On This Day...
white ants have been at it
while some other breathing beings
have been excavating the earth
underneath the mast...
yet, every year
in a ritual you, i and all
stand in solemn salutation
and in unison cry:
'mera bharat mahaan! '
jaihind!

A visit To Sankarankoil
Whizzing breeze was moist..
In happy mood whirring thoughts
Got unkempt fluttering freakishly on my head
And I had to tuft them tight onto a vow often
Extra special, desirous my heart
This time on 'Independence Day'decisive
To perform 'archana' for my Mother only
To the Goddess, mother of my 'Mother Bharat'
Silly, selfish it sounds, 'bless me, bless me'
Sworn into Her domain selfless hereafter
So to be expiating hitherto wrong
Lub-dub-ing was my heart 'JaiHind, JaiHind'
A bulky welcome, straight into the precincts
We were pushed to find partly, partly
Dining, playing, gossipping, quarelling, roaming
Aloof also queuing to worship bulks and bulks
Somewhat a bridgeless, sober ambience ungodly
Evinced an emptiness alone a stir of indifference
Crushed in jostle habitual performing in urgency
Revelation..'God is untouchable ever'..yet diehard
Hurt heart fell before the flagmast wearied
Enigmatic..people or the creator..heaved a sigh
Got up to feel a fall of a rain droplet on me
Mahatma's tears...? JaiHind, JaiHind

Bharat Versus India
India that is Bharat
Is not same as
Bharat that is India.
Bharat no more with India
India no more with Bharat
India can not substitute Bharat.
I am insearch of Bharat
And Bharat is no more with me.
I am an Indian
And I am proud to be an Indian.
Alas!

Made In India
Made in India
They stirred the smart children
to get ranks,
to fill banks,
to join money race,
to forget humanity trace!
Children are grown up
They don't inhale petals of rose
spends nights with heavy booze
They don't see sunrise,
their elbows raise with sensex raise,
Least bothered about 'East',
tries to settle in the west,
They don't salute to 'National Flag',
Always surrenders to 'Statue of Liberty',
They have dollar dreams,
underneath indian screams,
we are indian,
Mera Bharat Mahan!

50th Independence Anniversary
With pomp
Will storm
The next century
‘Selfless' politicians stake
Fifty years thence
When liberty commenced
Half the populace
Under weight of illiteracy bent
Some lift their heads
The medivial warlord
Snatches their crunch
Under the weight of mighty state
Play truant
Chaos create
Fill their tummies
Which never inflate
In one stroke
Can claim
Precious life
Freely can move around
Corrupt to the core
Jealousy abounds
Stand on the ramparts
To claim

The Red Ants...
The red ants are not red...
They are blacks hired
To mow down their own
Out of sinkholes
Onto pavements
The red ants are not ants...
They are human beings reduced
To machines that bulldoze
Those whose plight they share
For a meal
Note: In the City of Johannesburg, the poor occupying the innercity's delapidated buildings (so-called sinkholes) are forcefully evicted by armies of men in red overalls (popularly known as the red ants) , clearing the buildings as part of the inner city regeneration programme...

Pukllay Harmony Restoration Blood Battles
sport many sports
embody a ritual of combat
trial by body muscles
instead of blood
letting battles in times
of repetitive wars
Andean festival of Pukllay
incorporated a time of ritual battles
between neighboring communities
‘Yawar Mayu' offering river of blood
in restored harmony cleansed a years
ill will between neighboring communities
conquering Spanish outlawed
community ritual battles of Pukllay
continued in remote Andean regions
battles were held at boundaries
between neighboring communities
men from the two communities
gathered to ritual battles fight
while women would sing songs
encouraging their local men
to stand to be brave to not
fear the river of blood
as battle took various forms
two opposing neighboring sides
might throw hard unripe fruit
or men might form opposing lines
strike neighboring men
with their warak'a slings
or fight close with staffs
what was aim important
some blood must be spilt
as an offering to Pachamama
blood offerings
to the great Being
who is mother earth
blood offerings
to the Apus
the Beings
who are majestic
mountain peaks
to Sacred Sites
what if a man died
during ‘Yawar Mayu' fight
a ritual rare event
his body was buried
as further offering on site
to the sacred Beings
in many modern sports skill
courage endurance even blood
is offered up in necessary games
there is a human need to vent
frustrations disharmony ill will
community balance restored

Salutation
In one salutation to thee, my God,
let all my senses spread out and touch this world at thy feet.
Like a rain-cloud of July
hung low with its burden of unshed showers
let all my mind bend down at thy door in one salutation to thee.
Let all my songs gather together their diverse strains into a single current
and flow to a sea of silence in one salutation to thee.
Like a flock of homesick cranes flying night and day
back to their mountain nests
let all my life take its voyage to its eternal home
in one salutation to thee.

Warrior Red-Ants
I crushed some warrior-ants to death,
And wondered what, others would do;
And very promptly, came more ants
To investigate scene of crime!
These ants build nests upon the trees,
By gluing leaves with strange substance;
Their nests look like army barracks,
With sentry-ants guarding smartly!
The dead ants lay all strewn about;
A few of them were moving still;
And very soon, they too lay dead,
Like soldiers killed in battle-field!
The scout ants went from ant to ant,
Perhaps in search of ones alive;
Some went back fast to convey news
About the tragedy they saw!
And very soon, arrived more ants
To check if dead were truly dead;
Somehow, these ants smelt death itself;
They did it so effortlessly!
Each one of them lifted the dead,
By proboscis and sped back home;
Each ant with carcass upon mouth,
Ran back as fast as legs carried.
And in a trice, the dead were cleared;
The scene of crime was clean by now;
The work was finished in moments;
Yes, ants are truly busiest!
Oh, what respect ants show their dead!
How fast they rescue comrades hurt!
They proved they respected their dead;
Do human beings do like-wise?

Death
Death is a pleasant term!
Yes is normal course
Leave this world for a better world
All the experience pays
The breathing ones always talk of your deeds, but good
For them the void will never be bridged
Normal death is an ideal
In our holy Bharat
In our holy Bharat
Satan is all pervading.
His, His arms have been cut
His senses rust
Then why give him so much thrust
To bear all the brunt
Pray not for him, built not for him
Hypocrisy is all this
Pray for your actions
Pray for your work
Pray for your natural death
So pleasant in the end.

5 For U
soothing winds
swaying on the river
river on ripples
penetrating
first rays of the sun
pond tickled!
baked earth
first summer showers
earth's perfume wafting
sunflowers stand in
silent salutation
radiant sun!
heaven comes down
morphes into nature
splash of colours

The Hair
The ritual evanesced when we observed it,
The ritual completed when our lice grew.
The head was full of lice, I hear them and saw each of them,
Restraining the children with feet, the arms also.
Inexorable lice swayed in the hair of our heads
Until the ritual was entire.
What is this ritual?
The ritual is of the dressing of hair,
Or the cutting of hair by the hairdresser.

Of Ants and Life
…guess me correct
of ants and life they connect
causing a traffic jam on their trails I cannot forget
of ants as they swam from tree barks to get
a source of existence cannot let
the ants in drought to starve
for food is what they have once collected
and stored;
that which none has never rejected
nor objected
of ants and life
the futuristic species
that know when to pick up the pieces
of anything,
and the guard ants making sure nothing misses
from whence it were piled and stored
of ants and life ‘am never bored
as I observed how they nod
in respect and honor on board
as they pass each other a hustle they accord
of ants and life as they seek to conform
to a life in all its form
if ants can manage their own
why can’t we not of our own?

Unison
Somewhere tonite we come alive
Two hearts ignite we're one of a kind
Here we are undivided by anything
Just you and I
We've come so far no one else could ever
Steal away what we confide
Who wasn't to know?
We stick together we're never apart
Everybody knows who we are
Because we are one we do it in Unison
We come together and stronger we are
Just when the world can tear us apart
We go on as one we do it in Unison
Gleam of an eye

seeta ram ki dharti hai jo
aisa bharat desh hamara
Hai bharat ki shaan tiranga
isse na ghukne denge ham
veeron ki kurbani ko
vartha na jane denge ham
Na jaati na bhasha dekha
sabko apna meet banaya
ho bangladesh ya pakistan
hamne sabko gale lagaya
di sharan hamne sabko
jab koi hai sankat aaya
bhookhe rahkar bhi hamne
padhosee ko khana khilaya
bharat ma ke sewak hain ham

Sonnet: Ants Too Are Great
The Ants too serve the Lord in greater ways;
If not for them, who will devour the dead
Of flora, fauna? Nobody them pays;
But that is how they work and get well fed.
They work much more than any human soul;
Their little brains can think a lot of things;
Never-ending, they labor for a goal;
Suff’ring adverse conditions, Nature brings.
What unity exists within the clan!
They worked in unison in disaster;
They are so industrious, much more than man;
For body size, they run even faster.
Man has to learn many lessons from the ants;
They live much satisfied with lesser wants.

The Fury Of Rain Storms
The rain drums down like red ants,
each bouncing off my window.
The ants are in great pain
and they cry out as they hit
as if their little legs were only
stitched on and their heads pasted.
And oh they bring to mind the grave,
so humble, so willing to be beat upon
with its awful lettering and
the body lying underneath
without an umbrella.
Depression is boring, I think
and I would do better to make
some soup and light up the cave.

60th Republic Day Celebrations in India (Jan 26th 2010)
Unfurl the tricolor flag, Indians!
And hoist it high upon the mast;
And let it move in freedom’s wind;
And make the country, Indians, proud!
Salute the national flag, Indians!
And sing the song of freedom’s love!
Remember how freedom was won
By Fighters’ Struggle, sacrifice!
Pray for the lives lost in the fight,
And emulate their examples;
Learn to be patriotic more,
And do your duty with fervor.
Take oath to serve our motherland;
Bharat is home of Indians;
We love its varied heritage;
All Indians are our fellowmen!
Let’s foster love, peace, harmony;
Let’s make the country better still;
Let’s unite against terrorism;
Let’s make India, a nation strong!
Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!

Sonnet: All Things Have a Purpose
A wild tree grows for ants to be its guests!
Old water-tank helps frogs spawn, croak each year;
A neem tree grows for birds to build their nests;
The refuse-dumps rear insects sounding ear.
The cut tree-trunks help white ants eat and breed;
The papayas help birds to beak with joy;
On wild berries, squirrels happily feed;
The tall palm-trees house pea-fowls to enjoy.
The wilder trees add greenness to the earth;
The wild flowers give nectar to wild bees;
The parrot-noise though disturbing, gives mirth;
His duty to His creatures all, God sees.
Don’t blame something if you can’t understand;
God knows the uses of the desert-sand!
