a desert storm

and there was a Big Man
holding the microphone

Dictating who shall move next
till your number won the prize
of your persistence

i called you stupid &

That was the beginning of my criticism
Turned treatise of Reason

Now, i am going back there to obtain more data
Perhaps, i shall then be
Enlightened in black and white, perhaps,
i am not sure anymore

One Hundred Punks

They customised their gear and synchronised
(They)flame out in the streets with flame in their eyes
Guerilla operator ain't heard of cool
Check out any wall - one hundred punks rule
One hundred punks rule
A hundred punks run with London town
Down Wardour Street to the Soho Sound
Don't sleep all week only when they fall down
A hundred Rumble boys and Tumble girls
Protected by steel in a private world
Tomorrow's famous faces advertise today
And the studs on their back say
One hundred punks rule
A hundred punks run the loaded gun
They look so sharp they look like one
If you ain't got the look you'll never be one
A hundred punks run with total suss
A hundred good mates you know you can trust
There's never no bother and there's no fuss
Check out any wall - one hundred punks rule
One hundred punks rule
And Jimmy's no.101 knows one day he'll be One
Watch him - watch him Go!
A hundred punks run the leather army
I know whose by my side not at home with TV
Even when I'm down I hear them sing for me
Check out any wall - One hundred punks rule
One hundred punks rule
Check out any wall - One hundred punks rule
One hundred punks rule
Check out - One hundred punks rule O.K.

Empty Now

you are telling me that what i did was so hurting
it was you who was bombarding me with a hundred words
per minute
as i was
sitting on the rocking chair facing the sea where this time the wind keeps on
rushing
on my
face
i assure you i was listening to every word you are saying because i have told you once and i am telling you again and again i love you and i will always love you till
the end
of time
and you still keep bombarding me with all those words that you were hurt by my telling you i love you i love you i love you yet there is something untrue
you did
not kiss
me yes
you for
got the
kiss
the real reason why you said i love you is because i asked you to tell me and to repeat the words that i missed hearing after ten years of this marriage
you are
cruel
in the
silence
in between
the words
demanded.

it is the emptiness of your words that is killing me it is this emptiness that
is telling the truth this emptiness between us so huge so wide i cannot
anymore
reach you
you have
shut me
out from
your full
ness from
your wall
words.

Do it your way for Stephen Stirk

Sometimes the words that writers use
have different meanings and values.
For words don’t always mean the same
and common words don’t play the game.

Some words can mean their opposite
A writer must be explicit
selecting words in such a way.
Their meaning is as clear as day.

Avoiding in particular
the words that seem familiar
That sound the same when they are not.
Meanings can differ quite a lot

Like seams and seems or there and their.
A writer has to be aware
Simplicity is his finest tool
and that his readers as a rule

Are not concerned with the syntax
Your words should help them to relax
If they do not then you will fail
your efforts all to no avail.

Although your words are scholarly
perfectly composed grammatically.
Successful writers in the main
make sure they write to entertain.

They cater to the public taste
they haven’t got the time to waste
Writing works which won’t be read
That will not earn their daily bread.

Those who write professionally
research their market thoroughly.
The must be certain it will sell
and some of them do very well.

Amateurs, who post on the net
are not constrained they can forget
The publishers and critics views
and simply write the way they choose.

Though they won’t earn a single cent
it doesn’t matter, They’re content
with comments that their readers make.
They love to write for its own sake.

10 Offences

Dear _ _ _ _ _

The way you have been acting lately
Has been despicable
Your actions have upset me dearly.
Due to these behaviors
A list has been made
Of all your prior offenses

1. You never try to contact me first
2. You Lie
3. You make feel like a stand in
4. You're emotionally abusive
5. You've hit me
6. You criticized me in public
7. You never disclosed your relationship status
8. You make unreasonable demands
9. You test me all the time
10. You cheated to cause jealousy

Despite everything I'm still standing
So in a way I am thankful for your ways
The torture from you has set me free
To be who I want to be

If I didn't have
Any respect for you
I would write
Your name
Right here

The critic

The status of critics has changed,

The most important critics were those who stood on street

corners

Full of gossip and finger wagging

Or the busty burly matrons whispering over washing lines

These critics were the slanderers

The little vipers who hung by the school gate

Some still do,

This time they sink a pint or two,

In the pub with a couple of pug nose friends

But there is a class of critics

That whitewash your pale white words

Austere and aloof from the proof,

Scrubbed clean and mean,

They murder sentiment

Mock fools without 'a scene'

Redefining the 'new' 'illiterattii, ' who never went to school'

These critics wear brogues.....? ?

Am I being cruel? [or just ironic? ]

The men drink whisky

The women a gin/ vodka and tonic!

Fifty years ago they would 'parade'

In a uniforn of tweed and plaid

Post public school

But some critics just thumbnail through

Half asleep over scripts they render dead/ unread

'They are not amused'

So don't lose any sleep

They have no time you

Seeking To Uncover Hidden Meanings

If more people read words actually written,
Less time would be spent by them...
Seeking to uncover hidden meanings,
Or trying to find a way to define the mind...
Of the writer.

Or...
Make attempts to read between the lines,
When there is a lack of comprehension...
Of the lines already there that appear.

But like most folks,
Who obtain their knowledge from gossip...
A title to them given speaks,
More than their reading of words.

No Swimming Pool Or Tennis Court

A swimming pool and tennis court
for music, lyrics, Copeland thought
chez Brothers Gershwin, has to be
the way to go. I get no fee
for poetry, and have no mansion.
My home has much room for expansion,
and telling me my verse is gorgeous
won’t make my house as great as George’s.
In woods of Beverly this Gershon
is not like Hilly Gershwins’ version;
it’s far closer to a shul,
though I would not decline a pool
and tennis court in summertime,
when people think of Ira’s rhyme.

When Aaron Copeland visited the Gershwins in Beverly Hills, he was impressed by their tennis court and swimming pool, saying that he did not know that one could obtain either by writing music and lyrics.

Ch 06 On Weakness And Old Age Story 01

I was holding a disputation with a company of learned men in the cathedral mosque of Damascus when a youth stepped among us, asking whether anyone knew Persian, whereon most of them pointed to me. I asked him what the matter was and he said that an old man, aged one hundred and fifty years, was in the agony of death but saying something in Persian which nobody could understand and that if I were kindly to go and see him I might obtain the information whether he was perhaps desirous of making his last will. When I approached his pillow, he said:

‘A while ago I said I shall take some rest
But alas, the way of my breath is choked.
Alas, that from the variegated banquet of life
We were eating a while and told it is enough.’

I interpreted these words in the Arabic language to the Damascenes and they were astonished that despite of his long life he regretted the termination of it so much. I asked him how he felt and he replied: ‘What shall I say?’

Hast thou not seen what misery he feels,
The teeth of whose mouth are being extracted?
Consider what his state will be at the hour
When life, so precious to him, abandons his body.

I told him not to worry his imagination with the idea of death and not to allow a hallucination to obtain dominion over his nature because Ionian philosophers have said that although the constitution may be good no reliance is to be placed on its permanence and although a malady may be perilous it does not imply a full indication of death. I asked: ‘If thou art willing, I shall call a physician to treat thee?’ He lifted his eyes and said, smiling:

‘The skilled doctor strikes his hands together
On beholding a rival prostrate like a potsherd.
A gentleman is engaged in adorning his hall with paintings
Whilst the very foundation of the house is ruined.
An aged man was lamenting in his last agony
Whilst his old spouse was rubbing him with sandal.
When the equilibrium of the constitution is destroyed
Neither incantations nor medicines are of any avail.’

A poet everywhere

A poet everywhere and around
In nature, on mountain and in sound
Conveying the melody in beautiful words
As if spoken from mouth of lords

What if one gets no name
It is praiseworthy and no shame
Not all can be judged by the crowd
Still one feels internally very proud

It is divine pulse that is beating
All expectations and inspirations meeting
A peace with affection when openly meeting
A status he has quite naturally befitting

There is reward from almighty
No one must lament or feel pity
There is blessing for holding sanctity
This is what required as fine quality

Oh, My Dear Life! (Old Familiar Feelings)

OH Life! , tell me what to obtain:
Is there bliss in material?
Or joy in worldly attachment?
Where to begin my search, OH Life!

Is there dormant peace detachment?
OH! Life, tell me what to obtain?
What wisdom in silence of mouth?
What profound silence passed through time?

Tell me lust or love? flesh or seed?
Power, prowess, mansion and cars?
OH! Life, tell me how to obtain
eternal pure heart and peace of mind

Can one grasp the totality?
Can it all be had in one grab?
or is just you, oh my dear LIFE!
Oh! dear Life, YOU ARE ALL I ask.

Words of liberation for my nation

Chains of slavery are still over my people.
Notorious minds still over power innocent minds.
What can free the black child, what can free my nation?
I ask in pain and suffering in the dark jail cells,
What can free me from mental slavery?
How to know right from wrong?
How to think free and build a free society?
The solution is in the words of liberation, the words of wisdom.

I write and recite a revolution, my revolution my poetry.
I do n’t need praises or worship but only recognition and understanding of the people to words of liberation, understanding of poetry.
I stand before you to present poetry,
I stand before you to present the words of liberation to my nation.

Poetry that builds, poetry that destroys.
Poetry that destroyed the impious minds of colonists in Rhodesia.
I speak of poetry that built freedom in South Africa.
When I speak of poetry I mean the true meaning of words.
Words of wisdom,
Words of freedom,
Words of liberation,
Words to free my nation.

The words of liberation to my nation
Words of liberation to free my generation

Blessed Cats and Dogs

Cats and dogs, aren’t they blessed?
Causing the country to insist
What the blows are to the chest.

Why do little angels work so caressed?
Making the country to assist
Cats and dogs, aren’t they blessed?

My soldiers in the army are with a blood test,
Keeping lines and dictation as a checklist,
What the blows are to the chest.

Amazed by the brilliance of those in the contest,
Canine help became something to co-exist,
Cats and dogs, aren’t they blessed?

May service feed the animals of conquest,
Domestic keepers will arrive at their crest,
What the blows are to the chest.

We see, we know the animals are depressed,
May loving people take a goodness as a list,
What the blows are to the chest,
Cats and dogs, aren’t they blessed?
