Lust For Life
I look out across this restless sleeper car blind, then to my side.
The face I saw bone-like under that gloomy window light, terrified me.
I know this train is breaking into the future, past the thread of my youth, beyond my
Childhood, my defeats and my worth wile victories.
I look under the lamp, there was an empty seat, and see my brother, happily married!
I look to the emergency box in the front of the car and
I think of my mother, beside me bringing me out of my unconsciousness,
her face like the glint of breaking sunlight through winter ice.
And I sleep for a minute, maybe several then wake to my bed.
What else could I need besides her hair, her shoulders, her craziness, her little nose.
She dropped her head on my shoulder and we saw the sunlight break through dense fog,
wafting through windows like ghostly curtain, a newfangled frontier.
When we got off the train it was morning. The storm glazed over my hometown, under the umbrella of night.
And I looked out to the cemetery and saw all its restless residents dancing? It was beauty
Just then she hit me with powdery snow, it exploder like new year celebration and with it came a drunkenness, a lust for life and we rolled around in peace like everything made sense, and nothing was finished.

Restless
I dont belong to no one
I dont belong at all
Got my face in the corner
Got my back to the wall
And pretty baby Im restless, restless
Restless through and through
Im restless, restless
You look restless too
Im a hair trigger lover
And I cant face up to nothing
Im impatient with the wind
But Im waitin here for somethin
And pretty baby Im restless, restless
Restless through and through
Im restless, restless
You look restless too
Restless sleep, twisted dreams
Moving targets, silent screams
Restless city, restless street
Restless you , restless me
Im a face at the window
Im a black satin sheet
And I cant stay warm
I stay out in the street
And pretty baby Im restless, restless

The Last Train
She was waiting for the last train,
under the lamp light.
The rain drizzled
and the lamp made shadows
on a damp grey wall and as it did
ghostly figures loomed,
spookily, highlighting
the loneliness of the night.
Passing the time, she read posters
‘drink this beer, buy that car,
holiday in Spain.
She shivered, wet, tired,
no umbrella, wearing a
thin plastic Mac.
As her train pulled away,
she snuggled up inside a carriage.
Looking out of its window,
there, against the damp wall
was a tramp, dirty, ragged,
silently swigging Meths,
no coat, no train ticket,
drinking his damnation.

An Italian Sonnet: How spring fell into winter
In my childhood spring blew a vivacious wind;
Soaring onto all life with magnanimous form,
Emancipating the flowers from winter's rough storm.
It flew capriciously and landed upon my skin.
How immaculate the wind of spring blew
Possessing an efficacy which passed with grace.
My soul reverberated it, when all life grew.
Until spring passed; winter's wind stung my face.
My innocence then ventured into winter's cold night:
All sunlight has fallen with the snow,
The life from spring lost their glow.
I became lost fighting in winter's blight.
The years have past in winter's flow
Until i recognized my own inner sunlight.

Ghost Train
We were off to visit the Carnival,
Me, George and Julie Anne,
George was our mother's boyfriend,
(Though in fact, he was a man!)
I was seven and Julie six
And our Mum waved us goodbye,
She said she had some shopping to do
Told Julie not to cry!
George looked up to the heavens with
His fake, long-suffering grin,
For Julie cried a helluva lot,
She couldn't keep it in,
He took us down on the bus that night
There wasn't room to park,
The evening stars were coming out
It was getting kinda dark.
We saw the lights of the Carnival
And Julie's face lit up,
There were lots of rides and coconut shies
And Julie rode in a duck,
While George and I on the rifle range
Picked off some metal bears,
That raced across at the back, stood up,
Then fell to the pellets there.
There were clowns and men with megaphones,
And Chili Dogs with cheese,
And plenty of fluffy candy floss
That Julie stuck to her knees,
There was soda pop at this little shop
And we ate and drank our fill,
While George went up on a flying fox
And he said: ‘Now you be still! '
The evening mist came down at last
And George said we should go,
For Julie Anne was ready for bed
But I said, ‘Can't we go? '
I pointed over the other side
Where a stall was draped in black,
With a skeleton painted on the front
Near a man with a bowler hat.
The sign had said ‘The Ghost Train'
And it looked all creepy, too,
With little cars that rumbled along
With room on them for two,
So George went over and paid the man
Who gave us an awful leer,
Said, ‘Come on kids, here's an empty one,
We can sit you both down here.'
So I sat me down on the outside
Julie Anne was next to me,
The car jerked once, then rumbled off
Through a curtain, I said ‘Wheee! '
We travelled into the darkness
With the odd red flashing light,
A spider brushed against Julie's cheek
And she screamed in a sudden fright.
A skeleton stuck out its bony arm
And it made a horrible sound,
Much like the scream of a banshee
Then a monster spun it around,
Its head revolved on its shoulders
And its teeth were yellow and red,
As a witch on a broomstick flew at us
And sailed right over my head.
I think I must have been more than pale
As the train passed ghosts and lights,
And creepy-crawly horror things
That would give you an instant fright,
We went through a darkened spider den
It was then that I looked around,
No Julie Anne, just an empty seat
As the car went thundering down.
I called and called for Julie Anne
But I couldn't hear her scream,
Only the weird and ghostly sounds
As that train passed by in a dream,
But then it parted the curtain and
I found myself in the air,
With George just standing there startled
Running his fingers through his hair.
‘What have you done with Julie Anne? '
He shook me, made me sick,
‘She disappeared in the tunnel there,
It must be a Ghost Train trick! '
Then George looked round for the barker,
For the man in the bowler hat,
But the man had gone, and the lights went down
And the car sat, still on the track.
‘Your mother will kill me, ' George had cried
As he dived through the curtain there,
I followed him in, I wouldn't be left
With the crazies at the Fair,
We stumbled over the rails, and fought
The cobwebs and the freaks,
With George still calling out ‘Julie Anne! '
In a voice that sounded bleak.
We went right through, saw nobody,
And stood in a sweat outside,
When suddenly there was a rumbling
From a car that was still inside,
The curtain parted, the car came out
With a woman as old as Pan,
She staggered up with a walking stick
And she cried: ‘I'm Julie Anne! '

Came To My Aid
A morning with no sleep
School looming a few hours away
A face of depression realizing the day before me
Today was a struggle
A struggle to wake up
To go to school
To stay awake
To make it home safe
While on the train I slipped into my world
Blackest night lit by only a few street lamps
Snow blankets the houses making them cozy and snug
In the middle of a lane scanning the scene in front of me
A face appears in the darkness
A face belonging to a woman
Snow blustered and flew between us
The woman was too far to see clearly as the snow swirled around us
She wore white in a form of a ball room gown
And moved as if not connected to the world
Her grace and unsurpassed beauty made me quake and shiver
First came voice calling my name
Then her arms outstretched and searching for my embrace
A face with a large smile and blue eyes sparkling their star pattern
Her hair in long curls brushing her shoulders
Atop which sat a tiara
My girl
The girl
The only girl
Was there in my world
Rushing to her
Running into her embrace and holding her in mine
Gripping tightly as the snow slowed and flowed lazily in the air
Time slowed to let us be together for longer
I took her hand in mine and bowed
“May I have this dance” i asked
Curtsying and saying, “I’d be delighted”
Our hands intertwined
And her hand on my shoulder, mine on her waist
We began to twist and turn as music softly played in the night
Her smiling face was the last I saw
The train shook to a sudden stop
Here I was, home at last
Checking my phone I saw the time
And that my girl called me
She thought of me too as I slept
“Don’t worry beautiful” I whispered
“I’m home”

Breaking The Law
There I was completely wasting, out of work and down
All inside its so frustrating as I drift from town to town
Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die
So I might as well begin to put some action in my life
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
So much for the golden future, I cant even start
Ive had every promise broken, theres anger in my heart
You dont know what its like, you dont have a clue
If you did youd find yourselves doing the same thing too
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
You dont know what its like
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law, breaking the law
Breaking the law

Sunlight
I can’t wait for tomorrow
To see a brand new day
I think about the morning
And it warms my heart
The morning sunlight
That brings me hope
The sunlight
That keeps me to smile
Oh sunlight… don’t you know
How much joy you had brought to me?
I go dance with the trees
To the tune of gasping leaves
Sunlight, Oh sunlight
Show me the way
For a brighter day
Shine on me like a guiding light
Bring me the love
That I can feel deep inside of me
Come to me
And light my window pane
For today, you are my angel
Oh sunlight, my sunlight
Stay close to me
As I feel your power
That embraces me
For today and tomorrow
You’ll be there beside me
Oh sunlight….
You’re my laughter, my friend
My life, my joy
Oh sunlight….! ! !

Sunlight
I watch the world go by in silence
Deep in the night in silence
Time going by so slow
I think about the morning
And it warns my heart
Because tonight I'm going back to the one I love
And by tomorrow with the dawn I'll be there
And he'll be beside me
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Bring me the love I'll need to guide me
Shining deep inside of me
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Show me the way
I look at the stars and I pray for morning
Counting the hours till morning
Thinking about his smile
His sweet smile
I'm standing on the promise of a brand new day
I couldn't face another night staying all alone
I know he needs me just as much as I need him
So, baby, I'm coming home
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Bring me the love I'll need to guide me
Shining deep inside of me
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Show me the way
Ooh ohhhhh, yeah
And when I hold him
I won't let him let me go, no no no
No more running far and wide
I'm gonna stay right by his side
He's my laughter, my lover, my life
He's my sunlight
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Show me the way to a brighter day
Oh, sunlight, oh, sunlight
Bring me the love I'll need to guide me
Shining deep inside of me
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Show me the way to a brighter day
Oh, sunlight, oh, sunlight
Bring me the love I'll need to guide me
Shining deep inside of me
Sunlight, oh, sunlight
Show me the way...
To a brighter day
Ooohhhhh

Church Sitting
You sat with Jane
in her father's church
the bright morning sun
piercing high windows
pushing colours on flagstone floors
the silence caressed you
her nearness warmed
her ankle socks and sandals
had an innocence of strawberries
her flowered summer dress
rode up to her thighs as she sat
her hands resting on her knees
can you feel that breeze?
she said
cooling isn't it
you sensed it as she spoke
yes I can
you replied
your eyes moved along her thighs
then lifted to her face
as partial sunlight
seemed to show
grace there on skin
and dark black hair
and you watched her lips move
as she spoke and said
I was christened here
and maybe I'll be wed here too
to whom?
you asked
and she looked at you
a thirteen year old boy
then looked away
some birdsong from outside
had caught her ear
and she turned her head
and you gazed
at her neck and jaw
and saw her beauty
in a way you had not before
sunlight catching her
as it had coloured patterns
on flagstone floor
you wanted to reach
and touch her arm
her skin and sense
her pulse of life
that pumped within.

This Train Revised
Its a fish white belly
A lump in the throat
Razor on the wire
Skin and bone
Piss and blood
In a railroad car
100 people
Gypsies queers
And davids star
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory
This train
Measure the bones
Count the face
Pull out the teeth
Do you belong
To the human race
Doctor doctor
Are you unkind
Do you shock the monkeys
Cover our eyes
With clear blue skies
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory now
This train
Here is a dancer
Who has no legs
Here is a teacher
Who has no face
Here is a healer
Who has no hands
Here is a runner
Who has no feet
Here is a thinker
Who has no head
Here is a builder
Who has no back
Here is a writer
Who has no voice
These are the questions
These are the answers
Stacked like wood
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory
This train is bound for glory now
This train
This train is bound for glory
This train gonna carry my mother
This train is bound for glory
This train gonna carry my father
This train is bound for glory now
This train gonna carry my sister
This train
This train gonna carry my brother
(here is a teacher)
[stacked like wood]
This train gonna carry my sister
(here is a healer)
[stacked like wood]
This train gonna carry my brother
(this is a builder)
This train gonna carry my sister
[gypsies queers and davids star]
This train is
This train is bound for glory
These are the questions
Stacked like wood
These are the answers
Here is potential gone for good

Song Of The Evergreens
Listen to the briskly whistling winter evergreen
Whispering through the frozen morning light
And tell me whats to come
Saying my time is near
Never fear
I close each year
Im winter
Reminding me to trade my t-shirts for my woven wools
Trade my sandals for my skis
Whispered warnings in the wind
Saying soon come the dancing snowflakes
Theyre kissing every tree
Theyre kissing you and me
Please hurry
Falling
Dazzling dancing diamonds from the sky
Prisms
Rainbow sparkled flurries in our eyes
Whipping across the frozen crystal meadow
Pond of ice
Race the snow
Well build a warming fire there
And cuddle close and wine and dine
The setting sun
The morning light will find us high
Shooting down the glistening mountain side
Screaming through the whispering pines
The freedom of each day
Will cleanse our minds
I can hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
I can hardly hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow

Land Of Hope & Dreams
Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunders rolling down the tracks
Dont know where youre goin
Sky is turnin black
Well darlin if youre weary
Lay your head upon my chest
Well take what we can carry
And well leave behind the rest
Big wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
Well I will provide for you
Ya and I will stand by your side
Youll need a good companion darlin
For this part of the ride
Ya leave behind your sorrows
Ya this day at last
Tomorrow theyll be sunny skies
And all this darkness past
Big wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This train
Carries whores and gamblers
This train
Carries midnight ramblers
This train
Carries broken hearted
This train
Carries souls departed
This train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This train
Faith will be rewarded
This train
Carries fools and kings
This train
Hear the big wheels singing
This train
Bells of freedom ringing

Nothing good ever lasts...
To be able to remain just still and enjoy beauty without trying to edit it or change it; reveals the world's true beauty. I remember walking quietly once, one very hot spring morning by the railway through the wild orchards in Dogwoods, Knutsford. Resting there on a storm drain-grid, I was just catching my breath when minutes later. I saw a baby rabbit poke its head out of a rabbit hole in the brambles it was 2ft in front of me. It was then he or she was pushed outside by their sisters or brothers.
They rolled around in front me and were toy fighting till the 11.20am Chester train went on by,
The only pity for me was the train was on time, came by so fast… nothing good ever lasts.

(Hurt Poem) A Repetitive Break Down
I was breaking down when I got with you
I was breaking down when I left you
I am breaking down just thinking about you.
Curing the world one person at a time.
In the body souls and minds.
My first true love.
Absence from god above.
A sickness it has become.
Constantly being undone.
When push comes to shove.
I just couldn't hurt you enough.
The wounds left me even more numb.
I was breaking down when I got with you
I was breaking down when I left you
I am breaking down just thinking about you.
Every fight was our last.
Surrendering to my past.
In it lives a silent kingdom.
Of knights king and queens.
Romance with a wicked dance.
That still haunts me.
I'm not a blind man for I can see.
The fire still burns.
But the light is just never the same.
My heart has been forever stained.
My head urns to just be empty.
I was breaking down when I got with you
I was breaking down when I left you
I am breaking down just thinking about you.
You completed me as only the one could.
As only one should.
To stubborn to admit I was ever wrong.
I was never wrong.
Drowning under my own shallow ego
Suffocating, the plastic wraps right over my head.
Oh it's killing, its stealing, oh its taking the air away from me.
I just need to breath.
I'm so sorry that I have this disease.
Crucified with her eyes.
Somebody dig the hole and just bury me.
I was breaking down when I got with you
I was breaking down when I left you
I am breaking down just thinking about you.

Train Of Gold
I saw her there from across the street, she was dressed in black
And when she moved she moved to a beat, like a cadillac
She rode a train, train train train, a train of gold
She was a woman of suspicious ways, never saw daylight
And in her room she sat and passed the days
And shed creep out at night
She rode a train, train train train, a train of gold
Chorus: train of gold, train of gold
It took me so long to find out I was wrong
Now I wait for her in the night
Looked through a window saw a velvet sky, a shade of green
A violin was playing soft and sweet, like it was a dream
She rode a train, train train train, a train of gold
Train of gold, train of gold
It took me so long to find out I was wrong
Now I wait for her in the night
Train of gold, train of gold
I dont believe her, it just couldnt be her
I cant get it out of my mind

Breaking Point
Is that the wind
On your face?
Are you sure youre alone?
Are you sure youre alone?
Feel the chill
Of an empty space
Are you sure youre alone?
Are you sure youre alone?
In the middle of the night
Is that your heart you hear
Or a train to nowhere
That pounding in your ear?
Have you reached your breaking point?
Have you reached your breaking point tonight?
Only when youre sleeping can you drift away
No one can hurt you
Listen to the secret of your dreams
Though you want to sleep forever
Still you must return
Hands of ice
Down your spine
Are you sure youre alone?
Are you sure youre alone?
Feel the grip
Of a clinging vine
Are you sure youre alone?
Are you sure youre alone?
In the middle of the night
Is that your voice I hear?
Or the wind thats calling
Back across the years?
Have you reached your breaking point?
Have you reached your breaking point tonight?

In Memoriam: Anna Akhmatova, poet
Last Spring I stood
in front of the bronze statue
they’ve put up in your honour
on the banks of the Neva
not far from the prison's red wall
just as, half in jest, you requested it,
never expecting this...
the thaw had just started
and a white snow crystal, already half transparent,
melted in the corner of your bronze eye
as if it were a tear
I watched it slide down Spring's warming bronze,
down past your name on the base,
across the trodden snow of the pavement,
into the Neva whose memory is time itself,
and as it joined the river's flow of breaking, creaking ice and snow
the sunlight caught it, briefly.
The next day
I walked to your dacha in the woods
as the first light rain of Spring
gently washed the birch saplings
and the brown leaves of last autumn now revealed
made a silent carpet for my feet;
and the pale sunlight
caught a raindrop, briefly.
In some future Spring
a poet’s tears fall as gentle rain.

Silent Thief
Unaware and silently you had stolen my heart,
When was it? In the naked light of day or the pitch darkness of night?
And ever since than, you have taken away my peace,
and made it restless, restless..
Dear, I have now lost my very own pride,
Bend me on my knees and I beg you to stay always on my side.

Another Day
Notes:
Jt on sony.com: the songs been waiting for a verse since 1985 when I first put it down at air studios, montserrat. frank was at the console then too.
Wake up suzy
Put your shoes on
Walk with me into this light
Finally this morning
Im feeling whole again
It was a hell of a night
Just to be with you by my side
Just to have you near in my sight
Just to walk a while in this light
Just to know that life goes on
Wake up suzy
Put your shoes on
Walk with me into this light
Another night has gone
Life goes on
Another dawn is breaking
Turn and face the sun
One by one
The world outside is waking
Morning light has driven away
All the shadows that hide your way
And night has given away
To the promise of another day
Another day
Another chance that we may
Finally find our way
Another day
The sun has begun
To melt all our fears away
Another day
Another day
Oh wake up suzy
Put your shoes on
Walk with me into this light
