A Visit To Thiruchendur

Niceties of November rains
In a lordly remote touch
Brought in guests
Who took me on a state-highway
That was anew greenish afresh
Paddy-sided right and left
In big puddles but tanked
That the grey sky puffed bulky
Very willingly was duplicating itself
To which betwixt sunshine peering
In a play of hide and seek
Upsetting the watchful Ayyanar
All which His evidential horse
In silent neigh signalled, reported
That other village-deities spared
In secret enjoyment but in open escorting
In divine drizzles then and there
And new, new visiting birds
In total rejoicing coo-cooing colourful
On rhapsodic trees swaying in dancing plies
While the rainy breeze rollickingly caressing me
I lost myself in a different world...

But approaching sea-roaring
Brought me back diligent
To step into the Lord's abode
Ramping up and down, up and down
Through the cramming swampy crowd
Unto Lord Muruga's feet
Which beat back once the conceited tsunami,
Like the defeated three demons aeons back
Alike even this soul be conquered
I held the Lord's feet tight in full surrender
But as Matter mattered much I left my soul there
Just to return with this stale body
And started spinning around the precincts
With my heart and mind once, twice, thrice
In restarts of abrupt slokha-recitation
And when my soulless feet got fatigued
Transcient me on sudden realisation..
Where are the accompanied guests...?
And almost on a fall I sat O'Muruga...
Just to hear prompt that moment
From the godly tower an utterance
From a beautiful peacock in unfurled dancing
An unsyllabled cry but voicing special
'Searching the Truth...? '
To which unanswered my heart pondering on still
Though I joined the guests on return journey

My Poor Old Heart

I've been a fool for love
Ever since I was a baby
Just a rockin' in a cradle
As a rule I was the kind
That laid his feelings
Up front and on the table.
I gave up my world so many times
Just to see 'em tear it apart
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity
On my poor old heart.
I wonder just how many times
A broken heart can mend
Just when I get back on my feet
Lord, I always fall again.
Bruises, burns, lies, goodbyes
They've all left some scars
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity
On my poor old heart.
--- Instrumental ---
I oughta know by now
After all this debt
And heartache lessons
I could go without
Going through hell
Just to find a little heaven.
Seems to me every woman I meet
Has leavin' down to an art
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity
On my poor old heart.
I wonder just how many times
A broken heart can mend
Just when I get back on my feet
Lord, I always fall again.
Bruises, burns, lies, goodbyes
They've all left some scars
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity
On my poor old heart.
Bruises, burns, lies, goodbyes
They've all left some scars
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity

As a rule I was the kind who
Laid his feelings right down on the table
Gave my world so many times
Just to see them tear it apart
Whoa, Lord, have a little bit of pity

Oh, when I get back on my feet Lord, I always fall again

Lovers Prayer

Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
I dont want no jive artists calling me on the telephone
Dont wanna watch the carson show all alone
I just wanna lay back, take my rest
With the one I loves head resting on my chest
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
And I dont want my best friends even coming round
cos if they do I might put em down
Carsons over and the lights way down low
And all I got, I got a heart full of soul
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
And its a lovers prayer, oh yes it is
Takes a little time, takes a little care, yeah, yeah, yeah
And when it gets way on in the midnight hour
I just wanna play my guitar
I just wanna see you smile, touch your face
Be with you in my own place
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
Just wanna be with my love tonight
Just wanna be with my love tonight

In My Solitary Hours in My Dear Husband his Absence

O Lord, Thou hear'st my daily moan
And see'st my dropping tears.
My troubles all are Thee before,
My longings and my fears.

Thou hitherto hast been my God;
Thy help my soul hath found.
Though loss and sickness me assailed,
Through Thee I've kept my ground.

And Thy abode Thou'st made with me;
With Thee my soul can talk;
In secret places Thee I find
Where I do kneel or walk.

Though husband dear be from me gone,
Whom I do love so well,
I have a more beloved one
Whose comforts far excel.

O stay my heart on Thee. my God,
Uphold my fainting soul.
And when I know not what to do,
I'll on Thy mercies roll.

My weakness. Thou dost know full well
Of body and of mind;
I in this world no comfort have,
But what from Thee I find.

Though children Thou has given me,
And friends I have also,
Yet if I see Thee not through them
They are no joy, but woe.

O shine upon me, blessed Lord,
Ev'n for my Saviour's sake;
In Thee alone is more than all,
And there content I'll take.

O hear me, Lord, in this request
As Thou before hast done,
Bring back my husband, I beseech,
As Thou didst once my son.

So shall I celebrate Thy praise
Ev'n while my days shall last
And talk to my beloved one
Of all Thy goodness past.

So both of us Thy kindness, Lord,
With praises shall recount
And serve Thee better than before
Whose blessings thus surmount.

But give me, Lord, a better heart,
Then better shall I be,
To pay the vows which I do owe
Forever unto Thee.

Unless Thou help, what can I do
But still my frailty show?
If Thou assist me, Lord,
I shall Return Thee what I owe.

Sacrament Hymn

ON a fair Sabbath day, when His banquet is spread,
It is pleasant to feast with my Lord:
His stewards stand robed at the foot and the head
Of the soul-filling, life-giving board.
All the guests here had burthens; but by the King's grant
We left them behind when we came;
The burthen of wealth and the burthen of want,
And even the burthen of shame.
And oh, when we take them again at the gate,
Though still we must bear them awhile,
Much smaller they'll seem in the lane that grows strait,
And much lighter to lift at the stile.
For that which is in us is life to the heart,
Is dew to the soles of the feet,
Fresh strength to the loins, giving ease from their smart,
Warmth in frost, and a breeze in the heat.
No feast where the belly alone hath its fill,—
He gives me His body and blood;
The blood and the body (I'll think of it still)
Of my Lord, which is Christ, which is God.

Back To The Light

Far, far from the light
Here the night creatures call
In the cold breath they howl
And the hollow tears, theyre calling you
Ill be there, though maybe you wont see my babe
Ill still care, no mater where Ill still be there
When you make to the other side
Lord Im going back, back to the light
Back to the dreams that are paved with gold
Back to the light
Back to the land, where the sunshine heals my soul
Deep, deep in the night
When the world fils with tears
And the wind grows, colder and colder it grows
And the fire dimes, with the same old fears
Ill be there, no matter what youre going through
In the dark I care, Im holding on, Im hoping on
Its still the same old me inside#
Lord Im going back, back to the light
Back to the dreams that are paved with gold
Back to the light
Back to the land, where the sunshine heals my soul
On and on, searching for the clearer view
Winning and loosing an inner war
Wondering what we do it for
Though the road seems never ending
Hold on to the hope Im sending through
No matter where youre going to
Ill be there
Im holding on, believe it
Well be walking in the light
cos therell be no place left to hide
Back to the light
Back to the dreams that are paved with gold
Back to the light
Back to the land, where the sunshine heals my soul
Let me hear you babes - yeah, yeah, yeah

'It's thou pride, gyre gyre o'lord
Winning the game no easy
Going around worlds too queasy
Yet flinch not, gyre gyre o'lord
There thy peacock, get on board
Finish the rounds so easy
It's thou pride'

Much unthought but Ganesh scored
His parents His world, rounds easy
Lost Muruga got preachings uneasy

Monstrous Fortnight

On the day of Deepavali
Misty and pleasant was Udumalpet
Perhaps for the guests from Nellai
A city of only high or low heat

Getting back after happy celebration
No rains blessed us on our way
Crossed Palani a place for devotion
O'Muruga, give us rains I did pray

Nearing the 'Welcome' of our junction
Showers greeted us anyway
Thereupon beyond my expectation
Rained, rained and rained to make a boat-way

Boat-way by all means quaffed whole Tamil lustre
Ferocious the flood ate every home
Hid the deads like an ogre
So much stronger my prayer overdoing the loam?

Water-logged everywhere for a fortnight
Wreaking the wreck of transport busses
Gulping passangers, a miserable sight
A valiant demon of scary virtues

Tamil-Nadu a beautiful piece of earth
Now rain-ravaged and devastated
In our long time an unmet wrath
Slapping us to be woe composed

Relief and rescue machinery is high
The demon's lust, the damage remains
May the sacrificed souls in peace lie
I'm too angry with the Lord on Palani hills

So much havoc, so much disaster
O'Muruga is this fair?
Never to meet a monster
Do our hearts desire

Its About Time

I used to be a famous artist
Proud as I could be
Struggling to express myself
For the whole world to see
I used to blow my mind sky high
Searching for the lost elation
Little did I know the joy I was to find
In knowing I am only me
Im singin in my heart
Im singin in my heart
Im singin love to sing
I love to sing it from my heart
Oh the creation yeah
Of a good time doin my part
With an open-hearted laugh of realization in my mind
And now Im but a child who art
Erect in humility
Serving out a love for everyone I meet
In truth who are really me
Im singin in my heart
Im singin in my heart
Im singin love to sing
I love to sing it from my heart
No-no-no no no
Hoo no hey yeah no-no-no-no
Its about time now its about time now
Its about time now dont you know now
Its about time now its about time now
Its about time now dont you know now
Its about time we get together
To be out front and love one another
Brothers sisters everybody
We better start to help each other now
We need it now
When were sharin our love brother
Thats when we know we can shape another world

As I Wait

Lord help my soul to gently wait, as your soon return I anticipate,
Your soon return, for your Bride, all the souls for whom you died.
That day will be a special one, when we will see God’s Only Son.
The One who died in our place, the Church shall see face to face.

On the day we hear that sound, all God’s Saints will gather round,
Gathered around The Lord above, raptured there by Christ’s Love.
When we hear that trumpet blast, we will be with The Lord at last.
We will be one big Heavenly crowd, all together up in the clouds.

Until that day that He will fulfill, I must be about The Father’s will,
For I must remain occupied, to share the reason why Christ died.
This is why Christ has sent us to be about His Father’s business,
Reaching out to every nation, and teaching them about Salvation.

While for Him I wait, I must be, faithfully pointing men to Eternity.
I must be frank with everyone, all about God’s One and Only Son.
No matter what men may say, Jesus Christ, is God’s Only Way.
Christ is the way, truth, and life, out of this dark world of strife.

So as I wait for Christ’s Return, I must help other men to learn,
Learn about the coming end, and lead them to Salvation friend.
That is why Christ has left us here, so other men could also hear,
All about His matchless Grace, so they too, can see Christ’s face.

Blest are the pure in heart

Blest are the pure in heart,
For they shall see our God;
The secret of the Lord is theirs;
Their soul is Christ’s abode.

The Lord, Who left the heavens
Our life and peace to bring,
To dwell in lowliness with men
Their Pattern and their King.

Still to the lowly soul
He doth Himself impart;
And for His dwelling and His throne
Chooseth the pure in heart.

Lord, we Thy presence seek;
May ours this blessing be;
Give us a pure and lowly heart,
A temple meet for Thee.

Not a Cage, But Stage, Where Hell or Heaven Is Built!

Each Soul is divine,
Divine journey of divine spark,
That journey as per divine plan!

Your children are not your children,
They are guests visiting you,
As scheduled by divine hands,
They are here with their own destiny and fate,
who is able to state, When who is at what state?

Your friends and relatives too,
Are on their journey own,
Remember the love and affection shown!

Love and understanding
are in the heart of those here rejoice,

Concentric spheres that look solid,
Just like Onions with layer after layer,
Nothing found when peeled,
But, Everything when properly lived!

Solid looking spheres are not solids,
They are energy layers,
waves of different pattern and kinds,
Ah! Look they are of different layers,

Matter that matters us,
is not the matter,
It is energy layers,
May be children or kiths and kins,
What we look is that
How we look,
How we look is what we are!

Our house is not our house until we own,
Our body is not ours,
Our mind is not our own,
Our soul is not ours,
Until we own and master it!

Our goal is not our goal,
Goalless we can't live,
Only goal we find here is peaceful coexistence,
peaceful exit from this Life's cage,
It is not the cage but the stage on which,
Hell or heaven built or felt!

From The Pulpit To The Pew

Fill us with your power Lord, from the pulpit to the pew,
Reach down and touch all of those whom you foreknew.

Move back into our hearts Lord and push all our wills aside,
Allow The Spirit to take over, as He's the One who lives inside.

Thank you for The Holy Spirit Lord, who you sent down from above,
Let Him speak to our hearts about Christ's compassion and His Love.

Please Lord, as a church put us back on that narrow but right track,
And forgive us for knowing so much, while we simply turn our back.

The power to change everyone is in The Word and in your name,
We need to share The Word, as many are ignorant of God, to our shame.

Please change our shame into examples, like those you once did send,
Help us to reach out with boldness Lord, to our family and a friend.

You saved us for this purpose Lord, at the moment of our salvation,
To go out and preach The Gospel to every person, tribe, and nation.

The early church made such an impact with this single state of mind,
Christ's return was so real; they dare not leave anyone left behind.

Please wake us out of our slumber, for a world that's truly in need,
For His coming is now nearer then when we first heard and believed.

So please reach down and touch us Lord, all whom you foreknew.
We need your power for this purpose Lord, from the pulpit to the pew.

John, I'm Only Dancing Again (1974 Single)

Dancing
I'm having so much love
Dancing
Too bad my back had gone
Dancing
Boogie down with daddy now
I'd give my house in the country
If you'd slept it's so funky
Music
I'm dancing in the street
Ooh music
I've torn the shoes from my feet
Romancing
It's got me dirty and sweet
It's got me reeling and rocking
Won't you let the slender thing in
Rolling
I think it's all I can do
Rolling
Just got me feeling you too
Rolling
Get a little take a little
Get a little back
Jumping John the great goose is gone
Got a lion in my hand
Got a Charlie on my back
John
I'm only dancing
She turns me on
I'm only dancing
She turns me on
Don't get me wrong
I'm only dancing
I'm only dancing
Dancing
Have you heard the news
Dancing
President has got the blues
Dancing
I tell you comfortably
If he gives it to you
He'd better take it from me
Said Sir
I pick up the bones
Said Sir
Leave the numbers alone
Said Sire
Get off your telephone
Look the people in the eye
Tell them my oh my
Let your backbone slide
Buddy whistle and cry
John
I'm only dancing
She turns me on
I'm only dancing
She turns me on
I'm only dancing
I've lost my feet
Don't get me wrong
I'm off on my way
I'm only dancing
Please dance with me
I'm only dancing
Please dance with me
I'm only dancing
Dancing
I'm only
Dancing
I'm only
Dancing
I'm only

I was lifted up again
I was lifted up again by the lord
And no matter where I roam
I will find my way back home
I will always return to the lord
In the gentle evening breeze
By the whispering shady trees
I will find my sanctuary in the lord
I was headed for a fall
The I looked up and saw the writing on the wall
Like a full force gale
I was lifted up again
I was lifted up again by the lord

At The Shore Of Chendur

That you feel you're a captive
Globed for the Lord's pastime
In circles of benighted spheres
Immessurable your anger I know
From your abysmal depths oh, ocean
As you surge and surge to a tsunami
You're receded albeit agonized
A waste of chaos you roll on
On your inability to touch the Lord

What you think, I am? same and alike
A captive of oceanic emotions
Ebbing, ebbing tsunami-high agitated
Just to decline to fear's feet
A mistake of an unseen creatrix
This life ours for the Lord's pastime
Behold, those captive-crowds ever tearful
In vain attempt to wash the Lord's feet
Here I await my turn as you do..when is it?

Sonnet: God Made Us Divinely

0 take my body, mind and heart; they're yours;
0 take them Lord, before I destroy them;
0 take my soul back ‘fore I sin more, Boss;
Give me a soul of stone, not priceless gem.

0 take my special senses back, my God;
I misused them so frequently since birth;
0 take my every dropp of blood back, Lord;
Before I spill it uselessly on earth.

0 take the precious life back that you gave;
The devils make me sin so easily;
I wish I go to live just in a cave;
They understand me not, my family!

God, allow Death to lay its hands on me;
I wish to quit earth, early, heavenly.

Awake!

God said, 'serve',
But I chose to run.

God said, 'stop! ',
But I was having too much fun.

Then God said, 'come! ',
And willingly, I came.

Soon after that,
My life began to change -

God said 'give',
But I said 'get'

God said 'live',
But my path lead to death.

God said 'Listen! '
'And My laws, do abide.',
But I didn't hear Him,
For my heart was too full of pride.

But then I heard a story,
Of how Jesus died for me.

I learned that He served,
He listened,
And gave up all,
So we could have life,
And have it more abundantly.

I discovered that God had a calling
Upon my life,
And that He,
Had plans to prosper me,
And not to harm me -
Plans to give me a hope, and a future.

I found out that all have sinned,
And fallen short
Of the glory of God.

That meant I, too
Was a sinner,
And my soul was hell bent!

If I wanted to be in Heaven
With God when I died,
I needed to believe -

That Jesus is God in the Flesh,
He is the Messiah,
He is God's Son,
The perfect and spotless one,
The Way, the Truth, the life -
The atonement and sacrifice
To save my soul.

I needed to relize
That for forgiveness of my sin,
Jesus had to be crucified,
Hung on a tree, and left to die.

I Must confess with my mouth
That Jesus is Lord,
And that He died,
That He was Buried,
And on the third day,
Jesus rose and conquered the grave!

So, What could I do? ,
But repent
And ask Jesus to be
Lord of my life.

I knew I must surrender all,
So with reckless abandon,
I did.

I know I must answer the call,
To let all
People know
Of Jesus' sacrifice,
Which is the purchase of their soul
Back from sin and spiritual death.

There is is a reward in heaven,
For what is given up now,
To surrender your life to Jesus.

Take up your cross daily,
And follow Him,
For he is Saviour of our soul!

And what ever be left
Here to rot and mold,
Will be replaced anew.
T'will be your reward in Heaven,
Manifested tenfold!

But when you meet Jesus in Heaven,
T'will be brighter than the sun!

He will look you in the eye
To tell you,
'My servant, well done! '

Tears of the Gods!

Once he wore his nine-tasselled towel
around his hip bearing a drum at front of his midrif
he would sing aloud to invoke Lord Ayyanar,
half-buried at the outer base of the bund
of our village rain-fed tank,
to help him beating the drum
for moving the feet of his three daughters
with parrot-topped brass pots over their heads.
People near and far took his troop
at the time of festivals, being mesmerized
by the mavis of his dancing angels. 11

But he never gave up the service
of drumming up on the ghouls-howling tank bund
when the moon was out and hid.
The sound could be heard
by the sleepless elders of our village.
He would swim across the river
and reach the village on the other bank

to alert them for raising the river-bank,
and escape the wrath of the swelling river,
when floods from the western ghats
came in a roaring fury
and made a breach in the tank bund. 23

Covering himself with a hessian to bear the cold,
he would sing seeking the grace of the Lord
to save him from the hoodwinking elves
and protect the tank from breaching
Or else the paddy fields would be going dry.
Once he fell ill and lay at home.
The morning brought him news of a miracle.
Some theatre-goers to the nearby town
who came back after midnight,
asked him why he went unheeded
with a spear in his hand
in that dead of night on the bund.
The tank-keeper shed tears
thinking of the feat of the Lord on his behalf. 36

The breeze ruffling the watery surface
would lull him to sleep;
but snakes on the bund would hiss at him;
and he would dither and dodder along
humming the name of the Lord several times.
When thunder rumbled, he would shout
“Arjun had ten names” to thwart it.
Dredging leaves and flowers over the idol,
he would offer his thanks and prayers
and walk his way home in the small hours.
His forefathers had hewed out this career
for some sheaves of reaped paddy
at the time of harvest from every family.
But God willed to relieve him from this duty
by giving him only daughters.
Leaving them at his hovel in the night
he would go to guard the bund. 53

Once the inflow to the tank was heavy
and the bund breached and overflowed the river.
He swam across the violent river as usual
to reach the other bank for waking up his villagers.
He had hair-breath escapes in the past
yet he served for his family’s pride.
The cloudy dawn brought his sad daughters
on the northern bank of the river
while the whole village was looking silent
into the merciless river from the southern bank.
An old one said he heard his shouts in the night.
Another said he came in his dream drumming aloud.
But was nowhere found the nine-tasselled drummer.
Rains seem reluctant to pour in that region
and there has been no question of a successor
to that wonderful keeper of our village tank. 69
