The Old Man
An old man sat beneath a tree
Alone;
So still was he
That, if he had been carved in stone,
He could not be
More quiet or more cold:
He was an ancient man
More than
A thousand ages old.

See You On The Other Side
Voices, a thousand, thousand voices
Whispering, the time has passed for choices
Golden days are passing over, yeah
I cant seem to see you baby
Although my eyes are open wide
But I know Ill see you once more
When I see you, Ill see you on the other side
Yes, Ill see you, Ill see you on the other side
Leaving, I hate to see you cry
Grieving, I hate to say goodbye
Dust and ash forever, yeah
Though I know we mus be parted
As sure as stars are in the sky
Im gonna see when it comes to glory
And Ill see you, Ill see you on the other side
Yes Ill see you, Ill see you on the other side
Never thought Id feel like this
Strange to be alone, yeah
But well be together
Carved in stone, carved in stone, carved in stone
Hold me, hold me thight, Im falling
Far away. distant voices calling
Im so cold. I need you darling, yeah
I was down, but now Im flying
Straight across the great divide
I know youre crying, but Ill stop you crying
When I see you, I see you on the other side
Yes. Ill see you. see you on the othe side
Im gonna see you. see you on the other side
God knows Ill see you, see you on the other side, yeah
Ill see you. see you on the othe side
Im gonna see you. see you on the other side
God knows Ill see you, see you on the other side, yeah
I wanna see you, yeah, yeah, yeah, see you on the other side
God knows Ill see you, see you on the other side, yeah
Im gonna see you. see you on the other side

Son (Liam)
Quiet tenderness
Tranquil soul
Stone still
Stone thought
A library of thought in his
Gentle eyes
Beneath an ocean roils
Beneath an epic is forged
Beneath the hero wanders
Waits with quiet masks
And worlds to conquer

A Stone Griffin
a stone griffin
stern of heart
untouched
by exultant love
sits upon high
sits upon eves
in stone judgment
in heart of stone
face carved
in stone
emotionless
heartless
looking down
all passes
beneath sight
beneath grasp
look up
bodies inflamed
with emotions
passionate
we might miss
the light,
shining forth
from stars,
if we
do not,
raise
our heads,
to greater
expectations
emboldened
stellar blaze

The Love Tree
I see a huge climbing tree
with love inscribed on wood,
carved initials in a heart
where true love surely stood.
A couple sat beneath the tree
despite the rainy weather,
hugs and kisses, holding hands,
spending time together.
The sweethearts adorned the tree
with a promise that is true,
proof that love endures the ages
after all that they went through.
Time spent there reminiscing
of good times now in the past,
they would return to the tree
open to feelings that would last.
Years went by, memories faded
and the tree soon stood alone,
the initials seen within a heart
was a treasure to be known.
The tree held perfect meaning
after the carvers passed away,
Left behind are the engravings
of the love they felt that day.

Cold Sweat
(m&l - john sykes/phill lynott)
I put my money in the suitcase
And headed for the big race
I felt a chill on my backbone
As I hung up the telephone
Stone cold sober and stone cold sweat
Running down the back of my neck
To lose means trouble, to win pays double
And I got me a heavy bet
Cold, cold sweat
They say chances on the outside
Are looking very slim
Ive been so lucky on the inside
I feel Im going to win
Stone cold sober and stone cold sweat
Running down the back of my neck
Take a little money, theres nothing left to lose
And I got me a heavy bet
Cold, cold sweat
Ive got me a whole months wages
I havent seen that much in ages
I might spend it in stages
And move out to las vegas
Stone cold sober and stone cold sweat
Running down the back of my neck
To lose means trouble, to win means double
And I got me a heavy bet
Cold, cold sweat
I put my money in the suitcase
They say chances on the outside
I got a whole months wages
Stone cold sober and stone cold sweat
Stone cold crazy
Place another bet

A Stone Sits A Stone
Long oft towards
Where the sun light comes
Under the cover by an old cedar tree
Rest a stone upon a stone
There in a side of a hill
In wavering woods
Waters flow to the valley floor
How you sit
And tended your thoughts
Still, and motionless
Quiet enough to blend with the stone
Listen to the green woods
Beneath the freshing winds
Grows strong sorrow sleeps
Swarms of living life
And passion grows hungry
To the task of lovers lips

Ancient Wisdom Based Upon Bitter Truth
ancient wisdom applied is often based
upon bitter truth law of hard knocks
wisdom over centuries hard learned
ancient lore of origin geographic locations
centuries-old stand carved stone tablets
hundreds of tsunami warning stone markers
warnings some 600 years old age dot coastlines
love warnings in Japanese tested stone markers
wisdom carved warnings whisper beware waves
collective earthquake tsunami warning systems
survival warning system for all who will listen
over centuries survival formula Japanese proven
long coasts along Japanese major fault lines
are repeated target of earthquakes tsunamis
'If an earthquake comes, beware of tsunamis'
flee immediately after danger earthquakes
in some places survival is a matter of minutes
people who tarried perished did not escape

Ringfinger
Well youve got me working so heard lately.
Working my hands until they bleed.
If I was twice the man I could be.
Id still be half of what you need
Still you lead me and I follow
Anything you ask you know Ill do.
But this one act of consecration is what I ask of you
Ringfinger.
Promise carved in stone.
Deeper than the sea.
Ringfinger.
Sever flesh and bone
And offer it to me.
You just left me nailed here.
Hanging like jesus on the cross.
Ill be dying for your sins.
And aiding to the cause.
Ringfinger.
Promise carved in stone.
Deeper than the sea.
Ringfinger.
Sever flesh and bone
And offer it to me.
Wrap my eyes in bandages.
Confessions I see through.
I get everything I want.
When I get part of you.
Ringfinger.
Promise carved in stone.
Deeper than the sea.
Ringfinger.
Sever flesh and bone
And offer it to me.
Ringfinger.
Promise carved in stone.
Deeper than the sea.
Ringfinger.
Devils flesh and bone
Do something for me.

Beneath The Skin
Beneath the Skin a caustic red river
Beneath the Skin corrosive abuser
Beneath the Skin genetic in rupture
Beneath the Skin all cold and hungered
Beneath the Skin a still born forgiveness
Beneath the Skin cell transfer in whispers
Beneath the Skin a lover cries murder
Beneath the Skin all cold and hungered
Beneath the Skin i wasted this moment
Beneath the Skin old undiscovered
Beneath the Skin another lies ruptured
Beneath the Skin all cold and hungered

Shadows Of Wolves
we made an agreement
it was carved in stone to your mind
i agree there must be no changes
without prior notice
but you change it a bit
and so i am canceling the whole of it
that is what it is
carved in stone, put a change
the slightest one
can break the whole of that stone
a little change in temperature
or pressure as the case maybe
can make this world crack
without prior notice
now don't cry foul
for both of us prior to that
have assumed the shadows
of the wolves.

Oh That Tree
Maybe if you would have seen
Our initals carved in the tree,
You might have fallen in love with me
When we were so very young
For I wanted the world to know
How I felt about you
Now after thirty years,
i went back to that tree
To see if I could still see
If those words could be seen.
Looking there to my surpise,
Two words carved right next to mine
I KNOW!

Drift Away
(rod stewart, steve cropper, 1975/1976)
Never get to bed before sunup,
Alway get caught in the rain;
Sometimes I might get in trouble,
Never was one to complain.
Now gentleman, you must agree
Aint it worth it when youre out on cloud thirty-three
To be stone cold sober again,
Down in the alley again,
Stone cold sober again.
Never found a dime in a gutter,
Always get my best friends drunk.
If the presdent tries to call me,
Say rodney, come on over for lunch;
Id say, gentlemen, exuse me please
But Im busy with my buddies up on cloud thirty-three.
Yeah, stone cold sober again,
Down in the alley again,
Stone cold sober again.
Sunday is a drag, so forget it,
Monday you can make up for that;
Tuesday, take a taste for dinner,
If youre all right spend it in bed.
But on thursday prepare for your weekend
And let friday disappear into saturday mornin
When youre stone cold sober again,
Down in the alley again,
Stone cold sober again.
Stone cold sober again,
Down in the alley again,
Stone cold sober again.
I dont mind stone cold sober again,
Down in the alley again,
Stone cold sober again.

Last Descending Overtones
With each descending step I hear the beat
of sacrificial chants of those who know.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
The pungent smell is damp and bittersweet.
Within these halls the music seems to flow,
with each descending step I hear the beat.
The altar room is secret and discrete,
with eerie chants that truly seem to grow.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
Author notes -
Villanelle:
A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme:
aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines) .
Form Resource: shadowpoetry.com
My wrists are bound, a feeling of defeat,
a severed heart to feed the gods libido.
With each descending step I hear the beat.
My time has come this act will not repeat,
I hear the chants and see the lamps aglow.
The stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.
My heart becomes the sacrificial meat
as now my life approaches its crescendo.
With each descending step I hear the beat,
the stone is cold and grey beneath my feet.

The Crucifix
"Into thy hands I commend my spirit."
[This very ancient crucifix is sculptured on the exterior wall of the Abbey Church of Romsey. Its characteristic is a hand reaching down from the clouds, over the cross. It is said to be unique.]
In a quiet nook it standeth,
Which careless eyes might miss,
That image of Thy sorrow,
And fountain of our bliss.
Low within reach it standeth,
Close to the old church, door,
And by the common pathway,
Appealing evermore.
Low on the wall, that never
The dimmest eyes may miss,
And the lips of the little children
May reach the feet to kiss.
That humble, simple image,
Wrought by the hands of old;
Good hands! that so many ages
Helpless have grown and cold.
That blessed, sacred image
Born of the heart of old
That through the endless ages
Shall nevermore grow cold.
In the common stone rude-carven,
By no great artist's touch;
Yet never the wide world over
Will you find another such.
You may search the wide world over
From freezing to burning zone,
You will never find another
Quite like this only one.
Deep, deep the nails are driven
In the hands they crucified -
So deep, the nails you see not,
But only the arms stretched wide.
And over the head, so weary,
Bowing itself to die,
An open hand down-reaching
Forth from the clouded sky.
The torturers' hands have finished;
His hands are nailèd fast;
"Into thy hands my spirit -
Father, thy hands!" - at last.
. . . . . . .
Lord, ere thou call our spirits
Within thy hands to be,
Give us some such dear likeness
To leave behind of thee.
Hid in some quiet corner,
Cut in the common stone,
Poor, yet our best, we pray thee,
Our best, and our very own.
. . . . . . .
Dear Lord, our hearts grow bolder;
We dare to ask much more,
Knowing the more we ask thee,
Thou art hut pleased the more.
Give us to be that image
By the common paths like this:
Low, where the dimmest vision,
The features need not miss;
Low, where the lips of the children
May reach to cling and kiss.
Where the nails to the cross which fix us,
So deep in the wounds may hide,
That men see no more the torture,
But only the arms stretched wide.
A humble, simple image,
Cut in the common stone;
Like thee, yet like no other,
Because thy very own.

Stone Cold
Every night I have the same old dream
bout you and me and whats in between
So many changes, so many lies
Try to run, try to hide
>from everything that I feel inside
But I cant escape you or your frozen eyes...
Searching in the darkness
Fading out of sight
Love was here and gone like a thief in the night...
Stone cold...
And I thought I knew you so well
Stone cold
Cant break away from your spell
Another dark and empty night
If I was wrong I wanna make it right
But you are so distant, so far away
Your words like ice fall on the ground
Breaking the silence without a sound
Oh familiar strangers with nothing to say
Searching in the darkness
Fading out of sight
Love was here and gone like a thief in the night...
Stone cold...
And I thought I knew you so well...
Stone cold
Cant break away from your spell...
You leave me stone cold
Searching in the darkness
Fading out of sight
Love was here and gone like a thief in the night...
Stone cold...
And I thought I knew you so well
Stone cold
Cant break away from your spell
Youre stone cold...yeah
I cant break away from your spell
Stone cold...baby
I thought I knew you so well
Youre stone cold...ice cold
Cant break away from your spell
(you put me in the deep freeze)
(oh baby dont you leave me)
(stone...cold, your leavin me cold)
Stone cold...i thought I knew you so well
Stone cold...cant break away from your spell
Repeat til fade

Gracing The Garden
Stone sundial, an age old keeper of time,
You stand forlorn.
Motionless, soundless, waiting for rime,
Lichened and worn.
Rain and snow beat down with force,
You remain aloof.
Never altering your stance, or course,
You are weatherproof.
So elegant, composed, calm and serene,
A restful form.
In sandy colours, camouflaged in green,
You endure the storm.
Gracing the garden, you're a joy to view,
An ancient clock,
Ticking silently away, the whole day through,
Carved style, baroque.
In your own stately way, you make me smile,
You rank supreme.
Your excellent etched face, a fine carved dial,
For each sunbeam.

Hated and Loved
Hated are the cruel of the ages,
Their emotions are stronger than stone and pages.
Hated are the young of the ages,
Where are endeavours, the support and fences?
Hated are the sportsmen of the ages
Who cancel their dreams and farmhouses.
Hated are the professions of the ages
That send messages.
Hated are men and women of the ages
Who work with people in the madhouses.
Hatred is a disease we conquered when love sustained us,
When love was cherished in absoluteness.
