Song From Amphitryon
Air Iris I love, and hourly I die,
But not for a lip, nor a languishing eye:
She's fickle and false, and there we agree,
For I am as false and as fickle as she.
We neither believe what either can say;
And, neither believing, we neither betray.
'Tis civil to swear, and say things of course;
We mean not the taking for better or worse.
When present, we love; when absent, agree:
I think not of Iris, nor Iris of me.
The legend of love no couple can find,
So easy to part, or so equally join'd.

Fair Iris I Love and Hourly I Die

An Imitation Of Anacreon
PAINTER in Paphos and Cythera famed
Depict, I pray, the absent Iris' face.
Thou hast not seen the lovely nymph I've named;
The better for thy peace.--Then will I trace
For thy instruction her transcendent grace.
Begin with lily white and blushing rose,
Take then the Loves and Graces... But what good
Words, idle words? for Beauty's Goddess could
By Iris be replaced, nor one suppose
The secret fraud--their grace so equal shows.
Thou at Cythera couldst, at Paphos too,
Of the same Iris Venus form anew.

Eye Can't Lie!
Non verbal signals, Understand the pupils,
When these are bigger, smaller and normal,
One is attracted to another, the iris open wider,
Black grape balls in the white eye balls glitter.
Look at the eyes and the eyes don't lie,
When the pupils are shrunk to the beat,
Of sorrow and sadness, though have a false smile,
Eyes speak thousand of mute words,
To show the expression of their minds,
When we are happy these are dilated,
When we are sad these are constricted,
When we are intoxicated and feel happy and sad,
These are either dilated or constricted,
As if the iris controls the light to control our emotion,
When we are lifeless, the eyes still speak the truth,
Pupils are dilated as if the Iris found the truth in light.
When we are dead, the pupils are big,
As If the happiness is found in that last breath.

Love's Logic [Couplet Sonnet]
The more ways I find to express my love,
The more I love you, and the better for love,
And more: What more than seek such ways to it;
Expressing love (and therefore to do it) .
And if my love should make me false I would,
For better no false-love than mere falsehood.
How then is love (which others call) more proved
Than mine is? And not merely false-love's truth?
Where love's logic meets between false or not
No arguments have heard but have forgot
That love is truth - and none is love more false
Than proof; So this I swear on life and pulse:
That infinite love's true call expresses
Love is something more than proof professes.

Who Are We Trying To Fool?
Iris
I like to think my heart is just a muscle
A muscle that Ive learned to control
I figured, hell, one harmless midnight tussle
With you would rest quite easy on my soul
Now I see youre a tres, tres goddamn charmer
An actress is taught to be cool
But who am I trying to fool?
Paperman
Id like to toast your firm determination
But human natures got the best of me
Ive never forced myself upon a lady
Iris
Youre about as subtle as artillery
Paperman
Ive been here before and I have to admit
That I cant keep my cool
Who are we trying to fool?
Who are we trying to fool?
Paperman dont look for me to be your savior
Iris no good can come from this behavior
Sheila
This aint no mystery, look at our history
Its just another wild caribbean night
The rum and drums just bring out whats in us
Temptations been here since that very first bite
Who are they tryin to fool?
Who are they tryin to fool?
They should forget it, theyll both regret it
He wants a push, she needs a shove
Hes got a good wife, she hides a dark life
Fuel for combustion ? anger and love
Who are they tryin to fool?
Who are they tryin to fool?
Who are they tryin to fool?
Paperman
Life is for most of us one long postponement
Iris
If we think too much I guess well miss our chance
Paperman
Its our time, our night, our island, not our future
Iris its not the whole tamale, just one dance
Duet
So who are we trying to fool?
Who are we trying to fool?
Lets break all of those goddamn kinja rules

The Daughter Of Iris
Would anyone notice if the She ran away?
They would just turn and look the other way.
The People would ask why had the Daughter of Iris gone?
They would say nay she has not left,
but secretly They knew she had left with dismay.
They, to dignified to admit,
They had watched Her fall away.
They were there watching as she strayed, watching her fall away.
They said to the People nay she is here to stay.
But they knew she fell there and where she now lay.
The Daughter of Iris lies there at an early grave.
The Daughter of Iris is here to stay.

Just Moving On...
IT'S NOT GIVING UP....
WHEN YOU'VE TRIED, SUCCEDED, AND THEN WAS HURT SO BAD
YOU DON'T WANT TO GET UP AGAIN.
IT'S NOT GIVING UP....
WHEN YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR OWN SUFFERING,
IN ORDER TO PREVENT THOSE YOU LOVE FROM SUFFERING.
IT'S NOT GIVING UP....
WHEN YOU STOP SEEKING JUSTICE,
AFTER EXPERIENCING THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS JUSTICE
IN OR OUT OF COURT.
AND IT'S NOT GIVING UP....
WHEN YOU KNOW THAT WHO YOU ARE IS WHAT YOU HAVE,
AND WHAT YOU HAVE IS LOST,
YOU REALIZE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU,
AND THERE'S NO REASON TO STAY AROUND.
SO AFTER LIVING MY LIFE, TRYING MY HARDEST,
AND THEN LOOSING THE WAY I HAVE...
I'M NOT GIVING UP NOW, I'M JUST ENDING MY SORROW.
WHICH FOR ME MEANS, THERE IS NO TOMORROW.
Not Enough
To love somebody naturally
To love somebody faithfully
To love somebody equally
Is not enough
Is not enough
Its not enough
To love somebody secretly, and never touch
To love somebody honestly, and allways trust
To love somebody tenderly, the tender touch
Its not enough
Its not enough
Love hurts you sometimes
Its not so easy to find, no
Searchin everywhere
You turn and swear
Its always been there
To love somebody foolishly, can happen once
To love somebody hopelessly, it hurts so much
To love somebody equally
Is not enough
Is not enough
Its not enough
Love takes a little time
Its no so easy to find, no
Searchin everywhere
You turn and swear
Shes always been there
Standin there...oh
And if it dont come easily
One thing you must believe
You can always have trust in me
Because my heart will allways be, yours honestly
Yeah, love hurts you sometimes
Not so easy to find, no
Searchin everywhere
Then turn and swear
Its always been there
Standing there
Love hurts you sometimes
Not yours, its not mine, no
Loves only to share
Turn and swear
Its everywhere
Standing there
cause its always been there

Of human bondage
When my love and I mutually swear that we both are made of truth
I do believe her, though I know she is fickle; full of frauds and dry lies,
Making me wondering if she might think me some untutored youth,
Unlearnèd in the ways of the vast world's false cunning subtleties.
Thus lying to each other, I cannot tell if she thinks me young,
Although in her mind she knows my days are past their best,
Being an occasional adulterous myself, I credit her false-speaking tongue;
On both sides hypocrisy thrives and thus is simple truth suppressed.
But wherefore I can never say or guess when and if she is unjust?
Consuming fresh young flesh wherefore say not I that I am old?
The thrusting thought that love's best habit is in seeming trust,
And age in love, loves not to have years told.
Therefore I do bed her, and she does bed me,
And in our faults by lies and by false evasive excuses we flattered be.
Beware when being seduced by sweet fresh younger nymph's kind
Love becomes a monster that plays havoc with your mind

The priesthood is a marriage. People often start by falling in love, and they go on for years without realizing that love must change into some other love which is so unlike it that it can hardly be recognized as love at all.

A Thousand Steps To Nowhere
Iris
A thousand steps
Paperman
Obviously
Iris
The jewish cemetery
Paperman
It may come in handy
Iris
Let me get him. your heart
Paperman
Stay here
A thousand steps to nowhere
That is all I see
This night is asking questions
Where and what for me
A thousand miles from henny
Who warned me from the start
I feel foolhardy, I miss sardis
Thought I was so smart
Chorus
Down is up, up is down
Thats just life in kinja town
The natives and the castaways
Thats just life for me these days
Henny
Ive had it with this weather
My skin is pale as bleach
Im heading back to kinja
And stretch out on the beach
My past is in these boxes
All clean and neatly packed
No time for sorrow, I leave tomorrow
Theres no turning back
No turning back, Im island bound
I want to turn from white to brown
Sing and dance to calypso songs
Trade in this mink for a pink sarong
Iris
I really do admire him
And what hes taking on
This island and these crazies
But I fear hell soon be gone
Cant let myself fall for him
A terrible mistake
Hes got henny, Im one too many
This time my heart could break
Chorus
A thousand steps to nowhere
That is all I see
Paperman
My heart is pounding madly
Iris
Mine too, wont let me be
A thousand reasons not to
Paperman
Strange but oh so true
Im behaving
Iris
Youre not past saving
A thing we both should do
Henny
Cause hes happy
Duet
Down is up, up is down
Henny
I understand

Thats just life in kinja town
Henny
Cause hes my man

Flagrant Exhibitionists for M'Lady Ernestine
Deep purple Iris’ rioting
Beside a gently flowing stream.
Neglected yet still flourishing.
Part of a long abandoned dream.
The Gardener grew old and died
before she made her dream come true
Her dream remains unsatisfied.
Yet still the purple Iris Grew.
Though dreamers die their dreams live on
until they are adopted by
By somebody else; Perhaps someone
who’s not prepared to let dreams die.
They flaunt their beauty shamelessly.
Purple clad Imperially.
