Sisyphus

Caissons, the endless march
Wheels of Sisyphus
The ancient serpent writhes
Eminence illusion of anthropology
No movements seem to last
No God on our side
No sectarian temple

We are pulled inward
We await the seventh day

Today the boughs stretch like kings
Bliss transcends all politics
Serene wings of balance
Let them roll their rocks up hills
Glorious blue thrives
Edifice of stars
Hope
Sisyphus is the world

Stone Of Sisyphus *

Tomorrow is teasing me.
Time seems to run away from the future.
But this could be that lucky day.
A dream is make believe until
Blood, sweat, and tears turn pain to will.
It's gonna take some doing for me
To show them the way.
I'm gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I'm gonna roll it back to you.
Building a wall of stone.
Sometimes you know what's right
Sometimes wrong is better than nothing.
They cast a stone so heavy to turn.
I believe in a love so true.
I believe you get what's coming to you.
We get so tired of living a dream
For some other day.
I'm gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I'm gonna roll it back to you.
Wall of stone around the two of us.
That only angels can break through.
Looks like it's another of those long nights.
Will we always be alone?
Let's not stop before it's done.
I'm gonna take the stone of sisyphus
I'm gonna roll it back to you.
I'll take the stone of sisyphus.
Wall of stone round the two of us.
I'm gonna roll it back to you.

Sisyphus My Friend

sisyphus my friend
what rock shall we roll
tonight
on this hilltop?

tell me, what size of rock
fits my size today,
i am big and my shoulders are broad
i have a happy disposition
i am used to all these
burdens and they all seem the same to me
i get used to rolling rocks
and i like them all
they all feel the same to me
you see, my friend,

nothing is heavy now
nothing hurts
nothing is worth thinking
nothing is worth complaining

i like everything
i like all these burdens

everything is a play now
a game
a gimmickry, a role playing, a sham,

and i am so shocked
why they write about us

why they think
we are stupid, dumb, and so unjust

come my friend
let us be as absurd as ever

come my friend
let us be great
let us carve our names in stone

twin sisyphus, the confused,
yet, still so strong...

After The Day's Work Is Done

tired and disappointed
another day's work is unfinished

i look up the sky
seeing dark clouds

i look towards the sea
fading
the sun a glowing disc
falling into the dark line
of the horizon

unfinished business again,
ah, i still have enough reason to live
for another day

sisyphus! sisyphus!
how true can you be
in me...

Carve Away The Stone

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
You can roll that stone
To the top of the hill
Drag your ball and chain
Behind you
You can carry that weight
With an iron will
Or let the pain remain
Behind you
Chip away the stone
(sisyphus)
Chip away the stone
Make the burden lighter
If you must roll that rock alone
You can drive those wheels
To the end of the road
You will still find the past right
Behind you
The weight of the load
Try to put the sins of the past night
Behind you
Carve away the stone
(sisyhpus)
Carve away the stone
Make a graven image
With some features of your own
You call roll the stone
To the top of the hill
You can carry that weight
With an iron will
You can drive those wheels
To the end of the road
You can try to deny
The weight of the load
Roll away the stone
(sisyhpus)
Roll away the stone
If you could just move yours
I could get working on my own

The wheels of time

The wheels of time roll around,
it dosn't stop for anyone
the wheels of time, for me it's almost done.

The wheels of time rolls around,
changes me with age
the wheels of time for my life a new stage

The wheels of time roll around,
life has passed me by
the wheels of time make me want to cry.

The wheels of time roll around
so many changes they bring
the wheels of time, for me going faster than a train.

The wheels of time roll around
another day gone, another day went by,
the wheels of time, changes in my life, I'll apply.

The wheels of time roll around
changes I need to make,
the wheels of time, chances I have to take

The wheels of time roll around
closing in on me,
the wheels of time, finally I'll face it with glee.

Missing those old times

moon
sun stars
clouds
trees
seas lakes
hills

are these all
that you can say?

there are those that
must be given: light, mist, waves,
depths, rolling
green
hanging cottons

we sometimes need to feel
what movements they have
drifting, wavering,
dive, thunder, lightning
softness of blue
softness of silk,
coldness of rain

and then let us move somewhere
into hands holding
our bodies side by side
against the coldness of the
ground and rocks

it is the intimacy that we lack
the sticky wetness
that we have forgotten
the entanglement of
lovely thoughts
the odor of dreams
the sweetness of our tongues
bones and cartilage
cinnamon and vanilla
sauce and pineapples
sugar and salt and the bitterness
of some herbs
all these ingredients
of life
they all make us whole again

not just stars and sun and moon
and sky

it is when we lie on the grass again
to see the maps of stars

That Feeling Of Self-importance

indeed sir you are a figure to watch
as you enter the room
a strange air diffuses from the pores of your skin
perfumed with power and glossy with privileges
the gods of fortune have given you more than what
most of us could have deserved
after all those distasteful years of
sisyphus
how we pulled the stone on top
and how it was rolled over and over again and we
ordinary mortals picked it up
over and over again

we do not laugh at ourselves to our generous endeavors
we all tried to please the gods
yet our offerings are always inferior to yours sir

nature has treated you special and we do not wonder why sir
your name is engraved in marble and the letters are made of gold
your genealogy matters most
your roots they preserved with utmost concern
you descended from kings
you ascended as the rightful king to the throne reserved for you

and so this morning as you enter the room
you slid your finger to us dusts of the cabinet and you signified
we deserved to be blown away just like that

you signaled to the guards
we do not deserve to sit on chairs because the floors are ours

the air is dense and your pride made it humid
i am fed up and i rise from my coyness and decided to leave

i am weary of pretenses. i am tired of my silence.
i have wings. i belong to the birds. And now it is my time to fly away.

in our world of wings, we do not keep air, we give them all away.
we are so light, and we fly to our kind of height. we are always alone.

Four Wheels

Here we come now...
Don't you know that you ain't got
the time to settle down.
You say the road is the only home you know.
Well that may be true and it's up to you
to know what's right or wrong.
You gotta let those four wheels roll.
Let those four wheels roll.
Let 'em roll now.
The only time that you'll feel right
is when you're on the road.
Makin' time is the only thing you know.
Well I hope that you can make it through
this long lonely run.
You gotta let those four wheels roll.
Let those four wheels roll.
Can't you see tomorrow is far, far away?
You know and I know it's a long, long way.
Just keep on rollin' and you'll be there someday.
To run the golden road my friend that's the only way.
Don't you know that you ain't got
the time to settle down.
You say the road is the only home you know.
Well that may be true and it's up to you
to know what's right or wrong.
You gotta let those four wheels roll.
Let those four wheels roll.
Let 'em roll now.
Yeah, oh let those four wheels roll.
Let 'em roll.

Brother Trucker

Breaker number nine big buddy
Put your ears on me now
This trucker got to have a big lie tonight
Come on sucker
Come back brother trucker
I keep seeing double
Unless I close one eye
And Ive got to roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Sure enough a shame bout the shape Im in
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Im back on my wheels again
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Someone to love the truck driving man
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Im back on my wheels again
Im a driving fool
I make my own rules
One part man and one part mule
One part fossil fuel
I got the heart of steel
I pull eighteen wheels
Mister nine to five in his coup de ville
No, never know how it feels
To really roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Holding my own just the best as I can
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Im back on my wheels again
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Outward bound from south bend
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Im back on my wheels again
Moon over new jersey
Big state police
Well, Im in a hurry
Could you let me go in peace
Im an independent
I dont make no teamster dough
cause the a.f.l. and the c.i.o.
Still dont own the road
And the only man telling me where to go
Is the man who owns my load
And he says roll, roll, roll brother trucker
I say where and you say when
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Get back on your wheels again
Turn the goddamn thing around and do it again
Roll, roll, roll brother trucker
Im back on my wheels again
Fat bucket, Im back on my wheels again

Raoul & The Kings Of Spain

When the seventh of the seventh son
Comes along and breaks the chains
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Making it plain, making it sane
To turn this loss into a gain
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Did you know your father was an island
Did you know your mother was the sea
Can we ever hope to seek asylum
From the bounds of fate and family
When the seventh of the seventh son
Comes along and breaks the chains
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Making it plain, making it sane
To turn this loss into a gain
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Did you know all mothers come from heaven
Did you know all fathers come from hell
That is why theyre at sixes and seven
That is why their marriage isnt well
When the seventh of the seventh son
Comes along and breaks the chains
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain
Making it plain, making it sane
To turn this loss into a gain
Raoul, raoul, raoul and the kings of spain

Wheels Of Fire

Born on the other side, of the track
Gotta get outta here, I won't look back
Born on the other side, wild as a hurricane
Living in overdrive...
Wheels of fire, in my soul
Wheels of fire, wheels of fire - let 'em roll
Too fast to give a damn, stand my ground
No one or anything, can tie me down
Born on the other side, wild as a hurricane
Living in overdrive...
Wheels of fire, in my soul
Wheels of fire, wheels of fire - let 'em roll
Ride to live, live to ride
Wheels of fire, forever
[solo]
Born on the other side, wild as a hurricane
Living in overdrive...
Wheels of fire, in my soul
Wheels of fire, wheels of fire - let 'em roll
Wheels of fire
Wheels of fire
...

Easter

Lent gathers up her cloak of sombre shading
In her reluctant hands.
Her beauty heightens, fairest in its fading,
As pensively she stands
Awaiting Easter's benediction falling,
Like silver stars at night,
Before she can obey the summons calling
Her to her upward flight,
Awaiting Easter's wings that she must borrow
Ere she can hope to fly--
Those glorious wings that we shall see to-morrow
Against the far, blue sky.
Has not the purple of her vesture's lining
Brought calm and rest to all?
Has her dark robe had naught of golden shining
Been naught but pleasure's pall?
Who knows? Perhaps when to the world returning
In youth's light joyousness,
We'll wear some rarer jewels we found burning
In Lent's black-bordered dress.
So hand in hand with fitful March she lingers
To beg the crowning grace
Of lifting with her pure and holy fingers
The veil from April's face.
Sweet, rosy April--laughing, sighing, waiting
Until the gateway swings,
And she and Lent can kiss between the grating
Of Easter's tissue wings.
Too brief the bliss--the parting comes with sorrow.
Good-bye dear Lent, good-bye!
We'll watch your fading wings outlined to-morrow
Against the far blue sky.

The Stars Look Down

Like the fly on the wheel, who says,
"What a lot of dust we're raising."
Are you under the illusion
That you're part of this scheme?
Seems like a lifetime ago
You could look with pride
On your world of dreams
What is the meaning of this'?
And the stars look down
What are you trying to do?
And the stars look down
Was it something I said
And the stars look down
Like the rat in a maze who says
"Watch me choose my own direction."
Are you under the illusion
The path is winding your way?
Are you surprised by confusion
When it leads you astray?
Have you lived a lifetime today -
Or do you feel like you just got carried away?
What is the meaning of this?
And the stars look down
What are you trying to do?
And the stars look down
Was it something I said?
And the stars look down
Something you'd like me to do?
And the stars look down

The World Of The Busy Bee

a flight to the petals
of roses
the mission
of the nectar
with codes
of hormones
and grab
and dab
and tab
and gab
of stings on parasol leaves, discharging tangerines and
greens of chlorophyll

orange lights from the sun
in voltages
and gliding
high and low

bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

such is the world
of the bee
as i watch today with screens on my body,

wishing for more honey
the coming days
such is the world of my bee

working bee, Sisyphus
bzzzz,
zzzz

Sisyphean Solace

Eternity is a long time to learn.
Yet Sisyphus was able to adjust
To his punishment. He refused to yearn
For bright tomorrows and knew that he must
Dispel any and all such thoughts of hope.
His salvation was not the morrows but
The moment at hand. Not the highest slope
The boulder could attain, in vain it must
Descend again. But the span of descent
Was his freedom: this brief trek down the hill
Was his only joy before his next ascent
Once more and endless treks as yet fulfilled.
Man through his suffering does find solace
Often long waited yet found anyplace.

The Ancient Hills Of Toora

The ancient hills of Toora are looking brown today
Yet they were lush and rather green when last I passed this way
But that was last September when the nesting birds did sing
And every where looked greener in the early days of Spring.

To those ancient hills of Toora the Seasons come and go
And where once were thousands of gum trees only a few gums grow
And the Aboriginals who lived and hunted on those hills are not around today
Time brings with it great changes and it's always been that way.

The ancient hills of Toora as old as father time
And they were millions of years old when Christ was in his prime
The oldest human on Planet Earth perhaps fifteen years with five score
But the ancient hills of Toora will exist forever more.

The ancient hills of Toora overlooking Toora Town
From the long and warm dry Summer have never looked so brown
But I recall last September decked in their wildering flowers
Those ancient hills of Toora lush and green after Spring showers.
