Upon seeing the weather on TV, I noticed in your area

Walkways Along The Roads
The pedestrians use the walkways
on either side of the road.
There are no jay walkers in Melbourne.
The young and old as well as the children
are aware of pelican crossing
and have no tension while walking across the road.
They walk their dogs too every day.
For those who walk on air, this city is safe.
‘Give Way' is the policy of all who drive vehicles.
Accidents galore on the roads in India.
Sugar-patients who leave the home before the dawn
won't come back home safe in India.
Rules of the road are wantonly broken.
The children take their grand dads and mums for a walk.
This is not ‘cat walk' or ‘space walk'
requiring special costumes. Benefits of walk speak.
They walk with verve to be virile.
They greet each other saying ‘hello' with a nice smile.
If a girl said, ‘hello' to a boy in India,
he would be chasing her like a hunting dog.
Senior-citizens go out to walk off an illness.
The walkies and the walkers make their physique stronger
by regular walk to live long with pleasure.

The Long Way Home
Tiny squeaks from the snow
As if I’d stepped
upon a mouse
The temperature hovers at zero
A walk sounded nice…
Before I left the house
I gave it thought
For about a moment
Trying to decide…yes or no
But a long look
out the window
made me bundle up and go
The bare limbs and sere winds
Beckoned me deep
into the woods
While the piquant prickle
Of pins and needles
Bade me snugly pull up my hood
I thought only to take
A short brisk
Moonlight walkabout
But the blue of the moon
Highlighting crystals of snow
Gave me pause as to why I was out
I embraced the cold, kissed the wind,
Held the moon… and felt the snow
As my own
I inhaled deeply of the winter
Looked back at my warm abode
And decided instead…to take

Cemetery Dogs
I used to visit
And spend time with my uncle
At the graveyard
Where he patiently abides
His eternal stay.
I then began to visit
Cemeteries whose residents
I was unfamiliar with
In obeisance to the universal dead.
Once, at an old, unkempt graveyard,
Eerie like an old movie scene.
I saw several unfed skinny dogs
Running between huge tombstones.
I meditated on how
I should be as hungry to survive and live
As any other animal on earth.
Gazing at those cemetery dogs
Scavenging for something to eat,
I made a promise to myself:
I will never become a statistic of self-defeat.
