Just Me Since You've Been Gone

I can't look at the stars anymore
Did dawn turn the sunlight on?
Is that blue moon as sad as before
Or is it just me since you've been gone.
My rose tinted specs are broken
I shiver in the cold light of day
The Shakespeare in me has awoken
Alas, I'm an extra
In loves' great play.
Was that the stage I died upon
Or is it just me since you've been gone.
My world is in black and white
My colours have run away,
An angry wind has stolen my kite
And I can't chase rainbows today.
Is it in my stars?
Or too much time in bars
When nightmares still linger on.
Is it Karma
Disarming this charmer
Or is it just me since you've been gone.
I'm in the dark
Where a light once shone.
I'm crying when the world thinks I'm clowning
I'm dead in the water not drowning.
No, it's just me since you've been gone
Feel free to just walk on.

Sky

I love the sky
That lives in your eye.
Or flies the stars so high.
That canvas to treetops
And migrant flock.
The water colours that run
Above that lonely loch.
I love the sky.
There, the sun and moon
Share a room.
One sleeping
One rising in wonder.
Clouds shed a tear
In fear of dark thunder.
Moonlight
Breathes love in blue beam.
Sunlight
Is strawberries and cream
That follow a childlike dawn.
Remember your hope being born?
Yes, I love the sky
I collect sunsets
And rainbows
To fly.
Like a kite
When the light runs away.
So put your trust
In some stardust today.
That lullabye
For every sorrow
Will bring new dreams
With a forever tomorrow.

Sunrise

(eric carmen)
Sunrise, shine down a little love
On the world today
Make a morning so sweet
That itll have to chase my blues away
Oh, the moon and stars have gone
And I can see the light of dawn
Like a golden smile
Brightening up the brand new day
Sunrise, come wrap me in the warmth
Of your crimson sky
I spent a long time believin
In a dream that had passed me by
But the moon and stars have gone
And I can see the light of dawn
Like a golden smile
Brightening up the morning sky
From my bed I can hear the world outside
I get up, throw my window open wide
Take a breath of that fresh air
Take a breath of that fresh air
Fresh air
Sunrise, shine down a little love
On the world today
Make a morning so sweet
That itll have to chase my blues away
Oh, the moon and stars have gone
And I can see the light of dawn
Like a golden smile
Brightening up the brand new day
Brand new day

Not Quite Dawn

Not quite dawn, night seeping out of the blue,
troubled sleep, no stars, and you, a week gone,
the whole universe applying its laws to your absence
which is the silence everything returns to like water.
I have never touched you, so my fingertips
can still play you into existence on a keyboard,
though the loss of your voice is a dead bird,
and I am a loose thread of blood in a labyrinth
of motherboards and micro-chips like me
who can’t find a way out of themselves without
turning away like a planet from its own stars.
How quickly the light comes, and the darkness
bleeds away like a love-letter under the door.
No eyes. No hands. No skin. No hair. I am
not even the ashes of a cleft witching wand
that went looking for water and caught fire instead,
and we have shared only the light of the mind
that paints a world with the shadows of a ghost,
and might only be the last habit of an amputee to leave,
a mere mime of the way our eyes make us see.
And yet the heart hurts as if you once were flesh,
and I am awake as if another bed denied me my own,
and I am angry and sad, scared and alone as if
the universe were shy one comet, one bead,
one firefly among billions who shone for me
and that light was brighter somehow than a galaxy.
The day grows a new skin over your absence,
and I am as out of place, out of time, as a streetlamp
still shining down on its feet in the morning.
And there could be a thousand and one reasons
you don’t write back, why the black crow caws,
the sky is a concrete rose, the blood of the poppy
runs along the gypsy blade of its undulant smile.
From the heights, I can see a small, blue egg
smashed on the rocks below, a gesture of ruin;
from the depths, the remnants of a shattered star,
and all I can do is stare into the relentless images,
a word without a mouth, like the new moon
shucked from my tongue like a black pearl.

Stars On The Water

(Rodney Crowell)
Down in Louisiana bayous by and by
A peirot pole or your natural soul
Keeps you tied to a tree high tide
Beer joint lights come on
And then crowd starts rollin' in
Pretty soon you got stars on the water
You got stars on the water
You got stars on the water
When it rains
Beaumont to Biloxi sea breeze at your door
Gypsy rains dang hurricanes
White silver sandy shores
Blue light lounge is shinin'
Why out on the pier
Makes it look just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
When it rains
When it's midnight down in Mobile
Shining moon beams on the bay
They come from miles around
To dance the jukebox down
Th hear the good time sounds they play
And all across the harbor night life shinin' on
Makes you feel just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
When it rains

Crying For Arab Martyrs

crying for Arab martyrs'
who have died
who are dying
because they believe
in freedom
because they believe
they others should be free

in black rose freedom

crying for Arabs
as we have cried
for others
who were prepared
to die
so others
could be free

in black rose freedom

crying because
these younger youth
have died
not just
before their rightful time
but have so young died
before older men

in black rose freedom

crying because
in this world today
it is necessary
for the ordinary
bravest best civilians
to die
so others might can be free

in black rose freedom

do not blame Arab
dictator
for civilian deaths
in Aleppo? ? ?
without Russian Chinese
political muscle flexing
merciless

backing blood would not flow
in black rose freedom
blood red black rose withers

Available Light

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
The restless wind
Has seen all things
In every kind of light
Rising with the full moon
To go howling through the night
The sleepless wind
Has heard all things
Between the sea and sky
In the canyons of the city
You can hear the buildings cry
Oh the wind can carry
All the voices of the sea
Oh the wind can carry
All the echoes home to me
Run with wind and weather
To the music of the sea
All four winds together
Cant bring the world to me
Chase the wind around the world
I want to look at life --- in the available light
Play of light
A photograph
The way I used to be
Some half-forgotten stranger
Doesnt mean that much to me
Trick of light
Moving picture
Moments caught in flight
Make the shadows darker
Or the colors shine too bright
Oh the light can carry
All the visions of the sea
Oh the light can carry
All the images to me
Run to light from shadow
Sun gives me no rest
Promise offered in the east
Broken in the west
Chase the sun around the world
I want to look at life --- in the available light
All four winds together
Cant bring the world to me
Shadows hide the play of light
So much I want to see
Chase the light around the world
I want to look at life --- in the available light
Ill go with the wind
Ill stand in the light

Moon Under Water

In the movement of the waves
Feel the rushing of the wind
You're in everything i see
Like a visionaries dream
Preaching to the silence
It's waiting for me
Like a moon under the water
There's a sky under the sea
This world is like an ocean
An it's drowning me
There's a moon under the water
Throw a stone into the pool
See the ripples run forever
And, time, for longer still
See the moon under the water
And the sky under the sea
This world is like an ocean
An it's drowning me
There's a moon under the water
There's a sky under the sea

The Bunyip

Oh, came you up by the place of dread
(west red, and the moon low down)
where no winds blow and the birds have fled
and the gum stands dead and its arms gleam white,
and the tribe sneak by with a stealthy tread
in the ghostly light,in the ghostly light.
Brave Worraland went one grey nightfall
(A woi! woi!) where the grim rocks frown;
he came no more to the camps at all
(Skies dark, and the moon low down).

As we came up by the gully side
(Deep dusk, and the moon low down)
A Dingo whined and a Curlew cried
and the reeds replied as in hushed affright
where tall brae Worraland screamed and died
in the ghostly light, in the ghostly light.
For the Thing lurks there in the haunted place
(A woi! woi!) where the pool is brown,
where lost ones vanish and leave no trace
(Day dead, and the moon low down).

Of, go not by near the bunyip's lair
(Stars dim, and the moon low down)
or tip-toe past and beware, beware
the dark pool snare and be set for flight,
for things of terror have happened there
in the ghostly light, in the ghostly light
and in the gunyas we crouch and hark
(A woi! woi!) where the dead men drown
The monster's bellow across the dark
(Stars gone, and the moon low down).

Light Your Stars

The sunlight reflects in your eyes
Your tears ceased to flow
You're back in balance
The fallacies leave you alone
And your nightmares are replaced by reality
You're floating away
Right up and over the barriers and borders
Boundless and free is your mind
It took ages for you to feel this way again
Light your stars
You could stand the fascination
And you're falling weightlessly
To close your diary
Light your stars
You could understand relations
And you're falling weightlessly
Until the diary is done
You're leaving the fear far behind
And you're trying to battle with great temptation
Like maggots, it's eating at you
Do you pray at night, you're strong enough to resist?
You're tossing in bed
And all you perceive is a blurred world in strange lies
Tearing the visions all down
Defeated your so lost in tranquillity

Shades Of Gray (Master Backing Track Take 98)

When the world and I were young, just yesterday
Life was such a simple game a child could play
It was easy then to tell right from wrong
Easy then to tell weak from strong
When a man should stand and fight
Or just go along
But today, there is no day or night
Today, there is no dark or light
Today, there is no black or white
Only shades of gray
I remember when the answer seemed so clear
We had never lived with doubt, or tasted fear
It was easy then to tell truth from lies
Selling out from compromise
Who to love and who to hate
The foolish from the wise
But today, there is no day or night
Today, there is no dark or light
Today, there is no black or white
Only shades of gray
It was easy then to know what was fair
When to keep and when to share
How much to protect your heart
And how much to care
But today, there is no day or night
Today, there is no dark or light
Today, there is no black or white
Only shades of gray
Only shades of gray

The Last Time

If you want it
Dont look at my face
Its the last time
Its not forever
The dust in the wind
Its the last time
One world, one dream
The stars in your hand
No light, no life
The scars are made by man
Heaven cant help you now
In this madness
Take it while you can
Its the last time
This holy water
Running away
For the last time
One world, one dream
The stars in your hand
No light, no life
So heal the scars of man
One chance, this night
To shine on this land
This time, with pride
Give back now while you can
All these fields, that once were green
Have turned to smoke and steel
The sun will fall, and the last moon rise
Dont turn this tide away
If you want it
So start it again
Its the last time
(the scars were made by man)
Its not forever
The dust is the wind
For the last time
One world, one dream
The stars in your hand
No light, no life
So heal the scars of man
One chance, this night
To shine on this land
This time, with pride
Give back now while you can

Water

Now everybody tells me youre the dogs best friend
Im the cats meow since I dont know when
Im an instigator from a dead mans town
So when did the whole world turn upside down
When did you change your mind, when did you lose the juice
Now where did you get your attitude
When did you give it away, what did the old man say
And how many babies did you kick today
Now how many nights can the full moon shine
How many bottles of water can you turn to wine
When the blood has flowed against the tides of time
And the water flows forever
Hey hey hey!
Now Im gonna build a boat, Im gonna make it float
cause Im getting the chase for a faraway place
Gonna set the sail, gonna catch some wind
And the big red skys gonna be my only friend
With a boat for two, just me and you
You can be my teacher, I can teach you too
Gonna try a few things that Ive never done
Maybe talk to the fishies, maybe have some fun
Maybe shake my pale fist at the angry stars
While I dance a jig under the eyes of mars
When we get to an island where no ones ever been
We can get down and dirty in our animal skins
And I stand with my thing hanging out in the wind
Where the waters sweet like honey
Hey hey yeah hey hey yeah!
Ive been feeling a chill, from the east wind blue
Its been creeping up slow, have you felt it too?
Have you noticed the look? have you felt the feel?
Did it make you blush when the piggy squealed
Have you heard what they say, did you read the news
Said the old mans coming home a-singing the blues
Gonna whack your fanny, gonna tan your hide
Make your ears turn red, make you gonna cry
Now how many children gonna lose their minds
How many crying girls will be left behind
When the dead start walking and the full moon shines
When the dead start walking and the full moon shines
When the dead start walking and the full moon shines
When the dead start walking and the full moon shines
When the dead start walking... yeah
Now everybody sing to the heavens above
And everybody dance to the sounds of love
Wont you clack your teeth, wont you smack your hands
Wont you dig your little heads right out of the sand
Wont you jiggle your butt, wont you wave your arms
Wont you look like you just came off of the farm
Wont you stop your fighting for a second or two
Wont you help your neighbors, wont you do the do
Wont you taste the sugar, wont you eat the cake
Wont you get your ugly mug right out of my face
Wont you tell your brothers and your sisters tonight,
That you tasted the water and the water was right
Wont you taste the sugar, wont you dance the dance
Wont you wake up please, come on out of your trance
Everybody make believe that you disappear
For a second or two, gonna feel so queer
And you left behind all your rage and fear
And it made you feel like water

Song - Sea of Sand

You sent me to the moon
Across a silent sea of sand
I was reaching for your hand
But you were standing on a hill

You launched me to the moon
Across the wind between the stars
I was reaching through the sand
But I was fading out of view

I was just a photograph
An old fading black and white
Taken by a passer-by
When the sun was out of sight

You sent me to the moon
I caught the desolation bus
There was no-one there but us
I saw your shadow on the sand

You sent me to the moon
Down every road we’ve ever walked
Every place we strayed or talked
When we were higher than the wind

I went searching all the stars
Between the avenues and bars
You were everywhere I went
In a different universe

You sent me to the moon
Across the frozen wastes of old
Where the howling wind blew cold
Where I lost you in the snow

You sent me to the moon
Although I didn’t want to know
But I built myself a home
Between the rainbow and the stones

I was frozen to the bone
In the icy wind of truth
I was free and on my own
In my castle on the moon

You sent me to the moon
Across a silent sea of sand
I was reaching for your hand
But you were standing on a hill

(Thanks to Tailor Bell for 'higher than the wind')

The World Is Stone

Stone, the world is stone
Its no trick of the light
Its hard on the soul
Stone, the world is stone
Cold to the touch
And hard on the soul
In the grey of the streets
In the neon unknown
I look for a sign
That Im not on my own
That Im not here alone
As the still of the night
And the choke of the air
And the winners delight
And the losers despair
Closes in left and right
I would love not to care
Stone, the world is stone
From a faraway look
Without stars in my eyes
Through the halls of the rich
And the flats of the poor
Wherever I go
Theres no warmth anymore
Theres no love anymore
So I turn on my heels
Im declining the fall
Ive had all I can take
With my back to the wall
Tell the world Im not in
Im not taking the call
Stone, the world is stone
But I saw it once
With the stars in my eyes
When each colour rang out
In a thunderous chrome
Its no trick of the light
I cant find my way home
In a world of stone

Faceless World

Listen to me - this is a warning
You have to wake up out of this dream
Dont be a member of this lifestyle, please
I hear the beat of your heart
So better watch them - dont be frightened
Cant you feel it - cant you see it this time
So many things appear like wonders
Be shameless my friend - save what youve got
Welcome to this crazy world
You cannot blame everyone
See the stars and see the rainbows - see it all
Dont turn away - youre all youve got
In a faceless world
You can run - but you cant hide
Its yourself who waits for you inside
So believe me its not evil
To break out of this spell
Dont be wasting a whole lifetime
Dont betray yourself anymore
So hear me calling - this is a warning
When you feel it - dont lose it this time
One day you will be way stronger
Be clever old friend, cause then youll be free
Welcome to this crazy world
You cannot blame everyone
Dreams can come true
See the stars and see the rainbows - open your eyes
Dont turn away - youre all youve got
In a faceless world
You can run - but you cant hide
Its yourself who waits for you inside
So hear me calling
Dont wanna mistreat anymore
Just one desire
I want to break this spell
No more wondering
I wanna be clever this time
I hear your warning
I just wanna be myself
Saw the stars and all the rainbows - youve seen it all
You realized - youre all youve got
In the faceless world
You tried to run - but couldnt hide
It was you who found yourself inside
So hear me calling
Stop betraying yourself
Dont waste all your lifetime
Youve been mistreated so many times
In this faceless world
Youve got to break out of this spell
Listen to your heartbeat
Be restless my friend
Just one desire
I just wanna be myself

If I was in the Moon - Pinewood Royal

From an idea by Sophie Mitchell-Dwelly

Before the coming of the night
I see the moon rise all dressed in white
In the crepuscular light
I see the stars come out so bright
As I watch the stars appear
Like diamonds on a velvet blanket
And when the sky is clear
I'm so glad that I am here with you
Oh The Moon she looks so pale
Do you think she's happy in her misty veil?
Oh her light is everywhere
On a beach of pebbles we're standing there
If I was in the moon
I wouldn't want to leave too soon
If I was in the moon
I might just stay for ever
Oh Dancing in the moonlight
Our feet feel so light
Dancing in the moonlight
Oh the stars are so bright
Owls calling through the trees
And the frogs are chirping in the evening breeze
The crickets play their tune
By the light of the magical moon
If I was in the moon
I wouldn't want to leave too soon
If I was in the moon
I might just stay for ever

Finding

From the candles and dumb shadows,
And the house where love had died,
I stole to the vast moonlight
And the whispering life outside.
But I found no lips of comfort,
No home in the moon's light
(I, little and lone and frightened
In the unfriendly night),
And no meaning in the voices. . . .
Far over the lands and through
The dark, beyond the ocean,
I willed to think of you!
For I knew, had you been with me
I'd have known the words of night,
Found peace of heart, gone gladly
In comfort of that light.

Oh! the wind with soft beguiling
Would have stolen my thought away;
And the night, subtly smiling,
Came by the silver way;
And the moon came down and danced to me,
And her robe was white and flying;
And trees bent their heads to me
Mysteriously crying;
And dead voices wept around me;
And dead soft fingers thrilled;
And the little gods whispered. . . .
But ever
Desperately I willed;
Till all grew soft and far
And silent . . .
And suddenly
I found you white and radiant,
Sleeping quietly,
Far out through the tides of darkness.
And I there in that great light
Was alone no more, nor fearful;
For there, in the homely night,
Was no thought else that mattered,
And nothing else was true,
But the white fire of moonlight,
And a white dream of you.
