Dylan Thomas
The first time that he saw the girl
he proposed right on the spot.
It helped to get his courage up
that he'd had many a beer and shot.
Theirs would not be a summer's love
that flares and quickly fades away.
It was a fifteen round affair
where shadows lengthened with the day.
Fidelity, not their chief concern.
They had three children and many a glass
The artist was consumed by drink.
He chased skirt at every chance
He was drowning in encouragement
though no one ever needed less.
Some say he was consumed by fears
of the shadowy unwelcome guest.
On the day that he began to die,
to slip into last last good night
He nearly drank the tavern dry
Eighteen shots of the water of life.
He was comatose when she arrived,
the dancer who he took for bride.
'Is the bloody man still alive? '
'Just barely'. the attending nurse replied.
Slowly, surely, he drifted off
like a vessel making way
Dylan headed for the west.
no rage remained to save the day.

Open Table
MANY a guest I'd see to-day,
Met to taste my dishes!
Food in plenty is prepar'd,
Birds, and game, and fishes.
Invitations all have had,
All proposed attending.
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
Pretty girls I hope to see,
Dear and guileless misses,
Ignorant how sweet it is
Giving tender kisses.
Invitations all have had,
All proposed attending.
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
Women also I expect,
Loving tow'rd their spouses,
Whose rude grumbling in their breasts
Greater love but rouses.
Invitations they've had too,
All proposed attending!
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
I've too ask'd young gentlemen,
Who are far from haughty,
And whose purses are well-stock'd,
Well-behaved, not haughty.
These especially I ask'd,
All proposed attending.
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
Men I summon'd with respect,
Who their own wives treasure;
Who in ogling other Fair
Never take a pleasure.
To my greetings they replied,
All proposed attending.
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
Then to make our joy complete,
Poets I invited,
Who love other's songs far more
Than what they've indited.
All acceded to my wish,
All proposed attending.
Johnny, go and look around!
Are they hither wending?
Not a single one appears,
None seem this way posting.
All the soup boils fast away,
Joints are over-roasting.
Ah, I fear that we have been
Rather too unbending!
Johnny, tell me what you think!
None are hither wending.
Johnny, run and quickly bring
Other guests to me now!
Each arriving as he is--
That's the plan, I see now.
In the town at once 'tis known,
Every one's commending.
Johnny, open all the doors:
All are hither wending!

Set the mood

Take off your coat
And stay a while

Just so we could make love slow

Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
You think Im no good, well I know Ive been bad
Took you to a place, now you cant get back
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Walked together down a dead end street
We were mixing the bitter with the sweet
Dont try to figure out what we might of had
Just two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Im just a singer, some say a sinner
Rolling the dice, not always a winner
You say Ive been lucky, well hell Ive made my own
Not part of the crowd, but not feeling alone
Under pressure, but not bent out of shape
Surrounded, we always found an escape
Drove me to drink, but hey thats not all bad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Guess Ive been greedy, all of my life
Greedy with my children, my lovers, my wife
Greedy for the good things as well as the bad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Maybe its just talk, saloon singing
The chairs are all stacked, the swingings stopped swinging
You say I hurt you, you put the finger on yourself
Then after you did it, you came crying for my help
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Im not complaining, baby Im glad
You call it a compromise, well whats that
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
(happy birthday, frank)

For drink, there was beer which was very strong when not mingled with water, but was agreeable to those who were used to it. They drank this with a reed, out of the vessel that held the beer, upon which they saw the barley swim.
Desire’s deserving
Does the lion deserve the bison
That he chased and consumed?
Does the man deserve the woman
That he chased and consumed?
Are they criminals? Must they be
Punished? Desire does not care
If it deserves what it desires.

Against The Night
A light on your shoulder,
Cool as ice and bright as lightnin'
Thunder in your eyes,
Talk to me and tell me
I'm in deeper every move.
'Till I'm almost lost in you.
Can you feel the way
That I can't hold back,
There's no limit to
What love can do.
Girl, it's only
You and me against the night.
In the shadows,
Finding love could save your life.
In a world of strangers,
The lovers will survive.
It's all that we have,
You and me against the night.
We should be movin',
Like a thief time steals your chances.
Now we got the fire,
But you wonder how long can we
Keep the spark alive.
If it takes us through the night.
Then it's all that I need
And I won't take less,
For the moment I know you're mine.
Girl, it's only
You and me against the night.
In the shadows,
Finding love can save your life.
In a world of strangers,
The lovers will survive.
It's all that we have,
You and me against the night.
Lead Break
Can we keep the spark alive?
'Cause it takes us
Through the night.
Then it's all that I need, And I won't take less,
For the moment I know you're mine,
You're mine, yeah.
Girl, it's only
You and me against the night.
In the shadows,
Finding love can save your life.
In a world of strangers,
The lovers will survive.
It's all that we have,
You and me against the night.
You and me against the night.
Against the night

Love, the dive in and out
Falling in love
Is like diving into water
With a splash.
To be in love
Is like to be
In water and inside water
swimming, sporting, playing
Frolicking, floating
With air and without water
To be with the outer world
To be without the outer world.
To be out of love
Is coming out of water
The deeper, one in love
The more time is consumed to come out
The more time is consumed to dry oneself
Getting out of love
Is not coming out to senses
Time has different unseen path
To traverse back
For each lover in love.

Mother to daughter
As an infant in my arms,
As a baby on my shoulder,
As a child on my laps,
As a kid held by my hand,
As a girl kept in my care,
As a spinster in my guard,
As a bride with my concern,
As a mother kept in focus,
You have drifted away from me.
Distance extends.
Relation fades.
Umbilical cord reminds
You are a part of me.
My concern for you remains.

Dial 8
On a sea of nails in self doubt
I push this feeling further into this sound.
In all this failing i could never hide
The truth of pain that left me broken on the inside.
We are the future, We are the lie
Trapped in holy innocence we only wish to thrive
We are the nightmare buried deep in your mind
We are the travesty sweetened with your pain.
Alive, Alive, but Barely Alive.
Alive, Alive, but Barely Alive.
Shepherds spreading death
Dragged outside shot in the head.
Holy maimed again.
Dragged outside shot in the head.
A million faces in a bloody shroud
I hear their voices calling me to put you down.
Covered in blood, drowning in my hate
I covered my eyes, I covered your eyes
I covered my eyes.
We are the cancer eating at your mind.
We are the ministries for all of your crimes.
Shepherds spreading deaht.
Dragged outside shot in the head
Holy maimed again.
Dragged outside shot in the head
Dragged outside shot in the head
Holy maimed, holy maimed again.

Trauma Of Time
Time Fades The Smile, Not The Pain.
Time Drains The Water Not The Damage From The Rain.
Time Fades The Tomorrow Not The Yesterday.
Time Fades The Cuts But The Scars Never Go Away.
Time Fades The Sweetness Not All The Things Sour.
Time Fades Those Few Precious Moments But Not The Crippling Hour.
Time Fades The Sun, Not It’s Brutal Remains.
Time Fades The Photographs Not There Stains.
Time Fades The Lessons Not All The Things That I’ve Learned.
Time Puts Out The Fire But Not The Days I Burned.
Time Fades The Colors Not The Glaring White.
Time Fades The Bruises Not The Darkness In The Night.
Time Fades The Happiness Not The Tears.
Time Fades The Triumphs Not The Fears.
Time Fades The Storm Not The Ocean.
Time Fades The Memories Not The Emotion.
Time Fades The Dreams Not The Nightmare.
Time Fades The Hand Not The Times You Weren’t There.
Time Fades The Beauty Not The Gloom.
Time Fades The Doors And Windows Not The Empty Room.
Time Fades The Love Not The Empty Lie.
Time Fades The Hello But Never The Goodbye.

Makin' Good Love
I got your legs spread all over the bed
hands clenched in the sheets
hair wild as hell I know
the only thing on your mind is sexin me
girl I can feel your temperature rising
you should feel my nature too
come on you should its gonna be a bumpy ride
girl lets do what we came to do
Girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love
girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love (come to daddy baby)
On the balcony ripping the rails
slowly I'm pulling you near
sayin shhhh babe dont make to much noise
theres alot of peoples who live around here
emotions running high
my hands planted on your thighs
you feel me going up and down
and round and round and round
Girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love
girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love (come to daddy baby)
Girl your drive wait in the back seat
windows tinted its getting deep
fog all over the glass
I dont know how long i can last
with you moaning crazy
girl keep on calling me
I'll take you to exctasy
and when im done you'll be fast asleep
Girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love
girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love (come to daddy baby)
The house the boat and the jeep babe
in the tube in the pool or the beach babe
get your groove on (get your groove on) get your groove on [x2]
Girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love
girl when we make love all night
when we make good love all night
when we make love all night
we really make love (come to daddy baby)

Sharing the world love
Sharing the world love is what we all need to do
This is why I am writing this poem from me to you
There are some people in the world waiting for it to appear
The drunken man needs it rather than being intoxicated with beer
Now let’s talk about some places of the world starting with France
When I went to France I once met a man called lance
I now it sounds stupid how it wouldn’t happen but bear with me
Now let me tell you but lance was blind so we all know he could see
And because of that people said that lance would never love
And that finding someone who could love him would be tough
But I went out about Paris with him spreading the word of his personality
And by the end of the week he found someone despite his disability
Now I think I’ll move on to when I went to Italy and to the capital Rome
Back to the capital of Christianity and where the pope sits on his throne
Where I found a young hopeless catholic by the name of Paul Dove
Who like the others I will tell you of, had a lot of trouble with love
He’d had relationships before but not like his last
He’d loved her and proposed but she rejected him and left him very fast
He felt like his life had just collapsed around him that he had nothing left
But onwards he just managed to keep to going and the rest of his life he kept
But it was to much in the end the went to a high spot to end it
And whilst he was there he was shocked to see at the corner of the building where I sit
I said do you really want to jump off her and so we sat and talked
I don’t know where he is know but I know away from a messy end he walked
And then in my travels I decided id travel to Barcelona
Once again by myself still as a loner
I straight away headed to the beach and whilst I was there I saw trouble
There was a woman drowning losing oxygen almost on her last bubble
Automatically I swam out to save her a bring her back to shore
And when id dived to save her a brought her back up she looked in awe
She looked at me and said I didn’t know there where men like you left
And those are the first words I heard when we met
And she said let me reward you properly when we get back to shore
Little did I know she was a 20 euro whore
She got out of the ocean took me back to the house and stripped to the nude
But I couldn’t do it so I left with the words im not in the mood
And that’s when my journey brought me back home to my England
Where the people are happy whilst the men drink and the youth make a new band
And this is where I felt different as if there was something her for me that Ive now found
And there she was straight in my face and she was speaking her mind rather loud
And I stopped I watched waiting to speak with her
And at the end of the day she stopped faced me and said can I help you good sir
And I replied yes what where you doing just then
And she replied my lord give a brain to these simple men
She said to me Ive been spreading the word of a man who’s helped many in other lands
And I replied who is this man let the information swap hands
And she replied all I know of his name is Daniel Laurence
And his quest for helping people has an amazing endurance
I replied with a smile I my dear am Daniel Laurence
And my quest is the one with the incredible endurance
She was awed in amazement she claimed I love what you’re doing it’s amazing
And she smiled at me with her smile dazzling
And so we talk for the rest of the night
The way we looked at each other was an extraordinary sight
And now where together in a people helping partnership
But also I found her so wonderful were now in a relationship
This shows that even the one helping can’t help them selves
But will always need someone else to help ring there bells
And I just hope that you can follow this story of selflessness
And then help others rather than just helping your selves

Deep Water
Is it a crime for me to be feeling this way
I'm going out of my mind and there's
no change from a runaway love
Is it a dream (is it a dream)
That I'm throwing in the wishing well
I'm losing control my body and soul
(body and soul)Standing here waiting
for a train that may never come
I saw the signs I read the books
I should of had a second look
ut you caught me dreaming
nd there were times you'd come around a
we'd agreed to just be friends tell
me who it's fooling oooo
Deep water I'm drowning
Deep water I'm slowly drowning in deeper
Deep water I'm drowning
Deep water I'm slowly drowning in deeper
what do I say(what can I say)
where words have failed me before
what do i do when i'm feeling so blue
and there's no place for me to run and hide
I saw the sun inside your smile and wished
for then just awhile cause boy you caught
me dreaming a giant step into the dark
and we through caution to the wind tell
me who we're fooling oooo
Deep water I'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning in deeper
Deep water i'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning deeper
i'm drowning
deeper deeper i'm drowning in deeper
oh i saw the signs i read the book
i should have had a second look
cause boy you caught me dreaming
and there are times youd come around
and we'd agreed to just be friends tell me who it's fooling
Deep water i'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning in deeper
deep water i'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning in deeper
deeper deeper deeper
i'm drowning in deeper
(drowning in drowning in drowning in)
deeper deeper deeper
so deep is the water
(drowning in drowning in drowning in)
fade out

I Am Wine
I am wine for you to drink and extract pleasure, just slowly,
So that alcohol is consumed to deter, just slowly.
When the substance floats away and crumbles beneath the skin of the Earth,
A plant has been contained in our hands, the hand is the detector, just slowly.
Living is loved for its juices, the very amount is not worth knowing,
Like the speed of the Earth’s orbit, the detester, just slowly.
May life begin again for the best outcome and this love,
The world is cooked with it, and living is a detailer, just slowly.
Loneliness is the solution to the problems of Love,
May the alcohol burn to exist in a flood, Love is a member, just slowly.
May life enchant the believer and the careless water,
May Loving Men and Women see my wine, and me as mediator, just slowly.

Dave Lilly
There's a brook on the side of Greylock that used to be full of trout,
But there's nothing there now but minnows; they say it is all fished out.
I fished there many a Summer day some twenty years ago,
And I never quit without getting a mess of a dozen or so.
There was a man, Dave Lilly, who lived on the North Adams road,
And he spent all his time fishing, while his neighbors reaped and sowed.
He was the luckiest fisherman in the Berkshire hills, I think.
And when he didn't go fishing he'd sit in the tavern and drink.
Well, Dave is dead and buried and nobody cares very much;
They have no use in Greylock for drunkards and loafers and such.
But I always liked Dave Lilly, he was pleasant as you could wish;
He was shiftless and good-for-nothing, but he certainly could fish.
The other night I was walking up the hill from Williamstown
And I came to the brook I mentioned,
and I stopped on the bridge and sat down.
I looked at the blackened water with its little flecks of white
And I heard it ripple and whisper in the still of the Summer night.
And after I'd been there a minute it seemed to me I could feel
The presence of someone near me, and I heard the hum of a reel.
And the water was churned and broken, and something was brought to land
By a twist and flirt of a shadowy rod in a deft and shadowy hand.
I scrambled down to the brookside and hunted all about;
There wasn't a sign of a fisherman; there wasn't a sign of a trout.
But I heard somebody chuckle behind the hollow oak
And I got a whiff of tobacco like Lilly used to smoke.
It's fifteen years, they tell me, since anyone fished that brook;
And there's nothing in it but minnows that nibble the bait off your hook.
But before the sun has risen and after the moon has set
I know that it's full of ghostly trout for Lilly's ghost to get.
I guess I'll go to the tavern and get a bottle of rye
And leave it down by the hollow oak, where Lilly's ghost went by.
I meant to go up on the hillside and try to find his grave
And put some flowers on it -- but this will be better for Dave.

Not Tonight
Like a Siren calling me
Relentlessly to death,
My latent love of alcohol
haunts my every breath.
It started out quite innocent-
A scotch sipped here and there-
Progressing by degrees into
a sordid love affair.
A beer or three drunk at the game
And I was good company.
But, starting in the parking lot
I got disorderly.
Once a few drinks were consumed
Cold winter evenings lost their gloom-
Until my wife divorced me-
Now I live in rented rooms.
I managed, barely, while at work
I’ve got a union card.
I was often absent Mondays
which my boss thought very odd.
I had to find myself some help
To rise from my despair-
Wednesday nights in my church basement
There’s an A.A. meeting there.
I have a mentor guiding me
He’s been to Hell and back.
He always takes my phone calls
when Johnnie Walker wants me back..
And so I will not drink today
Ten weeks now I’ve been sober.
I spilled the drink into the sink-
I think… I hope it’s over.
While this is a work of fiction, it is a true story for many friends of Bill W.

Drowning
I dont love you
But Im lost
Thinking of you
And the ghosts
Of so many special moments
That passed so quickly at the time
And now they come and track me down
And echo round and round and round
And time goes quickly
Or disappears completely
And I feel like I fade away
Like drowning
I dont need you
But its so hard
To be without you
Though youre not far away
I censor my emotions
And tell myself to bide my time
But every time you come around
You batter my defenses down
But so gently
Like some sweet hypnosis
And the world just slips away
Im drowning
Its dark
My heart is pounding
Im sinking down
Into a pool of passion
Theres laughter as I drown
Like so many lost before me
Damned by lust and gone to hell
And then I look into your eyes
And something melts
I shake inside
And cool water
Washes me all over
Washes me away
And still Im drowning

When We Are Left Alone In The House
just you and me
i am 48 and you will be 45 the next day
and we are left alone because they all have to be in their homes
her mother is sick and she must bring money
on the other hand, she is quitting her job and leave us for good
to join her lover in the city, her last chance to be married at 36
these domestic help helping themselves
to be not like us, loners
consumed by the weariness of our flesh
for years and years the hours filled with emptiness
i can hear the sound of the clock ticking so slowly
like the fins of an old goldfish in the glass bowl
i bought for you on the day of our marriage
today we are left alone in the house
you keep yourself busy washing the dishes
drying the laundry in the yard figuring out that you may rush again
the next minute it will rain
the cloud darkens
i keep choosing my words, thinking the idea of this union
us for 24 years, just us, just us and nobody else
in the same house, the same furnitures unbroken feet
and unstained in the living room, where the same color of
drapes are changed almost on the same months, the same seasons
boredom, too much familiarity, the wear and tear of our gazes
i call you from the kitchen, asking you to give me a glass of cold water
and you complied like the woman who loves her man more than him
loving her
i have more words to choose, more ideas to think, to trap, to keep,
to smoothen and polish like a piece of wood sculpted to the form
of a woman's beautiful body
thank you i said, i thrive on cold water, all the days of my life,
i take in the water that slides on my throat
smooth like red rhum down to my soul, i could have asked you again
if i had the courage, i ask myself if my love is strong if this will survive
us, through the boring years that come and yet to come
i did not have the courage to ask, if
you still love me
with my balding head and wrinkling skin
i got colder, i am sure, it is the water, half of the ice in the glass
is completely melted.

Marley Purt Drive
Sunday morning, woke up yawning; filled the pool for a swim.
Pulled down the head and looked in the glass just to see if I was in.
Went up the stairs and kissed my women to make her come alive.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids ,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
That's how they are, so I grabbed out the car;convertible fifty-nine.
Headed for the freeway; tried to find the Pasadena sign.
Ten miles and three quarters more I wasn't feeling any more alive.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
I used to be a minstrel free with a whole lot of bread in my bag.
I used to feel that my life was real, but the good Lord threw me a snag.
Now I'm gonna be the same as me ,no matter how I try.
'Cause with fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Fifteen kids and a fam'ly on the skids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Turned 'round the car and headed for home; I guess I realized my fate.
Ten miles and three quarters more I pulled up outside the gate.
Twenty more kids were stood inside and that made thirty-five.
'Cause with an orphanage full of thirty-five kids,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
An orphanage full of thirty-five kids ,
I got to go for a Sunday drive.
Sunday morning woke up yawning; filled the pool for a swim.
Pulled down the glass and looked in the mirror just to see if I was in .
Went up the stairs and kissed my women to make her come alive.
'Cause with an orphanage full of thirty-five kids ,
I got to go for a Sunday
