I slept and in my dreaming wept
for promises I made: Unkept
The promises I did not keep
return to haunt me in my sleep.
Sometimes prevailing circumstance
had meant that I had little chance.
To do what I said I would do,
at other times it’s sad but true.
Some promises I made were not meant.
I knew that I had no intent
of doing what I had promised.
There seems to be an endless list.
The guilt I feel is real and deep.
My conscience will not let me sleep.
All of the things I should have done
but did not do each single one
Returns at night to punish me.
I must admit deservedly.
Sins from the past I now regret.
I only wish I could forget.
But I cannot although I try
Because I acted wrongfully
I understand the reason why.
My guilty conscience bothers me.

Guilt 08 for friend J.T.Ellison
The slow soft sighing of the breeze, recalls a stir of memories.
Some good, some bad, some sad, some glad. concerning all the friends I’ve had
All of my youthful dreams which failed young love affairs which quickly staled
All of my petty victories I can recall with greatest ease.
My failures too are on parade, all of the errors I have made.
Insist on coming to the fore, they do not matter any more.
I have regrets of course I do I can’t deny that this is true.
Now looking back I clearly see. It wasn’t always up to me.
sometimes because of circumstance I was prepared to take a chance
and acted irresponsibly. Instead of thinking carefully.
When I was young, naïve and green Made promises I did not mean
in order to achieve my ends. Now it’s too late to make amends.
Some memories come as punishment and other memories are meant
to comfort me in my distress. Assuage the sins which I confess.
I think perhaps this might be true of each and every one of you.
I offer in my own defence that I learnt by experience
the lessons which I needed to as everybody has to do.

For Pity's Sakes
Oft in the stilly night, I wake
for no reason apparently.
Then I recall each past mistake
that I have made regretfully.
A self inflicted punishment
for wrongful deeds which I recall
Some hurt I caused without intent.
The guilt I felt still lingers yet.
I fall asleep eventually
my guilty conscience satisfied.
Allows me to sleep peacefully.

Minor Sins for M lady Lorraine
The shadow of an echo falls
upon deaf ears which listen not.
They fail to hear the distant calls
of memories they thought forgot.
The sinful acts they have repressed
and buried deep in memory.
Are in their disturbed sleep expressed.
Rise to remind them forcefully.
The night mares we perforce must ride
are merely our self punishment

Night thoughts pour M'sieur Savin
Night thoughts
The night is still I sit alone
with just my thoughts for company
I marvel how the years have flown
and view the past regretfully.
On looking back I clearly see.
Decision which I made in haste
were often taken foolishly.
Mistakes which left a bitter taste.
Caused hurt to others needlessly
There is no way to transfer blame
It’s my responsibility.
I was a novice at life’s game.
Is all I offer in defence
Like all young men I knew it all,
which does not lessen my offence.
My conscience insists I recall.
The things I did which I should not
and things I didn’t do I should.
The minor sins I had forgot.
I sit alone in pensive mood.
I am a man no more no less
Not wholly bad or wholly good
A subtle blend of both I guess.
A sudden change of attitude.
I realise I’m not unique,
that every body has regrets.
I find the peace of mind I seek.
My conscience mollified quiets.
The pearly light of early dawn
dispels the darkness easily.
I start the day with hope reborn
forget the night hour’s misery.
I cannot claim to be perfect
Freely acknowledge I am not
nobody is. I must accept
I thought I was when I was not.

Reason and Cause
Promises made and not kept...
Are not easy to forgive or forget.
Those that do this are usually met,
With less respect than they expect...
Or get!
To excuse a promise made,
Often degrades a relationship.
Especially if made to children.
Children do not forget it.
And adults who make promises...
With no intentions to fulfill them.
Find themselves blaming someone else,
For breaking a commitment.
Only to discover,
They have become the reason and cause...
Of that person's resentment.

Today I Had to Forgive Myself (My Life Is Meant to be Lived)
I saw something I had never seen before,
Once I looked beyond my own sorrows.
I lifted my head and saw an open door.
A light was shining through,
To show me tomorrow.
With promises I once wished,
But had not pursued.
I lived with a stagnation...
That came and overstayed,
A temporary reservation...
I made when feeling down,
And knocked out!
Drugged on self debasement.
Feeling nothing could replace...
This empty space within me.
And I knew then...
If I was to walk through that door,
Today I had to forgive myself...
And not let my burdens feel too welcomed.
As I had done countless times before.
Tossing my pain and self doubt about!
They could stay for as long as they wanted!
And entertain grief that came to visit.
But I had no intentions to remain with them,
Sustaining their attention or their comfort.
I kept deep within to repeat again and again.
A hollow search I felt had no end.
My life is meant to be lived.
Not to sit and forget to refresh my perceptions.

And when I made up my mind,
I knew I would find...
A release of darkness that would diminish.
Once I allowed my guilt to deplenish,
I prepared to say goodbye to despair!

Do You Remember
Do you remember when you said I wasn't listening to you,
But you know that I really couldn't.
Do you remember when I asked you to repeat what you said,
And too me you said that you wouldn't.
Do you remember when you got mad at me daily for my hearing,
And I told you that you shouldn't.
Do you remember when I flew thousands of miles,
So that I could Just to be with you.
Do you remember also when I flew you here to my home,
So that we could become just two.
Do you remember when I did or went wherever that you wanted,
And all you really had to do was only to ask me to.
Do you remember how I went into deep, deep debt,
So that I could get you all that you did and do own.
Do you remember how I said that everything of mine was yours,
Which included my heart and also my home.
Do you remember how you then mocked and laughed at me,
When collectors would come and not leave me alone.
Do you remember when I prayed to GOD for our love,
Every single day and also every night.
Do you remember how happy and proud I always was of you,
And all you had to do was stand at my side.
Do you remember all the argument that you started with me,
And with me you would love to argue and fight.
Do you remember those many plans that we had made,
But never alone but while we were together.
Do you also remember how I would always say,
That you and I would always be forever.
Do you also remember as I still do and that I always will,
That once again you secretly chose some other.
Do you still remember the many sins that you've done,
And also the many lies to me that you had spoke.
Do you still remember the times that you weren't in our home,
Especially the times you weren't there when I had awoke.

I wonder still if your conscience ever did choke.

How you have done this again and also once before.
Do you still remember how you had use all your other men,
So that you could get what you were looking for.

Maybe that's why you always left for a different shore.

And once again in front of GOD and in the presence of man.
Do you remember how you would always be at your mans side,
While you were holding onto another mans hand.
Do you remember all those promises you made and then broke,
I wish truly that you I could understand.
Did you also know that years or even days from now,
Your eyes will begin to grow a bit dimmer.
Did you also know that about that same time from now,
Your heart will rebel and will begin to shimmer.

Promises
Promises are comfort to a fool.
And I'm that fool.
In our many years of existence we have all had the leading role of being that fool.
Onto promises.......
I have numerous Oscar's for I know I play that role oh so well.
I wondered why do I fall victim to this.
The purpose of a promise was never to break it
BUT.....
If it is broken it becomes a lie.
I wondered why do I fall victim to promises.
It is maybe because I'm a Promise Keeper.
I am an addict for promises.
I could never stay away from it.
Never stop believe in it.
A promise is equivalent to 'say what you mean' and 'mean what you say'.
So when a promise is made to me it is align with the saying,
'It's like taking candy from a baby'.
Not naive for I know never to believe in Promises.
Optimistic, maybe.
I always believe in promises.
WHY? ?
Because when I make them I do my best to keep them no matter the circumstances.
Promises are my Opium.
But I must say most of the promises made to me were kept.
But as for now, , , I'm getting the bad side effects.
