Rosalind

Rosalind has come to town!
All the street’s a meadow,
Balconies are beeches brown
With a drowsy shadow,
And the long-drawn window panes
Are the foliage of her lanes.

Rosalind about me brings
Sunny brooks that quiver
Unto palpitating wings
Ere they kiss the river,
And her eyes are trusting birds
That do nestle without words.

Rosalind! to me you bear
Memories of a meeting
When the love-star smote the air
15
With a pulse’s beating:
Does your spirit love to pace
In the temple of that place?

Rosalind! be thou the fane
For my soul’s uprising,
Where my heart may reach again
Thoughts of heaven’s devising:
Be the solace self-bestowed
In the shrine of Love’s abode!

Rosalind: Like to the Clear in Highest Sphere

1 Like to the clear in highest sphere
2 Where all imperial glory shines,
3 Of selfsame colour is her hair,
4 Whether unfolded or in twines:
5 Heigh ho, fair Rosalind.
6 Her eyes are sapphires set in snow,
7 Refining heaven by every wink;
8 The gods do fear whenas they glow,
9 And I do tremble when I think:
10 Heigh ho, would she were mine.

11 Her cheeks are like the blushing cloud
12 That beautifies Aurora's face,
13 Or like the silver crimson shroud
14 That Ph{oe}bus' smiling looks doth grace:
15 Heigh ho, fair Rosalind.
16 Her lips are like two budded roses,
17 Whom ranks of lilies neighbour nigh,
18 Within which bounds she balm encloses,
19 Apt to entice a deity:
20 Heigh ho, would she were mine.

21 Her neck, like to a stately tower
22 Where Love himself imprison'd lies,
23 To watch for glances every hour
24 From her divine and sacred eyes:
25 Heigh ho, fair Rosalind.
26 Her paps are centres of delight,
27 Her paps are orbs of heavenly frame,
28 Where Nature moulds the dew of light,
29 To feed perfection with the same:
30 Heigh ho, would she were mine.

31 With orient pearl, with ruby red,
32 With marble white, with sapphire blue,
33 Her body every way is fed,
34 Yet soft in touch, and sweet in view:
35 Heigh ho, fair Rosalind.
36 Nature herself her shape admires,
37 The gods are wounded in her sight,
38 And Love forsakes his heavenly fires
39 And at her eyes his brand doth light:
40 Heigh ho, would she were mine.

41 Then muse not, Nymphs, though I bemoan
42 The absence of fair Rosalind,
43 Since for her fair there is fairer none,
44 Nor for her virtues so divine:
45 Heigh ho, fair Rosalind.
46 Heigh ho, my heart, would God that she were mine!

Eyeless is lifeless.

Love at first sight takes place by eyes.
Child communicates with mother merely by eyes.
Between lovers, between couples,
Warmth and cold often waft through eyes.
You woo a girl by her eyes.
Tacit look of Rosalind made Orlando
Conquer the wrestler, Charles.
Lips can talk but eyes only reach.

To Long and Pine

Love shines in pursuits and separations.
One must long and pine to taste the love.
Union of love is the food eaten.
Pursue like Rosalind and pine like Juliet.

Be it there, albeit unyielding

‘Hang there my verse in witness of my love’,
said Orlando, inscribing on each bark in the woods,
‘Rosalind’, the name of his unbidden beloved.
‘Stay there my verse in witness of my love
For the unbidden lady, to be seen by our common friends,
By which, by which only, I shall be elated.

Love is the strong motive.

To face the contempt of the beloved,
And to not face the fury of the authority
Are the two strong motives that propelled
All men who had surged to grow great.

Rosalind’s concern for Orlando
Made him fight Charles, the wrestler,
And changed his thought of laying life..
Her love spurred him to action.

The Pearl Of Great Price

The pearl of great price was waiting...
In matchless majesty...
And he had no hesitating,
When he that pearl did see!
The merchant vowed that he would buy
The best that he could find
And so there was no asking why,
No doubt within his mind!

As with a perfect precious girl,
Like Esther in her day,
He fell in love with that pure pearl
And chose not to delay!
He ran to sell his treasures fast,
This best of all to own,
This blessing that was unsurpassed
That in the sea had grown...

When Jesus told the multitudes,
They smiled at what He said,
Because it changed their sullen moods
And thrilled their hearts instead!
To think, God's Kingdom costs much more
That Jesus bled and died,
To save lost souls, both rich and poor,
With love, arms open wide!

Through Calvary we learn so much!
We know that God forgives!
We know God grants His healing touch!
We know Lord Jesus lives!
We know the Holy Spirit shares
Himself with saints on Earth...
That's why the Father hears our prayers...
God knows how much we're worth...

To think, He would not spare His Son!
To think, He let Him die...
To think, through Christ lost souls are won,
Before the end draws nigh...
Thus Heaven waits each child of grace,
Who seeks to serve the King...
And blessed are those that see His face,
For He means everything...
