Soul
Liberates in fragile dreams and thoughts…
Rows in seas, fearless
Dances with light that into new days breaks
It rests on the age that is yet to come
It is the music that life makes
It hails from the enchanted forests of immortality
Rises like smoke; careless and free,
far away..
It breaks and recreates
It rebels and rouse
It is beautiful and boundless
It can't be contained
It can't die away
It is the ceaseless joy of childhood that roams bare foot on roof tops,
Basks under the sun
It is the kite that soars to infinite spaces
It is the creativity of life,
Perfect symmetry of divine mystery
It is the artistic passion
It is the breath of undying beauty
It is the mystic shadow of dusky day
It is Master's reflection,
It is calm as the sea
It is not a captive of your body
Nor a prisoner of your narrow thoughts
It can't be contained
It can't die away…

Thoughts of Rain
Thoughts of rain
And kings of old
Queens all gone
They fade away
Like shooting stars
And others calling ‘Don’t jump! ’
But I did
I’ll take the free fall
I’m taking the chance that no one will be there to catch me
And while I fall I think
Beautiful, wonderful thoughts of rain
And pretty things
The ones that weren’t smashed in the fight
The things that fell and didn’t jump
But I did
Free falling
A long way down
What happened to the zebra?
Stripes all faded off
What happened to the giraffe?
Spots all jumped away
Like me
Thinking thoughts of rain while falling
And sweet mangoes
And rye
Thoughts of forests
Willow forests
Rain forests
Oceans of knowledge
Of which each of us has but a teaspoon of
Seas of thought
Rivers of philosophy
Thoughts of rain
Rain pattering down
Smelling sweet
Life so perfect
So wonderful
Like rain
Dark stormy days filled with lightning
Sunny days filled with rainbows
Thoughts of rain
Spiral bound
And falling down
And thick soft wool to cushion the blow
Thinking thoughts of rain.

Prayer For Healing
I am a Divine Act of Creation
Here, now, and forever
I am self-contained and complete
I take in the “Breath of Life”
Breath that fills my being with light
Indeed…
Light containing the voice of Creator
Light that fills every part of my body
Light that soothes my troubled mind
Light that heals all physical disease
Yes!
Beautiful Light…
That someday carries me home

Morning thoughts
Morning thoughts
~
A sun rises over roof tops
Greeting the cold morning air
A wind blows heavy, swaying trees
The branches stripped bare by winter
The world is slowly waking
And the picture beyond my window
Emerges to life once more
I lay motionless in silence
Nursing warm coffee in my hands
Early thoughts begin to stir
My pen yet to be put to paper
I think back to dreams
The night passed what they brought
I think to the day ahead
What will it bring
Thoughts of love and romance
What could I write of them
I watch a world waking
A sun rising over rooftops
And I listen to my thoughts

One and Only One!
I am in peace
At perfect peace with God;
O what a God and peace are!
A narrow dark tunnel I crossed;
To see that vast ocean ahead,
No shores not even
any bright shine,
shineth the self seamless
and endless,
Except the galaxies shine like light worms
This, this indeed is peace.
Is it, peace bestowed on me,
Or by my own effort I attained the peace?
By nature and by practice, peace was too far,
How very far I was from God;
Yet now by grace brought right to Him,
Through faith and mediation.
So beautiful, so very beautiful is God,
I was never nearer be;
For in the person of my own,
He was always with me,
I ran away from him,
Yet, he was with me like my shadow,
May be I ran and ran like shadow of my own,
I am as near as He.
He is as near as me,
So dear, so very dear to God I and all,
More dear I cannot be as you too are dear to him;
The love wherewith His love
now reflects in me and you too,
Such is His love to me and you,
just a touch made me melt and one with vacuum,
Flow into your heart as love divine,
And one with that bright light, all worlds are one,
Why should I ever anxious be,
Why should I be more a being,
Why should I be narrow and small,
When infinite was only one and vanished I in Him,
Since such a God is mine,
O is it true, is he mine or I am his?
I am his is more true
than he is mine,
who has to judge when we are one,
He watches me night and day,
Warns and guards
here and there and Everywhere,
Now I knew about this, he is always there,
And the fool and foolish,
I was never there
As this body and mind sent on a mission impossible,
Only his grace makes,
Even every thing possible,
You are the one my God,
You are the one before infinite zeros
Completing that look infinite,
yet when zero adds to one,
The one remains one and only Lord!
And tells me
'Mine is thine, Thine is mine.
And all that thou possess is mine and
Look you too were not only mine,
But also all are mine,
Pious and sinner alike,
Happy and pain alike,
Beauty and ugly all alike,
Drunken or mad lover all are mine!
You are my own shadow and shadow alone,
Shadow of puppet with I play on,
My own light plays the shadow,
The shadow of puppet on the screen
of my own mind!
Such is my God, only one always one,
One and only one!

After our Likeness.
Before me now a little picture lies—
A little shadow of a childish face,
Childishly sweet, yet with the dawning grace
Of thought and wisdom on her lips and eyes.
Fair, oval, broad-brow'd face—small, delicate head—
Transparent skin, with blue veins shining through—
All the soft outlines, beautiful and true,
Bring me the echo of the words “God said.”
Made “in our image”—sure 'tis that we see,
God's likeness, in the fair face of a child,
By the world's sin and passion undefiled—
Ay, as I look, it seems quite plain to me.
The light wherein the little features shine,
Strange, mystic light, so undefined and faint,
So far too pure for any words to paint—
'Tis a reflection of the Face divine.
Some day the earthly shadows will be cast
Across that sunshine—it may be to dim
A while the visible countenance of Him;
But 'twill be there—the likeness—to the last.
Some day the lucid waters, in which lie
Pictured those glorious lineaments, will be
Stirred up and troubled like a stormy sea;—
But they will yet re-settle—by-and-by.
They will re-settle when the soul is still'd,
Its passions, its wild longings, and its pain;
The pure reflection will shine out again
When earth's hopes are relinquish'd, unfulfill'd.
They will re-settle in those after-years
When life's hard lessons have been conned and learn'd;
Then this child's beauty will have all return'd,
More lovely for the trouble and the tears.
They will re-settle in the calm of death,
When the sweet eyes are laid asleep, and when
The heart is hush'd. Truly God's likeness then—
The mirror clear, unsullied by a breath.
Ah! while I look, and trace each tender line,
I think most of the day when I shall see
The dear face in that perfect purity,
Its mortal features clothed with the divine.
This self-same face, but with the image bright,
Nevermore undefined, and faint, and dim;
This self-same face, yet like the face of Him,
In glory and in beauty infinite.

Breathe In…breathe Out
God Breathes Life in…
You know this from first spanking
Involuntary breathing;
Regulated by a knowing body
Disrupted by emotions
Halted by trauma
Stopped by death
“Breath contains Light”
Learn to be a conscious breather;
Take in breath with awareness
Take in positive ions contained in Wind
Breathe out negative thoughts
Breathe out negative feelings
Breathe in
Breathe out
Let breath carry your prayers
Let breath voice thanksgiving
Let each breath praise God…

sometimes he rides his thoughts like bicycles
sometimes thoughts like the allure of a whisper
sometimes thoughts like the scent of a candle
sometimes thoughts like the purr of a motorcycle
sometimes thoughts like screaming engine race
sometimes thoughts like thunder lightning flashes
sometimes flash fire thoughts comets igniting the sky
sometimes riding morning breaks punctuates paradise
sometimes morning breaks spread encircle entire earth

Love
I have lived, lived enough to know...
Seen and heard love...
With waving trees that I trespass
In music that touches heart...
In its full glory I have seen it in youth’s prime...
Its tenderness seen I in mother's eyes
In its tranquil and peace
In woodlands afar...
Seen it in its bloom every spring...
And its gloom hidden in winter's cloak...
I have seen love and felt its charm...
In hues of dreams velvet and gray...
In the silence after music dies, and live ever after in calm thought...
Love's divine...
Call never let go waste...
It's life of the soul...
Beauty's grace...
Master’s reflection...
You have known the infinite...
Gathered it in a belief…

Depression Hurts
Depression hurts when you grow old
And life has passed you by
No more dreams to think about
Or even wishes to come true
You lose a friend and then another and
There's no past to talk about
No laughter, only tears to shed
That others cannot see
Depression hurts no matter what you try
It breaks you down till nothing matters
Life doesn't matter either
You come or go, who cares
No one that really cares too much
No friend thats left to tell your troubles to
No love that puts its arms around you
And holds you close.
Why stay and sit in this old chair
With nothing to do day after day
Smoke cigarettes, why not
Its too late now to care
Goodbye to this life I would gladly say
Why God won't take me now
I do not know because he knows I want to go
Home with others that I love
There's more up there than down here
More love from friends in heaven
No friends do I count down here
Depression hurts, it hurts down deep inside
It breaks your heart and destroys your mind
Your thoughts are eratic and blown
Until the thoughts that used to come
Are gone forever, depression hurts
Summer's Form
Summer has been suspended this year;
nature has acceded
because all of summer's light and it's flowerings
are contained in you
coming into your majority.
Flowers bloom in those eyes
especially the blues and greens;
beauty caresses your body
alighting across those rose bud breasts
animal flora and mineral all align;
your hands
carry fire-flies
providing light for lovers in the gloaming night
lovers
who swim in their own perfumed senses;
beauty true is intoxicating.
Summer heat
rises here
I have tasted it
in your single kiss.
All can see why
Summer therefore concedes
this year
there is no need
for her arrivals
because Summer's delights
have all been contained
in the form of you
in this Night Garden
of our delights.

God Himself Cries
Joseph Manduke Poems
Poetry and thoughts written after 1956

God himself Cries
When love is true and lost the universe itself weeps
God himself cries when love is lost
Love is not contained
Galaxies weep when true love is lost
Nay, clusters of galaxies stop turning in infinity when love dies
God cries
The creator's heart itself, the infinite word
the power of creation that is love, waits
Takes pause in the tear
takes a moment from the foundation itself of all life and all hope
God sheds a tear
Such breaks the heart of the creator
When love is not preserved
Creation itself blinks out of reality,
And a moment is lost as God weeps for the loss of Love so precious
God himself cries
When Love is lost
Love is the creative force itself.
All is about love
God cries when love is unpure.
Creation stops and waits and takes a moment to mourn the lost lovers dream.
Preserve your Love.
Save the tears of God.
Sing a praise to having known true Love.
In the act of will that breaks a heart.
God cries.
Eternity wains under the creator's sadness
And we lose touch of precious binds to creation itself.
We lose our life and our fragile hold on humanity.
When love is lost,
Hope is lost,
Peace is lost,
And God cries

The coffin, set up as coffins always are, near the grave, contained the father. The sentence, set up as sentences always are, on the page, contained the words. The meat package, set up as meat packages always are, with cellophane covering, contained the chops. The synagogue, set up as synagogues always are, for people, contained the rabbi. The classroom, set up as classrooms always are, for chairs, contained the professor. The coffin, set up as coffins always are, beside the grave, contained the mother. The word, set up as words always are, beyond hearing, contained the syllables. The prose, set up as prose always is, in census-rectangles, contained the phenomena. The nation, set up as nations always are, in questionnaire rooms, contained the sworn. The can, set up as cans always are, with ornate paper covers, contained the chicken o’noodle soup, with the circular noodles. Abacus, guitar, and quipu, set up as abacus, guitar and quipu always are, hieratically on notional strings, contained tobacco’s troubadours. The coffin, set up as coffins always are, next to the grave, contained the sister. The elegy, set up as elegies always are, dishonestly, contained the family. The steak, set up as steaks always are, artificially reddened, contained the fat. The Prisoner
I count the dismal time by months and years
Since last I felt the green sward under foot,
And the great breath of all things summer-
Met mine upon my lips. Now earth appears
As strange to me as dreams of distant spheres
Or thoughts of Heaven we weep at. Nature's lute
Sounds on, behind this door so closely shut,
A strange wild music to the prisoner's ears,
Dilated by the distance, till the brain
Grows dim with fancies which it feels too
While ever, with a visionary pain,
Past the precluded senses, sweep and Rhine
Streams, forests, glades, and many a golden train
Of sunlit hills transfigured to Divine.

Ten Spheres
Ten spheres turn shimmering with a light contained,
The colour of the sphere is but a reflection upon the light,
The true light, boundless, beatific and eternal is forever one the same.
Twenty two pathways are their for us to walk upon,
Journeying well and safe with perfect trust and love
As our guiding lights for our passion and our intuition.
We may breathe life anew within our meditation upon some higher plain.
Seek the wisdom to open your heart the universe whole,
Know your place within the turmoil of infinity and know your soul.
Flow between the channels towards the horizon of eternity
And know that through the process of the moulting cage
We may subdue the rage of the beast within and we may
Shed our skins as we grow vibrant feathers anew.
Through a thousand shades of azure blue we may stride.
The tree of life thrusts its grandeur towards the sky,
And we must pursue our aspirations towards the light sublime.
Divinity incarnate you may see in the eyes of the one you love
But the light above loves you beyond the boundaries of limitation,
For you are as one with the ocean as you are with the fire
And through the fluidity of our breathe from the earth we may retire,
Yet always to return as from above to below and to know our time is now.

Beautiful Passion
i watch beauty take a walk one morning
by the sea as she undresses herself and begins
to carry her body to the calm waters
where she plunges herself
and in a moment she rises combing
her wet hair with her soft fingers
as she closes her eyes and
raises her head to the glorious light of the sun
she gets out of the water her breasts
in slow motion protruding to the direction
of her firm nipples as drops of water drip
down her tall and white body of
this woman who says she loves me too.
i am awed and speechless and i thank God
for this beautiful passion
his greatest creation that now i can touch and feel
and live with for all the days of my life.

No Reason For Your Dreams
There's no need to find a reason for your dreams
for there is always more to dreaming than there seems to be.
And I'll be thankful if through out my life you dream of me.
It's all that I could ask for while I live.
A dream is such a lovely gift to give.
Ah, da, da.
Your fragile beauty caught me in its web.
And I am held by every silver strand of love you spin.
Here in a swirl of sleeping circles all my dreams begin.
Dreams that somehow always end with you.
You're the one that makes my dreams come true.
Sleep is lovely when you sleep next to me.
And while you're dreaming let your thoughts all run free.
But if I could understand what makes you free,
then I would capture you and hold you for eternity.
But I'm afraid that would destroy the love you feel for me.
And loving you is how it has to be.
Reasons don't mean anything to me.
Loving you is how it has to be.
Reasons don't mean anything to me....

The Art of Beauty
If this beauty lasts I upstairs run,
For running away is from outside the heart,
And if this beautiful person is with strength,
Then almost all of life has begun
For me to subjugate and then celebrate
Like the prisoner of faces and fashion.
I do not understand whether I
Listen to music
Or see the artistic talent of an artist
Like a man obsessed with beauty and all it is strange.

My Question
I can see my reflection
In my bedroom mirror-
My pupils are spinning madly about -never abating-
In the dimness of the light I have always believed that
I am being persecuted-
Death fear plagues me everyday- dreams I had as a child,
Deadly as a snake
Constricting my wrist-
Life is such a mystery, and
Death is even more mysterious-
People following me close behind and
I am being watched-
Others have said it is my imagination-
Others blame it on the moon-
This morning I was running
Running from all that I fear-
Just ordinary people to others, while to me-
Menacing and threatening-
I just keep running until
I am home, the doors locked and chained and
I am alone at peace with
The voices speaking to me inside of my mind-and
I can see my reflection in my bedroom mirror-
My pupils spinning about-
Will my thoughts ever silence?
Life is a mystery to me and perhaps more to others-
Others who watch me- day in and day out-
I can still see my reflection wherever I go-
The light gets dimmer and I find myself in the midst of the darkness, although
In the confinement of my home- so I am now at peace-
Even in bleak darkness because I am alone-
Inside the world of my thoughts I am running-
Running away from my reflection until the day I die and
While death is a mystery, one never knows when it shall happen-
I continue my solitary walk towards home- and in utmost reality-
Nobody- really knows where their home truly resides-
At the same time I question where reality resides.

Who Created This Beautiful World?
Who created this beautiful world?
What a harmony and perfection!
Who thought this beauty, who brought it out?
Who is he that perfected it?
What matching patterns spawn the wonder?
What concinnous rhythms create this charm?
What is that grand invisible hand
That weaves this beauty with rhythms and patterns
That makes beauty, beauty; a divine music?
What a match of place, time and form
That makes this world a joyous feeling!
Beauty infuses life to the world,
Beauty makes the world to speak and sing,
To awaken soul to the creator’s skills
Who gave his rare gifts in abundance.
What brings those hues to youthful glows,
What brings those shapes to enchanting slopes,
What brings gentleness to graceful love,
What brings those grace to ripening age,
What brings brooding beauty to day-break’s freshness,
What brings that beauty to the width of the sky,
To the height of hills and depth of seas,
To the shapes of clouds, to the moods of men
In liquid ease and endless abundance
That no more the world is what it is made of,
But a celestial charm of unknown depth.
A subtle music in joyous rhythms,
A pregnant pattern in brilliant colours,
In human forms, in nature’s moods,
In fast changing life’s variegated hues,
In tides of sea, in tides of life,
Surface to those inner ears and eyes
That keep itself wide open always;
A living rhythm is at work in womb
In hide and seek of light and shadow,
In fall and rise of hills and vales,
In love and hate, in war and peace;
The twinkles of eyes, the gentle smiles,
The blue of the sky, the warm sunshine,
Each is a rich work of a master craftsman.
Day is beauty, night is beauty;
Youth is beauty, old age is beauty;
Desire is beauty, contentment, beauty;
Heart-break is beauty, fulfilment, beauty;
Perfection is beauty, ugliness, beauty;
All are beautiful deep ’neath bones
Like sunrise and sunset or sunshine or rain,
In the magical hands of the master craftsman.
Is this world his own image,
A reflection of his model perfection
Like the pleasures of pleasure and the pleasures of pain
Make the world a divine charm;
Work and leisure, pain and pleasure,
Penury and wealth, life and death
Hand in hand bring harmony to the world;
Mongoose kills snakes; snake, rats,
In living rhythms of life and death;
Beauty, the world breathes, is beyond cause,
Beyond source, beyond course,
That surfaces itself to the joy of all
On the will of the great divine artist.
A speck of dirt, dark spots on the moon
Have the same charm and perfect rhythms;
Tears of pain and tears of pleasure
Have the same simple grace hidden in them;
Like silk-worms that weave soft sheath around,
He builds the world with his own inner charm,
It be a mole or a mountain;
And this we have,
The wonderous world of perfect beauty;
Beauty within and beauty outside,
Beauty between and beauty a’where,
In gentle flesh and youthful forms,
In fall and rise, in rage and patience,
In nature’s arts and man’s crafts,
In old and new or foul garbage;
For, the creator sits in all of them
And builds a bridge to all hearts and souls.

My mind will prevail.....
These thoughts,
I keep fighting.....
as if it's not in my control.
What I realize now,
my life......
It's up to me.
This tired, chained up person.....
I was always free.
Locking away my inner beauty...
tiring down my beautiful soul....
I am worth it,
I do want more.....
one foot in front of the other,
my mind I control.
I'm filling my head with thoughts of love,
for me,
and my GOD above.
Dismiss me as weak,
your own life is what you need to seek.
For now...
I'm humble,
not weak.
My mind controls the life I seek! ! ! ! ! !
