Illumination 1889

Before: eyes wore sack cloth of black,
turned back from fair temptations' surge,
recoiled, pain wracked, from fate's attack,
saw splurge urge drowned by starcrossed scourge.
Hope unexpected then saw light,
delight which soared beyond all ken
of mice and men, displacing night
then opened door to joy again.
When transformation was complete,
from chrysalid slipped butterfly
antennae test, taste, haste to greet
bolt which bolts leaden could defy.
One moment lost, the next enthralled,
true metamorphosis 'tis called...

Dellius, that car which, night and day,
Lightnings and thunders arm and scourge--
Tumultuous down the Appian Way--
Be slow to urge.

Though reckless Lydia bid thee fly,
And Telephus o'ertaking jeer,
Nay, sit and strongly occupy
The lower gear.

They call, the road consenting, "Haste!"--
Such as delight in dust collected--
Until arrives (I too have raced! )
The unexpected.

What ox not doomed to die alone,
Or inauspicious hound, may bring
Thee 'twixt two kisses to the throne
Of Hades' King,

I cannot tell; the Furies send
No warning ere their bolts arrive.
'Tis best to reach our chosen end
Late but alive.

Cheep Sweep - 20120218

No ducking responsibilities: that's 'for the birds'

First impressions belie transformation facilitating fledgling flights of fancy from stuttering to fair future's fluttering hearts' delight.

Nurtured nesting nestlings' metamorphosis into personnified 'urge to learn' eggs on future generations as red light district restrictions recede, flush thrush rush, readily receive green light for free flight.

In A Small Moment

(carly simon)
In a small moment
She accepted credit for something she did not do
She said shed done the water color in her bedroom
But it was done by a friend from school
Just a little lie
No one would discover
At least not very soon
In a small moment
Just a little lie
When she wasnt looking it just slipped on by
In a small moment
In a restaurant where she worked the late night shift
She short changed a sailor and made five
You could never really call it a theft
Just a little lie
Swept up in her apron and kept as a well deserved gift
In a small moment
Just a little lie
When she wasnt looking it just slipped on by
In a small moment
She cheated on her lover and placed it in the back of her mind
As long as nobody knew the truth about her
It could never really be unkind
Just a little lie
That slipped beside her as she tossed and turned in her alibis
In a small moment
Just a little lie
When she wasnt looking it just slipped on by
Just a little lie
When she wasnt looking it jsut slipped on by
Slipped on by

Butterfly Fly Away

You tucked me in, turned out the light
Kept me safe and sound at night
Little girls depend on things like that

Brushed my teeth and combed my hair
Had to drive me everywhere
You were always there when I looked back

You had to do it all alone
Make a living, make a home
Must have been as hard as it could be

And when I couldn't sleep at night
Scared things wouldn't turn out right
You would hold my hand and sing to me

Caterpillar in the tree
How you wonder who you'll be
Can't go far but you can always dream

Wish you may and wish you might
Don't you worry, hold on tight
I promise you there will come a day
Butterfly fly away

Butterfly fly away, butterfly fly away
Flap your wings now you can't stay
Take those dreams and make them all come true

Butterfly fly away, butterfly fly away
We've been waiting for this day
All along and knowing just what to do
Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly, butterfly fly away

Butterfly fly away
Butterfly fly away

Metamorphosis

I've been so wrapped up in my warm cocoon
But something's happening, things are changing soon
I'm pushing the edge, feeling it crack
And once I get out, there's no turning back
Watching the butterfly go towards the sky
I wonder what I will become
[CHORUS:]
Metamorphosis
Whatever this is
Whatever I'm going through
Come on and give me a kiss
Come on, I insist
I'll be something new
A metamorphosis
Things are different now when I walk by
You start to sweat and you don't know why
It gets me nervous but it makes me calm
To see life all around me moving on
Watching the butterfly go towards the sky
I wonder what I will become
[CHORUS]
[Spoken:]
Every day is a transformation
Every day is a new sensation
Alteration, modification
An incarnation, celebration
Every day is a new equation
Every day is a revelation
Information, Anticipation
Onto another destination
[CHORUS]

Three Mice Who Hoped

Six mice stared out their door.
The Cat was crouching there.
“Have hope! ” one cried.
“The Dog will come and scare it away! ”
But one mouse ran out, gave up.
In the jaws of Cat he died.

Five mice stared out their door.
Still the feline purred.
“Have hope! ” one cried.
”The Dog will be here soon! ”
But one mouse could wait no more.
In the jaws of Cat she died.

Four mice stared out their door.
The Cat was waiting for them, too.
“Have… hope…” one said.
But one mouse snapped and darted out.
And soon, in jaws of Cat, was dead.

Three mice stared out their door.
The Cat sat ready, claws extended.
“Have… h-hope…” one said.
But one mouse squealed and started –
The one who’d spoken held her down.
“Have hope! ”

For hours more the three mice sat.
The watched, trembling, the mighty Cat.
But still: “Have hope! ” they cried.
Then came the Dog.
The Cat scurried away to hide.
The mice were free at last.

Lost is Found

Think! Colour reels night’s shrouds from morning sky.
Metamorphosis opens chrysalid
to imagOnation’s vibration hid
by darkness which itself at last must die.
Soul slumber tuning to the light may fly,
discards discords, hard heeled angst well rid -
unneeded now, unheeded not forbid.
Inklings fountain free and answer “why”,
discover, covers closed, pressed sheets laid by.
Lost is found, as reader’s mind may bid
goodbye to weary fears and tears amid
inspiration freed, - once held back by sigh.
An ‘I’ finds gift of second sight to spread
fair wings which stretch clear spirit, steer ahead...

Mice versus rats

I'm not for spending money or traveling abroad, but when I opened
the drawer, at the bottom of my desk, it was full of tiny mice, nesting
on my check- book, since I hadn't opened for years; they had eaten
my passport too, and a couple of poems I thought were too racy to be
published.22 mice smaller than a baby's thumb confused in the glare
of light the creatures thought my fingers were other mice when I tried
to retrieve my check book- and out of date my passport.

Closed the drawer to the mice's delight, thought it had been a deviation,
got hold of a tin bucket opened the drawer again and put them all in there,
yes, even the babies- there are times in life when one can show no mercy-
my intention was to drown them, but could not, their struggle to climb up
the bucket must be honored. At night I let them free on the sandy lane.
When I opened the drawer next day a big rat sat there, bit my finger it had
stolen my credit card…. Now, how do you explain that to a bank manager?

Butterfly, Butterfly

Butterfly, Butterfly
flew so high.
Butterfly, Butterfly
caught my eye.

Eyes were a glisten,
wings winked in delight.
Sought such a current
so as he could drift
in warm summer's night.

But as the days shorten
he sags in the air.

Gracefully curves
downwards,
until he lies

motionless

so calm and fair.

Toy Soldiers Leaden Eyed - Acrostic Mata Hari

TOY SOLDIERS LEADEN EYED
My life foams fast, spurts sudden surge,
Appraise past fancy, sullen urge,
Then see toy soldiers leaden eyed
Attest failed flight, time, grace denied.
Here at my post I’m posted, tied,
And no-one dares to act as guide.
Right, tight, where Hell’s four streams converge:
I stand and wait... serve on lead’s purge!

Toy Soldiers Leaden Eyed

My life foamed fast, in sudden surge,
All passing fancies, sullen urge, -
The child’s toy soldiers, leaden eyed,
Attest failed flight which Time defied.
Here at my post I’m posted, tied,
And none now dares to be my guide.
Right, tight, where Hell’s four streams converge:
I wait awhile, .............. how lead does purge!

Verses To John Tupper

DEAR Jack
Alack!
A few days back
I bound myself by oath to smack
My lips o'er sloshy tea, and attack
White, brown, or black
Bread, and vile jokes to crack,
This night with brutes whose knack
Would squeeze a pun in Syriac.
And for to—morrow, alack!
I have a model on my track,
So that I may not pack.
Of course I writhe upon the rack:
Though as to NATURE, Jack,
(Poor dear old hack!)
Touching sky, sun, stone, stick, and stack,
I guess I'm half a quack;
For whom ten lines of Browning whack
The whole of the Zodiac.
Nevertheless, alack!
Seeing this time I must send back
To Prince and Baron, Stephens and Jack
(Spec—cadav Rex, hic hæc hoc hac),
And to the Maniac,
The sack.
This much from D.G.R. (in black,
I.e., with coal—ash cloth—of—sack.)

Summers Gone

Crack and break, lifes big mistake,
Im feeling it too, theres no way home.
The summers gone,
The summers gone away.
Back down to earth, a conscience burst,
Im feeling it too, just slipped away.
The summers gone,
The love has gone,
The sun has gone away,
Away
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey...
Just like yesterday,
Its turned to black and white.
Cold as stone, no contact known
Youre feeling it too, as thoughts decay.
The summers gone, the colours gone,
The sun has gone away
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday,
Its turned to black and white.
Oh, youre thinking back, youre going back to places that youve been,
Where days could last forever, but you can only dream,
Oh, were going back Im looking back to places that weve seen,
Moments that have been, places we can dream.
Crash and break, lifes big mistake,
Youre feeling it too, just slipped away.
The love has gone,
The summers gone away.
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday, yesterday
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday, yesterday...

Multicolored Butterfly

There was a multicolored butterfly flying in the air
A multicolored butterfly- who did not have a care.
Going from flower to flower for all the world to see
The beauties of nature made for you and me.
People stopping and talking and gazing upon its wings
This is one of the wonders GOD gave us.
And such a beautiful thing.

This multicolored butterfly flew around my head
I knew if I grabbed it- then soon it would be dead.
They have a life expectancy of seventy two hours you see
And that is the reason it has to be free.

They have a place called butterfly world
In a town called coconut creek
I knew I had to go there
I had to take a peek.

They had butterflies from all over the world
And a quick class to show, all the boys and girls.
There is so much about butterflies that I didn’t know
They can see colors of red, yellow, and green
But nothing in between.
They sip nectars from flowers through their tongues
And smell through their antennae, and taste with
Their feet, and breathe through the sides of their bodies
That in itself is a learning treat.
So to this butterfly that’s flying around my head
I salute and praise your beauty till the moment
That you’re dead.
I will mourn for you for the short time that you lived.
Because in that time, you had so much to give.

Little Broken Butterfly

Little broken butterfly
You can easily fix those wings
All those tears and scars
Can be healed with cloth and strings

Don't be afraid because
All wings grow back anew
It will be no different
Especially for you

Those beautiful colors
You should proudly show
Taking people's eyes to another world
To places they've never known

Aw, little butterfly
Still so scared to fly again
If you don't test those wings
They will wither to no end

Little broken butterfly
Go on now, fly off into the sun
Amaze the people and yourself
Until all is done.

Of locks and thieves! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Am truly enthralled by your heroic epic, Sir Pope
A bit of feedback, take in the right spirit, I hope.
Let me avoid in good faith to be circumspect.
The epic was inspired, I believe by true incident.

‘Belinda’s eyes flashed lightening on rape of lock
Filled with indignation, shrieked with shock’.
Honestly Sir am not here to just condemn or argue
I agree, a lot of fuss is made over trivial issues.

But rape of lock made of tantalising hair
Or one of shiny brass is called theft to be fair.
It’s good to laugh, kiss and (no pun intended) make up.
But Belinda’s woes were overflowing from the cup.

Baron for sure showed lack of breeding and taste
And thus lost his lady love, by acting in haste.
High or low, decency behoves everyone, even gentleman
Or he loses respect of the object of his ardour- woman.

Your craftsmanship undoubtedly drives the point home
By clever and dexterous use of device called hyperbole.
In simple language its called robbery and trespassing.
What if he lost his head at locks so alluring plus inviting.

Your epic has no parallel in all poetry or literature
Its so compelling, none has reached such stature.
‘What evil offence from am’rous causes spring?
What mighty contests rise from trivial things? ’

Turn that frown upside down, I hope.
A bit of decorum eases life, Sir Pope.
Nevertheless, its pointless to have short fuse,
And pick up quarrels and heap abuse.

Dear Mr. Butterfly

As I sit in my thought filled anxiety
I caught a glimpse of that wonderful serenity
Weaving through all the greenery, that was drenched in sunlight
I saw a butterfly mid flight.

No worries, No care, just flying through the air
Just seeming at peace like now my thoughts seem to be,
Oh why, oh why can’t that butterfly be me?
He’s so beautiful, so gracious and free.
Free form the troubles and stresses that life seems to be

Oh dear Mr. Butterfly,
Can you teach me a thing or two?
About how not to worry, be peaceful and true.
Because right at the moment there’s nothing I want more,
Then to close that old door.

Now you see Mr. Butterfly
That I’m in a bit of a rut,
Oh with how much I want to there’s always that but.
That but that always seems to linger about,
It makes me want to scream and shout!

No matter how much I try to defend,
I always seem to make it offend,
But you know what?
I don’t give a stuff!
Yet…there it is again, that but,
That has put me into this rut.

Oh Mr. Butterfly
What can I do? !
It won’t be too long,
But I wont be too soon,
Until all of those worries and stresses are back
And they’ll come hit me with one big SMACK!

Oh what will be next?
They’ll lock me in chains?
Treat me like and animal hidden behind a cage?
NO!
It won’t be that easy to push me back into the scenery.
If you think I won’t fight,
Then you’ve got another thing coming
And I suggest that you should start running,
Because I wont back down!
NO WAY!
NO HOW!

Oh wait Mr. Butterfly
Now wont you come back?
I wanted to thank you for stopping my night turn to black.
Yet even though the sky has gotten darker,
It seems my thoughts have become much lighter.

Thank you Mr. Butterfly
You’re a really good listener,
You’ve made me feel a whole lot blisser.
Now as I head back inside I will say,
Goodbye Mr. Butterfly
One last time.

Art is Long - Hair is Shorter

When artists wore a flowing mane,
Then, in a sentimental vein,
With pastorals they lured the eye,
Or sad, sweet scenes of sea and sky.
But now that hair sprouts from the face
They chuck their paint about the place
And, in the modern manner, seek
To baffle one with the unique.

I've often wondered if this surge
Of hirsute foam denotes some urge
Artistic that controls and sways
The hand and brain to newer ways.
For instance, might we not expect
An artist in dundrearies decked
In other manner to behave
From him who wore a monkey shave?

I've known but one of this quaint throng
Who wore both hair and whiskers long,
But he, poor bloke, was short of cash,
And wore a full beard and moustache
That he might draw on this supply
When price of brushes soared to high ...
But there are ways, it seems to me.
To test my novel theory.

If some brave man would range the land
And catch a few of this quaint band
And hold them captive for a while
Who knows what tricks of school and style
One might evolve if, to each man,
We gave a different hirsute plan?
You doubt, perhaps? But all the same,
There might be money in the game.

Polyacrostic - Changes Expand Beginnings

Vision clears, we’re somehow made aware
A new age dawns as instincts stimulate
Longings that at last hopes liberate.
Underlying focus everywhere
Energizes inner light, to share
Tenderness, emotions, to create
Harmony which may anticipate
Evolution understanding where,
Time time defies. Change may initiate
Insight, vision new, expands to date
Mark end of beginnings, - secondary state -
Extending former frontiers to prepare
Opportunities for future fair.
None need look back, let Fate precipitate
Events, as metamorphosis Hope's gate
Appears to open, expedition rare.
Refuse facility, temptations, free

Take The Black

The moon is full you can not see
There's something in the air
Sound asleep you're into deep
Protecting your own lair
The lion roar into the night
Yet another foe to slay
Who are you that I see right through
The hunter or the pray?
Too late to hear the final warning
No one can defy the reaper
Voices - Twisted
Calling out your name
Voices - Twisted
Calling for you
Ain't no reason for the rhyme
Take the Black - Ready to attack
Take the Black
Face to face you bide your time
Take the Black - Ready to attack
Take the Black
You though you had it all in there
In your little bag of tricks
Insanity won't set you free
As you cross the river Styx
You're out of time your bridges burn
In the undying flame
We'll nail you down to the ground
For you to bear the shame
Too late to hear the final warning
No one can defy the reaper
Voices - Twisted
Calling out your name
Voices - Twisted
Calling for you
Ain't no reason for the rhyme
Take the Black - Ready to attack
Take the Black
Face to face you bide your time
Take the Black - Ready to attack
Voices - Twisted
Calling out your name
Voices - Twisted
Calling for you

Vanquish

July 21,2009 9: 22 pm

It makes you curse, it makes swear
It makes you mad, roar like a bear
It feels hot when you keep it in
But when released, can damage the living

A dog was kicked around his back
Respect had gone, he made an attack
Relentless master shocked with the sting
Everyone is not equal to the law of being

Rush of blood from the pleasant plains
Rise up to the vines of smelting veins
Heartbeats haste with every word
Intent to hurt is against the world

Breathing it in, blowing it out
Expressing the truth can’t bear the shout
Unless compulsions were given a chance
Grudge will remain behind shallow pangs

Out of virtue, comes to rest
Just to overcome temptations’ breath
A sight of the trigger ignites it all
Words of the devil, the ear concludes it all

As the keys were hit, punched are codes
Urge to curse and hurt, born this sort of ode
A deep breath could seal vanquish in
With the help of God, perish is the devil within
