My Friend Jane

My friend Jane had a lovely voice
and she also could write a tune
but I don't see her anymore
she went away far too soon.
I guess she's just a loner
who likes to move around
but I miss her songwriting
and the way she made a sound.
She went a bought a boat
it cost her a lot of money
now she's living on it
just her and her little dog Sunny.
I wished she'd stayed longer
but she needed to move on
one day she was here
the next she was up and gone.
But I'll never forget Jane
nor her little dog called Sunny
she was clever and creative
and at times very very funny!

Red Streak

It was a dry, sunny day in June.
that fact she would never forget.
It was the day she lost her partner
to a surfeit of regret.

She had taken their little daughter,
the product of donated sperm,
to the nearby Hillside Park
and picnic'd on the side of a berm.

Jane had declined to come with them.
Jane was in one of her 'moods'.
Perhaps she shouldn't have left her,
but she thought Jane just needed to brood.

Jane was her beautiful partner
erratic, mercurial, bright.
Jane, who could light up the heavens
like a bolt from the blue in the night.

They returned to a silent apartment.
It was the stuff of nightmares, not dreams.
A red streak of blood in the bathroom
Her little girl started to scream.

A kind neighbor cared for her daughter
as she spoke to police in a fog.
The M.E.'s van came for the body.
Seeing Jane lifeless was odd.

Tomorrow, she must make arrangements.
She needn't bear this all alone.
It was time that she spoke with Jane's parents.
Softly weeping, she picked up the phone.

For My Little Sister

My little sister
Janeth likes
To be with me,
And she smiled
For me each time
Admire her ten
Year old smile,
She said I'm special
And I think she
Is too.
But our fate is
Different so I left
Jane to search
For a better life.
Now I miss Jane so
Much after so many
Years abroad.
But I wish Jane dont,
Cry for me, cause i know
I don't deserve her tears
Some day I kno, very soon,
I will come home to Jane
And say to her:
Please my dear sister
Forgive me
For I know i shouldn't have
Left like that,
And now, I've realised
Money and wealth
Cannot compare to you

Mary Jane

Now when I go to work, I work all day,
Always turns out the same.
When I bring home my hard-earned pay
I spend my money all on mary jane.
Mary jane, mary jane, lord, my mary jane.
Oh if a man should look tame now, mean and mature,
They all turn out the same.
cause they cant do nothing to make a man feel good
Like my old mary jane.
Mary jane, mary jane, lord, my mary jane.
Now I walk in the street now lookin for a friend
One that can lend me some change.
And he never questions my reason why,
cause he too loves mary jane.
Mary jane, mary jane, lord, my mary jane.
Well, I have known women that wanted no man,
Some that wanted to stay.
But I never knew what happened in this world
Till I met up with mary jane,
Mary jane, mary jane, lord my mary jane.
Oh, when Im feelin lonesome and Im feelin blue,
Theres only one way to change.
Now I walk down the street now lookin for a man,
One that knows my mary jane,
Mary jane, mary jane, lord my mary jane.

Intro/sweet Jane

Standing on the corner
Suitcase in my hand
Jacks in his corset, jane is in her vest
Me, honey, Im in a rock n roll band
Ridin in a stutz bearcat, jim
Those were different times
They studied rules of verse
And those ladies they rolled their eyes
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Jack, he is a banker
Jane, she is a clerk
Both of them save their money
When they come home from work
Sittin by the fire
Radio does play, look classical music there, kids
The march of the wooden soldiers
You can hear jack say
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Some people like to go out dancing
And other people like us, we gotta work
And theres even some evil mothers
Theyll tell you that life is just made out of dirt
And women never really faint
All the villains always blink their eyes
That children are the only ones who blush
And life is just to die
Anyone who ever had a heart
And wouldnt turn around and break it
Anyone who ever played a part
And wouldnt turn around and hate it
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Sweet jane
Sweet jane, sweet jane
Sweet jane, oh honey, sweet jane

Discontent And Quarrelling

JANE.
Miss Lydia every day is drest
Better than I am in my best
White cambric-muslin frock.
I wish I had one made of clear
Worked lawn, or leno very dear.-
And then my heart is broke

Almost to think how cheap my doll
Was bought, when hers cost-yes, cost full
A pound, it did, my brother;
Nor has she had it weeks quite five,
Yet, 'tis as true as I'm alive,
She's soon to have another.

ROBERT.
O mother, hear my sister Jane,
How foolishly she does complain,
And tease herself for nought.
But 'tis the way of all her sex,
Thus foolishly themselves to vex.
Envy's a female fault.

JANE.
O brother Robert, say not so;
It is not very long ago,
Ah! brother, you've forgot,
When speaking of a boy you knew,
Remember how you said that you
Envied his happy lot.

ROBERT.
Let's see, what were the words I spoke?
Why, may be I was half in joke-
May be I just might say-
Besides that was not half so bad;
For, Jane, I only said he had
More time than I to play.

JANE.
O may be, may be, very well:
And may be, brother, I don't tell
Tales to mamma like you.

MOTHER.
O cease your wrangling, cease, my dears;
You would not wake a mother's fears
Thus, if you better knew.

Jane you say its all over for you and me girl
Theres a time for love and a time for letting it be baby
Jane youre playing a game called, called hard to get by its real name,
Making believe that you just dont feel the same. oh jane
Jane youre playing a game you never can win girl
Youre staying away so Ill ask you where you been baby
Like a cat and a mouse, (cat and a mouse) from door to door and house to house
Dont you pretend you dont know what Im talking about
Were all those nights we spent together, hey hey
Only because you didnt know better, I gotta know
Jane, youre playin a game, playin a game, playin a game

Ah jane youre playing a game of hide and go seek
Jane youre playing for fun but I play for keeps, yes I do

Standin' on the corner, suit case in my hand, Jack is in his coat, Jane is in her vest, and, me, I'm in a rock 'n' roll band. Riding in a Stutz-Bearcat, Jim. Ya know, those were different times. The poets, they studied rules of verse, and the ladies, they rolled their eyes.Sweet Jane! Sweet Jane! Sweet Jane!
Now, Jack, he is a banker, and Jane, she is a clerk. Both of them save their monies, when they come home from work. Sittin' down there by the fire, the radio does play. The classic music is, "The March of Wooden Soldiers", and you can heard Jack say, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane.
Some people like to go out dancin'. Now other people they go to work. Can't Go On

How can it be easy to forget you when I think about you all the time
I never know how I miss you when I never had you, well nevermind
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on
It'd be cool if we never met, if we never locked eyes
Then I'd feel so happy, not knowing you're so fine
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on
I get so nuts when I'm around you there's nothing I can say
I wish you'd get outta my head, I think about you every day
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on without...
ROCK!
I move on, but I can't go on without you
Said I try, don't know why, what to do without you
Can't move on, can't move on, can't move on, without... you

Situation

Blue I dress for every situation
Moving through the doorway of the nation
Pick me up and shake me down
Baby I can't do without
Move out
Don't mess around
Move out
You bring me down
Move out
Forget about don't make a sound
Just move out
I remember only for an hour
Moving right through me can you feel the power
I don't know what's going on
It's getting me but it won't be long
Move out
Don't mess around
Move out
You bring me down
Move out
Forget about don't make a sound
Just move out
Move out
Don't mess around
Move out
You bring me down
Move out
Forget about don't make a sound
Just move out
Move out
Don't mess around
Move out
You bring me down
Move out
Forget about don't make a sound
Just move out
Now he's in control he is your lover
Nation stands against him he's your brother
Been a long time, been a long time
Now I've got to give somehow
Move out
Don't mess around
Move out
You bring me down
Move out
Forget about don't make a sound
Just move out
Well Well Well

Well have a ball and that aint all

This time of evening my love comes down
Thats when Im missin your kind of kissin

I Wouldnt Change The Man He Is

(nickolas ashford/valerie simpson)
Ive got a funny kind of guy
Nobody knows him
Any better than i
Says without me
He can get along
But I know thats just a mans way
Of saying hes strong
But I wouldnt change him no
Oh I wouldnt change his funny ways
cause hes the cause of my sunny days
And though sometimes he brings me little tears
Still love the man he is
If I do something to please him
He never gives me credit
If I think hell bring me candy and roses
Huh, I might as well forget it
Hes the kind of a man
Who likes his privacy
And when a mood hits him
I know when to let him be
But I wouldnt change him no
I wouldnt change his funny, funny ways
cause hes the cause of my sunny days
And though sometimes he brings me little tears
Still love the man he is
Sometimes when he hurts me so bad
I think Ive got migraine in the head
All he has to do is touch me
Tears disappear
Ill forgive him in a minute
I have to pretend
There aint much I know
Hes the kind of a man
Who likes to run the show
But I wouldnt change him, no
I wouldnt change his funny ways
cause hes the cause of my sunny days
Though sometimes he brings me little tears
Still love the man he is
Oh I love that man
I wouldnt change his funny ways
And I wouldnt change the man he is..

Money, Money

I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay
Ain't it sad
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball...
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
A man like that is hard to find but I can't get him off my mind
Ain't it sad
And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldn't fancy me
That's too bad
So I must leave, I'll have to go
To Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same...
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money

My Blue Ocean

I once heard Captain Dan tell me a story
about this lovely girl who's name was Jane
She was vast and deep and filled with glory
Aaaahhhh
Bottom served as home for hull and anchor
She's always fit to quarrel with the wind
The great Titanic yes it's she that sank her
Aaaahhhh
Then she heard me
Say that oath that
made everything clear
I love you
My ocean blue
I like the way your sea sees me
My darling Jane
She speaks to me at times through falling rain
Now twas time to manifest her vigor
Was she fit to quarrel with the wind?
The air was strong but Jane she was much bigger
Aaaaahhhh
Then she heard me
say that oath that
made everything clear
I love you
My ocean blue
I like the way your sea sees me
My darling Jane
Oh me, my darling Jane
Oh me and my darling Jane
She speaks to me at times through falling rain
Speaks to me at times through falling rain

Hazey Jane

Do you curse where you come from,
Do you swear in the night
Will it mean much to you
If I treat you right.
Do you like what you're doing,
Would you do it some more
Or will you stop once and wonder
What you're doing it for.
Hey slow Jane, make sense
Slow, slow, Jane, cross the fence.
Do you feel like a remnant
Of something that's past
Do you find things are moving
Just a little too fast.
Do you hope to find new ways
Of quenching your thirst,
Do you hope to find new ways
Of doing better than your worst.
Hey slow Jane, let me prove
Slow, slow Jane, we're on the move.
Do it for you,
Sure that you would do the same for me one day.
So try to be true,
Even if it's only in your hazey way.
Can you tell if you're moving
With no mirror to see,
If you're just riding a new man
Looks a little like me.
Is it all so confusing,
Is it hard to believe
When the winter is coming
Can you sign up and leave.
Hey slow Jane, live your lie
Slow, slow jane, fly on by.

It's Funny

It's funny to see a bunny, hop on top a carrot cop.

It's funny to see honey, drip on Chips big lip.

It's funny to see money, fly sky high in an apple pie.

It's funny to see sunny, shine on brine while drinking wine.

It's funny to see gunny, shoot and scoot while steeling loot.

It's funny a poet, can write about nothing...and know it!

Sunny

Were really missing you
Were really missing you
Oh, and youve only just gone
Oh, well, you punched and fell
Then you felt embarrassed
My heart goes out to you
So I offered love
And it was not required
Oh, what else can I do ?
What else can I do ?
Were really missing you
Were really missing you
And youve only just gone
So, sunny, send at least one thoughtful letter
My heart goes out to you
Tell us all how things are so much better
My heart, it left with you
What else can I do ?
Oh, theyre not forgiving you
And youre not even wrong
Oh, with your jean belt wrapped around your arm
Oh, sunny, my heart goes out to you
And with a needle pressed onto tight skin
Sunny, I cry when I see where its taken you
Aah ...
Im here, I wont move
Aah ...
Im here, I wont move
Aah ...
Im here, I will not move
Aah ...

House of Dreams

The house was ready to move right in
When Jane and John were wed,
A wall in the lounge was a TV screen
And another, over their bed,
It was fitted with every gadget
That could open, close or sing,
‘We want it to be the most modern house, '
Said Jane, ‘with everything! '

The washing machine was silent as
It whisked around their clothes,
They ate right out of the dishwasher,
Why stack them, keep it closed,
The carpets muffled their every step
They had a luxurious pile,
‘It's just like walking on clouds, ' said John,
As they wandered round for a while.

The lights were hidden in ceilings
Casting a faint, enchanted glow,
And speakers whispered their music
Following round, wherever they'd go,
They had ipods and pads and things
And touch screens all about,
‘It certainly is the house of dreams
So why would we want to go out? '

John would follow his wife around
The room with his loving eyes,
While Jane would gaze at the garden
Through the shades, with heaving sighs,
‘There's so much love in our little house,
I feel it's almost a dream, '
Said Jane, who stayed in her nightie:
‘Why get dressed, the clothes are clean! '

The oven there in the kitchen had
Six burners, worked on gas,
But Jane never got to turn it on,
‘We have to make it last! '
They sent for take-out, burgers, fries,
For a treat they'd eat Chinese,
‘And that is the beauty of this house,
We can do whatever we please! '

John had installed a system that
Was called ‘The House of Love',
It whispered insidious messages
From the speakers up above,
‘Oh Jane, you are so beautiful, '
It would whisper in the shower,
Told John: ‘you're such a lucky man,
To be let in your lady's bower.'

A speaker out in the mailbox said:
‘Hello there, Mister Man,
I see that you have some letters there,
Just place them in the can.
Or maybe you'd like to take them up
And slide them under the door,
They're busy now, in making love,
We'd be thankful, Man, I'm sure! '

When visitors rang the bell, they'd hear
The sound of a drawn out sigh,
‘John and Jane aren't in today,
But they'll phone you, by and by! '
Both friends and family ceased to call,
Got on with their mundane lives,
‘That pair have nothing they want to share, '
Said the husbands, to their wives.

A year went by in a flash, the bliss
Was almost too much to bear,
‘Why don't you move, ' said Jane one day,
You're still in that same old chair! '
‘You're getting fat, ' said John to Jane,
As he looked at her burgeoning thighs,
Maybe we ought to go out one day,
Go out for some exercise! '

They sat and stared at the oak front door,
They sat and stared for a week,
‘Maybe you're right, we should go out,
If only to take a peek.'
John turned the knob on the door, and pulled
But he found that it wouldn't budge,
‘The wood has swelled, Oh, Merry Hell, '
He swore, ‘we'll wait for a nudge! '

They hoped when a visitor came to call
They would push from the other side,
But no-one called, they'd given up,
Stayed home with their dented pride,
And tempers frayed in the house of love
As the voices whispered on:
‘Oh Jane, you have such beautiful thighs,
Now why did you say that, John? '

The take-out came through a window
Far too small to be climbed on through,
For Jane had the hips of an elephant,
And John had the belly of two,
The Pizza boy was a slender lad
And he'd nudge and he'd nudge in vain,
But the door stayed fast ‘til the very last
Until the firemen came!

The voice said, ‘Hi there, Mister Man,
I can see you're coming on through…'
The firemen called on the local police,
‘See here! Now what do we do? '
For Jane lay drowned in a half filled tub
While John had sat down, and choked,
‘You shouldn't have said that, John, ' it said,
The knife was still stuck in his throat!
