How I wish to be Read

quiet as mountain top lodge
ears a thousand miles off
heart in the calm of autumn lake
eyes sharp as a lawnmower
and a mind, a mind, active and
alert as a night tiger out to hunt

The Eyes Beyond

we have eyes
besides our eyes
that we see on us
the eyes that come alive
in the depth of the quiet night
when we know someone is
looking over us just nearby,
his focus ruffles that calmness
the ripple in the calm lake
our eyes meeting with
those invisible eyes
that send vibrations
through our soul
a synergy of mental energies
the eyes from beyond
that meet the eyes of my mind
could he be the almighty?
or the long lost loved ones?
i yearn for more sensors
to get closer to the owner
of those eyes that watch over
me in the middle of the night
those unseen eyes from beyond

The Prowler

The prowler lurks, the prowler stalks, the prowler softly treads.
The tiger smirks, the tiger walks, the tiger tension spreads.
The forest king intently stares... he feels the prey is close.
With every step, he shows he cares, for suddenly he knows.
It's time for him to concentrate, to focus with his mind.
For soon he must accelerate, to catch up from behind.
His muscles poised, his eyes alert, his ears now tuning in.
In seconds, he may quickly spurt, to race and then to win.
His heart beats wildly for the chase his instincts have foretold.
His prey will feel his warm embrace and yet it's cruel and cold...
He salivates for memories now come to his recall.
They torture him as if they tease, for who knows if he'll fall?
He doesn't always win the game that Nature makes him play.
Each hunt's unique and not the same, sometimes they get away...
He's hungry now... the forest king, the prowler on the path...
The ruler not the underling, who kills on his behalf.
Beware this mighty fiercesome one, he's not afraid of you...
If you see him, it's time to run... I know that's what I'd do...

by Stephen Gayford called 'The Prowler'.

Thousand Eyes

Chorus
The night has a thousand eyes
And theyre all on you
The night has a thousand ears
Listening to your cries
Let it work its magic
Let it work its magic
The night has a thousand eyes
Verse 1
You, you had to slip away
After all that spark
You, said all that you could say
And slipped into the dark
I could not let you go
Alone into the night
I had to let you know
The magic there, in the night air
Chorus
The night has a thousand eyes
And theyre all on you
The night has a thousand ears
Listening to your cries
Let it work its magic
Let it work its magic
The night has a thousand eyes
Verse 2
You, somewhere out in the dark
Runs a wounded heart
You, stumbling in the night
In the air of after light
You take along the fears
Did you waste these years,
And did they warn you
Of the night zone all alone
Sometimes it takes a fight
To keep everything on track,
And sometimes it takes a starry night
To bring the magic back
This was the time
And this was the place
With starlight on your face
And the moon on the rise,
The night has a thousand eyes

One Too Many Mornings

Down the street the dogs are barkin
And the day is a-gettin dark.
As the night comes in a-fallin,
The dogs ll lose their bark.
An the silent night will shatter
From the sounds inside my mind,
For Im one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.
From the crossroads of my doorstep,
My eyes they start to fade,
As I turn my head back to the room
Where my love and I have laid.
An I gaze back to the street,
The sidewalk and the sign,
And Im one too many mornings
An a thousand miles behind.
Its a restless hungry feeling
That dont mean no one no good,
When evrything Im a-sayin
You can say it just as good.
Youre right from your side,
Im right from mine.
Were both just too many mornings
An a thousand miles behind.

Evil Wind

Ten thousand miles I've travelled,
Ten thousand miles an' more,
Now I found myself standing,
Outside of my babies door.
I've been gone such a long time,
I never thought I would return,
Now I found myself standing in the rain,
Waiting for your key to turn, yeah, yeah.
Evil wind, passed me by,
Troubled waters, pay me no mind. I have heard the thunder,
Rolling across the sky, I have seen the morning sun,
Burn on a mountain high, I have crossed the waters
That will keep them miles apart, Now I know the time has come
To make a brand new start.
Evil wind, passed me by, Troubled waters, pay me no mind, Yeah.
Fly plane I'm coming home again, Plane fly, like an eagle
through the sky, Evil wind, troubled water, Pay me no mind; pay me no mind, oh.
Oh, yeah.
Evil wind, passed me by,
Troubled waters, pay me no mind, yeah.

Wallace Stevens

The House Was Quiet and The World Was Calm

The house was quiet and the world was calm.
The reader became the book; and summer night

Was like the conscious being of the book.
The house was quiet and the world was calm.

The words were spoken as if there was no book,
Except that the reader leaned above the page,

Wanted to lean, wanted much most to be
The scholar to whom his book is true, to whom

The summer night is like a perfection of thought.
The house was quiet because it had to be.

The quiet was part of the meaning, part of the mind:
The access of perfection to the page.

And the world was calm. The truth in a calm world,
In which there is no other meaning, itself

Is calm, itself is summer and night, itself
Is the reader leaning late and reading there.

Quiet Focus Of The Mind

The Quiet focus of the mind
Is From whence imaginations rise

Imagination of starlit creation
Stimulation to open up one’s eyes

The quiet focus of the mind
To garner truth, cast out the lies

If Intimidation begets frustration
Then Frustration leads to what’s and why’s

Well… the quiet focus of the mind
Will turn what’s and why’s to quiet sighs

Plain and simple contemplation
Levels out, life’s lows and highs

And the quiet focus of the mind
Will lift the spirit to the skies

The Great Wall

the builders
at the apex
of their monument
of sufferings

two thousand years
away from us

now quiet as the breeze
that carresses a calm

nonchalant birds cruise
and lifts themselves
above us all excited to
see who could climb
to the top

some two thousand steps
from the start of the wall
at Badaling

and there have our
pictures taken
to be hung in
home sweet home
two thousand miles away

Nature versus Collective Self

they say we are
a part of nature
but i say nature
is part of us
growing eyes,
ears, tongues
heart and mind
compass for us
to sail the ocean
of the one self we
all are part of

nature spells out
charms to the
varied senses in
the self too many
to count

when the full moon shines
the thought is lighted up
large and calm as a lake

when a person dies
he strips a part of nature
in the self

I've Been Reading....

a lot, yes a lot,
i have never stopped reading
that is what they want
they want a mind
a very well read man
with a very sharp mind

for what purpose then?

it is not a sharp mind for sharp mind's sake
you know what i mean

it is a castle with a moat
a parapet with a sharp shooter guard
you know what i mean

what they need is someone they can use
and use so well
for their own ends... a sharp mind
which can shoot like a gun
and shoot rapidly and
accurately
to kill all the enemies of the family

one that can protect this clan
and protect it
so well, and not just that,

but one who can go beyond it

amass other people's wealth
twist arguments in the family's favor

oh yes, i read a lot
and have more knowledge and a deeper understanding

Papa died a long time ago
he lost his fortune and brother says

that i who has a sharper mind than him
shall recover
what we have lost...

and must take revenge
and take what is not ours, oh yes, and go beyond all those
rules
and go around them

and this is where
i surrender, something that i understand so well

and hence
cannot do
what i am being told to do.

The Mind's Liberty

The mind, with its own eyes and ears,
May for these others have no care;
No matter where this body is,
The mind is free to go elsewhere.
My mind can be a sailor, when
This body's still confined to land;
And turn these mortals into trees,
That walk in Fleet Street or the Strand.

So, when I'm passing Charing Cross,
Where porters work both night and day,
I ofttimes hear sweet Malpas Brook,
That flows thrice fifty miles away.
And when I'm passing near St Paul's
I see beyond the dome and crowd,
Twm Barlum, that green pap in Gwent,
With its dark nipple in a cloud.

1,000 Miles Away

Its morning time, wonder where you are
Wonder who youre talking to
Wonder if the sun has risen where you are
Its morning time, I miss your hands on my skin
This beds too big without you
Oh god, what do I do?
Im a thousand miles away, and Im lying next to you.
The sun shines golden, and I feel like my car
A little run down, a little beat up, maybe just a little green
Maybe its my battery, maybe its my starter,
Maybe my hearts too weak
Theres just this feeling, thought I had to get going
Got too scary, got too big, got to get out of here
But now I dont know how to get home.
Oh god, what do I do?
Im a thousand miles away, and lying next to you.
Mama says take my vitamins,
Daddy says girl, dont stay out so late
Sister says theres other fishes in the sea
But love is not a rational thing, and my heart is beyond advice
No, love is not a rational thing
Oh god, what do I do?
Im a thousand miles away, and lying next to you.
These fields stretch out like patchwork, on my grannys quilt
She used to tell me that
Life is a series of strange and mysterious things
One minute you think youre up, the next you find youre down
Your mind says girl, you gotta stick around
But your heart says Im too weak in the knees
Oh god, what do I do?
Im a thousand miles away, and lying next to you.

Mesmeric

White tiger eyes, white tiger eyes,
So mesmeric in blue,
Are they to cut me down to size
So that I might fear you?
Or are they there to gain my trust
That friendship grows and grows?
If so, then why am I nonplussed,
Can't move my legs, feet, toes?

White tiger eyes, white tiger eyes,
If only you would blink!
I'd get a chance to realise!
I'd get a chance to think!
What lessons could you teach my soul?
What blessings for my heart?
Or would you quickly take control
And then tear me apart?

White tiger eyes, white tiger eyes,
What secrets lay behind?
What wonders lay in dark surprise
To captivate my mind?
Despite your gracious majesty,
You're getting on my wick!
First chance I get, I must break free,
Turn tail and scarper quick!

Sudden Movement

The tiger's eye was on it fast!
A sudden movement seen!
Now on his feet, he stood at last,
His mind alert and keen...
His body leapt ten feet ahead
And landed with a crunch!
Of course, the reason that he sped
Was what he hoped was lunch!

The creature that he tracked was close,
Somewhere within the snow...
That's why he sniffed with downward nose
As low as he could go...
The creature stopped, no sound was heard...
A silence met his ears.
Then all at once, the creature stirred
And dashed to join his peers...

The tiger's eye was left and right
And saw the creature run
And all at once, the bird took flight...
And nothing could be done!
The tiger's sigh was long and drawn...
No lunch for him today!
When he laid down, he paused to yawn...
And there he chose to stay...

A Lament

I know, I grow old….. I grow old
When silver threads peek in my head.
The flush on radiant cheeks wanes,
And a pallid tint creeps unseen.
Fading years have robbed the ardour
And a rigid sobriety sinks and settles.
I hear the howl of autumn winds,
That come to shake off the yellowing leaves.
Dragging tired feet through pavements
I try in vain to keep pace with the young.
Mind grows annoyed and distressed
As the bones beneath the skin go brittle.
The weary body spins rugged,
Like a rusted machine never overhauled.
The soul grows mutinous over things unknown
And reasons hard to trace.......!
There is a tumult in my silence
Like the undercurrents of calm waters.
Through miles on dreary miles of gloom
That stretch out before the eyes, endless,
Where can I find a quiet haven
To lower my burden and rest awhile?

I love the word 'calm

I love the word ‘calm’
‘The sea lies calm tonight’
‘Ne’er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep!
‘And calm of mind, all passion spent’
I love the word ‘calm’
And the feeling of peace,
And the joy in quiet,
And the sense of all things well,
It gives.

Back In My Heart

A grey ghost night
On an eastern flight
Sixteen thousand miles away
I lay awake
When the morning breaks
But what can I do to get you
Back in my heart again
The towns top gun
Safe at number one
No mans will can change my life
Safe and certain
But now Im hurtin
So what can I do to get you
Chorus
Back in my heart again
Blowin through my life
Life a cold winters wind
Now in my mind I know I didnt win
I want you back in my heart again
Baby, baby
What can I say
I was wrong so I ran away
A million miles
Wont make me smile
I want you, want you, want you
