Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man

It was our third time in New York
It was your fourth time in New York
We were fifth and sixth on the bill
We talk a little about our bands talk a little of our future plans
It's not like we were best friends

That number scheme comes back to me
In times beyond our heartbeat

We hung around til the final band
Called 'Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man'
You yelled in my ear this music speaks to me
They launched into 'Lonely From Rock n Roll'
Followed by 'They Checked Out an Hour Ago'
Closing with 'All Desires Turn Concrete'

Those melodies come back to me
At times beyond our heartbeat

I guess I'm too slow yes I'm too

The Heart Of Rock & Roll

New york, new york, is everything they say
And no place that Id rather be
Where else can you do a half a million things
All at a quarter to three
When they palt their music, ooh that modern music

Neon lights and the pretty pretty girls
All dressed so scantily

Talk About The Good Times

(words & music by jerry reed hubbard)
Well I remember when I was as children
The time the people used to treat the neighbor like a fellow man
And all their singin and big prayer meetins
When a man was proud to walk up and shake his neighbors hand
Oh you talk about the good times,
Talk about the good times
Oh if you ever needed help a friend was there
Some good neighbor
Help lift your burden
Mmm, and the simple joys of life a friend would share
Times are harder and the people are changin
Now most folks couldnt tell you who their neighbors are
All their guns are loaded, the front doors are bolted
Aint this ol world takin hate and fear just a little too far
Oh you talk about the good times,
Talk about the good times
I wish I could go back to the days Im speakin of
When a friend would meet you
And a smile would greet you
What this ol world needs now is a little old fashioned love
My granddaddy God rest his soul now
Well we had a big long talk together the day he died
Said son this world is full of hate and venom
An I cant wait to leave this ol place and rest on the other side
Oh you talk about the good times, talk about the good times
Talk about the good times
Im gonna see all the friends I knew in the good ol days
Well have a big hand shakin
An sit and talk together
Sit down by the river jordan and sing our blues away
Oh you talk about the good times, talk about the good times
Talk about the good times
Im gonna see all the friends I knew in the good ol days
Well have a big hand shakin
An sit and talk together
Sit down by the river jordan and sing our blues away
Oh you talk about the good times, talk about the good times
Talk about the good times
Im gonna see all the friends I knew in the good ol days

Class Of 55

Chips moman/bobby emmons
Sittin around minding my business when in walked an old friend
Such a sight for sore eyes I hadnt seen him since I dont know when
We talked about the crazy things we used to do
And talk loud around about old lovers talk out around to you
And Id like to hold a reunion for the clas of 55
Id like to see my old friends and how many have survived
Get a rock and roll band and do some dancin
Talk about the good times and all of the chances we blew
What would you do if you knew you never left my heart
What would you do if you knew that youre still tearing me apart
How would you feel if you knew my love for you is still alive
Livin in my heart since the class of 55
Well get a rock and roll band and do some dancin
Talk about the good times and all of the chances we blew
What would you do if you knew you never left my heart
What would you do if you knew that youre still tearing me apart
How would you feel if you knew my love for you is still alive
Livin in my heart since the class of 55
Lets get a rock and roll band and do us some dancin
Talk about the good times and all of the chances we blew
And my losing you

A Heart In New York

New york
To your tall skyline I come
Flying in from london
To your door
New york
Lookin down on central park
Where they say you should not wander
After dark
New york
Like a scene from all those movies
But youre real enough to me
But theres a heart
A heart that lives in new york
A heart in new york
A rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in new york
Love in her eye
An open door and a friend for the night
New york
You got money on your mind
And my words dont make a dimes
Worth a difference
So heres to you new york
New york
Now my plane is touching down

Would I Marry You? In A Heartbeat!

Inner heartbeat getting fonder!
Inner heartbeat getting sweet!
Inner heartbeat makes me ponder:
So how come life's incomplete?
Inner heartbeat moving faster!
Inner heartbeat moving strong!
Inner heartbeat prods its master...
So how come the days seem long?
Inner heartbeat stirring new love!
Inner heartbeat stirring sighs!
Inner heartbeat like a warm glove!
So how come this feels so nice?
Inner heartbeat palpitating!
Inner heartbeat passion-filled!
Inner heartbeat can't stand waiting!
So how come that it's so thrilled?
Inner heartbeat seeks its solace...
Inner heartbeat seeks its treat!
Inner heartbeat seeks your first kiss!
That's true love... in a heartbeat...

New York City

Standing on the corner
Just me and yoko ono
We was waiting for jerry to land
Up come a man with a guitar in his hand
Singing, have a marijuana if you can
His name was david peel
And we found that he was real
He sang, the pope smokes dope every day
Up come a policeman shoved us up the street
Singing, power to the people today!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well down to maxs kansas city
Got down the nitty gritty
With the elephants memory band
Laid something down
As the news spread around
About the plastic ono elephants memory band!
And we played some funky boogie
And laid some tutti frutti
Singing, long tall sallys a man.
Up come a preacherman trying to be a teacher
Singing, gods a red herring in drag!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well we did the staten island ferry
Making movies for the telly
Played the fillmore and apollo for freedom
Tried to shake our image
Just a cycling through the village
But found that we had left it back in london
Well nobody came to bug us
Hustle us or shove us
So we decided to make it our home
If the man wants to shove us out
We gonna jump and shout
The statue of liberty said, come!

Cant Wait

Ive been on this road a long time
Ive been travellin for days
But it seems Im getting nowhere
I just cant find my way
Ive been following directions
But they must be out of date
And I cant, and I cant, and I cant, no I cant
Decide which road to take
See Ive got to find my baby
Cause we need to work things out
Ive got to see that woman
I cannot do without her!
You know I cant wait, cant wait another moment
I cant wait, I cant wait another heartbeat
No I cant wait, cant wait another moment
I couldnt wait another heartbeat
I cant wait until midnight
And the nights go on forever
These days I get no sleep
And I miss her more than ever
Inside where love runs deep
Oh I know Im going to find her
Cause Im following this star
And I cant, and I cant, no I cant turn back
Oh lord, Ive come so far
And Ill know shell whisper in my ear
bout all the things Ive missed
Shes got that way about her now
I never could resist
And now I cant wait, cant wait another moment
No I cant wait, I cant wait another heartbeat
I cant wait, cant wait another moment
I couldnt wait another heartbeat
I cant wait until midnight
No I cant wait
I cant wait another moment
I couldnt wait another heartbeat
I cant wait until the midnight
Now I cant wait
No no no cant wait
No no no
Cant wait
No no no
Cant wait

Sharpening My Axe

back to the grind wheel....
sharpening my axe for another week;
and listening, for the sound

of my own heartbeat
within the heartbeat of the universe,
in the heartbeat of the stranger,
in the heartbeat of my enemy....

i have slept with despair,
with suffering and need....
have wallowed in my own mistakes.
have been lied to, used, and abused....

but at times, to be honest with myself,
i have lied to and abused others
let me move forward with honest hope,
with firm dedication to compassion....

let my every word be a tool,
my thoughts and prayers a helping hand...
let me find my life in others,
and others find solace in me!

Rock 'N' Roll Band

If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
We'd travel all over the land.
We'd play and we'd sing and wear spangly things.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
And we were up there on the stand,
The people would here us and love us and cheer us.
Hurray for that rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
Then we'd have a million fans.
We'd giggle and laugh and sign autographs,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
The people would all kiss our hands.
We'd be millionaires and have extra long hair,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
But we ain't no rock 'n' roll band,
We're just seven kids in the sand.
With homemade guitars and pails and jars
And drums of potato chip cans.
Just seven kids in the sand.
Talk'n and waven' our hands.
And dreamin' and thinkin' oh wouldn't it be grand,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

America's Heartbeat

Ever growing in pride,
Knowing what it takes
To stand strong when tried.
America’s heartbeat remains.

Freedom still comes at a price,
A soldier lost his life today.
Hearts are low, but spirits high.
America’s heartbeat is gain.

She lifts high her head
With the hope of making things right.
Strongly and reverently lead,
America’s heartbeat ever resides.

She breathes in freedom
And speaks of hope for the future.
Her song longs to be sung,
America’s heartbeat desires to be pure.

Feeling the pangs
Of her labor and will,
She elects her fame.
America’s heartbeat, strong and still.

She’s known from which she’s named,
For instilled in her is integrity and justice.
Red, white and blue run through her veins,
America’s heartbeat is in every dream and wish.

New York Groove

Many years since I was here, on the street I was passin my time away
To the left and to the right, buildings towering to the sky
Its outta sight in the dead of night
Here I am, and in this city, with a fistful of dollars
And baby, youd better believe
Chorus:
Im back, back in the new york groove
Im back, back in the new york groove
Im back, back in the new york groove
Back in the new york groove, in the new york groove
In the back of my cadillac
A wicked lady, sittin by my side, sayin where are we?
Stop at third and forty-three, exit to the night
Its gonna be ecstacy, this place was meant for me
Feels so good tonight, who cares about tomorrow
So baby, youd better believe
Chorus
Im back, back in the new york groove (repeats out)

Rock And Roll Music

Just let me hear some of that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a back beat, you can't lost it,
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
I've got no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until they sound just like a symphony
That's why i go for that that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a back beat, you can't lost it,
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
I took my loved one over 'cross the tracks
So she can hear my man awail a sax
I must admit they have a rockin' band
Man, they were goin' like a hurrican'
That's why i go for that that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a back beat, you can't lost it,
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
Way down south they gave a jubilee
The jokey folks they had a jamboree
They're drinkin' home brew from a water cup
The folks dancin' got all shook up
And started playin' that that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a back beat, you can't lost it,
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
Don't care to hear 'em play a tango
I'm in the mood to gear a mambo
It's way to early for a congo
So keep a rockin' that piano
So i can gear some of that
Rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a back beat, you can't lost it,

New York City

You called me last night on the telephone
And I was glad to hear from you cause I was all alone
You said, its snowing, its snowing! god, I hate this weather.
Now I walk through blizzards just to get us back together
We met in the springtime at a rock-and-roll show
It was on the bowery when it was time to go
We kissed on the subway in the middle of the night
I held your hand, you held mine, it was the best night of my life.
cause everyones your friend in new york city
And everything looks beautiful when youre young and pretty
The streets are paved with diamonds and theres just so much to see
But the best thing about new york city is you and me
Statue of liberty, staten island ferry, co-op city, katzs and tiffanys*
Central park, brooklyn bridge, the empire state where dylan lived**
Coney island and times square, rockefeller center
Wish I was there
You wrote me a letter just the other day
Said, springtime is coming soon so why dont you come to stay.
I packed my stuff, got on the bus, I cant believe its true
Im three days from new york city and Im three days from you
cause everyones my friend in new york city
And everything looks beautiful when youre young and pretty
The streets are paved with diamonds and theres just so much to see

Uh, uh, uh.
Well, new york, yeh,
Alright!
Oh, new york city!
Back in new york city!
Yeah, new york city!
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Ass city!
Down in the village,
Yeah, what a city!
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Yeah, rock on!
Ow! uh!
Yeah!
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Hey! what a bad, bad city!
Bad-ass city!
Bad-ass city!
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Hey, city! city!

Recorded live at the madison square garden, new york, n.y. 30 august 1972
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Power to the people!
Two, three, four!
Standing on the corner, just me and yoko ono,
We was waiting for her hour to land,
Up come a man with a guitar in his hand,
Have marijuana if you can.
Well, his name was david peel
And we found that he was real,
The pope smokes dope evry day.
Up come the police, shoved us off the street,
Singing, power to the people today!
New york city!
Madison square garden!
Hey!
Whats happenin, man?
Went back to kansas city, laid down the nitty gritty
With the elephants memory band.
Laid something down as the news spread around
About the plastic ono elephants memory band.
Played some tutti frutti and played some funky boogie,
Long tall sallys a man!
Up come the preacherman, tryin to be a teacher,
Singing, gods a red herring in drag!
New york city!
New york city!
New york city!
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Hey!
Ow!
Ooh!
Well, new york city, babe!
New york!
New york city!
Yeah, new york city!
Down in the village!
New york city!
Come on, hit it!
Ah, what a bad ass city!
Yeah!
Roll over!

The Heart Beat

the heartbeat is the snare
and the drum beat within the flare
it is percussioned on the strings
of the sensory nerves, sometimes it rings
like a bell
to tell
the actor when the body cell
and muscles rebel
against a situation

the heartbeat is the music
that diffuses from within
correlatively, the heart
elevates the tempo of the music
thus, the heartbeat propels the music of the soul
condenses the rhythm and maintains the tempo

when confronted by fright
the heart becomes the stimuli
to which we respond to fright
faster like lightning; the heartbeat
such vibrations and continuous music
is the rave, reggae if not the rock n' roll of the heart

be it a dream that frightens or conscious
be it at funeral or night crawling
be it the 'karma sutra' or 'my cousin vinny'
be it at election polls or graduation ceremonies
be it wherever, howsoever
the heartbeat flexibly responds

but when we soulfully relaxed
the music from the heart
beats and can be heard as if from afar
the beat can even not be felt in dakar
nor can it be in the car
but within the possessor of thy heart
such is the heartbeat
the one complex music genre.
