Come Live with Me and Be My Love Parody IV Resumé Christopher MARLOWE

Marlowe’s swain bestows caresses
And promises on shepherdesses.
Clasps of amber, young lambs’ fleeces,
gay gloss of gold, once told, impresses.
Pretty lass her love professes
‘til he his poverty confesses.

Herrick carelessly expresses
the surest secrets and successes
of courtship and polite addresses
with damsels in diaph’nous dresses.
He feeds them filberts, kids’ tongues, cresses,
in silver streams they steep fair tresses.

Compare these themes to Cecil Lewis,
‘side sour canals his soul digresses, -
chance employment’s dour duresses,
the docks’ dark entries and egresses.
Come care, wreathed wrinkles, deep distresses,
work wasting woman’s lovelinesses.

Sir Walter’s earnest warning is
As good as any other guesses.
Barren lords and Baronesses
slumber soon in tombed recesses.
As Time arrests vain pride, prowesses,
the moral is: mistrust mistresses!

Translation of Ancient Epigrams

From Latin, Greek, to English presses,
‘tis rare that e’er the pith impresses.
Th’original oft effervesces
with sparkle, spite, delight, mistresses,
Spartan prowess, Roman fortresses,
maids like Mycilla, bought braids, tresses.
Who, living, the true jest possesses,
is past: - and all the rest is guesses.
Most amateur attempts are messes,
betray the sense, so each depresses.
Stray copies seldom seem successes,
translation tritely turned distresses,
and everybody who professes
ability thereat the less is!

The Passionate Shepherd to his Love

Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields.
And we will sit upon rocks,
Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant poises,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pull;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold;

A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs;
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me, and be my love.

The shepherds's swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.

Shes A Woman

(coverdale/marsden)
She got everything I need,
She makes me smile, she makes me bleed
cos shes a woman
She got the end, she got the means,
Shes in my heart and in my dreams
An it makes me cry I wanna make her mine
She aint black, but, she got soul,
She aint young, she aint old,
She shine like silver, burn like gold
cos shes a woman, shes a woman
She got everything I need,
She got comfort, she got speed
Shes a woman, shes a woman
She do me bad, she do me good,
She got the gypsy in her blood
Cos shes a woman, shes a woman
She aint black, but, she got soul,
She aint young, she aint old,
Shine like silver, burn like gold
Shes a woman, shes a woman
She got a fire in her eyes,
I know she sees through all my lies,
cos shes a woman, shes a woman
I know Im the danger zone
If I leave her all alone
cos shes a woman, shes a woman
She aint black, but, she got soul,
She aint young, she aint old,
Shine like silver, burn like gold
Shes a woman, woman,
Shes a woman, shes a woman
Shes a woman, woman,
Shes a woman
She got everything I need,
She make me smile, she make me bleed
Shes a woman, shes a woman
She got the end, she got the means,
She, make me shiver in my jeans
cos shes a woman, shes a woman
She aint black, but, she got soul,
She aint young, she aint old
She shine like silver, burn like gold
cos shes a woman, shes a woman
Shes a woman...

Black And Blue

You never call me, babe,
Until your man is gone,
I know it's you
When I pick up the
telephone.
You ask me how I am
And if I'm doing well,
When all you want from
me
Is just to ring your bell.
Take your time, we can
do some lines,
'Cos it's alright.
We can feel fine drinking
midnight wine,
'Cos it's alright.
Black and blue, black
and blue,
I said come over here,
baby,
And love me till I'm
black and blue.
You got the key to love
Dressed in your innocent
smile,
You know you touched
me baby,
So won't you stay for a
while.
And take your time, we
can do some lines,
'Cos it's alright.
We can feel fine drinking
midnight wine,
'Cos it's alright.
Black and blue, black
and blue,
I said come over here,
baby,
And love me till I'm
black and blue.
Black and blue, black

I said come over here,
baby,
And love me till I'm

Wasting My Time

You think you got it all figured out and wrapped up
Driving in your little red car
You could drive all night around the city
But you won't get far

There's something there on the edge of your mirror
Something you've been hiding for years
If you take a chance if you just take a look
Maybe I can handle your fears

I'm tired of waking up shaking in the dark
Making up what you're gonna do
You can keep your pride you can keep your distance
I never wanted to get that from you
I've had enough of a tough situation
Driving me out of my mind
You can keep your pride and you can keep your distance
I'm only wasting my time

Give me one good reason I should keep it up
You've got so many to spare
You keep it hot but you keep it so we're driving
It just ain't fair

You've got the jam down fired up emotions
I've got the three alarm blues
I can't get to you and you won't come to me
What would you suggest that I do

I'm tired of waking up shaking in the dark
Making up what you're gonna do
You can keep your pride you can keep your distance
I never wanted to get that from you
I've had enough of a tough situation
Driving me out of my mind
You can keep your pride and you can keep your distance
I'm only wasting my time

Half passed three I haven't got a clue
I spent the whole night just burning for you

I'm tired of waking up shaking in the dark
Making up what you're gonna do
You can keep your pride you can keep your distance
I never wanted toget that from you
I've had enough of a tough situation
Driving me out of my mind
Oh you can keep your pride you can keep your distance
I'm only wasting my time
Oh baby
You can keep your pride you can keep your distance
I'm only wasting my time

Nod

Softly along the road of evening,
In a twilight dim with rose,
Wrinkled with age, and drenched with dew
Old Nod, the shepherd, goes.

His drowsy flock streams on before him,
Their fleeces charged with gold,
To where the sun's last beam leans low
On Nod the shepherd's fold.

The hedge is quick and green with briar,
From their sand the conies creep;
And all the birds that fly in heaven
Flock singing home to sleep.

His lambs outnumber a noon's roses,
Yet, when night's shadows fall,
His blind old sheep-dog, Slumber-soon,
Misses not one of all.

His are the quiet steeps of dreamland,
The waters of no-more-pain,
His ram's bell rings 'neath an arch of stars,
'Rest, rest, and rest again.'

Silver And Gold

Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Ev'ryone wishes for silver and gold
How do you measure its worth?
Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth.
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Mean so much more when I see
Silver and gold decorations
On ev'ry Christmas tree.
Silver, silver and gold
Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Wise men brought gifts to the mange I'm told
Mary was humble to see
Shepherds and kings there on bended knees
It's silver and gold, silver and gold
Feeling the world with their lives
Silver and gold how they shimmer on ev'ry Christmas night
On ev'ry Christmas night
Silver, silver and gold

Horace to Pyrrha

What perfumed, posie-dizened sirrah,
With smiles for diet,
Clasps you, O fair but faithless Pyrrha,
On the quiet?
For whom do you bind up your tresses,
As spun-gold yellow,--
Meshes that go, with your caresses,
To snare a fellow?

How will he rail at fate capricious,
And curse you duly!
Yet now he deems your wiles delicious,
You perfect, truly!
Pyrrha, your love's a treacherous ocean;
He'll soon fall in there!
Then shall I gloat on his commotion,
For I have been there!

And God Created Woman

In a deep sleep I fell
And the music starts 2 swell
One of my ribs he took and it shall be
Bone of my bones (bone of my bones)
And God created woman
And we were naked and did not care
Theres a time 2 take and a time 2 share
2 in love, all around and all aware
Flesh of my flesh (flesh of my flesh)
And God created woman
Temptation sweet and so much (sweet and so much)
Surely die if neither one of us shall ye touch (shall ye touch)
Then again we could die from the rush (rush)
Heart of my heart (heart of my heart)
And God created woman (woman)
Woman
My-my-my-my-my-my woman
In my darkest hour I find
Many serpents who have lied (lied)
Given half the chance still Id run 2 your side (run 2 your side)
Love of my love (love of my love)
And God created woman (woman)
And if I never see u again
Its alright 4 I am guilty of no sin
They can have u, Ill have your love in the end
Soul of my soul (soul of my soul)
And God created woman
(God created woman)
(God created woman) (woman)
Flesh of my flesh
(God created woman) (soul)
(God created, God created woman)

My Pretty One

Well, I've dreamed about today.
The same dream in many ways.
But I never thought I'd be here,
Be here with you, my pretty one.
Well, I've searched the whole world through.
To find someone whoooo,
Would make this dream come true.
It's you and only you, my pretty one.
Pretty one, I long to hold you.
Through the night, I want to hold you.
Pretty one, has no one told you,
I love you.
Any day and you will find me,
Full of joy when you're beside me.
In a moment like this,
Could it be what I've missed all my life.
Well, I've dreamed about today.
The same dream in sooooo many ways.
But nothing can compare with,
Compare with you, my pretty one.
Well, I love your smile.
And I love your eyes.
And the way you talk, makes me feel so nice.
Nothing can compare with the way you are.
And I need you now, as I write this song.
Did I hear you say you're the only woman,
From a lonely prayer I am in the air.
Well, I've dreamed about today.
The same dream in sooooo many ways.
But nothing can compare with,
Compare with you my pretty one.
But I never thought I'd be here,
Be here with you my pretty one.
Pretty one, I long to hold you.
Through the night, I want to hold you.
Pretty one has no one told you,
I love you.
Any day and you will find me,
Full of joy when you're beside me.
In a moment like this,
Could it be what I've missed all my life.
Well, I've dreamed about today.
The same dream in sooooo many ways.
But nothing can compare with,
Compare with you my pretty one.
No nothing can compare with,
Compare with you my pretty one.

Astrophel's Song Of Phyllida And Corydon

Fair in a morn (O fairest morn!),
Was never morn so fair,
There shone a sun, though not the sun
That shineth in the air.
For the earth, and from the earth,
(Was never such a creature!)
Did come this face (was never face
That carried such a feature).
Upon a hill (O blessèd hill!
Was never hill so blessèd),
There stood a man (was never man
For woman so distressed):
This man beheld a heavenly view,
Which did such virtue give
As clears the blind, and helps the lame,
And makes the dead man live.
This man had hap (O happy man!
More happy none than he);
For he had hap to see the hap
That none had hap to see.
This silly swain (and silly swains
Are men of meanest grace):
Had yet the grace (O gracious gift!)
To hap on such a face.
He pity cried, and pity came
And pitied so his pain,
As dying would not let him die
But gave him life again.
For joy whereof he made such mirth
As all the woods did ring;
And Pan with all his swains came forth
To hear the shepherd sing;
But such a song sung never was,
Nor shall be sung again,
Of Phyllida the shepherds' queen,
And Corydon the swain.
Fair Phyllis is the shepherds' queen,
(Was never such a queen as she,)
And Corydon her only swain
(Was never such a swain as he):
Fair Phyllis hath the fairest face
That ever eye did yet behold,
And Corydon the constant'st faith
That ever yet kept flock in fold;
Sweet Phyllis is the sweetest sweet
That ever yet the earth did yield,
And Corydon the kindest swain
That ever yet kept lambs in field.
Sweet Philomel is Phyllis' bird,
Though Corydon be he that caught her,
And Corydon doth hear her sing,
Though Phyllida be she that taught her:
Poor Corydon doth keep the fields
Though Phyllida be she that owes them,
And Phyllida doth walk the meads,
Though Corydon be he that mows them:
The little lambs are Phyllis' love,
Though Corydon is he that feeds them,
The gardens fair are Phyllis' ground,
Though Corydon is he that weeds them.
Since then that Phyllis only is
The only shepherd's only queen;
And Corydon the only swain
That only hath her shepherd been,--
Though Phyllis keep her bower of state,
Shall Corydon consume away?
No, shepherd, no, work out the week,
And Sunday shall be holiday.

The One White Hair

THE WISEST of the wise
Listen to pretty lies
And love to hear them told;
Doubt not that Solomon
Listen’d to many a one,—
Some in his youth, and more when he grew old.

I never was among
The choir of Wisdom’s song,
But pretty lies lov’d I
As much as any king,
When youth was on the wing,
And (must it then be told?) when youth had quite gone by.

Alas! and I have not
The pleasant hour forgot
When one pert lady said,
“O Walter! I am quite
Bewilder’d with affright!
I see (sit quiet now) a white hair on your head!”

Another more benign
Snipp’d it away from mine,
And in her own dark hair
Pretended it was found…
She leap’d, and twirl’d it round…
Fair as she was, she never was so fair!

Hilda

I know a woman she is forty three
And she still search for an identity
I'm still a stranger to myself she say
And in the maze of life I've lost my way.

Retrenched from her job earlier this year
She does not know where she is going from here
She now live on welfare a quarter of her wage
And her barrier to employment is her age.

With job seekers half of her age she must compete
And she feels that by time she has been beat
At forty three on the wrong side of time
And employers see her as well beyond her prime.

She was a young woman twenty years ago
And Hilda herself still doesn't seem to know
Where her life's going to, she feels a lost soul
And a bleak looking future on the dole.

I know a woman she is unemployed
And out of work to her means loss of pride
And though on her birthday she was forty three
She still searches for an identity.

The Sweet Lass-Chandrakanta

The Sweet Lass—CHANDRAKANTA

The Magnetic Moon,
Is she aptly named;
For her innocent smile
In ICF she's famed.

Like a lovely creeper
Swaying in the breeze;
She is pretty sweeter,
For one's heart does squeeze,

The dark flowing tresses
In one long plait,
Swinging to and fro
With her swan-like gait:

Adorned with an aster
In all it's bloom;
She is sure an angel,
Dispelling all gloom.

Like a new bride
Clinging to her spouse,
The pretty flower
From her own house—

Kissing her silken locks
And smiling with pride;
It is enhanced in beauty,
Tucking in at her side.

Moments of turmoil [Clipe de zbucium]

My love, I feel that you're so far away...
You've put your tiny hands upon my head,
But like a wall between us stand today
The memories of times that now are dead.

When my whole being craves you, it's in vain,
You remain still, your eyes stare in the night,
So many secrets full of grief and pain
Get lost in the deep darkness of your sight!

I hope my life will end, because I'm sad,
The wind of passion blows through the leaves green,
I ask to see the face that you once had,
Which until now I've never ever seen.

O, how I wish the pain was cured by time!
So many nights I've cherished it in vain,
I've sacrificed to it my years sublime
I've smiled... Only your heart has been my gain.

You've given it to me! And the abyss
Lies down below this flower nice and sweet,
(But when upon my brow you place your kiss
You do it like in dreams when people meet),

Because the soul, like sorrowful debris,
Preserves in it the light for old times' sake –
And when a ray pervades and reaches me
I feel, my darling, that you're thrilled and shake.

It shines in you and without warning lights
The precipice of what has been before...
I hear the story of my heart's delights,
But I can't understand it any more.

* * *

That's why tonight I really do not care
Enhance my pain or soothe this bloody scar,
I'm asking you, lost woman young and fair,
– Where do you come from and who really are?

Shall I Wasting in Despair

Shall I wasting in despair
Die because a woman's fair?
Or make pale my cheeks with care
'Cause another's rosy are?
Be she fairer than the day,
Or the flow'ry meads in May,
If she be not so to me,
What care I how fair she be?

Shall my heart be griev'd or pin'd
'Cause I see a woman kind?
Or a well-disposed nature
Joined with a lovely feature?
Be she meeker, kinder, than
Turtle dove or pelican,
If she be not so to me,
What care I how kind she be?

Shall a woman's virtues move
Me to perish for her love?
Or her well-deserving known
Make me quite forget mine own?
Be she with that goodness blest
Which may gain her name of best
If she be not such to me,
What care I, how good she be?

'Cause her fortune seems too high
Shall I play the fool and die?
Those that bear a noble mind,
Where they want of riches find,
Think what with them they would
That without them dare to woo;
And unless that mind I see,
What care I how great she be?

Great, or good, or kind, or fair,
I will ne'er the more despair;
If she love me, this believe,
I will die ere she shall grieve;
If she slight me when I woo,
I can scorn and let her go;
For if she be not for me,
What care I for whom she be?
