The population center of the USA
Has shifted to Potosi, in Missouri.
The calculation employed by authorities
In arriving at this dislocation assumes
That the country is a geometric plane,
Perfectly flat, and that every citizen,
Including those in Alaska and Hawaii
And the District of Columbia, weighs the same;
So that, given these simple presuppositions,
The entire bulk and spread of all the people
Should theoretically balance on the point
Of a needle under Potosi in Missouri
Where no one is residing nowadays
But the watchman over an abandoned mine
Whence the company got the lead out and left.
'It gets pretty lonely here,' he says, 'at night.'

Oh, shenandoah, I long to hear you
Look away, you rollin river
Oh, shenandoah, I long to hear you
Look away. were bound away
Across the wide missouri
Now the missouri is a mighty river
Look away, you rollin river.
Indians camp along her border
Look away. were bound away
Across the wide missouri
Well a white man loved an indian maiden
Look away, you rollin river
With notions his canoe was laden
Look away, were bound away
Across the wide missouri
Oh shenandoah, I love your daughter
Look away, you rollin river
It was for her Id cross the water.
Look away, were bound away
Across the wide missouri
For seven long years I courted sally
Look away, you rollin river
Seven more years I longed to have her
Look away, were bound away
Across the wide missouri
Well, its fare-thee-well, my dear,
Im bound to leave you

Hawaii
Do you wanna go
Straight to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Straight to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
I heard about all the pretty girls
With their grass skirts down to their knees
All my life I wanted to see
The island called hawaii
Go to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Straight to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
Now I dont know what town youre from
But dont tell me that they got bigger waves
Cause everyone that goes
Comes back with nothing but raves
Thats in hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Thats in hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
And pretty soon this winter
Theyll hold the surfing championship of the year
Surfer guys and girls
Will be coming from far and near
Go to hawaii
(hawaii) hawaii (hawaii)
Go to hawaii (hawaii, hawaii)
Oh do (honolulu, waikiki) you wanna come along with me
(do you wanna come along with me)
And you now (honolulu, waikiki)
You wanna live hanah lee
(do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooo ooo (honolulu, waikiki)
Ooo ooo ooo (do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooo ooo (honolulu, waikiki)
Ooo ooo ooo (do you wanna come along with me)
Ooo ooooo (honolulu, waikiki)

Shenandoah
Oh Shenandoah,
I long to hear you,
Away you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah,
I long to hear you,
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah,
I love your daughter,
Away you rolling river,
I'll take her
'cross your rollin' water,
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
'Tis seven years
since last I saw you.
Away you rolling river,
'Tis seven years
since last I saw you.
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah,
I love your daughter,
Away you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah,
I'll come to claim her.
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
In all these years,
Whene'er I saw her,
We have kept
Our love a secret,
Oh! Shenandoah,
I do adore her,
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah,
She's bound to leave you.
Away you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah,
I'll not deceive you.
Away, I'm bound away
'Cross the wide Missouri.

Received call not binding.
My option is mine
Whatever with you to say
Come where I am residing.
And you know there is no place

I Walked Last Night In A District I Lived In For Almost Twenty Years
I WALKED LAST NIGHT IN A DISTRICT I LIVED IN FOR ALMOST TWENTY YEARS
I walked last night in a district I lived in for almost twenty years
I came back after being away for a time
To visit an old and ailing friend
The streets were empty and lonely as they often were then-
I thought for the first time I understood how lonely the district itself is-
‘A lonely district’
I wondered how I managed to live there all those years
And how anyone still manages to live there-
I looked up at the sky and wrote in my mind a small poem of a kind I wrote many of in my years there
I remembered teachers and friends who had lived there
No longer of this district or any district on earth
I wondered how life goes and how from so many years so much life has been lived without having any place in my memory
I felt as empty inside as the district without
I did not have to wait long for the bus
And relieved inside it I put my heart to home
So many years had been lived there
I remembered taking my small children to the playground there
Now they thank G-d have children of their own
Oh the years go by and the life we have lived in them largely dies
Forever to be unknown again-
I put my heart and mind in a different direction
And began to do what I always do – not think of the district again
Life is this mystery and question we live through and never wholly possess even as we are experiencing it
How long before all will be gone for me
Including the district I live in now?

Route 66
If you ever plan to motor west
Take my way that's the highway that's the best,
Get your kicks on route 66.
Well, it winds from chicago to l.a.
More than 2000 miles of motorway,
Get your kicks on route 66.
Well, it winds from st. louis down to missouri
Oklahoma city looks mighty pretty.
You'll see amarillo, gallup, new mexico,
Flagstaff arizona, don't forget pamona,
South park garden and san bernardino.
Would you get hip to this kinda tip
Baby take that california trip,
Get your kicks on route 66, oh!
Well, it winds from st. louis down to missouri
Oklahoma city looks mighty pretty.
You'll see amarillo and gallup new mexico,
Flagstaff arizona, don't forget pamona,
South park garden and san bernardino.
Would you get hip to this kinda tip
Yeah baby take that california trip
Get your kicks on route 66
Get your kicks on route 66,
Get your kicks on route 66, yeah,
Get your kicks on route 66,
You wanna get your kicks on route 66, yeah, yeah.

Alaska & Me
This song appears on three albums, and was first released on the higher ground album, and has also been released on the gift you are and the john denver collection - calypso albums.
When I was a child and I lived in the city
I dreamed of alaska so far away
And I dreamed I was flying over mountains and glaciers
Somehow I knew Id live there one day
Well it took me some growin, and a fair bit of schoolin
And a little bit of trouble to get on the move
And I felt like a loser but I turned out the winner
When I came to alaska the land that I love
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me
I was born in a cabin on little mulchatna
Raised in hard times but I had a good life
From the first time I flew with my father a singin
I knew that Id wind up a bush pilots wife
We sleep near the sound of a slow running river
And wake up most mornings to a drizzling rain
And we face every day like the first or the last one
With nothin to lose and heaven to gain
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me
Oh, for the fire on a cold winters night
And once more to gaze at the great northern lights
For all of the beauty my children will see
Heres to alaska and me
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me

My Direction-Just For You
Once upon a time you were WES Wynwood-yes you were-
Shoutin' out of Missouri way...!
But then like a chameleon lizard--
You up and changed your name in: 'Word Play'..-;
Now they say less is oft' more...!
And peoples words give away many things-
I am very sure that is true now-
'Cause its your words that new information brings! ;
So thank you-thank you information man! -
For helping along on this day of days...
More words from you- that are oh so true-
Have so helped us all today;
The sun is out and shining...! ! !
Brighter even than the day before...! ! !
'Cause you finally broke your silence-!
We now know what we're looking for! ;

Happy Hawaii
Early this morning I drove in the rain
Out to the airport to get on the plane
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
Alice has been there, she said it was fun
Swimming and surfing, enjoying the sun
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
After all Ive had to go through
Im making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance
Guess Ive been working a little too hard
Need a vacation, Ill send you a card
From honololu, a greeting from happy hawaii
Its so exciting, why should I pretend
In a few hours the plane will descend
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
I can imagine the beach and the sand
Walking with someone and holding his hand
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii
After all Ive had to go through
Im making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance, mmm
Ive got a feeling the dream will come true
Somebodys waiting and Ill forget you
Hey honololu, were going to happy hawaii

Blue Hawaii
(words & music by leo robin - ralph rainger)
Night and you
And blue hawaii
The night is heavenly
And you are heaven to me
Lovely you
And blue hawaii
With all this loveliness
There should be love
Come with me
While the moon is on the sea,
The night is young
And so are we, so are we
Dreams come true
In blue hawaii
And mine could all come true
This magic night of nights with you

I'm Doin' Alright
Whoo!
I got a spot in the country.
I got a dog in the yard.
I got a beat-up Chevy:
Rust kinda rough but she starts.
I got my Grandaddy's shotgun:
I can shoot pretty good.
I got a nice little garden of weeds,
Tucked back up in the wood.
An' I'm doin all right, livin' my life:
You got yours an' I got mine.
Yeah, it may not look like much to you,
But it's simple an' it suits me fine.
Yeah, the sound of the rain an' a lonely old train:
Listen to that engine whine.
'Cause I am what I am an' I sleep good at night,
An' I'm doin' alright.
I got a front porch for pickin',
I got a National guitar.
I got some lightnin' for sippin':
I've had about a jar.
I got a pretty old lady,
She's good at stretchin' a dime.
In this little corner a-heaven mister,
We have a helluva time.
An' I'm doin all right, livin' my life:
You got yours an' I got mine.
Yeah, it may not look like much to you,
But it's simple an' it suits me fine.
Yeah, the sound of the rain an' a lonely old train:
Listen to that engine whine.
Yeah, I am what I am an' I don't give a damn,
An' I'm doin' alright.
Instrumental Break.
All the rats in the city,
Are livin' out of a box.
They look down their nose, at my life, I suppose,
An' I just laugh my country ass off.
Yeah, I'm doin all right, livin' my life:
You got yours an' I got mine.
Yeah, it may not look like much to you,
But it's simple an' it suits me fine.
Yeah, the sound of the rain an' a lonely old train:
Listen to that engine whine.
'Cause I am what I am an' I sleep good at night,
An' I'm doin' alright.
Yeah, I'm doin' alright.
Doin' alright!

Paradise, Hawaiian Style
(words & music by bill giant - b. baum - f. kaye)
Hawaii, u.s.a., hawaii..u.s.a..
Were flyin, comin your way
Aloha, hawaii u.s.a.
Gee its great, to be in that fiftieth state
The land of enchanted dreams
What an isle, where its heaven tropical style
Where love weaves a spell, it seems
Hawaii, u.s.a., hawaii..u.s.a..
Were flyin, comin your way
Aloha, hawaii u.s.a.
Gee what fun, just to swim and surf in the sun
While the trade winds caress the sea
What a sight, those exotic scenes of delight
Are waiting for you and me
Hawaii, u.s.a....hawaii...u.s.a...hawaii..u.s.a....
