Awakened From A Dream
We have stumbled a while, five long years,
Tripped up by large and small defeats.
You lost your job, and I lost mine.
Our new ones pay us less, but everything,
And everyone, we owe is getting more.
The math is bad. We're living now from
Hand to mouth. Those sunny visions
We once had, of idle final years among
The mountains, and of trips abroad,
Have clouded. With our savings gone,
The years ahead won't be so idle. We'll
Be tethered to this home, which crumbles,
Ceiling pieces falling to the floor for us
To stumble on.

The Name
THY name was once the magic spell, by which my thoughts were bound,
And burning dreams of light and love were wakened by that sound;
My heart beat quick when stranger tongues, with idle praise or blame,
Awoke its deepest thrill of life, to tremble at that name.
Long years--long years have passed away, and altered is thy brow;
And we who met so gladly once, must meet as strangers now:
The friends of yore come round me still, but talk no more of thee;
'Tis idle ev'n to wish it now--for what art thou to me?
Yet still thy name, thy blessed name, my lonely bosom fills,
Like an echo that hath lost itself among the distant hills,
Which still, with melancholy note, keeps faintly lingering on,
When the jocund sound that woke it first is gone--for ever gone.

Into The Dark
There were stairs they were steep
I was falling falling deep
You were there you were small
There was screaming down the hall
I've been here sleeping all these years
There comes a time we all know
There's a place that we must go
Into the soul into the heart
Into the dark
There was fire there was death
There was lying on your breath
I turned away I would pretend
But the burning never ends
I've been here sleeping all these years
There was a wave over the house
There was fear choked in my mouth
You were there you left your mark
As I stumbled in the dark

Caught Between Two Guys
Tell me tell me tell me,
Tell me what to do.
Cause I’m lost I’m lost I’m lost,
And don’t know what to do.
Two great guys, one great girl,
And they ask me to choose.
One’s left for the army two years ago,
He’s coming home and wants to have another go.
I’m lost I'm lost I'm lost,
And don’t know what to do.
The other’s been a great friend.
He’s always been there,
And promised to be until the end.
Tell me tell me tell me,
Tell me what to do.
Cause I’m lost I’m lost I’m lost,
And don’t know what to do.
Two great guys, one great girl,
And they ask me to choose.
I’ve loved one for years,
And years still to come.
While the other it’s been two year,
And yes, I guess I’ve missed him some.
Do I turn left?
Do I turn right?
Or do I go strain on my own?
Do I take the hand of the army brave?
Or the one whose road is already paved?
Tell me tell me tell me,
Tell me what to do.
Cause I’m lost I’m lost I’m lost,
And don’t know what to do.
Two great guys, one great girl,
And they ask me to choose.

This Years Girl
See her picture in a thousand places
cause shes this years girl.
You think you all own little pieces
Of this years girl.
Forget your fancy manners,
Forget your english grammar,
cause you dont really give a damn
About this years girl.
Still youre hoping that shes well spoken
cause shes this years girl.
You want her broken with her mouth wide open
cause shes this years girl.
Never knowing its a real attraction,
All these promises of satisfaction,
While shes being bored to distraction
Being this years girl.
Times running out. shes not happy with the cost.
Thered be no doubt, only shes forgotten
Much more than shes lost.
A bright spark might corner the market
In this years girl.
You see yourself rolling on the carpet
With this years girl.
Those disco synthesizers,
Those daily tranquilizers,
Those body building prizes,
Those bedroom alibis,
All this, but no surprises for this years girl.
All this, but no surprises for this years girl.
All this, but no surprises for this years girl.

After 4 Years?
After 4 years of fighting
I'm lost?
After all dedication for you
I'm lost?
Am I lost in this fight?
It seems likely and true.
After 4 years of loving
I'm lost?
After all of our conversation
I'm lost?
Am I got the lost love?
It seems likely and true.
After these 4 years
What is going to be?
Whether I'm lost or not
It seems likely and true
Your call.

Early Works - Epitaph For A Friend
Gathering of blackness
cower the lost to the final reunion.
The gates enfold of sadness
for a lost friend.
Hear the mighty trumpets blow
its last cord of silence
before the clouded darkness
surround the black.
Through the years that were short
compared with the final infinity
there were joys
beyond the reaches known
and sadness to whom know have gone.
Home was just a bed
where freedom died,
though our course wasn’t straight,
neither was it crooked,
but friends we stayed
through thick and thin.
Now before another sunrise
another soul wings its way high
to the paradise of heaven
where tranquillity rules all
and memories are lost.
People though just mortal
cry for the departed,
but do the departed want us to cry.
Boundaries are crossed without a tear everyday
so why not in our hour of grief.
So into the final road you’ve entered,
into the most final thing
and here to you
an epitaph to a friend.
Date unknown.

As Years Go By
Tell me how the years go by
Its been a long long time
Tell me how your plans fell through
And how you changed your mind
Tell me bout the hearts you broke
How many have you known
Tell me how the years went by
And left you all alone
Tell me dear
I want to hear
bout the lost and wasted years
Tell me when now tell me why
Tell me how the years go by
Tell me how the years go by
Like borrowed dancing shoes
That gather dust beneath your ned
Mislaid and seldom used
Like a heart that haunts a phone booth
On a corner far from home
Tell me how the years went by and left you
All alone
Close your eyes
Tell me what do you see
Its an imperfect world
Still we dream perfect dreams
Its no big surprise when were down on our knees
Truth isnt always what we will believe.
Tell me how the years go by
In seasons at your door
And how the things you left me for
Dont matter anymore
Tell me how the more we learn
The more we leave unknown
Tell me how the years went by and left you
All alone
Alone
Close your eyes (x3)

Best Years Of Out Lives
Where were going
Heaven knows
{were} lost and falling
And it shows
And I know you wont believe me
And I know it wont seem right
And I beg you just to leave me
When wed argue and wed fight
But even as we stumble
Through the darkness and the light
You know these were
The best years of our lives
Sent to hurt me
And you will
Tear the seasons
From the hill
And I know you wont believe me
And I know it wont seem right
And I beg you just to leave me
When wed argue and wed fight
But even as we stumble
Through the darkness and the light
You know these were
The best years of our lives
And I know you wont believe me
And I know it wont seem right
And I beg you just to leave me
When wed argue and wed fight
But even as we stumble
Through the darkness and the light
You know these were
The best years of our lives
And I know you wont believe me
And I know it wont seem right
And I beg you just to leave me
When wed argue and wed fight
But even as we stumble
Through the darkness and the light
You know these were
The best years of our lives

I Was Born When Cameras Were A Luxury
i was born when cameras were a luxury
far removed from the middle-class homes-
no faded and moth-eaten photographs
to spring memories of my lost childhood
from those frozen frames-
what were my thoughts and fancies then?
memories are blind and dumb
till i was six years old-
none cared too to remember my acts
to retell when i yearned to learn about my baby life-
really sad that i am unaware of those casual days
when life was given no special importance,
soaking in flashes of lights-
who knows what i prattled
and how i spent my idle hours in play-
o how many years of autobiography
have i lost in dim darkness?
must be the same for every guy of my age-
o time, walk back in slow steps into my toddler's days;
reveal me the imprints of my kid steps on your sands-
as i ripen in age, the hunger grows more for my baby years!

Fall To Pieces
It's been a long year
Since you've been gone
I've been alone here
I've grown old
I fall to pieces, I'm falling
Fell to pieces and I'm still falling
Every time I'm falling down
All alone I fall to pieces
I keep a journal of memories
I'm feeling lonely, I can't breathe
I fall to pieces, I'm falling
Fell to pieces and I'm still falling
All the years I've tried
With more to go
Will the memories die
I'm waiting
Will I find you
Can I find you
We're falling down
I'm falling

The Man Who Sold The World (live, 1979-12-15: Saturday Night Live)
We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With The Man Who Sold The World
I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare at all the millions here
We must have died along, a long long time ago
Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man who Sold the World
Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man who Sold the World

~Lost~
lost why must i be
lost in this wicked world i see
lost in this society, why me
blinded by the evil visions i see
lost in the dark of the devil
if there were i would be lost on the highest level
why must i be lost in the dreams of mine
but its all real now that i realized
lost lost lost
thats the definition of mine.

Through The Years
Through the years, there will be laughter and smiles
Pain and sorrow too
But i will be going through it with you
Through the years, there will be road trips and vacations
Excitement and adventure
But the only thing making them enjoyable is because i'll be with you
Through the years there will be love and romance
Dinners and movies
But the only thing keeping the flame lit is our undying passion
Through the years there will be weddings and receptions
Futures and joyous memories too
But I won't forget the time when we said 'I DO'
Through the years there will be new life and happiness
Late nights and early mornings
But as long as we're by each others side, we'll be fine
Through the years there will be scraps and bruises
Band-aids and kisses
But we'll be there to help them up when they fall
Through the years there will be teenage rebellion and loud music
Fights and rough nights
But we said that no matter what happens we'll never leave each other
Through the years there will be sickness and disease
Doctors and medication
But we'll make it
Through the years there will be heartache and tears
Death and grievances
But I will hold your hand and help you through all of lifes fears
Through the years we'll grow gray and old
Our children will have children of their own
But know this, beyond the grave I will always love you

That Old Man....
that old man who lives down the street,
who just shared a can of Alpo with his blind dog.
who owned the corner grocery when i was a kid,
who helped me out when i was short.
whose father passed it down to him,
whose son was killed in a car wreck.
whose daughter lives somewhere in California,
whose wife died ten years ago.
who was a deacon in the church for years,
who quit going when his wife died.
who put his life savings with 'trusted investors',
who lost it all when everything fell.
who the county's hounding for back taxes,
whose porch is falling down.
who prays that if there is a god...
he'll die and take the dog with him!

Since I Lost You
It seems in a moment, your whole world can shatter
Like morning dreams they just disappear
Like dust in your hand falling to the floor
How can life ever be the same
Cos my heart is broken in pieces
Yes my heart is broken in pieces
Since youve been gone
Its all too easy to take so much for granted
Oh but its so hard to find the words to say
Like a castle in the sand the water takes away
But how can life ever be the same
Cos my heart is broken in pieces
Yes my heart is broken in pieces
Since Ive lost you
Oh now youll never see
Oh youll never know
All the things I planned for you
Things for you and me
Held your hand so tightly
That I couldnt let it go
Now how can life ever be the same
Cos my heart is broken in pieces
Yes my heart is broken in pieces
Since youve been gone
Cos my heart is broken in pieces
Yes my heart is broken in pieces
Since Ive lost you
Cos my heart is broken in pieces
Yes my heart is broken in pieces
Since youve been gone

Recompense: (For Lord Kilhacken)
That which I saved I lost
And that I lost I found,
And you are mine, oh tender little ghost,
Whose grave is holy ground.
That which I kept is flown,
So fast the children grow,
The only child I keep to be my own
I lost long years ago.
The little ones that stayed
Slip from me while I cry:
Oh, not so fast, so fast, you golden-head.
Swift as the wind they fly.
Not two days are the same.
To-morrow will not see
To-day's young children, crested like a flame,
Gathered about my knee.
One day a day will dawn
Will see me dispossessed --
An empty nest whence singing-birds have flown.
Who shall refill the nest?
The years run out like sand
To strip me of my pride;
Then in my hand will steal a clinging hand.
I keep the child who died.
God gives and does not lend
This one lamb of the fold;
And he will need his mother to the end
And never will grow old.

Please Come Home
It must have been about a 100 years
At least a hundred years
I wish you would just come back
Just come back home
The day we met feels like 100 years ago
And Im still waiting with my hand right by the telephone
Yeah maybe where you are you cannot make that call
Or you cant find the pen I know its not your fault
CHORUS
My friends think Im insane
Cause I've turned old and gray
And Im still waiting and I cannot be alone
Please come home (please come home)
I watch the clock hands tick my hours turn to days
And I cant fall asleep cause I don't want to miss that ring
I know that this year your car will park outside
But I can't put my arms around the girl who took my life
REPEAT CHORUS
Its been so long
Its been about 100 years
And a million dreams since the last time
Ive seen your pretty face I would do whatever it takes
I would wait another 100 years
And if that didnt work
Maybe Ill try and see what forever feels like
But until then and I know you hear me
And whatever your doing wherever you are please come home
That day we met feels like 100 years ago
And Im still waiting for you
Baby baby wont you please come home
Please come home
Wont you please come home
Please come home
Wont you please come home (Please come home)

Oh, How The Years Go By
In our times of trouble
We only had ourselves
Nobody else
No one there to save us
We had to save ourselves
And when the storms came through
They found me and you
Back to back together
And when the sun would shine
It was yours and mine
Yours and mine forever
Chorus:
And oh how the years go by
And oh how the love brings tears to my eyes
All through the changes the soul never dies
We fight, we laugh, we cry
As the years go by
There were times we stumbled
They thought they had us down
But we came around
How we rolled and rambled
We got lost and we got found
Now were back on solid ground
We took everything
All our times would bring
In this world of dangers
cause when your heart is strong
You know youre not alone
In this world of strangers
(repeat chorus)
And if we lose our way
Any night or day
Well well always be
Where we should be
Im there for you
And I know youre there for me
(repeat chorus twice)
As the years go by
