Greeting The Season

The holiday season always starts, a rush of people with weary hearts,
A time ordered for season’s greetings, rushing all to family meetings.
While rushing to malls filled with holly, covered with commercial jolly,
Peoples searching far and near, to find some temporal holiday cheer.

They find festive noise is all around, as lights and ornaments abound,
And at the root, what is the cause; a jolly old man named Santa Claus.
Hiding Truth from girls and boys, using nothing but those simple toys,
Filling their hearts with temporal joys, in the midst of the festive noise.

The Christmas Truth people seldom lift, even though it was God’s gift,
The one gift from The Lord above; a special gift of The Father’s Love.
And unlike other gifts of the past, this one gift from God will truly last,
When all the other gifts cease to be, this one gift shall last for eternity.

That special Gift was God’s Only Son, that one gift sent for everyone,
God’s Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, sent to give all men New Life.
And this Gift was not under a tree, but nailed upon a cross on Calvary,
Where Christ himself paid the price, as He became for men a sacrifice.

God’s Gift will give you peace on earth, through His Gift of New Birth,
And Christ will forgive all your sin, if you would simply believe in Him,
To fill your heart with Heaven’s hush, even in this festive holiday rush,
So this season you’ll be gleaning, its true reason with God’s meaning.

Festival

They Say:
It's Festive Time Today
Auspicious Durga Pooja Day
May be my time is not Right
Or my mood is not Festive
And hence - I've been
miserably crying away
all through the day.

Everyone Will Feel Pinched By a Grinch On the Loose

Everyone will feel pinched.
By a grinch on the loose.
This festive holiday season...
Has a sputtering train on the tracks.
With barely an engine!
And no caboose.

No champagne to sip.
Or horse radish with bacon dip.
Don't light up that Christmas Tree...
Unless you have gas,
Instead of electricity to heat.

Take the turkey out of the freezer,
With other leftovers from Thanksgiving Day.
The ones still living near...
And haven't moved away.

Buy a box of crayons...
And color some brown paper bags!
Find something you will not have to offer,
To sell at a tag sale.
Like a teapot.
And not a sofa you have to drag.

Wrapped 'whatever' it is and tape it.
Take pictures of this!
Since this Christmas just may be...
The best one you've had!
Maybe not one you'll wish to reminisce.

'Be glad for what you've got!
You kids think money...grows on trees.'
My mom use to say.
And I began to pray,
For that to happen one day.

But today,
This is the reality...
The thought of eating fresh picked leaves,
May not be too far away!

I will bring you out of the land of bondage

I will bring you out of the land of bondage

Arms subjugated she prays:
Chag Ha-Matzot
Chag Ha-Pesach
to which the third eye replies,

'I will bring you out of the land of bondage'
the tenth plague will not touch you
and when the angel of death descends
to slay the Egyptians’ first-born
thou shall be passed over.

Then thou shall sit at each Seder
and retell the Exodus saga
while partaking in a festive meal.
Then thou shall recite prayers of thanks,
welcome Elijah the prophet
and sing Passover songs.

Thy table shall be festive and decorated
with four cups of wine, four why questions, four sons.

The Wise Son, the generation of the chacham,
the Wicked Son, the generation of the rasha,
the Unknowing Son, the generation of the simple son,
the Unquestioning Son, the lost generation.

And I shall make you four promises:

'I will bring you out of the land of bondage.'
'I will save you.'
'I will free you from slavery.'
'I will take you to be a chosen people.'

Ice Skating

People love to go skating, across the ice;
It may be rather chilly, but it’s just so nice.
People wrapped up in coats, gloves and scarves,
Share each other’s company, and also some laughs.

Fairy lights twinkle, up in the trees nearby.
Excited eyes sparkle, and spirits are high.
Across the rink, the skaters twist and twirl;
On the ice, their skates create ornate swirls.

Novice skaters hang on, tightly, to the side;
Their nerves, with smiles, they try to hide.
A good sense of balance is vital, to stay upright;
Wibble-wobbling about, some people lose the fight.

Some skaters execute some amazing moves;
That they are old pros, they can easily prove.
Some people hold hands, as they skate around;
Taking in all of the exciting sights and sounds.

The skaters’ noses and cheeks glow, rosy pink,
As they make their way around the huge ice rink.
Some of the first time skaters, tumble and fall,
And they just can’t seem to get the hang of it all.

It’s a festive experience, which is hard to beat,
And, for many, it’s an exciting winter time treat.
To go skating, at an outdoor rink, people wait all year;
It’s an activity, guaranteed to bring some festive cheer.

The Autumn Splendor

The Autumn Melody
The hot summer months rolled by
The cool autumn have arrived
The trees are adorned
with colors like bride
in festive night
The swift wind passes by
The trees swing in tempo
in beauty and harmony
The sun golden rays shines
on the pastures and hamlets
You can hear the beautiful melodies
of Autumn months splendor

The Week Before Christmas

Everyone has now decorated their Christmas tree.
The winter weather is now beginning to freeze.
Supermarket queues are getting extremely long.
On radio, being played, are many Christmas songs.

People are attending their works’ festive party;
Filling up on booze, and food, hot and hearty.
Children are happy to have broken up from school,
Which, by them, is thought to be extremely cool.

People are writing their last minute Christmas cards.
Twinkling, coloured lights decorate the front yard.
People are embarking on Christmas gift wrapping;
Stress is kicking in, and there’s now much flapping.

Last minute deliveries are now arriving by post.
Christmas parties are being planned by the hosts.
Santa Claus seems to be everywhere that you go:
Dressed in his bright red suit, calling ‘Ho! Ho! Ho! ’

Carol singers, to people passing by, bring much cheer,
People are stocking up on bottles of fine wine and beer.
The pick of the most popular gifts, has now been sold:
What’s left on the shelves, looks a bit battered and old.

At the post office, they’re queuing right back to the door;
You’re wishing now, that you’d sent all of your cards before.
People are now offering season’s greetings to each other:
To family, friends, neighbours, strangers, and their lovers.

In less than a week, Christmas day will finally be here,
And dear friends and loved ones will all gather near.
Despite all their stress and the cold, wintry weather,
Everyone hopes this will be the best Christmas ever!

A Christmas Wish

November rain shrouding the light,
Somewhere the sun will set, a crimson red,
Not here, not today,
Feeling festive, feeling silly,
Weeks away yet and not a angel in sight,
I need the sun likes a flower needs water to survive,
I need to watch the distant glow of the teary beacon as it disappears behind the rooftops,
I need to believe, I need to look forward,
Christmas, a time for fun, frolics an
d festive folly,
Is also a time to reflect on those less fortunate and those who have sadly departed,
Reflecting on the events and people that have shaped our destinies,
Gives us the reason to carry on,
Christmas is a time of hope and a time to give to those in need, we can all spare a little piece of our hearts,
The sun will set somewhere on Christmas Day, and I will embrace it in my minds eye!
The crimson hue will light the way for us all

All I Want For Christmas

You could shop until you drop
At every mall in town
Searching for that special gift for me
Cowboy boots, a hunting suit
That would be just fine
But you can't buy the biggest wish of mine
Honey, all I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
Twelve more months of loving
A heart so sweet and true
Make me a promise
That's the best that you can do
All I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
I could make a list of my requests
And send them to Santa Claus
Tell him what a good man I've been
He could land up on our rooftop
Bring it all on Christmas eve
But you've still got the greatest gift for me
Honey, all I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
Twelve more months of loving
A heart so sweet and true
Make me a promise
That's the best that you can do
All I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
I could be so happy
Holding you by firelight
Listening to you whisper
I'm yours for life
Honey, all I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
Twelve more months of loving
A heart so sweet and true
Make me a promise
That's the best that you can do
All I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you
Honey, all I want for Christmas
Is a new year with you

Crazy Enough

I am crazy enough to jump off a bridge for you
Even when i have seen you only once.
I am crazy enough to still be thinking about you
Even when i know nothing of you at all
crazy enough to build castles in the sky
crazy enough to imagine you and me
crazy enough to never see
the lie of you
I am crazy enough to stand in the rain
so i might see you once more
crazy enough to follow you home
so i can see you for a while
and i am crazy enough to want to be your
sickness so that you might go unhindered
crazy enough that no pain hurts me deeply
crazy enough that i cant let go
i am crazy enough to want to die for you
and there is nothing known about you
i am crazy enough to want to kidnap you
and watch you grow old in the cupboard of my mind
crazy enough to kill you so i might have you forever
crazy enough to only think
' if not mine no one else's
crazy enough that i might want to haunt you
I am crazy enough to hear what i want
crazy enough to hurt you so i might love you more
crazy enough to offer my soul
for you
crazy enough to want to
be you
i am crazy enough to say that
i don't know you except by sight
but i love you all the same

Charles Dickens

'At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge,' said the gentleman, taking up a pen, 'it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. ... We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices.'

all That Fancy Food

'ALL THAT FANCY FOOD'

After all that fancy food at Christmas in the past,
Turkey stuffing Xmas pud things that do not last
Full brekkies in the morning, snacks again at noon
Eating and drinking all day long until we see the moon
Now really what I fancy now festive time is gone,
Is plain food so English to peg me back to norm
Good old Egg and chips will get me back to form.

Though I grabbed the nostalgic wind she slipped away

Farmers collect the harvest merrily
And the festive season in my hometown started already.
The peculiar smell of oil-cakes(native) touch my nostrils.

Oh! My roots are there and I am here the barren Saturnine tree.

K... I Lost

I lost... She lost... We lost and our heart lost.
Oh’ Society at your social and traditional cost.

Now our face will be considered as a culprit in love.
A strain is on our character with a defame shove.
How the rain will happen at my territory...
How a bud will blossom at a contrary...
My love ruined the society, people made that prove
Blaming us become their fashion and groove
at every lane and street we became the hated most.
I lost... She lost... We lost and our heart lost.
Oh’ Society at your social and traditional cost.

All are mortal; we can never be immortal
but... Our love will become for lovers’ portal
In future our successor will follow my shadow path
now may not the time for the spring... but it will be a heath
Defame has became our own fatal
we are blamed and going to die, but love is immortal
Love is spontaneous and the earth is its host
I lost... She lost... We lost and our heart lost.
Oh’ Society at your social and traditional cost.

I saw her love and felt me in her eye.
She is there always for me; Where is the “but & why”?
You are mistreating us and blaming us today
for you, our lives, we are going to pay.
We expressed our feeling with no shy.
Nothing is there what I have to post.
I lost... She lost... We lost and our heart lost.
Oh’ Society at your social and traditional cost.

Christmas narrative

As the festive season draws near,
There is excitement in the air,
Spurring a welcome sense of cheer,
Which both adults and children share,
There's hopes a snowfall will occur,
And you see loved ones as planned for,
Surplus from the harvests there were,
Means that there is a feast in store,

As soon as advent has begun,
Days can't pass fast enough for some,
Light candles till the wait is done,
And the awaited shall soon come,
Good will to those that have it tough,
As Christmas spirit grows in us,
To be with loved ones is enough,
There is no need for too much fuss,

Make sure preparations are laid,
And you have stocked full the cupboard,
While mixing pudding to be made,
Voice wishes you hope get answered,
Claim the best fir tree there's to find,
Which shan't go up before it should,
Keep the superstition in mind,
Wait till Christmas Eve if you could,

Dress the house up with evergreen,
Those plants in which spirits remain,
They promise a spring shall be seen,
Cold and darkness won't always reign,
The tree we take care to adorn,
Shades gifts we're eager to open,
As they cannot wait until dawn,
Glee is seen in eyes of children,

Since there is no evil about,
On Christmas Eve people unite,
Signalled by church bells ringing out,
There is praise given at midnight,
Faithful kneel to see out advent,
It's said creatures too do this act,
Till sunup time's restlessly spent,
As promises of joy distract,

Soon after children stir they wake,
And to the Christmas tree they sneak,
While careful of the noise they make,
At their presents they hope to peek,
That in which Kris Kringle partook,
Spurs us to give and receive back,
Warmed by a sincere thankful look,
Which on Christmas morning few lack,

Only brief moments are tranquil,
Till kitchens have goods to reveal,
With rich foods to give us our fill,
All gather for the family meal,
The pudding is the most special,
Because it's used to fortune tell,
Silver hidden in a morsel,
Means in the new year you'll do well,

Each festive day should be joyous,
So keep decorations in place,
Up till the twelfth day of Christmas,
Else there will be bad luck to face,
The season has come to a close,
It's one others cannot surpass,
Saddened when the festive cheer goes,
For till there's more a year must pass.

Let's End This War On Christmas

There's a war declared on Christmas
War on nativity
War on this festive season
And all things Christmassy.

No Christmas songs at Walmart
No carolers at night
No wish of 'Merry Christmas'
Christmas is sanitized.

No Christmas in the classroom
No Christmas now at work
What in the world will happen next,
No Christmases at church?

We're ashamed to share His story
With our children and our peers
For fear of being old fashioned
In this twenty first century.

Let's reclaim this Christmas season
With all it's hope and cheer
Let's end this war on Christmas
And keep it near and dear.

Let's greet with 'Merry Christmas'
In the stores and in the street
In the workplace and the office
To everyone we meet!

'MERRY CHRISTMAS

Shopping Sickness

My shrewd wife has just
returned from a ‘Top Class Retail Mall ‘
with a loud rejoice that she has
‘saved' a big three thousand four hundred
by shopping only in ‘discount sale, '
at the end of 3 hour afternoon ‘marathon'

curiously, I peeped into the
a meter-length printed bill -
final tally was seven thousand one hundred.
she did'nt return to me,
the so-called, cosy discount in cash:
‘how sensible I am'- She is shouting back
from the dressing room, in a triumphant slang

She immediately, rang up her mother in Manamadurai
to proclaim the gains, she managed
from the three-tier hunting floors

Basmati rice, Badam milk, Jamoon mix,
Razor blades, ready-mix powders, no-good soups
failed cosmetics, fast expiring, unmoved stocks & fancy
Kargil blankets, rejected ready-mades, air- tight plastics,
things thrown overboard from a sinking ship
one plus one and two plus one, of no regular use
are under distress sale, christened as ‘bargain sale'

I am also at loss to know
how the ‘discount' works

in terms of my budgetary share,
her casual shopping for rupess
seven thousand - is one fifth
of my take-home pay.
………..how I will manage, to the Heavens I pray.
