Festival Gokulashtami

Of spate in raining torrents
When in noisy beating swells
Wasn't Yamuna aware but bewared
Softened timely a celestial dab-touch
Krishna gave from Vasudev's escort

But erstwhile happenings, knew well
Knowing future events the Milky ocean..
Hooded Adisesha over the little Lord
Cautioned, from the downpour to protect..
Gokul-Guard grown to a Global-Gaurd

Wonderment is wondrous Gopal
Celestial child to supreme God of all
Midnight tune of nemesis to evil
Kamsa to Kauravas, mastermind of a destroyer
Yet not stressful but blissful a Bansury player

Amazement is Krishna, all-time-attracter
Amazing His deeds all a divine blockbuster
Amazing Rohini(aldebaran) -born toddler
Amazingly when killed Kaaliya with valour
Amazeful althrough ashtami-born victor

so such, o'my heart wish for His presence
So to bathe in Krishna's mercifulness
So to absolve of torturing sins
So to cheer like Gopas and Gopikas
So pray o'my heart for His reborn nascence

And don't laze..be abuzz with cheers
And fetch in for Him fragrant flowers
And do with sweetness the delicacies
And decorate with rangoli and festoons
And light the lamp and incense with prayers

Then fasting crying in soul's calling
Then longing soulful for His blessing
Then stringing basil singing praising
Then clapping, dancing for His heart's listening
Then await His comming to your imploring

Gokul (Cascade poem-named for its cascading effect. It uses refrains of the first stanza-lines
The Cascade form has no rhyme scheme.

Gokul

Cascading events marched in the dark
Tenebrous war of lightnings flashed
Crossing Yamuna Vasudev fled
Gokul sprang prattling Krishna, Krishna

It was Kamsa the tyrant tortured
Feared of Devaki's child to kill him
He began killing each new born babe
Cascading events marched in the dark

Mathura grew dreadful by Kamsa
People were terrified and threatened
So alike Krishna's parents were jailed
Tenebrous war of lightnings flashed

Watching their babies being slaughtered
They prayed atleast their eighth child be saved
Dream-blessed they were guided by Lord's words
Crossing Yamuna Vasudev fled

With the divine babe in his hands up
Guarded by Adhisesha he walked
Through godly night showers to Gokul
Gokul sprang prattling Krishna, Krishna

Sri Krishna

Long ago when Lord Vishnu took a new form
In order to restore Faith and Goodness on Earth
At midnight, in Mathura it was raining with thunderstorm
Devaki and Vasudev were overjoyed with their son Krishna's birth

Vasudev left infant Krishna in Gokul, at Yashoda and Nand's home
Cute and charming baby Krishna loved to play, run around and eat butter
Every prank of Krishna was talk of the town, Legends to become
Boy Krishna conquered serpent Kalinga, saved friends and Yamuna river

Kansa, Krishna's Uncle tried to kill Krishna, Krishna escaped his every ploy
All the damsels of Vrindavan, surround handsome Krishna, with adoration
Whenever Krishna played flute for his cows, every one would sway with joy
Radha the Lucky one, the Love she had, got her Krishna's adoration

Krishna freed his parents, Guided and Lead Arjuna, a win over his Kingdom
Krishna has a mesmerising and enchanting Persona and Presence
His Preachings 'Bhagavad Gita' enlightens our souls, ' Pearls of Wisdom '
Krishna lives in every heart that has Faith as the Divine essence.

Lord Krishna

O my Lord! O my Krishna!
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

You are the embodiment of love
you are the divine joy,
you are protector of the religion
all pain and sin, you destroy.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Wicked and cruel king Kansa
put your parents in prison.
You released them from jail
appeared as Vishnu's incarnation.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

As child you led cow herds
had great love for your mother
Grown with magic of your flute
as hero loved by peers and others
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Kansa sent sinful Putana to kill you
by feeding breast's poisoned milk.
She herself was met to her end
you sucked blood, failed her trick.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

He was desperate to kill my Lord
So he sent many other demons.
You defeated all of the demons
killed his wicked men one by one.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Supported villagers and cattle,
lifted mountain to make shelter,
You killed poisonous snake in river
where cattle used to drink water.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Always blessed, who followed your path
taught Arjuna lessons of truth and war.
You turned result of Mahabharat war
into the victory of righteous Pandwas.
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

You come on earth again and again
to save it; in various incarnations.
Without you my Lord! I am nothing
in this universe, nothing can happen.
O my Lord! O my Krishna!
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Happy Birth Day

With the side of the folded fist
Dipped into the batter of rice
Imprinted are the Holy Feet
Of little Krishna, 'Kolam' of providence
From the floor of the street
Via the steps along the house
Inwardly upto the 'pooja' almirah straight
Where picture of Krishna with floral garlands,
Lit holy lamps, incense, sandal paste
Sindhoor, assorted flowers, holy yellow rice,
Special fruits, varieties of milk sweet,
And snacks made of gram and rice-
'Seedai, murukku, thenkuzhal, thattai' on big plate
Are ready and the priest next invokes
Lord Ganesh, next to propitiate
Lord Krishna with all the delicious delights
Marking Krishna's birth thus devout great
Full of exultation eating the delicacies..
Krishna eating? mm..Krishna alone knows

Love of Radha, Lord Krishna!

Radha was Krishna's Love,
Nay, Radha was Krishna's part,
Krishna was Radha heart,
She came dancing to tune of flute,
She was breath of his music,
She filled his Murali with Love divine,
He made her spine his flute,
Chakras become seven holes of flute,
played strange notes, became her light and joy,
Sitting below lean against tree,
with legs stretched like kind loving mother,
She took his head in her lap,
Love talked for hours in silence,
Her face Krishna saw in his own light,
And in her eyes his own figure,
In her heart his own face,
Love is that lamp glowing in her heart,
light of love spread whole world,
even the Sun and moon reflected Radha's love!

He became her smile,
she laughed his hearts joy,
She shed tears of his pain,
Never cared for shame and blame,
Never showed shyness,
As her star like love shines
Sound was there companionship,
Innocent she was about his divinity,
He gave his all to her plain love without vanity!

Radha, Radha was Krishna's breath sounded,
Krishna, Krishna her heart danced,
No jealousy no possessiveness,
Radha was great and her love too,
No touch of selfishness, love's spotless devotion,
Pure was heart without corruption,
Her love revolved around Him,
Just as Earth around the Sun,
Or moon around the earth!
Sometimes she was satellite,
Sometimes she is star or planet,
Her love shined in the sky,
Shaded clouds shy red at dawn and dusk,
Golden sun rays of dawn, adorned her love,
white face of high clouds shy to red,
Black low clouds shed tears when krishna was a bit late,
Cooling the burn,
to put off the fire of longing!

Radha was nature and she was filled with Krishna's spirit,
Radha was great to make Krishna Great,
She was her Guru, she became his motherlike at times,
She was friend and guide,
Never enjoyed his downward slide,
He filled her breath in his heart and mind,
Made it wide and light,
Prepared him for his high flight
No internal fight, every thing straight and her heart was ever light
Filled with eternal love's light
She taught every thing in love is always right,
When only heart is light
with love's innocent purity extreme!

Krishna Goes To The Woods

O Krishna, darling of Gokula, awake

I have brought you milk, curd and sugar-candy come and partake of these delicacies: your pals are at the door, calling you to play; the sun has risen and it's time to go to the woods.

Hearing her words Krishna joyfully arose and after breakfasting departed for the woods Says Suradasa, my heart's always where the Lord is.

A Mail To Mayakkannan

Darling Krishna,
In that dispersed dream
Into a vague painting
You too dispersed in a stream
Of blue and green leaving
Me in a splendid awe
To remark till now 'aha'

In the cradle of my vision
You sway like a tiny magician
With your beauty splendour
Smiling, chuckling to evince an ankle-biter
On a banyan leaf so fertile
Only to conceal in exile

You slick up then a little grown
Patting me not to search on;
Four armed, with conch and discus
With mace and lotus
Asking me to comment on your armour
Narayana, only as an idol at Guruvayur.

Then you perform a new dance
Taking me to a deadly trance
On the serpent Kaaliya.
You then heave the hill Govardhana
Simply on your little finger.
Soon you vanish ere I admire.

Blasting you come again as Narasimha,
Tear apart Hiranyakashipu.Mayakanna,
Countless were your deeds divine yonder;
Dreamt and only dreams recur.

Hey Ranganatha don't laze at leisure;
Me, impatient by your reclining posture.
You dream now of Puthana
Breast-sucked to death by little Krishna
Who enraptured Yashoda blooming
Like lotus, aged three, so charming.
Should my dream come true
Ranga, want my Krishna alone, true

That chubby face with muddy mouth
That muddy mouth with awed mirth
Yashoda saw in a living cosmos..
Have I that repeated? ..Yes.
Consecrated by ablution of your divine melody
Were'nt gopikas roaming around Your bansuri?
Venugopal, pal of gopas
Douse me too in your musical grace.
Hurry up Hari
Prank and prattle for me
Pop in Lord, I'm waiting.

The Lord said that the “I” in you is really me

The me in me is quite troublesome
And I know all the problems
I face is because this me
It has been a longing desire of mine
To get rid of this me

I said one day to Krishna
Let all my prayers I have offered to you
Help me getting a grant from you
Krishna said
Say that and it will be granted based on its merit

Krishna, I need only one thing
I do not require anything materialistic
My requirement is you yourself
I request you to occupy me
Totally vacating “me” from me
And you will take care of
Everything happening around me

Krishna did not answer
But, said
Hold on, your demand is quite on the higher side
Anyway I will consider it
Presently I am occupying someone else
And so I am not free to move into thee

Turning curious, I asked Krishna
Who is he and where is he?

Krishna made a smile
Did not answer and vanished

Days, weeks, months, years went by
I have been talking to Krishna all through
But I did not hear him saying a thing

The other day
I did call on Krishna
And renewed my demand
This time Krishna responded
Hi do you not know
That I have already occupied you
And I only am running things around you

Krishna, is it true?
I am not able to realize so
Things seem to have changed
I feel the same way as I used to feel earlier
I talk the same way as I used to talk earlier
I perform things the same way I used to perform earlier
I get saddened or gladdened the same way I used to get earlier
No change at all
I cannot believe what you say

A smiling Krishna said
I know you are going to say that
Now you renew your prayers
Requesting me to grant you this knowledge
Lord further said
That the “I” in you is really me
Once you land upon this realization
I will move on to another person
Who is waiting for my occupation

Nothing is really mine except Krishna.

Nothing is really mine except Krishna.
O my parents, I have searched the world
And found nothing worthy of love.
Hence I am a stranger amidst my kinfolk
And an exile from their company,
Since I seek the companionship of holy men;
There alone do I feel happy,
In the world I only weep.
I planted the creeper of love
And silently watered it with my tears;
Now it has grown and overspread my dwelling.
You offered me a cup of poison
Which I drank with joy.
Mira is absorbed in contemplation of Krishna,
She is with God and all is well!

*

O my King, my father, nothing delights me more
Than singing the praises of Krishna.
If thou art wrath,
then keep thy kingdom and thy palace,
For if God is angry, where can I dwell?
Thou didst send me a cup of poison and a black cobra,
Yet in all I saw only Krishna!
Mira is drunk with love, and is wedded to the Lord!

*

The heart of Mira is entangled
In the beauty of the feet of her Guru;
Nothing else causes her delight!
He enabled her to be happy in the drama of the world;
The Knowledge he gave her dried up
The ocean of being and becoming.
Mira says: My whole world is Shri Krishna;
Now that my gaze is turned inward, I see it clearly

Acceptance On A Summon

Every minute I summoned to you
Every minute I waited for you
But only disappointment sickened me
Till last minute nothing meant to me
Now it is amazing being with you
Swear by that moon you won't leave
For your radiant presence of blue
Need to change me not to grieve
Come home or this be the home
Let us live filially part and part
Of a mother with a son lovesome
Modelling a life where nothing'll interrupt
I shall give you whatever Yashoda gave
All the delicacies of milk, you crave
Address me mom as you did to Yashoda
Spend my days like you did with Yashoda
'Cry not' said the God-child Krishna
Stayed back. My piety to little Krishna
Turned meaningful; life got salvaged

Radha is still lucky

Radha, you are not lucky
To be a mono love of Krishna.
Radha, you are not lucky
To be the consort of Krishna,
When he went to Mathura
Having left you on Yamuna.

Radha, you are not lucky
To bear his seed in any way.
Radha, you are still lucky
As you had him bodily.
We, the women born since you,
Loved him more than you,
But not corporally,
And yet in fantasy,
As if we were loved
Back by Krishna as well.
Radha, we envy you.
Radha, we modal on you too.

From The Banks Of Ganga: V

I open my eyes
Non-light on the Ganga
Breaking into dawn
A la Kubja stood as if waiting
For me to open my eyes
Kabhie Krishna ko dekha?
Chalo meri saath!

Like a mute animal
I follow her into a chamber
Where a marble Krishna welcomed me
How long did I sit in His presence?
Hare Rama hare rama
Rama Rama Hare hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
My own chanting
Reverberating in my ears

There flowed Ganga
In bright sunlight…

Submission To The Baby God

The music of Bansuri-the flute,
Fastened me in trance in a heavenly spot.
Little Krishna! i saw you under a tree,
As a cow-herd playing your Bansuri.

Your soft velvety tiny feet,
Dancing in rhythmical gentle beat,
Myself sinking deep, deeper in devotion,
Little Krishna! harmonic was my emotion.

My closed eyes touching your petal-feet,
My arms hugging around your legs resplendent
My nose smelling-in your divine basil,
My bowed body sensing your garland's tickle,

'Ma' you said to make me calm,
Touching me with your tender palm.
Enthralled by your tranquil blessing,
No mind to get back to my living.

I surrender in deep rest of peace,
Unto your abode for your divine solace.
You are my sole, solemn, SAVIOUR!
Krishna! may my soul never waver! .

The Lord Is His Devotees' Slave

Whatever is a devotee's
caste, clan, family, or name,
Rama's love for him is the same.

Beggar and king
are one to him.

Say, of what caste could be
Brahma or Shiva?

Rama will never abide
in the egotistic man's heart
therefore his slave, Suradasa,
has abandoned pride.

Rama was born in the Raghu clan
Krishna found his home in Gokula.

Words fail to tell of
the Lord's love
universal, all-embracing;
Dhruva was a Kshatriya,
Prahlada a demon and Vidura the son of a maid:
yet the Lord gave them his supreme love,
Krishna washed the devotees' feet
at the Rajasuya.

The Lord is the slave
of his devotees
age after age.
The tongue can't relate
his countless deeds.

Says Suradasa, the Puranas and Vedas
are witness to these.

Kadamb tree and Krishna leela! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Lord, far from Vrindavan, I heard your Divine song
Enchanted and in a trance, I hummed as I walked along.
The air was cool, after the rain and mildly fragrant.
With soft, woody, sweet, delicate and light scent.

Dark clouds were floating gently in the sky awhile
Sun was having long needed rest, I thought with a smile.
Lo, to my delight and disbelief, what do I see?
I am standing under the canopy of Kadamb tree.

Spellbound, unmindful of the light showers and the wind,
I saw golden balls of yellow flowers bobbing and swing
Saw you step out of the miniature painting in my mind’s eye.
Playfully watching the milk maids bathing, feeling shy.

In broad day light, stole clothes from the Yamuna’s banks.
Nonchalantly, climbed the Kadamba tree and played pranks
Teasing and laughing as they shivered and watched mute,
Pleading with their eyes, while you played, on your flute.

O Kadamba, could it be you are the sole witness alive
To KrishnaLeela, in folk lore and legends immortalised?
I wondered, as I made a garland of flowers to make an offering
In the temple, at midnight on this auspicious day - Janamashtami.

Janamashtami is the joyful celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth. It takes place at midnight, as He is believed to have made His appearance at that hour.
miniature paintings depict Krishna playing on His flute, under the Kadamb tree.
Lord Krishna is believed to be the most endearing human incarnations of Lord Vishnu. He was born in Mathura, near Vrindavan. His teachings have relevance even today.

Sculpting Krishna (2)

His parents guarded the temple,
answered questions; the child
wandered, looked, later read
all that was said;

now, he selects the stone,
listening all the time, hoping that
he hears the voice of Krishna say,
take this piece…

sharpens his chisel; prays;
with each tap, a chiselled prayer
rings out the question; magnified; or diminished?

chips away – outside himself, inside himself –
all that is not Krishna;
until finally, all that awaits
is the faintest sound of flute, of lightest laughter,
heard within the sculptor’s inner ear:

stone pretending to be Krishna;
Krishna, pretending to be stone.

A real deep love

Deep rooted eternal love for Lord Krishna
Calm water flowing in river Yamuna
It is story of Lord Krishna and his disciples
Never to be found any where based on principles,

Love for lord not hidden at heart
Even though He tried to be smart
Still felt loneliness by His absence
The life was devoid of any essence

Age old love bond still existed
Sung on tongue of everyone and insisted
It is divine love not understood in perspective
Lord remain in their heart and very active

He is not with them still there is existence
The want to be with Him at once
It is sad occasion for them now
They have no idea to over come or how?

This is present day scene
We have forgotten Him since
All curses befall on us and threaten
We have no escape route even

Let wisdom prevail with good sense
It is must to ease the tension hence
No one can live in without peace
It is essential to live at ease
