As early from bed I rise
So early the electricity dies
Accustomed hands paint blind shades
Then a lit candle lights the house
Unwilling to break a tradition
I go on the kolam expedition

I'm warned to be back inside

Red Sky Warning
I saw the cloud in the morning sky
So I turned to go back inside,
And I said to my wife, ‘It’s a shepherd’s dawn,
Or the red sky early warning, torn
By the man with the evil eye.’
The silence hung in a leaden pall
As she turned her face away,
And I said: ‘I’m only the man behind,
I’m not to account for all mankind
Or a cloud at the break of day.’
She looked again and she pulled the blind
And the house was dark and still.
‘I’ve looked my last on the works of man
Through whispered tears on a trembling hand,
Or the cloud beyond the hill.’
So she sat herself where she sits today
By the glow of the ash-wood fire,
But she sees and hears and tells me nought
While the devil inside her can’t be bought,
Or ever be made to tire.
So whenever a cloud in the early dawn

My father made the walls resound,

When I was five the black dreamscame;

The Child, The Man And The Old Man....
i look at the child
at the farther nook of a old house.
there is no chair and beside the door
is a box, it is empty
and the child in fear
took its hiding there
a favorite place
safety box, safe house,
the four corners are
so silent
and the child is happy
asleep in a moment.....
time travels like horses with wings.
there is a man
with a long bird his toenails
are long, no time to cut them
it throat is swollen
bacterial infection again
or the weather changes
cold this time then hot in
a moment
dusts all over the place
and white painted houses
it is lonely, child and man
at the same time
and not one of him speaks
they become one box
and one flap opens to

always there are
no extra hands. it is reality.

Twilight Vista
Twilight is unfolding with an awesome purple view,
A rare parade in shades of crimson too,
This placid scene offers one a moment of peace for a time;
While a lonesome bridge invites one to enjoy more of this grand vista so divine,
From up above where we can take in this glorious purple twilight;
That will sadly only last until the dawn's early light,
Still there's a feeling of warmth from watching the golden lights that glow off the water below;
Where it seems more like a dream.....unbelieveably so;
And for a short while, at least, we were given some reprieve,
From life's many storms, but for now it's time to take our leave.

Why can't existence
Have intermissions?
Temporary suicides
To keep us in line
And make us want
To come back to life—
Then we may find the meaning
That we have searched for
Throughout anthropology.
But, nevertheless,
We must subject life
To diminishing marginal equality
And force the darkness in—
Slowly

To the mind, the body, the soul:
Corruption. Hellish corruption.
Inside-out, outside-in
It makes little difference
In the long run,
The life span.
Years go by
Without a break

Like leaving the monitor on,

Wasting electricity—
The vitality within our walls.
Until the power outage,
The black out,

I told the coachman, ''just drive me on,
Its the same old destination

I jumped out about five to nine.

So I slipped behind a rainbow
And waited till the show had done.
I packed my ammunition.
Inside the crowd was shouting, ''encore,
But I had a most funny feeling ---
It wasnt me they were shouting for.
So when the tall dark lady smiled at me
I said, ''oh, baby let us go for a ride.
And we came upon two drinks or four
And popped them oh so neatly inside.
Oh, but the rain wasnt made of water
And the snow didnt have a place in the sun
So we slipped behind a rainbow
And lay there until we had done.
Let me pack you deep in my suitcase.
Oh, theres sure to be room for two ---
Or you can drive me to the airplane
But dont let me catch those rainbow blues.
