Frond Bond Standing Under, Above and Beyond Understanding - after Bryan Waller Procter Pre-Existence

One dreams beyond the palm-tree fronds tinged pink by sunset which
paints picture pink, inspires to think, on comings, goings, rich
that here inspire the poets lyre to muse on present, past,
on currents' flows, on Natures shows, on shadows all things cast.
One feels at ease amid light breeze beneath palm trees by beach,
sand dunes behind have underlined deep themes that seem to teach
Life journeys on, no soon begun than done, sun story passed
to higher planes - to start again chance karmic dance at last?

One sits beside wide sea to see wee sandy grain once rock
which doubtless stood out centuries would, mighty, lightly mock
sun, wind and rain that Time's reign trained to slowly infiltrate
nooks, chinks and crannies summer heat expanded at a rate
which seemed so slow - years ebb and flow - when measured by the clock
whose hands crept fast as seasons passed relentlessly, tick-tock.

One sits on sand to understand and silently take stock
of passing time which in rhyme's chime stands out and, with a shock,
one asks again how fame, task, gain can matter; what seemed great
is shattered, tattered, blown away one day by ebb tide Fate.
Yet still one thinks at water's brink till suddenly the cock
begins to crow, 'tis time to go, Life's mysteries unlock.

One bends light waves when wonder craves to wander with insight,
enlightened caves, beyond slave graves, to trace ways to unite
hope's stalactite, scope's stalagmite, to fight face values' bait
which ties rope tight round fears found slight, quite groundless, reprobate.
Creative thought, rich caught, to naught to often fades as night
to dawn defers, morn mourns, prefers to dream strange theme, changed bill of rights.

What's safe, what sure, stray waif, secure? All ends in wormwood box.
Bought sinecure, sought cancer cure, fight mortal paradox.
Time's skeins unwind, wane, mind's refrain release finds seeking peace,
few key to tunes which cue to runes foretelling change won't cease.
Our memories freed from mistakes, fake cash greed, crash, boom, bust,
enigmas solve before dissolved, resolve spurned, turned to dust.

One would reach out beyond beach, flout horizons fixed, finite,
beyond restraints where courage faints to find wings for mind's flight
which soar beyond poor petty pond to ponder second state
where cares today may melt away as hope can conjugate
eternity in sandy grain, see beauty shining bright
as time and tide are put aside and never know goodnight.

Time Stonewalling Rhyme

One sits beside the sea to see each sandy grain was rock
which once stood out without a doubt, and proudly thought to block
sun, wind and rain - soon Time would [st]rain and slowly infiltrate
the nooks and crannies summer heat expanded at a rate
which seemed so slow, years ebb and flow, when measured by the clock
whose hands crept fast as seasons passed relentlessly, tick-tock...

One sits on stony s[tr]and at hand, to silently take stock
of passing time which in this rhyme stands out and, with a shock,
one asks oneself how fame or gain can matter for their weight
is blown away within a day by the high tide of Fate.
Withstand, eternity on hand, Time's trials where age could lock
till aeons' end would see change strange blend matter, mind, man mock.

Beneath sun, moon, by dune lagoonn one muses on time-lock,
life's pages turned, millenia burned, churned evolution's croc
to lizard turns, and then returns from down-sized newt to great
Terminonaris - terminus till Nature's genes inflate
all that on earth, in sadness, mirth, fills food chain chockablock:
one can't care, dare, to linger there till new big bang will knock!

Bright Buckets

Bright buckets bulge with sand and shells today,
brimmed by children busily at play,
intent on building, digging time away
upon the beach, sand castles they inlay
with scalloped decorations castaway
by last tide’s currents, scattered anyway
along the tattered margin of the bay.

A tiny grain of sand was yesterday
caught up within the complex interplay
of forces ‘yond our ken which ever weigh
upon the stream of consciousness to sway
more than a moment’s notice in their way
regardless of the influences they
appear to have upon our day to day.

Our meditations led far, far away
to rock formations which Time’s Go games play
until the grain by wind or water spray
from bedrock blown, is worn down, dust or clay,
key silent witness to life’s chaos fray.
What change of scene, and what has been, what may
yet be that grain stands witness to Time’s stay...?

Sandcastles

It was a dark - Foggy day.
When I decided to venture ahoy!
Ahead, onto the beach.
To face its sandy dunes.

So thither, I headed.
Passed via coastal road.
Through bleak shrubberies.
Which masked every approach.

Finally ended, saw my goal.
Those sandy dunes.
Mile, after another - They extend.
Fill me with awe.

So I waded ahead.
Arrived, sat upon a sandy reef.
Alone, for now.
Reminisced of you.

Of love, future we need.

With nothing but my awe.
A seagull, or two.
Sparrows, swift and few.
To keep me company.

Saw - In the distance.
A wall of clouds.
Thunder and Rain!
Storm, it would bring.

Yet avoid me.
I proudly deemed.
My little spot.
Upon the sand.

So I mused.
Decided to use.
This unusual pause.
To my advantage.

Thus I built my castle.
Onto the sand.
Beside the sea.
I built it.

Dug a mighty harbor, beside it.
A breakwater, ramparts to secure it.
To guarantee, my dominion.
Upon the sand.

It had cannon of twigs.
Flagpoles of grass.
With flags and banners.
Made of flowers, I chanced upon.

So it was, stood for an hour.
Then foundered upon the first noon tide.
Its purpose defeated.
By nature's might.

So I built another.
Smarter, I deemed myself.
Placed it higher.
Inland, it seemed.

It rose soon.
Better, mightier - More impressive still.
With banners of leaves.
Garrisoned, by sea-grass tufts.

As soon, as it arose.
It disappeared.
Washed away.
By a sudden burst of rain.

So yet another one, I raised.
With towers tall and strong.
Proud walls - Lights!
Windows, moat and all…

No tide, no rain ever.
Could have washed it away!
But after a minute or two.
It dried - Sand was bleached.

Began dripping away.
One grain, at a time.
Slowly, surely eroded.
By the passing of time.

Sun, each gust of wind.

So it gradually fell.
By the grain.
Until nothing remained.
But mounds in the sand.

So I determined myself.
The wiser, keener.
With experience - Intellect!
Decided to build another one.

A castle again.
Made from tiny little stones….

Grain Of Sand

From every grain of sand
That falls from my hand
Through my fingers to the ground
To utter but not a sound,
For like a Human life
That pasted before my eyes
To be here and then be gone
Forgotten like yesterdays dawn.
For like a grain of sand
The Boy became a Man
Who cries tears of His fate,
For He knows for what Man did,
Is from what Man had made.
Though as being caught up in the air
And being blown to who knows where
For where we go, no man knows
And where we die, is where we lie.
We are all here a lifetime
As though it seems a long time
It is though, but a short time,
To live and love, then die.
Like a grain of sand
That falls upon the beach
To be caught up in the rain or air
And to go where no one can reach,
A Girl becomes a Woman
The Boy becomes a Man
And everyone makes their own fall,
Like a simple, grain of sand.

0332 How were they to know?

Yes, how were they to know,
searching in the heat of forenoon dunes,
those high hills of sand
where once the forests grew,
now a rhythm of burnt sunned, cool shadowed, mock horizons,
- they, searching for the camel which had strayed -

and finding there, a man sitting still, cross-legged
in the sand upon a small strip
of faded coloured carpet,
palm of hand crossed in palm of hand,
and in the palm of his upraised right hand,
one grain of sand

and who, as they approached,
did not shift his gaze from that one grain;
and yet they sensed that he sensed them;
better let him be, he knows what he’s about,
or if he’s mad, at least he’s quietly purposeful…

how were they to know
that as he gazed, the universe he saw
in that one grain of sand then
grew inside of him? till it filled itself,
like a sand-clock, as the last grain
falls from the upper to
the lower, and all is still again
as measured time stops still
amid the sands of time?

how were they to know
as that small figure against the desert sand
his cloak still burning to the touch,
returned to the oasis, as the red-hot sun
sank below the dramatic shadow of the furthest dune,

and later, sitting by the green palms and papyrus reeds,
the camels head down, humped around the welcome pool,
one child, then many children,
then grown men, asked him their questions;
and the answers, as the night folded in
below more stars than anyone could count,
drew the circle of cross-legged silent listeners
- occasionally, urgent voiced with a lifetime’s pressing question -
as if some grain of sand became in their mind too
totality; the universe.

Strange Meeting Ii

Deep down in the depths of forgotten dreams
So far away so long ago it seems
The memory comes of a distant beach
Pale sand stretching far from reach
It was then I found my princess of the sand.
As I traced the foam, peebles beneath my feet
I looked behind, I saw this one so sweet
She came to me and I saw in her eyes
The heavy toll of a thousand eyes
I called her my princess of the sand.
She stared at me and my mind was in a maze
As we moved along in a summer sea-dream haze
She moved her mouth but there came no sound
The message she brought can never be found
But I called her my princess of the sand.
One moment we walked with the night breeze in our face
Then I looked, shed gone. of her presence there was no trace
Where she went or came from who can know
Or if shell ever return to help me know
Who she is, my princess of the sand.
Sometime when the summer nights come back
Ill go back to the sea, follow that sandy track
Ill look around, hope to find
That strange young dream, close behind
Ill call her my princess of the sand.

Automation

Tick tock, tick tock,
computer's clock,
steal lady of the night.
She sits alone while birdies flock
to bid her a goodnight.

Tick tock, tick tock,
computer's clock,
the world's automated
and the lady in a metal cloak
will live alone, unaided.

Tick tock, tick tock,
computer's clock,
her hard drive stirs again
and while I type this poem,
so dies my mighty pen.

Tick tock, tick tock,
computer's clock,
so true, so true the fear
that life as we once knew it
has slowly disappeared.

Tick tock, tick tock,
computer's clock
we victims of our time.
The last bird flies above us
while all of nature dies.

Providential Piece

Song of my soul, soul of song,
long to belong to true beau,
strong where most, weak, string along,
short to wrong conquer and, oh!

Hope for new scope, scope for hope,
never a bye line to toe,
rope with no strings, wings which cope
with winds of change strange, far range, so
dawn of my dawn she became,
fame of shared flame through time's flow,
drawn thorn as newborn glows game's aim,
name of my name who'll rhymes sow.

Bride to abide through the years,
tears clears, cheers as fearful fears go,
far and wide side by side soon appears
for hope nears when heart steers Cupid's bow.

Light of my light shines fair muse
whose views offer cues to bestow
bright blessings no wight could confuse,
clues choose to ignore or loose, glow
fires faith which aspires through tuned lyre
to translate runes ballooning to show
desires which inspire more desire,
enthuse, offer boon zephyr blow.

Waft of my weave I believe
receiving achieves to and fro
unsparing free sharing, two cleave
to each other, discover plateau
untouched and unsmutched for none grieve,
minds leave much behind more to know,
much more as two cores interleave
than first found as obbligato.

Flight through insight to delight
metamorphosis few undergo,
bright star once afar turning night
into day which all pray apropos.

HEART which HE ARTfully writes,
SHE ALl HEALS to unseal joy's chateau,
rite rightfully cited incites
an urge to merge, surge, long ago
foreseen to be queen, reconcile
surface smile with sacred undertow,
rile, bile, soothing to guileless beguile
while sentiments soft overflow.

Find mind behind features sublime
refusing narrow status quo
refusing to mime p[h]antomime,
all acknowledge respect none forego.

Links my pen inks trace their source,
course, and force, as above and below
in story on[e] glory discourse,
never coarse, no remorse ever know.
Dawn of my dawn she'll remain,
never wane, prove joys vain - sun and snow
come and go, she alone, once again
it is plain, easing pain, wards off woe.

Providential piece could reel out
more praise to the envy of time,
but you, reader, must out and about,
go in peace, we'll release you from rhyme.

Dark the shadows haunt the night

If I began to cry
The tears would never end
If I lowered my guard
Then how could I defend?

From every side the walls close in
And there is no place that you could stand
That would hide you from this world
And all that it demands

Whoever said that life was fair
Has not lived long enough
When the path takes you along the edge
You'll see them fall off the bluff

But the problem is
If your guard is high
You will wither away
And begin to die

How could something so small
Cast such a shadow on the land?
How was it that it stood so tall
Yet it was just a grain of sand?

I made my way through this world
With the Sun forever at my back
And the shadows went before me
And the shadow it was black

One grain of sand in my eye
Tormented me for many years
And I could never hope to fly
For I was blinded by my fears

Then Jesus came and turned me round
To face the rising Sun
His light it shone upon my face
And my journey had begun

When you walk into the Son
The shadows fall behind
The Sun removes the grain of sand
Now you're no longer blind

Who is your grain of sand my child
That made you stumble, made you fall?
In the light of Christ perhaps you'll find
That persons not so very tall

Dark the shadows haunt the night
That cause you to run and hide
Look to the Son that shines so bright
And He will shine that light inside

O to be filled with the light of Christ
And see the shadows disappear
To lift my eyes to heavens heights
And finally to shed a tear

Hampton Beach

THE SUNLIGHT glitters keen and bright,
Where, miles away,
Lies stretching to my dazzled sight
A luminous belt, a misty light,
Beyond the dark pine bluffs and wastes of sandy gray.
The tremulous shadow of the Sea!
Against its ground
Of silvery light, rock, hill, and tree,
Still as a picture, clear and free,
With varying outline mark the coast for miles around.

On—on—we tread with loose-flung rein
Our seaward way,
Through dark-green fields and blossoming grain,
Where the wild brier-rose skirts the lane,
And bends above our heads the flowering locust spray.

Ha! like a kind hand on my brow
Comes this fresh breeze,
Cooling its dull and feverish glow,
While through my being seems to flow
The breath of a new life, the healing of the seas!

Now rest we, where this grassy mound
His feet hath set
In the great waters, which have bound
His granite ankles greenly round
With long and tangled moss, and weeds with cool spray wet.

Good-by to Pain and Care! I take
Mine ease to-day
Here where these sunny waters break,
And ripples this keen breeze, I shake
All burdens from the heart, all weary thoughts away.

I draw a freer breath, I seem
Like all I see—
Waves in the sun—the white-winged gleam—
Of sea-birds in the slanting beam—
And far-off sails which flit before the south-wind free.

So when Time’s veil shall fall asunder,
The soul may know
No fearful change, nor sudden wonder,
Nor sink the weight of mystery under,
But with the upward rise, and with the vastness grow.

And all we shrink from now may seem
No new revealing;
Familiar as our childhood’s stream,
Or pleasant memory of a dream
The loved and cherished Past upon the new life stealing.

Serene and mild the untried light
May have its dawning;
And, as in summer’s northern night
The evening and the dawn unite,
The sunset hues of Time blend with the soul’s new morning.

I sit alone; in foam and spray
Wave after wave
Breaks on the rocks which, stern and gray,
Shoulder the broken tide away,
Or murmurs hoarse and strong through mossy cleft and cave.

What heed I of the dusty land
And noisy town?
I see the mighty deep expand
From its white line of glimmering sand
To where the blue of heaven on bluer waves shuts down!

In listless quietude of mind,
I yield to all
The change of cloud and wave and wind
And passive on the flood reclined,
I wander with the waves, and with them rise and fall.

But look, thou dreamer!—wave and shore
In shadow lie;
The night-wind warns me back once more
To where, my native hill-tops o’er,
Bends like an arch of fire the glowing sunset sky.

So then, beach, bluff, and wave, farewell!
I bear with me
No token stone nor glittering shell,
But long and oft shall Memory tell
Of this brief thoughtful hour of musing by the Sea.

Melting Pot in Melting Point: A Test Taste after Wanda Lea Brayton

Wing with me through sunrise sweet,
to shed cocoons and spread the sky
with wonder which the dark’s defeat
soon celebrates, to answer why,
puts fears at rest, - no wish deny.

Surprise, where eyes together meet,
melts walls, as none need quantify
new hope no cyclone gust could cheat.
Due cycle, spin, win trust, supply
true scope both Time and Tide defy

Soul in soul can thus complete
its mission~fission and ally
heart once apart from heart to greet
with fresh~baked bread and apple pie
from typhoons, twisters, home and dry.

May mind in mind forever share
discoveries as fresh breeze brings
new hope tonight, to melt despair,
pours joy on troubled waters, sings
horizons fair where no storm swings.

Ripples, small at first, spread where
hope’s atmosphere springs spry, hurt’s stings
are eased to forecast future fair
no need to feed on fear, pull strings
attached to taut strings tied to ‘things’:

Emotions, countless, count, repair
at last the past as fast light’s rings
can interact, new Act prepare,
each scene of which the changes rings,
unseen may stitch enheartenings.

Jingle gently, sweet refrain
of dance inscribed in Book of Fate
where heartache neither know again, -
seed Love none need to counterfeit
feed Love which will not dissipate.

Mingle gently, naught retain,
as aspirations shared translate
dreams into interplay on plane
above tides’ ebb and wane debate,
above all bonds of weight and wait.

Single goes against the grain.
To fuse, refusing solid state,
momentum, mustered, must maintain,
to sow, to grow, to flow, create,
enlightenment anticipate.

Reach me, teach me Life, my Dear,
fears, needs dissolved, cares melts away, -
with each in each, tears disappear,
in time, in rhyme, as interplay
emotions felt in tune may play.

Expand awareness, shed false fear
suppressed emotions melt, - life may
entertain a change of gear
which freedom fosters making hay
while shared sun shines, holds clouds at bay.

Open up as inner ear
taps harmony where once dismay
depressed, entrapped, each hemisphere,
where doubt within, without, would sway
impressions, blinkered insight clear...

Romantic Rhyme

Sing to me of sweet sunrise
fresh~baked bread & apple pies
There is a sonnet in your eyes
my Heart melts, 'tis no surprise

Whisper soft the things you know
all the places that we will go
how your affection you'll always show
that you'll plant flowers all in a row

Murmur gently your sweet refrain
of how we'll dance wildly in the rain
that you'll never try to cause me pain
& that your Love you'll never feign

Speak to me of Life so dear
that I shall have no need to fear
& how you'll wipe away my tears,
for we shall share the passing years

A Matter Of Perspective

Light reflections colour sunset, casting
enchanting shimmer shadows, night cap light.
Light darkling sprays now, now strays out of sight,
elusive dance advancing, fast contrasting,
leaves measured time behind, mocks tight forecasting.
Tints overprint imagination bright
as Nature's way of reaching through insight,
attracts within a vortex spin outlasting
leisure looks, taps latent springs, sees past's sting
engulfed in night-tide swing swirl, sings delight.
No frontiers stand between joy's tears, soul's flight,
and wonder as sight spans light - all surpassing.
Let life through stillness still more life gestate,
anon fey pattern weave paints second state...

Fight Against The Tide

When the doubts you have begin to show
When the winds of change begin to blow your dream away
As the winter cold can touch the bone
And like a crowd, voices in your mind
But as the thunder dies, youre standing on your own
Even in your darkest night
When the shadows hide the guiding light that leads the way alone
And heaven seems to turn its head
Sometimes, to break away the ties
You have to find the strength to carry on
Fight against the tide
To cut the hardest stone
Fight against the tide
The blood begins to flow
Hold on, through the storm could take your life
Be strong and you will survive
You wont give in
Even though the walls around you fall
No dont give in
Still the flames alive
till the end of time
And so you fight against the tide
When the doubts you have begin to show
When the winds of change begin to blow your dream away
When the fire has left your soul
Look straight ahead
In the face of fear
Take on the world and all it has to give
Fight against the tide
To cut the hardest stone
Fight against the tide
The blood begins to flow
Hold on, through the storm could take your life
Be strong and you will survive

Dreams upon the Horizon

I don’t get any time to call my own,
I don’t get any peace so far from home
And I know I won't find my pleasure seeking
Hidden treasures in the nightmares of this town.
Dreams upon the horizon lie out of reach for a while
As I sit back with a smile, blazing away the days up in smoke.
Let the tokers joke, let them try and catch the breeze for
It’s not as easy as they’d have you believe

Here I am trying to conceive some shattered
Form of reality when it makes no sense to me

Peering into the distance growing between our forms,
Into the eye of the solar eagle I find myself
Down on my knees before you now
And Still your turning me away

Ride a wave of passion until you crash upon the shore,
What more could you ask for
Than eternal bliss?
Then you’ve got to ask yourself
Would you miss the blues?
Would you be able to see it though with nothing to compare your happiness to?

What is there that lies beyond our reach high up in the skies?
Bloodshot eyes keep me hiding from the dawn,
The light of day can ease my troubles, take away the pain with the morning due
As I watch the rain dance upon the pavement.

You look at me, I look at you,
Tomorrow never knows
What dreams lay unwoven, untold,
Let the page turn, the story unfold

Come let’s get together
One more time to see it though
Another way to blue and back again
Before the rain can reflect the rainbow lost in an instant

Always passing on by the days wishing away the hours
You’ll have no one to blame when the final grain has rested in its place

Will you hold on to faith as the void beckons you to burning point?

Suppress the memories that keep you sane
Unleash the daemon, tear away the veil draped upon this reality of yours

Into nightshade, shadows play
As angels dance the streets by day.

Over and over I’ve ran it though in my mind
The answers so hard to find when the question lies unset

What meaning is there to be found,
If not appreciation of the will to question
An eternity in leads and bounds?

Build me up to break me down
Around around, the tearful clown
With worries left in the shadows
As I stride into the light of day

If only to find a new way to say I love you.

Allow me the time to reinvent the ways to blue and back again
To see it all go round in again in circles for all time

An eternity in leads and bounds
Here I lie broken, unfound, sound of mind yet succumbing to numbness,
At peace with faith, as dreams tear vivid passageways into the blanket of the starry sky.

The midnight hour approaches as I
Throw caution to the wind and dance the night away,
Up in smoke with nothing to say
Maybe I’ve been smoking too long.

Maybe not long enough.

Rule of Free Rhyme

Rhyme echoes time as creativity
Unreels threads which sense and rich feelings skein,
Lends to life’s scheme light beam which bends prose plain,
Extracts its pith with sensitivity,
Outreaching limits, spurning gravity, -
Finding behind mind’s veil tone, scale, refrain.
Fools find form forced, restricting fancy’s reign,
Repressed, or lacking sense acuity.
Emotions may be stressed with clarity
Expressive through rhyme time and time again,
Revealing style while from the chaff the grain
Has space to trace with receptivity
Youth’s aspirations, age’s fears, and more, -
MEanings multivalent, truth may store.

Hour Glass

I sit and stare
Watching as every grain falls away
I sit and stare
Asking what's there to life with every falling grain
I sit and stare
Asking what secrets lie within these sands of time
I sit, but this time I wonder
if the next falling grain brings hope to life

Clock's ticking, I sit back to relax
Sands falling, I clear my mind to hear my heart
Every minute passes me by, it's a moment to ponder
Reflections on my actions, the consequences that will seek to haunt me
But what good is this if I sit here another day
Ephemera it may be but life wasted if I regret my steps
watching as life ticks and trickles away from the grasp of man
I wish to see another day
So I sit and ask
if the next falling grain brings hope to life

I take a moment to sigh, so let my breath whisper my weakness
Tired from the daily routine of life
A hopeless endeavor lived for self
Ambition they say but what good is it if led by greed
if primary becomes secondary and secondary becomes primary
roofing replaces foundation and pillars become ruins
because surely chaos will pay you a visit
hence I know not a building of such design that stands the test of life
so I'll sit and ask
if the next falling grain brings hope to life

I'v been sitting in this chair for far too long
Least to say, my mind feels a little bit too far gone
Seeking for answers before the end of time
For when time ends judgment awaits
Will memories be our tombstones or will they be our well built thrones we'll one day sit on
Seek ye first what lies in the kingdom above
Let the gifts be secondary , let foundation be the basis
So u may sit and know
That the next falling grain brings hope to life

Recalculation

Place and Time no meaning may retain
As Time and space skeins melt down, disappear,
Sounds, colours, perfumes magic merge, as here
Calculations fail, all trammels vain.
A new day dawns, whose joys shall e’er remain.
Lightning fast love came, must last a mere
Eternity or two, to cleanse, make clear.
Patterns fit, hope’s picture fills life’s train
Advances, puzzle pieces finds, can gain
Some insight into mysteries to steer
Consciousness through dreams till dreams appear
As true to life as life whose sun won’t wane.
Look, thus, no further for those answers which
Each seeks to weave life’s blessings, joys to stitch.

There once was a limpet puffed with pride
Who said to the ribald sea:
"It isn't I who cling to the rock,
It's the rock that clings to me;
It's the silly old rock who hugs me tight,
Because he loves me so;
And though I struggle with all my might,
He will not let me go."

Then said the sea, who hates the rock
That defies him night and day:
"You want to be free - well, leave it to me,
I'll help you get away.
I know such a beautiful silver beach,
Where blissfully you may bide;
Shove off to-night when the moon is bright,
And I'll swig you thee on my tide."

"I'd like to go," said the limpet low,
"But what's a silver beach?"
"It's sand," said the sea, "bright baby rock,
And you shall be lord of each."
"Righto!" said the limpet; "Life allures,
And a rover I would be."
So greatly bold she slacked her hold
And launched on the laughing sea.

But when she got to the gelid deep
Where the waters swish and swing,
She began to know with a sense of woe
That a limpet's lot is to cling.
but she couldn't cling to a jelly fish,
Or clutch at a wastrel weed,
So she raised a cry as the waves went by,
but the waves refused to heed.

Then when she came to the glaucous deep
Where the congers coil and leer,
The flesh in her shell began to creep,
And she shrank in utter fear.
It was good to reach that silver beach,
That gleamed in the morning light,
Where a shining band of the silver sand
Looked up with with a welcome bright.

Looked up with a smile that was full of guile,
Called up through the crystal blue:
"Each one of us is a baby rock,
And we want to cling to you."
Then the heart of the limpet leaped with joy,
For she hated the waters wide;
So down she sank to the sandy bank
That clung to her under-side.

That clung so close she couldn't breath,
So fierce she fought to be free;
But the silver sand couldn't understand,
While above her laughed the sea.
Then to each wave that wimpled past
She cried in her woe and pain:
"Oh take me back, let me rivet fast
To my steadfast rock again."

She cried till she roused a taxi-crab
Who gladly gave her a ride;
But I grieve to say in his crabby way
He insisted she sit inside. . . .
So if of the limpet breed ye be,
Beware life's brutal shock;
Don't take the chance of the changing sea,
But - cling like hell to your rock.

Inevitable for M 'lady Mary Gordley

The rugged rocks although they try
cannot prevent, merely delay.
The flowing stream which will pass by
and in so doing wear away.

The rocks which try to stem the flow
and slowly grind them down to sand.
This is the secret rivers know
theirs is the task to change the land

Although the rugged rocks maintain.
That they will keep their pride of place.
The water moves them grain by grain
until there’s very little trace.

They may endure for centuries
but water flows eternally.
The rocks succumb eventually
and leave the river flowing free.

Time also like a river flows
and wears away the lives of men
Though to what end and what purpose.
Men question time and time again.

There are some things we may not know
and that is why there’s no reply.
We only know it must be so
that in due course all men must die.

An Eternity In Leaps And Bounds

Profanities, obscenities, with insanity beckoning us in the night
I don’t get any time to call my own,
I Don’t get any peace so far from home
And I've got a feeling I won’t get find any pleasure
Seeking hidden treasures
In the nightmares of this town.

Dreams upon the horizon lie out of reach for a while
Sit back with a smile, blaze away the days. Up in smoke
Let the tokers joke, let them try and catch the breeze,
It’s not as easy as they’d have you believe.

Trying to conceive some shattered form of reality,
It makes no sense to me.

Peering into the distance growing between our forms,
Into the eye of the sun
And down on my knees before you now
Your turning me away.

Ride a wave of passion until you crash upon the shore
What more could you ask for
Than eternal bliss
This you’ve got to ask yourself
Would you miss the blues
Would you be able to see it though with nothing to compare your happiness to?

What is there that lays beyond our reach,
High up in the skies?
Pondering as bloodshot eyes keep me hiding from the dawn,
The light of day can ease my troubles; take away the pain by morning due,
As we watch the rain dance upon the pavement

You look at me, I look at you
Tomorrow never knows
What dreams lay unwoven, untold.

Let the page turn, the story unfold.

Come let’s get together, one more time to see it though.
Another way to blue and back again for you my friend.
Before the rain can reflect the rainbow lost in an instant.
As we find ourselves passing on by the days wishing away the hours,
You’ll have no one to blame when the final grain has rested in its place
Or so they say just never to my face.

Will you hold on to faith as the void beckons you to burning point?

Suppress the memories that keep you sane
Unleash the daemon; tear away this veil draped upon this reality of yours

Into nightshade, shadows play
As angels dance the streets by day

Over and over I’ve ran it though in my mind,
The answers so hard to find when the question lies unset.

What meaning is there to be found, if not appreciation of the will to question.

An Eternity in leaps and bounds.
A future lay ungrounded as unfounded visions
Of a reality surreal peel,
Build me up to break me down.
Around around the tearful clown turns
With worries left in the shadows,
As we stride into the light of day

If only to find a new way to say I love you.

Reinvent the ways to blue and back again
To see it all go round in again in circles for all time

An eternity in leaps and bounds
Here I lay broken, unfound, sound of mind, succumbed to numbness,
At peace with faith as dreams tear vivid passageways into the blanket of the starry sky.

The midnight hour approaches,
Throw caution to the wind and dance the night away.

Up in smoke with nothing to say,
Maybe I’ve been smoking too long
Reinvent the ways to blue and back again
To see it all go round in again in circles for all time
It won’t be long, enjoy the ride, smile and realize
You can’t push back the tides in your stride.
