A Boy Growing Up In The Sixties
Played football
played marbles
played cricket
played truant.
First girl
first kiss
first fumble
first slap.
Drank orange
drank Cola
drank lemonade
drank beer.
Acted tough
acted silly
acted up
acted the fool.
Just young
just a boy
just a lad
just me.
The sixties
The Beatles
The Stones
The Who.
Great days
great times
great decade
Great Britain.

A poem for Football lovers
Football can make you cry
it can also bring you joy
I've played and watched it
as a man and a small boy.
Football has great players
like the one and only Messi
the Argentinian is a genius
I wished he played for Coventry.
Football is the favourite sport
no other game comes anywhere near
in the U.K.it's the number one pastime
just beating fishing and drinking beer.
Football though can be an addiction
it can be on your mind all of the day
your thinking about goals, shots, and saves,
and even talking about it to God when you pray.
So long may Football be played on our planet
even though it has trouble along the way
but just think if there was no Football at all
us fans would have nothing to do on a Saturday!

I sung sometimes
I sung sometimes my thoughts’ and fancy's pleasure,
Where then I list, or time serv’d best and leisure,
While Daphne did invite me
To supper once, and drank to me to spite me.
I smil’d, yet still did doubt her,
And drank where she had drank before, to flout her.
But oh while I did eye her,
My eyes drank love, my lips drank burning fire.

Zero
Never can make up for the past
But can start with respect at last
For you woman are a gas
You are all those... what I want and need...
Thoughts.
Now that I think about it...
You have always been there for me...
Even when I was not there for you.
You are a true unselfish being
That make you some kinda special gift...
I've did some great things on this planet...
Behaved like a god?
Acted like a god?
played god?
I have been plan foolish.
But somehow you always put me
Next to you and fear me not...
A smile from you...and

You Were Right Girl
Its hard to say how long its been, but once upon a time
You were my best friend, Im sorry I hurt you but I loved him, loved him
You said Id get hurt in the end, you tried to warn me with good advice
Instead of listening, I paid the price, yes I did, you told me back then
You said hell love you, leave you, you said his heart was cold as ice
And you were right girl, yes, he played me for a fool, (you were right girl)
Hmm, it all came true, (you were right girl), I know
I should have known it all along, (you were right girl)
Yes, you were right and I was wrong, I thought you blamed him for your mistakes
That all your put downs were just sour grapes, you told me back then
That theyll be lyin, cryin and it wont be his heart that breaks
And ooh, (you were right girl) you were right girl
He played me for a fool, (you were right girl) oh
It all came true, you were (you were right girl) right girl
Yes, I should have known it all along (you were right girl)
You were right girl, you were right and I was wrong
Oh, what made me think that I was different from you
That I could make him do what he wouldnt do for you
Now you told me back then Id never change him, change him
But hed change me before hes through, and ooh (you were right girl)
You were right girl, he played me for a fool, he really did
(you were right girl) well, it all came true, (you were right girl)
You were so right, I should have known it all along (you were right girl)
Oh, yes, you were right and I was wrong, oh, (you were right girl)
He really played me for a fool, (you were right girl)
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, it all came true (you were right girl)
Yeah, (you were right girl) you were right girl
I should have known it all along, (you were righ girl)
You were right girlfriend, you were right and I was wrong, woo, woo, woo
(you were right girl) you were right my girl, (you were right girl)
You were right my girl, he played me for a great big fool

Sally Maclennane
Well jimmy played harmonica in the pub where I was born
He played it from the night time to the peaceful early morn
He soothed the souls of psychos and the men who had the horn
And they all looked very happy in the morning
Now jimmy didnt like his place in this world of ours
Where the elephant man broke strong mens necks
When hed had too many powers
So sad to see the grieving of the people that hes leaving
And he took the road for God knows in the morning
We walked him to the station in the rain
We kissed him as we put him on the train
And we sang him a song of times long gone
Though we knew that wed be seeing him again
(far away) sad to say I must be on my way
So buy me beer and whiskey cause Im going far away (far away)
Id like to think of me returning when I can
To the greatest little boozer and to sally maclennane
The years passed by the times had changed I grew to be a man
I learned to love the virtues of sweet sally maclennane
I took the jeers and drank the beers and crawled back home at dawn
And ended up a barman in the morning
I played the pump and took the hump and watered whiskey down
I talked of whores and horses to the men who drank the brown
I heard them say that jimmys making money far away
And some people left for heaven without warning
We walked him to the station in the rain
We kissed him as we put him on the train
And we sang him a song of times long gone
Though we knew that wed be seeing him again
(far away) sad to say I must be on my way
So buy me beer and whiskey cause Im going far away (far away)
Id like to think of me returning when I can
To the greatest little boozer and to sally maclennane
When jimmy came back home he was surprised that they were gone
He asked me all the details of the train that they went on
Some people they are scared to croak but jimmy drank until he choked
And he took the road for heaven in the morning
We walked him to the station in the rain
We kissed him as we put him on the train
And we sang him a song of times long gone
Though we knew that wed be seeing him again
(far away) sad to say I must be on my way
So buy me beer and whiskey cause Im going far away (far away)

Outside Of The OK Corral
This shoot 'em up bang bang business,
Doesn't sit too well with me.
What's happening outside of the OK Corral,
Isn't my cup of tea...
Even if I drank it.
With lemon and three teaspoonsful of sugar.
A lot today has gotten out of hand.
Too many people have sat,
While ignorance took command.
And when in Rome...
You know what is said about that?
Arm yourself with a weapon!
Even if it's a baseball bat.
That might not have exactly been said,
About Rome.
But neither am I Scottish.
And I am tired of hearing bagpipes played,
At some young child's funeral...
That drank scotch and knew nothing about church.
This shoot 'em up bang bang business,
Doesn't sit too well with me.
What's happening outside of the OK Corral,
Isn't my cup of tea...
Even if I drank it.
With lemon and three teaspoonsful of sugar.
Who approved these activities in the first place?

All I Need Was You
Outside the church bells toll
For this wasteland we call home
There's nowhere left to hide or run to
Daddy drank real hard late at night
He'd say without love life's a long fight
l promised I'd win one fight for him babe
The storm outside is raging
I close my eyes l think about you babe
There's got to be something left worth saving
We've wasted too much time
I played the fool I played the soldier
But my struggling days are over
I wanted everything
When all l needed was you babe
l didn't understand I was just a young boy
All I wanted was the rich man's play toys
I didn't really care how I got there baby
Now I've seen a thousand dreams die
In the oil fields in the coal mines
No need to wonder why
nobody's satisfied lately
The storm outside is raging
I close my eyes l think about you babe
There's got to be something left worth saving
We've wasted too much time
I played the fool I played the soldier
But my struggling days are over
I wanted everything
When all l needed was you babe

To act as lover is hard.
When I acted as a king,
I didn’t feel being a king.
When I acted as a clown,
I didn’t feel being a fool.
When I acted as a lover
I couldn’t feel otherwise.

Fridays Angels
Your heroes stare with glossy smiles - fridays angels
They always had that special style - fridays angels
Standing naked dressings at trial - fridays angels
Youd give anything to be there for a while -
Fridays angels
Youre made up - played up and feeling great
Made up - played up and feeling great
Made up - played up and feeling great
But the mirror knows - youre a proper state
You paint a face thats toppled kings - fridays angels
Dressed in the drag of a killer thing - fridays angels
Loaded - tough to prove youre alive - fridays angels
Its a hard hard world but youll survive -
Fridays angels
Youre made up - played up and feeling great
Made up - played up and feeling great
Made up - played up and feeling great
But the mirror knows
The mirror knows - youre a proper state
Mum and dad think youre a maniac
To walk the streets dressed up like that
When you go out you wont be back
Youll risk the vampires on a friday night
And you dont care you know youre right
And you dont care you know youre right
And you dont care you know youre right
And you dont care you know youre right

My Friends Back In My Prime Years
My friends back in my prime years I never did disown
It's just that I live far from them and apart we have grown
We drank and played football together but our separate ways we've gone
And we have forged new friendships and life of course goes on.
My friends back in my prime years may now look a bit gray
And they might not know me or I might not know them if by chance we met today
In my memory they have remained young but in reality
The years have left their mark on them as the years have left their mark on me.
Old father time the aloof one to anyone doesn't bow
And some of my friends of my prime years may be grand parents now
Perhaps they now are showing their age and time has left them slow
They could run fast as I recall some twenty years ago.
My friends back in my prime years I may now not recognize
For time leaves it's mark on all of us I've come to realize
I drunk beer with them in the pub and with them played football
And that was many years ago as I can well recall.

Game Shows And Dog Chews
Watching television together is what we would choose,
viewing game shows and tasting dog chews.
Grandpa and I were very close, though we never played together,
our time together was grandiose.
Things for him I always brang, such as a cold glass of water,
or Park, NOT Tang!
Yes, there were times when he was a grump, but to me,
he never acted a chump.
Off he would go in 'John's Cadillac', his electric cart,
to get a thing or two from the local mart.
Very excited I would be when going to visit grandma and he,
despite the fact of me getting things for him, oh, he kept me as busy as a bee!
When I heard news of his death, I took a relieved breath. Better off he is with the Lord,
than to suffer in great discord.
It is because of grandpa that I love game shows. Watching 'The Price is Right' causes memories
of him to overflow.
I will always smile when I think of the time we tasted my dog's treats, I can't wait 'til in the
great beyond we finally meet.

All for belly
One acted as a king, the other as a queen.
One acted as a priest, the other as a beast.
The villains and servants were other rolls.
Each one did one’s best, yes, for his belly.

Girl On LSD
i was in love with a girl on marjuana
she said if "i'm that stoned i don't wana"
but she got so paranoid
her place i would avoid
i was in love with a girl on marjuana
i was in love with a girl on cocaine
she had everything going but a brain
we'd talk endlessly for hours
but by morning it goes sour
i was in love with a girl on cocaine
through exctasy, crystel meth and glue
i found no drug that compares to you
all these pills, all this weed
i dunno just what i need
i was in love with a girl on lsd
she'd see things i'd never see
she brightened her perspective
then i got more selective
i was in love with a girl on lsd
through exctasy, crystal meth and glue
i found no drug that compares to you
all these pills, all this weed
i dunno just what i need
i was in love with a girl who drank beer
till bad breath and all she disapeared
she was blowing up real bad
but when she left i was still sad
i was in love with a girl who drank beer
i was in love with a girl on china white
we were married for a year one day
her memory still lingers
cus i burned all my fingers
i was in love with a girl on chennaway
i was in love with a girl who drank coffee
there was times when i couldn't keep her off me
that caffine got her going
but her ugly side was showing
i was in love with a girl who drank coffee
i was in love with a girl who was a dealer
i was afraid somebody would come and steal her
we never used to fight
but the phone rang day and night
i was in love with a girl who was a dealer
sure as hell
she got popped by the big guys

A Poetic Prayer
I know, you don’t
enjoy reading me
I know , it lacks
metaphor and simile!
But, I 've poured
true emotions on it
As I am trying to redeem
soul of a culprit!
Yes, Tears, sighs or wails
had no impact on me!
Alas, I ate, drank and
acted care free!
That shame
Of being indifferent!
Of being a wastrel!
Can be mend
Allow me
to make a new beginning
May be,
I can turn into a blessing!

Hear Me Out
Im sorry, baby. I didnt mean to do what I did.
I mean, it just happened so fast, you know?
I woke up out of the situation.
And I was like, mike, you dont even need to go out like this.
And thats why Im calling you, you know?
Just listen to me.
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart.
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart.
Ooh, at home all alone thinking to my self
What a fool I was for letting you go (letting you go).
If I could re-wind the hands of time,
Id take back every word that made you cry (dont cry).
I know I acted kind of crazy (I know I acted kind of crazy).
I need you now to understand me (please understand me).
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart.
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart.
Well, now is the time for us to realize how much we mean to each other, girl (to each other, girl).
Just dont walk away. thats much too easy.
Im begging you to stay (stay).
I know I acted kind of crazy (I know I acted kind of crazy).
I need you now to understand me (please understand me).
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart. (you know Ill get down on my knees and say...)
Hear me out, girl. hear me out, girl.
My apologies for breaking your heart...

The Weekend Blues Session
Three days and three nights
playing the guitar blues of life
my mind and body taken back
I can see
the old streets and the seats
where the blues players of old
used to meet
They'd sing of the pain
and the hate
and we'd respect what they
had to say
All these memories coming back
as we played for the times
when blues was our life
We played for the joy
we played for our minds
we played for our souls
we played until the monday morning blues

Alcohol
When I was nearly round the bend
I turned to you,
I had a drink or two,
I thought that you would help, False Friend!
And so I drank and drank and drank,
And hoped that you would fill the void!
But look at me now, defeated and destroyed,
My misery will never end,
What can I do?
Where is my hope?
Where are the things that I enjoyed?
How can I cope?
By finishing with you, False Friend!
This is the End! !

Welcome Home
(chip taylor)
We acted like children
Now, dont tell me that youre sorry
Darling, Im as much to blame as anyone
Its over and done
Baby, Im so glad to have you home
Welcome home, my baby
Welcome home, my baby
And this time well make it
Well give a love as well as take it
Well let pride be something we have in our love
Not just in ourselves
Baby, its so good to have you home
Welcome home, my baby
Welcome home, my baby
Into my arms
Into my heart
Into my life
Into my life
Forever
cause we acted just like children
Baby, forgive me
I said Im sorry
I know I acted like a fool
Baby, baby, baby please dont take it out on me
Ooh, ooh
Baby, baby
