The Stray

Her husbands’ death had come upon him quick.
He’d always been so full of life and song.
She’d had no warning that her Tom was sick.
until he crumpled to the sidewalk and was gone.

The very day they put her husband in the ground,
a Jet black Lab with no collar or license
that she took to calling “Pepper” came around.
“He must belong to someone.” was her sense.

She put up signs and Ads and asked around.
She made inquiries to find the owner of the Lab.
No one in town had seen the dog before
the day they placed her man beneath the sod.

Pepper stayed faithfully at his mistress’ side
They took long walks down Beachcomber Way
Only Pepper heard the tears she cried
and stayed by her till the sadness passed away

Three winters they passed in that little town,
a town that made its living from the sea.
Eventually she felt strong enough to work
and re acclimate to life and company

As Spring’s warmth dissipates the winter gloom,
Sadness cannot forever shadow hearts
The heart is a perennial and so will bloom
as soon as the snows of sorrow will depart.

Then, on the anniversary of the date
the day they placed her husband in the ground,
She called and called but Pepper didn’t come-
The Jet black Lab was nowhere to be found.

She put up signs and Ads and asked around.
She made inquiries to find her dog again.
but no one ever saw the Lab in town.
The stray will go where he is taken in.

Pepper | Smart Mouth Poetry / lyrics

Sharp tongue, smart mouth

Fine line, know how

Stay calm, pull it together

Speaks soft, don’t sound like pepper

It hurts, tastes sharp

When you walk in, and start to talk

Cuts deep, feel it forever

My heart is burning, burning like pepper

Stop, sounding, like pepper

Scattering your pieces all over

You’re gonna, stay black forever

So I’ll ground you, the more the better

I’ll ground you like pepper

Ground you like pepper

Ground you forever

It would be better

If you stopped the pepper

Stop with the spice

Stop with the tone

Stop burning holes

Right threw my bones

I’ve got a heart

It’s soft and its tender

Try and be smart

Stop using pepper

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

(LennonMcCartney)
It was twenty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile.
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
We hope you will enjoy the show,
We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
Sit back and let the evening go.
Sgt. Pepper's lonely, Sgt. Pepper's lonely,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
It's wonderful to be here,
It's certainly a thrill.
You're such a lovely audience,
We'd like to take you home with us,
We'd love to take you home.
I don't really want to stop the show,
But I thought that you might like to know,
That the singer's going to sing a song,
And he wants you all to sing along.
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

New Orleans

(mark d. sanders/bob dipiero/steve seskin)
He was twenty-five, she was twenty-eight
He was home grown country, shed just pulled off the interstate
She bought a dr. pepper, ten dollars worth of gas
She was ovbiously lost but too afraid to ask directions
So he offered her a smile and a stick of beech nut gum
He said where you headed to girl, where are you coming from
She said
New orleans but thats another story
New orleans thats another time
Thats another town, thats another life
First she stayed a day then she stayed a week
Couple of months later they were living on his parents street
He worked the station and she worked the store
And then they had a baby and
Then they had one more little jesse
When she dropped the kids off at the mothers day out
All the ladies had their questions
But they knew not to ask about
New orleans but thats another story
New orleans thats another time
Thats another town, thats another life
Wednesday night supper at the first baptist church
Stranger standin in the doorway
As theyre passin out the dessert
He said go on and pack your bags
Cause Im here to take you home
Im goin back to louisiana
And woman I aint gonna go with out you
Theres a few defining moments in every persons life
When you know what youve done wrong
And you know what youve done right
And before the congregation and her husband and her kids
She says, how dare you even speak to me
After everything you did...in
New orleans but thats another story
New orleans thats another time
Thats another town, thats another life
Thats another town, thats another life

Sugar and Pepper

There is girl name is Sugar
Her heart is sweet like a candy
And all the bees want her honey

There is boy name is Pepper
His words are spicy but worthy
and every meat wants his beat

Sugar and Pepper have been friend all long
Quarrelling and crying are uncountable
But they never take as heart's wound
and they still sing a song

Sugar is pretty like a flower
When she smiles there's a sunshine
And every man gets first-sight-love

Pepper's voice is like whistle
When he gaze there's a thunder
And no woman can fight that

Sugar and Pepper are just friend not more
Finding something that can't be controlled
But they pretend nothing to show
And they just say 'hello'

Just An Ordinary Fellow

His life revolves around work his mates and football
But his wife and children he seldom does talk of at all
Each evening after work he calls to the pub
Or else to the bar-room of the Football Club.

In his early to mid thirties he is well liked in the town
To have kicked five goals in the local Grand Final is his one claim to renown
And though his team did not win the flag he earned his local fame
With a best on ground display on a beaten side he made for himself a name.

His wife takes care of the children a boy of four and a girl of three
She is not well known in the town few as down to earth as she
So different from her husband she's never seen at the pub
And she is not a member of any local club.

He is a well liked character and in the town well known
And the local people say of him he is one of our own
Not a bad husband and father though better than him not hard to find
Just an ordinary fellow in his own way he is kind.

Eight Miles High

(clark,crosby,mcguinn)
Eight miles high
And when you touch down
You find youre
Stranger than known
Signs in the street
That say where youre going
Are somewhere
Just being their own
Nowhere is there
Warmth to be found
Just those afraid
Of losing their ground
Rain grey town
Known for its sound
In places
Small faces around
Round the squares
Huddled in storms
Some laughing
Some just shapeless forms
Sidewalk scenes
And black limousines
Some living
Some standing
Alone

Two Lonely Hearts (Love Ballad) :

We've been apart, for a very long time.
Time is still on my mind.
I must find my way back to you.

It's been awhile, since you stared in my eyes.
True love never dies.
As the stars begin to shine.

'Cause two lonely hearts.
Come together as one.
In the middle of town.
In the middle of the town.

Two lonely hearts.
Come together as one.
In the middle of town.
In the middle of the town.

You stayed away, for a very long time.
Your thought still on my mind.
I must find my way back to you.

I always thought, you would stand next to me.
You would never leave.
You would never leave my side.

'Cause two lonely hearts.
Come together as one.
In the middle of town.
In the middle of the town.

'Cause two lonely hearts.
Come together as one.
In the middle of town.
In the middle of the town..

The 1st Mistake I Made

I aint got no claim to nothing.
I dont mess with anyone.
I walk my way living in a masquerade.
And one day I looked behind me at all the things Ive done.
Thats the 1st mistake I ever made.
I was born to a lonely women in a town called buffalo.
Never knew the man who never stayed.
With my 12-string on my back I discovered every track.
Thats the 1st mistake I ever made.
With a million hearts Ive broken.
I never kept the score.
Memories of good love hate to stay.
But I still remember someone who loved me so much more.
Thats the 1st mistake I ever made.
So, when nothings worth the living and in the night I look above.
Prayed, about a million times I prayed.
I know my story ended when I lost my only love.
Thats the 1st mistake I ever made.
I was born to a lonely women in a town called buffalo.
Never knew the man who never stayed.
With my 12-string on my back I discovered every track.
Thats the 1st mistake I ever made.

The Spices

Of the spices of life,
Of the spices of love,
Of the spices of peace,
Of the spices of my mind,
Life in Africa maters to me lot.
Of Black Cumin,
Of Red Peppercorns,
Of Black Mustard,
Of Cayenne Pepper,
Of White Mustard,
Of Mixed Peppercorns,
Of Mahaleb Cherry,
Of Szechuan pepper,
Almost everybody is with a mobile phone in Africa!
But strong alcohol are consumed daily by the majority unemployed.
In Africa,
My mind sits and writes;
Because, life in Africa matters to me a lot.
Of Coriander, Ground Ginger, Fenugreek, Turmeric and Paprika!
Like the struggles daily in Africa for a survival;
But one day, we will get there.

Forever Friend

For Mike Bird
1943 - 2005
My forever friend.

I never though I’d have to say
The words I did over you
As they lowered you slowly into the ground
But there was one else
To say them, only me.
We’d been friends
For over forty years
At times we were almost brothers
Many happy Christmases you spent with my wife and me.
You became part of our extended family
You were an only child
and when your parents passed away
We befriended each other
During troubles and hardships
Through the years that came our way
Our friendship was strong
Even when for some reason or another
We didn’t see each other for a while
We never argued or raised our voices
Whenever we disagreed
Which I recall, wasn’t often
I remember you only getting heated
When some publisher rejected me
Saying “The fools, can’t they see.”
They were my failures, but you took them to heart.
Whenever you succeeded
I was first to congratulate you
I am so proud to have had you as my friend
Words can’t express the sorrow that I felt
When they said you had gone
I wanted to be on my own
Go somewhere and cry
Unfortunately responsibilities made me pass that by
Your cousins all the time you were alive
They stayed away from you
Didn’t even want you in their homes
Then they heard you were dying
Out of the wood work they came
To see what they could get
Oh, what a shame
They never knew
You didn’t have a penny to your name
He wasn’t religious they proclaimed
So no priest was sought
We gathered in the chapel
Only seven people came
Someone read a eulogy
But they didn’t know the real you
And that was that
I was asked to say a few words
As they lowered your coffin into the ground
With a lump in my throat, eyes full of tears
In a voice choked and low
I asked God to look after and protect
Your immortal soul
I held your wake at my house
Where you had spent so many happy times
I talked about you to your cousins
And they found out more about you
Than they ever knew
When they left and I was alone with my thoughts
I said a silent prayer for you
You my forever friend

Both Sides Now

So long, big city; it's time to say goodbye.I'm longing for those country roads;I need to see the sky.Think I'll take a swing down south, visit Tennessee.See if that girl Annie still remembers me.
Gonna take that blue highway and leave this sorry town.Stayed too long, but now I'm gone, and I know where I'm bound.I don't wanna take the interstate; it represents all the things I hate.I'm rollin' down that blue highway.
So long, confusion; it's time to slow things down.Say goodbye to my old friends, ease on out of town.I made me some money here but paid for ev'ry day.And ev'ry mile just makes me smile, 'cause I made my getaway.
Gonna take that blue highway and leave this sorry town.I've stayed too long, but now I'm gone, and I know where I'm bound.I've had it up to here with worry. From now on, I'm in no hurry, rollin' down that blue highway.
I'll be ridin' that blue highway and leave this sorry town.I've stayed too long, but now I'm gone, and I know where I'm bound.I've had it up to here with worry. From now on, I'm in no hurry, rollin' down that blue highway.I'll be rollin' down that blue highway. You can find me on that blue highway.

My Town

Tis my town
Am not proud of it;
But it is my home
Made it my own

Have found
Many memories,
Of things gone by
In this town
I call my own.

Born of iron and steel
Upon the river goes
This town of mine
I have made own

Stumbled upon things
I never owned
Down in
This town
I call my own

Town And Country

THE Sun tells to Trafalgar Square
His old and radiant story,
And touches in the young spring air
The pepper-pots to glory.

Spring's robe down Piccadilly floats,
The parks glow with her treasure,
And button-holes of morning coats
Rhyme with her royal pleasure.

Now persons beautifully dressed
In Bond-street shop and saunter,
And town--by Spring's soft breath caressed--
Would as its mistress vaunt her.

But far away from square and street,
Where willows shine and shiver,
The splendour of her silver feet
Is on the wood and river.

She laughs among the tree-roots brown,
Among the dewy clover,
For Spring coquets but with the town;
The country is her lover.

Hey You

Youre living in a small town
The people there are cold
Just living in a small town
Just doing as youre told
You move up to the jungle
You find that its a hell
When you slip, you fall, you stumble
They lock you in a cell
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, all your friends told you in your small town
Hey you, youve got it made
Just living in your home town
Sometimes its kinda cruel
Living in your home town
Where they treat you like a fool
You move up to the city
You find that its tough
And it doesnt seem very pretty
Now youre sleeping in the rough
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you
Youve got it made
Hey you
Youre heading for the big time
Hey you, youve got it made
Youre headed for a life of crime
Living in this jungle
Its like living in a hell
When you slip, you fall, you stumble
They lock you in a cell
You move out to the country
For something you have done
Youre living in the country
Why dont you go back to where you come from?
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Hey you, youve got it made
Forget all these backslappers
You dont stand a chance
Why dont you go home?
Go right back to where you come from
Dont get involved in this masquerade
This big city is going to eat you up
All the backslapping
Hey you, youve got it made

Under A Sky So Blue

This cynical town will never die
Something lost can’t be saved
Doesn’t matter the tears you cry
Can’t stop this way that’s been paved

I find it strange nothing new
Never knew it was a danger
Under a sky so blue
Never feared that stranger

What’s the point if it’s lost?
Something we want to hide
Who cares at what cost
As long as by the laws we abide

Don’t tell me to leave it be
Its wrong never been so right
Why, why won’t you see!
Where is that kind light?

Listen to their cries
So desperate needing a hero
Blinded by their simple lies
All their lives adding up to zero

But no this cynical town will never die
Something lost can’t be saved
Doesn’t matter the tears you cry
Can’t stop this way that’s been paved

How I Became Known As Dodgy Dave

From time to time people ask me
how I got the name Dodgy Dave
and why I take no offence at it.
The story starts about six or seven years ago
when I joined a Western Re-Enactment Society.
I went to help build a western town
that eventually became know as Deadwood.
As the date for near completion came
the only building left to be finished was the Church.
The original builders had left it only half built.
The owner of the farm
on which the town is built
wanted it finished for our grand opening day.
Someone suggested that because of all the help,
I had given, why I don’t take it on
and they would help me finish it,
but I needed a town name
that would go along with the building,
I thought for a moment and then said
what about Reverend Mr Black
after the old Kingston Trio song.

So for a couple of years
I became known as Rev. Mr Black.
Two of my friends Buck and Caroline
(better know to one and all as Caz)
were planning their wedding.
They were going to have an official ceremony
on the Friday and on the Saturday;
they were to have another wedding in the town.
They asked if I would marry them in the town ceremony.
I told them I would be honoured.
Caz then went around telling everyone,
family and friends
that Dodgy Dave the vicar was going to marry them,
but he isn’t dodgy,
it’s just my pet name for him.
Soon everybody started calling me Dodgy Dave.
However, with every nice story
somehow sadness always intervenes.
Six weeks before their wedding,
this pretty woman who had renamed me Dodgy Dave
died at the tender age of thirty.
We held a wake for her in the town
on the day she and Buck were to marry.
It was a sad affair,
but her memory remains with me
every time someone calls me Dodgy Dave.
There are so many memories attached to that name.
It was never given out of malice,
but out of friendship sincere.
Now the name Dodgy Dave
has become very dear to me.
I use it all the time,
because when I do it reminds me
of the young woman with fair hair
whose friendship I treasured so
and I never want to let the memory of her go.
So there you have it
the story behind the christening
of me to Dodgy Dave

Good bye sadness

Good bye Sadness
She is so happy now
That you are out of her mind
You finally vanished
Good bye Sadness
Why are you called Sadness?
Because that’s the name they given you
You make people cry
You even made her cry too many times
There was a dark cloud hanging in her eyes
For a long tine
And now it is gone
Good bye sadness
She doesn’t need to see you again
You are also painful
Good bye sadness
You belong in the sad Sea
Where the pain lays
Among the dead fishes
In that sad Sea
The oil from that big ship and vessels
Pollutes this sad Sea
She doesn’t want to be a part of the Sad Sea either
Because it is sad to see
All that wild life dies
Good bye sadness
You never had anything good to offer her anyway
Pain and more pain you brought her all through those years
But the truth is that she had to go through it
To appreciate the good stuff
Yes sadness I can tell you she went through with it
For a long time
Good bye sadness
Please stay away from her forever
She doesn’t need you in her life
Sadness breaks everybody’s hearts
Her heart was broken too many times
By you sadness
Good bye sadness
