Fifteen, Maybe Sixteen Things to Worry About

My pants could maybe fall down when I dive off the diving board.
My nose could maybe keep growing and never quit.
Miss Brearly could ask me to spell words like stomach and special.
(Stumick and speshul?)
I could play tag all day and always be "it."
Jay Spievack, who's fourteen feet tall, could want to fight me.
My mom and my dad--like Ted's--could want a divorce.
Miss Brearly could ask me a question about Afghanistan.
(Who's Afghanistan?)
Somebody maybe could make me ride a horse.
My mother could maybe decide that I needed more liver.
My dad could decide that I needed less TV.
Miss Brearly could say that I have to write script and stop printing.
(I'm better at printing.)
Chris could decide to stop being friends with me.

The world could maybe come to an end on next Tuesday.
The ceiling could maybe come crashing on my head.
I maybe could run out of things for me to worry about.
And then I'd have to do my homework instead.

I Miss My Innocence

I miss my swing, I miss my whip,
I miss my mother's grip,
my dirty hands and my soiled feet
my filthy face, my innocence.
I miss the way i used my slipper,
the incorrect way of wearing my t-shirt
I miss my friends and their sweet grins,
the way we talk and brag,
I miss the places where we used to play-
I miss my childish years yeah!
i miss my innocence.

Little miss brag

Little Miss Brag has much to say
To the rich little lady from over the way
And the rich little lady puts out a lip
As she looks at her own white, dainty slip,
And wishes that she could wear a gown
As pretty as gingham of faded brown!
For little Miss Brag she lays much stress
On the privileges of a gingham dress -
"Aha,
Oho!"

The rich little lady from over the way
Has beautiful dolls in vast array;
Yet she envies the raggedy home-made doll
She hears our little Miss Brag extol.
For the raggedy doll can fear no hurt
From wet, or heat, or tumble, or dirt!
Her nose is inked, and her mouth is, too,
And one eye's black and the other's blue -
"Aha,
Oho!"

The rich little lady goes out to ride
With footmen standing up outside,
Yet wishes that, sometimes, after dark
Her father would trundle her in the park; -
That, sometimes, her mother would sing the things
Little Miss Brag says her mother sings
When through the attic window streams
The moonlight full of golden dreams -
"Aha,
Oho!"

Yes, little Miss Brag has much to say
To the rich little lady from over the way;
And yet who knows but from her heart
Often the bitter sighs upstart -
Uprise to lose their burn and sting
In the grace of the tongue that loves to sing
Praise of the treasures all its own!
So I've come to love that treble tone -
"Aha,
Oho!"

Miss You

By eric clapton, greg phillinganes and bobby columby
Dont change your mind,
I aint got the time to sit and wonder.
Im doing fine.
If you decide to leave, I wont go under.
You know Ive come this far without you;
It wont be too hard to be alone.
Ive got choices all around me,
So I wont be spending too much time at home.
Girl, Im gonna miss you.
Im gonna miss you, baby.
I cant forgive you,
Instead Im gonna miss you, baby.
No, dont say a word.
I already heard that you dont love me.
In your state of mind,
I dont need to hear your side of the story.
Your friends all said we had a future
And I dont think I really want to know.
My friends keep telling me to lose you
And how glad theyll be when you decide to go.
Chorus
I broke my back to make you happy.
Sometime, somehow, someones got to care.
If you think youre better off without me,
Just remember, its a dirty world out there.
Chorus
Im gonna miss the ground you walk on,
Gonna miss the air you breathe.
Im just not quite happy, baby,
bout your crazy plans to leave.

To W. Hohenzollern, on Discontinuing The Conning Tower

William, it was, I think, three years ago--
As I recall, one cool October morning--
(You have The Tribune files; I think they'll show
I gave you warning).

I said, in well-selected words and terse,
In phrases balanced, yet replete with power,
That I should cease to pen the prose and verse
Known as The Tower
That I should stop this Labyrinth of Light--
Though stopping make the planet leaden-hearted--
Unless you stop the well-known Schrecklichkeit
Your nation started.

I printed it in type that you could read;
My paragraphs were thewed, my rhymes were sinewed.
You paid, I judge from what ensued, no heed . . .
The war continued.

And though my lines with fortitude were fraught,
Although my words were strong, and stripped of stuffing,
You, William, thought--oh, yes, you did--you thought
That I was bluffing.

You thought that I would fail to see it through!
You thought that, at the crux of things, I'd cower!
How little, how imperfectly you knew
The Conning Tower!

You'll miss the column at the break of day.
I have no fear that I shall be forgotten.
You'll miss the daily privilege to say:
"That stuff is rotten!"

Or else--as sometimes has occured--when I
Have chanced upon a lucky line to blunder,
You'll miss the precious privilege to cry:
"That bird's a wonder!"

Well, William, when your people cease to strafe,
When you have put an end to all this war stuff,
When all the world is reasonably safe,
I'll write some more stuff.

And when you miss the quip and wanton wile,
And learn you can't endure the Towerless season,
O William, I shall not be petty . . . I'll
Listen to reason.

I miss

I miss the way you say my name
I miss your smile
I miss the way you make me feel
I miss you

I miss the sparkle in your eyes
I miss the love you had for me
I miss having your shoulder to cry on
I miss your arms around me

I miss the way you make me smile
I miss the way you hug me
I miss the way we always met
I miss everything about you

I miss your warmth
I miss the love raidiating from you
I miss the softness of your lips

Miss Me Blind

Miss me
I know youll miss me
I know youll miss me blind
Chorus 1:
I know youll miss me
I know youll miss me
I know youll miss me blind
Bet you got a good gun
Bet you know how
To have some fun
And then
You turn it around on me
Because Im better
Than the rest of the men
Chorus 2:
I say youll miss me
And you always do
I say youll miss me
Now would I lie to you
Now theres no need
To demand
Grab my golden hand
Ill teach you
And youll never be sure
If the way that you need
Is too much like greed
Decide if you are rich or youre poor
(chorus 1)
Bet you make the fool run
Bet you know how
To make it last 4 ever
But you know
Im never really sure
If youre just kissing to be clever
(chorus 2)
Because this love
That I have to give
Must be better than thet kind
It can make you rich
It can make you poor
But I know that
Youll miss me blind
(chorus 1)

Madrigal

(To Miss May Forshall.)

HE shouts amain, he shouts again,
(Her brother, fierce, as bluff King Hal),
"I tell you flat, I shall do that!"
She softly whispers " 'May' for 'shall'!"
He wistful sighed one eventide
(Her friend, that made this Madrigal),
"And shall I kiss you, pretty Miss!"
Smiling she answered " 'May' for 'shall'!"

With eager eyes my reader cries,
"Your friend must be indeed a val-
-uable child, so sweet, so mild!
What do you call her?" "May For shall."

Miss America

You were the apple of the publics eye as you cut the ribbon at the local mall
A mirage for both you and us. how can it be real?
We love your body in that photograph, your home state sure must be proud
The queen of the united states, or have you lost your crown
Well arent you miss america
Dont you miss america
Wont you miss america
Our love
Well are you really who we think you are
Or does your smile seem to wear you down
Is the girl who you once were screaming jump out
And the dream that you must live - a disease for which there is no cure
This roller coaster ride youre on wont stop to let you off
Well arent you miss america
Dont you miss america
Wont you miss america
Our love
Miss america, miss america
Miss america, miss america
Well its true just take a look - the cover sometimes makes the book
And the judges, do they ever ask to read between your lines
In your cage at the human zoo, they all stop to look at you
Next year, what will you do when you have been forgotten
Well arent you miss america
Dont you miss america
Wont you miss america
Our love

Michael

"There's something in your face, Michael, I've seen it all the day;
There's something quare that wasn't there when first ye wint away. . . ."

"It's just the Army life, mother, the drill, the left and right,
That puts the stiffinin' in yer spine and locks yer jaw up tight. . . ."

"There's something in your eyes, Michael, an' how they stare and stare --
You're lookin' at me now, me boy, as if I wasn't there. . . ."

"It's just the things I've seen, mother, the sights that come and come,
A bit o' broken, bloody pulp that used to be a chum. . . ."

"There's something on your heart, Michael, that makes ye wake at night,
And often when I hear ye moan, I trimble in me fright. . . ."

"It's just a man I killed, mother, a mother's son like me;
It seems he's always hauntin' me, he'll never let me be. . . ."

"But maybe he was bad, Michael, maybe it was right
To kill the inimy you hate in fair and honest fight. . . ."

"I did not hate at all, mother; he never did me harm;
I think he was a lad like me, who worked upon a farm. . . ."

"And what's it all about, Michael; why did you have to go,
A quiet, peaceful lad like you, and we were happy so? . . ."

"It's thim that's up above, mother, it's thim that sits an' rules;
We've got to fight the wars they make, it's us as are the fools. . . ."

"And what will be the end, Michael, and what's the use, I say,
Of fightin' if whoever wins it's us that's got to pay? . . ."

"Oh, it will be the end, mother, when lads like him and me,
That sweat to feed the ones above, decide that we'll be free. . . ."

"And when will that day come, Michael, and when will fightin' cease,
And simple folks may till their soil and live and love in peace? . . ."

"It's coming soon and soon, mother, it's nearer every day,
When only men who work and sweat will have a word to say;
When all who earn their honest bread in every land and soil
Will claim the Brotherhood of Man, the Comradeship of Toil;
When we, the Workers, all demand: `What are we fighting for?' . . .
Then, then we'll end that stupid crime, that devil's madness -- War."

Sue In The Stew

In my "Stew" my "Stew of Goo" I will have control over you.
Yes, I will control you with my evil spell,
I will control this doll with named Mel.
I will say things that are not NICE,
you see I took your Power and I control the Dice!
Everything is "neat" in this "Game of Deceit"
This Game where I control everything.
Yes, I took your power that you willfully gave to me,
that was Deal, don't you see? ? ?
Don't tell me you want your Power intact,
You chose me as your mother! !
So I can talk behind your back! !
Now, now, you say "Why would I do that? "
You had to find yourself and get back on track...
See how would you ever know who you really are.
"Why, you think you came into this world complete like Sarah Star? ? ? "
You needed my "Evil" ways to make you strong,
you can thank ME when I am long gone...
Now, now you realize it wasn't about ME,
why it was all about YOU,
Yes you finding You—"YOU in the Stew"

The ABC

'Twas midnight in the schoolroom
And every desk was shut
When suddenly from the alphabet
Was heard a loud "Tut-Tut!"

Said A to B, "I don't like C;
His manners are a lack.
For all I ever see of C
Is a semi-circular back!"

"I disagree," said D to B,
"I've never found C so.
From where I stand he seems to be
An uncompleted O."

C was vexed, "I'm much perplexed,
You criticise my shape.
I'm made like that, to help spell Cat
And Cow and Cool and Cape."

"He's right" said E; said F, "Whoopee!"
Said G, "'Ip, 'Ip, 'ooray!"
"You're dropping me," roared H to G.
"Don't do it please I pray."

"Out of my way," LL said to K.
"I'll make poor I look ILL."
To stop this stunt J stood in front,
And presto! ILL was JILL.

"U know," said V, "that W
Is twice the age of me.
For as a Roman V is five
I'm half as young as he."

X and Y yawned sleepily,
"Look at the time!" they said.
"Let's all get off to beddy byes."
They did, then "Z-z-z."

White Canvas

Stories are painted
In lines on your face
Misunderstandings
And little mistakes
A chance to start over
Is all that it takes
You know if you do
Your life is a canvas
The colors are you
Follow me out
Follow me 'round
Let's make the road up as we go along
Just as we planned
You want to believe it
You know that it's true
Your life is a canvas
The colors are you
You cannot erase them
The words that were said
Just paint them over
Inside of your head
All that is needed
You know you must make
One leap of faith
Everything else will fall into place
Follow me out
Follow me 'round
Let's make it up and go back
To where it began
All that is needed
Is one leap of faith
Everything else will fall into place
Anywhere you'll ever go
Everyone you'll ever know
You may never find it
Everyone you'll ever see
Anyone you choose to be
How you look will decide
How you look will decide what you see
Follow the moon
Follow the sun
Let's make a deal this time
To stay with the plan
All that is needed is one leap of faith
Everything else will fall into place
Everything else will fall into place
Stories are painted
In the lines of your face...

I miss u when a bird flies
I miss u when rain starts toopur toopur
I miss u when I heard leafs mutter
I miss u seeing a purple saree
I miss u seeing a talking eye
I miss u in a pic standing like a queen
I miss u serving a chat for u and me
I miss u in my arms
I miss u in my nights
I miss u when oggy runs after cockroaches
I miss u when bacardi and bear flashes
I miss u in the late night thinking of the old times
I miss u searching for help on new reciepies
I miss u when I see the phone ringing but its not a call of yours

You Say

Its a cold world, its a cruel world
When you havent got no one to love
And all that poison builds up in your heart
Like a cancer killing a dove
You gotta stop that life [turning/turn it] upside down
You gotta find someone to take care of
I say, youre special
No ones ever felt this way
Life is so lonely
When you wont decide to stay
Here comes the [cruel/thrill] man [that/but dont] turn around
Like a spoke turning on the wheel
And it comes and it goes and nobody knows
If its fake or if its for real
When you find someone with a light in their eyes
And your heart you know they will steal
You say, Im special
No ones ever felt this way
Life is so lonely
When you wont decide to stay
And when it comes to the end of day
And you lie sleeping here next to me
I look to you, and [some would say/softly say]:
Am I dreaming or are you really there?
I cant eat, I cant sleep
The face [around a fall/a rounded foe]
You say, Im special
No ones ever felt this way
Life is so lonely
When you wont decide to stay
You say, youre special
No ones ever felt this way
Life is so lonely
When you wont decide to stay

I Miss You

I miss you…
but not the you
that you are now

I miss the you that I used to know
Not the you that’s
Changed somehow

I miss the one,
with the smile
bright as the sun

I miss the you
that could make me feel
As if I were the only one

I miss your leg tight against mine
in the front seat
of my ol' Chevy

I miss the you that I could take to
lonely country roads
down by the levee

The one that I couldn’t
Get out of my car, tho’ I didn’t
Really try too hard anyhow

I miss you…really, really
Miss you…just not the you
That you are now

We Decide Which Is Right

A magical night we spent
Yet others would not so agree
Many would even so condem
But that won't stop you and me
We Decide Which Is Right
How they become so upset
And throw sticks and stones
We're too busy loving it up
Together we're here all alone
We Decide Which Is Right
Let them talk behind our backs
What do they even know
Being here with you my love
And letting our feelings show
We Decide Which Is Right

What Goes Around . . .

In position and out of sight,
hiding until the time was right,
the cat crawled forward with such skill,
the bird could not escape the "kill." It happened almost every day.
The cat would never miss its prey.
So many kills against its name,
it loved to play that "pouncing" game. But then one day, the cat outside,
not chasing birds, no need to hide,
just lying in the grass to rest,
and dreaming of that new found nest. But suddenly, an angry cry,
the sound of many birds nearby.
Like bombers on a bombing run,
they started "swooping" one by one. The battle on, surprise attack,
the cat "pinned down," could not fight back.
The "message" on that battleground,
what goes around does come around.
