The Men Who Live It Down

I have sinned, like others, blindly, without thought and without fear,
And my best friends say it kindly, ‘You should go away from here.’
Shall I fly the paltry spirit of a narrow little town,
While the battle-drums are beating for the men who live it down?
Down the street where all men know me I can walk with level eyes,
They believe the lies about me, they can sneer, but I despise.
From my black and bitter childhood, from my dull and joyless youth,
It is I who—it is I who—I and Christ who know the truth!

I have sinned, but as a man might; like a man I’ll rise again
From long nights of mental torture, from long days of care and pain.
Pass me by with eyes averted, with a shrug or with a frown,
But their heads shall bow in ashes long ere my head shall go down!

Ah! the curs, who dare not trespass, quick to sneer and quick to blame;
But the wider world is kinder—it takes long to damn a name.
There’s a heart that’s worth a million and a head that’s worth a crown,
And the flash of bright eyes sometimes for the men who live it down.

There’s a hand-grip close and silent, firm in trust and sympathy,
Sends the old thrill through my being, sends the old hopes up in me.
There is one who’ll stand beside me when the screen is round my bed,
And the godly pass their stricture on the sinner who is dead.

When the crape is round my picture and my mad, wild spirit’s free—
And you realise how little you have ever known of me
When the worst is said and printed by the coward and the clown,
Then, I trust, a friend might answer—‘There lies one who lived it down.’

To Jack

SO, I’ve battled it through on my own, Jack,
I have done with all dreaming and doubt.
Though “stoney” to-night and alone, Jack,
I am watching the Old Year out.
I have finished with brooding and fears,
Jack, And the spirit is rising in me,
For the sake of the old New Years, Jack,
And the bright New Years to be.

I have fallen in worldly disgrace, Jack,
And I know very well that you heard;
They have blackened my name in this place, Jack,
And I answered them never a word.
But why should I bluster or grieve,
Jack? So narrow and paltry they be—
I knew you would never believe, Jack,
The lies that were said against me.

That is done which shall never be undone,
And I blame not, I blame not my land,
But I’m hearing the Calling of London,
And I long for the roar of the Strand.
It was always the same with our race,
Jack; You know how a vagabond feels—
We can fight a straight man face to face, Jack.
But we can’t keep the curs from our heels.

You know I loved women and drink, Jack,
And that’s how the trouble began;
But you know that I never would shrink,
Jack, From a deed that was worthy a man!
I never was paltry or mean, Jack.
And cruel I never could be,
I will give you a hand which is clean,
Jack, When we meet again over the sea.

I will bring a few wrinkles of care,
Jack; I have altered a lot, I am told;
The steel-filings show in my hair, Jack;
But my heart is as young as of old.
I have faith still in women, and men, Jack,
Though selfish and blind they may be.
I still have my soul and my pen, Jack,
And my country seems dearer to me.

I will sail when your summer sets in, Jack,
And good-bye to my own native land;
Oh, I long for a glimpse of your grin, Jack,
And I long for the grip of your hand.
We both suffered sorrow and pain, Jack,
And sinned in the days that are done;
But we’ll fight the old battle again, Jack,
Where the battle is worth being won.

Anywhere Like Heaven

When I walk along your city streets
And look into your eyes
When I see that simple sadness
That upon your features lies
If my spirit starts to sink
It comes as no surprise
Its been a long way from anywhere
Like heaven to your town, this town
Theres a pasture in the countryside
I used to call my own
Theres a natural pillow for my head
The grass theres overgrown
I think of that place from time to time
When I want to be alone
Its been a long way from anywhere
Like heaven to your town, this town
Now, people live from day to day
But they do not count the time
They dont see the days slipping by
And neither do i
Now, people live from day to day
But they do not count the time (you know)
They dont see their days slipping by
And neither do i
When I walk along your city streets
And look into your eyes
When I see that simple sadness
That across your features lies (I see lies)
If my spirit starts to sink
It comes as no surprise
Ive come a long way from anywhere
Like heaven to this town, your town

Brainwashed

And so we begin with another sun
The earth's enslaved with hypocrites
They lay their heads to rest at night
Say a little prayer and all is right
Christ it's nothing personal
You've got to see
They twist and turn your words
For their own needs
They're brainwashed puppets
The almighty crutch
Cowards of reality
And their dying love
Living life in total lies
Judging others
Believe that I say or burn in hell
Bow down your head
You won't feel so bad
Do as I say or burn in hell
Close your eyes, look deep inside
Master of the ignorant
Master of the lies
Judgment day is close at hand
Generate that blasphemy
Master of the damned
Lies
Now behind your reflection
Lies the one who knows the truth
Your conscience will condemn you
On judgment day you'll lose
It seems very odd to me
How you sin and feel so free
And all you have to do is say
Forgive me ... I believe
Lies, foolish lies
Behind your brainwashed eyes
Lies, foolish lies
Behind your brainwashed eyes
Judge me not my shallow friend
Lest ye be judged yourself
You abuse the words you preach
You mold them for yourself
Brainwashed hypocrisy
Justifies the life you lead
Forgive me father I have sinned
Lay my head to rest again
Living life in total lies
Judging others
Believe what I say or burn in hell
Trust in me, say yes I believe
Do it now or burn in hell

My God Is Good To Me

My God my God is so good to me, if only other men could really see.
If only they would open their eyes to see who reigns above the skies.
If they looked they would surely see just how my God watches over me.
My God walks with me everywhere to show me how much He truly cares.

He guides me each and every day as He gently shows me a better way.
Christ died to take away my sin so that I could live my life for Him.
He leads me in the path I trod for my life to glorify The Living God.
If I choose another path to take, my life I know God won’t forsake.

Christ is with me to the end of time, for I am His and He is mine.
Not only is He with me to the end, my Lord even calls me His friend.
He’s not a god far out in space, as He came to show Love and Grace.
And He’s not a god man can’t reach, that is what we’re here to teach.

He is a God from far and wide, and from our God no man can hide.
Neither does He hide His Love, as He sends it down from up above.
And this love to earth that He sends changes the very heart of men.
Men who were lost and deceived, with The Spirit are able to believe.

Christ came with His life to give so we could have New Life to live.
You too can have New Life in Him, no matter how much you’ve sinned.
He’s forgiven all your past behavior and He wants to be your Savior.
Just come to God in Christ’s Name and He’ll be sure to make a change.

The Spirit has no small part, as He lives in every believer’s heart.
It is Christ’s Spirit that lives in me and how God has set me free.
Today accept Christ into your heart and you too can have a new start.
And then my friend you could see just how good my God can truly be.

Only One Truth

What Jesus Christ did for you, no other religious leader could do,
And what He does in the eyes of all, will indeed, be their downfall.
For only Christ died for all men, while they were to be condemned,
And only He will be returning again, as Lord and Savior of all men.

Many people, in ignorance proclaim, a salvation in another’s name,
Exalting a man and his cause, that’s filled with many spiritual flaws.
If they’d only read God’s Word, they’d see Truth that they’ve heard,
The Eternal Truth, men need to fear, as God’s Judgment is so near.

Until then many others shall come, in the Name of God’s Only Son,
Depicting scripture in a different view, with a darker, religious skew.
But God has only one Revelation, One Truth that leads to salvation,
From His Only Son, Jesus Christ, in whom men receive Eternal Life.

There is another spirit, not of God, sent throughout this earthly sod,
And Satan’s the prince down here, deceiving men both far and near.
God’s Spirit is through Jesus Christ, who alone was God’s Sacrifice,
And He sends His Spirit to all of us, who in God have put their trust.

We were warned by God, in love, that not every spirit is from above,
And not to be by men deceived, when Truth, they have not received,
But, by His Spirit receive Truth, so, not to see God’s strong reproof,
And from all deception be set free, to live with God through Eternity.

Long Live Rock

Down at the astoria the scene was changing,
Bingo and rock were pushing out x-rating,
We were the first band to vomit in the bar,
And find the distance to the stage too far,
Meanwhile its getting late at ten oclock,
Rock is dead they say,
Long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
People walk in sideways pretending that theyre leaving,
We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins,
Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in hong kong,
Promoters in the pay box wondering where the bands gone,
Back in the pub the governor stops the clock,
Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
Landslide, rocks are falling,
Falling down round our very heads,
We tried but you were yawning,
Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.
The place is really jumping to the high-watt amps,
til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps,
In the blackout they dance right into the aisle,
And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles,
Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock,
Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

Pearls To Swine

Friend, evil lurks on all sides and in man’s heart is where it hides.
The Word of God these men despise, believing they are truly wise.
Flattered by their own mind friend, they disregard all that’s said.
They boast of all they understand but build their lives upon the sand.
And if they don’t open their eyes they are headed for eternal demise.

Don’t cast your pearls to swine for by these men truth is denied.
Men like this must be ignored according to the wisdom of our Lord.
The Truth is handled by these men by trampling under foot my friend.
And friend they are not truly wise but caught in Satan’s web of lies.
Christ Himself will set them straight when He sends them to their fate.

They can’t see through Satan’s disguise and they feed upon his lies.
Lost in ignorance or in pride but from God’s Truth they can not hide.
Satan is the villain who lied, for even these men, Christ Jesus died.
Knowledge is Satan’s disguise, replacing The Truth with worldly lies.
Deception is one of his best tools for changing wise men into fools.

These men think that we’re deceived and we were before we believed.
Then God opened up our eyes to see that only in Christ are we free.
Freed from the bondage of sin that the whole world finds itself in.
Proudly puffed up they won’t remain but only men who are Born-Again.
All men who live for Jesus Christ, from Him will receive Eternal Life.

These men by God are not ignored and will be destroyed by The Lord.
The Lord God is not mocked my friend, as all men will see in the end.
And the fool who says there is no God will be judged by His Iron Rod.
For out of such an empty deduction, he will reap Eternal Destruction.
Of the world with no Godly desire they’ll be cast into the Lake of Fire.

The Alleys

I was welcome in a palace when the ball was at my feet,
I was petted in a garden and my triumph was complete.
But for me above the alleys there forever shone a star,
Where the third-rate public houses and the dens of Venus are.
Where the third-rate public houses
And the fourth-rate lodging houses,
And the rag-shops and the pawn-shops and the dens of Venus are.
I was born among the alleys, bred in darkness and in doubt,
And I wrote the truth in blindness and I struggled up and out;
And the world was fair before me and the way was wide and plain,
But the spirit of the alleys ever dragged me back again.
’Tis a madness I inherit
And a blind and reckless spirit.
Oh! the spirit of the alleys ever drags me down again!

There were fair girls in the garden where the spring came in a day,
But the barmaids in the alleys know a wider world than they.
There were wise men in the palace who were born to rule the earth,
But the wrecks amongst the alleys know the world for what it’s worth.
To the pewter from the chalice,
To the slum from the palace,
Aye! the wrecks sunk in the alleys know the world for what it’s worth!

Poets who have done with puzzling—men who talk but dare not think—
Men who might have moulded nations had it not been for the drink!
Wicked stories full of humour—shafts of wit that seldom miss,
Shot from blighted lips of women that the bravest dare not kiss?
Let the worst girl lead the revels
Of the reckless alley devils!—
Pure and virtuous women often, often drive men down to this.

In the days of mental torture when my life was all a hell,
It was down amongst the alleys that I learnt the tales I tell,
From the black-sheep out from England, from the boozer in from Bourke,
From the tired haggard women bending over needle-work:
Tales of wrongs, that fire the spirit,
Tales of more than human merit,
Told in quiet tones and measured, bending over needle-work.

Oh! the pathos and the humour of the shifts of poverty,
Oh! the sympathy of drunkards, wit and truth and charity,
Oh! the worn-out working women and the lives that they endure,
And the hard and callous kindness of the poor unto the poor!
(Where they blame not—those who labour—
And the prostitute’s a neighbour)
Ah! the humour and the courage and the kindness of the poor!

There is fire down in the alleys that has smouldered very long;
There is hatred in the alleys born of centuries of wrong;
And no prayer wins to heaven like a prayer from the slums,
And the thrones of empire totter when the alleys beat their drums.
(Ah! the world is very rotten!
But my sins shall be forgotten
And my work shall be remembered when the alleys beat their drums.)

It is down amongst the alleys, in the alleys dull and damp,
They find kindness in a scoundrel, they find good points in a scamp.
It is down amongst the alleys, now my star has ceased to shine,
I find sympathy with sinners and can hide what shame is mine,
For we trust and shield each other
And a sinner is a brother—
There are souls amongst the alleys who were lost the same as mine.

And if you should some day miss me, and should care to wonder why,
Ask for me amongst the alleys by the name they knew me by:
Mind your head and pick your footsteps for you’ll grope in alley gloom,
And the stairs are steep and narrow where they’ll lead you to a room.
What if floors are foul and dusty
And the air is close and musty?
In the days when I was noble then I wrote in such a room.

You will see a chair and table dimly shown by candle light,
And the pen I dropped for ever from the last line I shall write;
And some poor attempts at comfort, and a bottle—and maybe
You will find a bad girl crying over what is left of me:
Call no friends—I shall not need them;
Call no priests—I shall not heed them—
Let the bad girl do the praying over what is left of me.

All That I Give

Why do you hate me?
Why does he hate me?
Why does she hate me
And all I want to be?

I want to be alive
I want to be dead
I want to survive
And scream 'Off with my head! '

My hair is blonde
My hair is black
You're dead and gone
So don't come back

My eyes are brown
My eyes are blue
I always frown
When I see you

You make me scream
You hurt my pride
You bust my seams
From deep inside

You want me alive
You want me dead
You want me to survive
Yet scream 'Off with her head! '

I've cried for you
I've lied for you
I've given it all
That which led to my downfall

I've told you the truth
And given you lies
And all the rest
I hide deep inside

So go screw yourself,
You greedy damn whelp!
And don't come back
'Cause I won't help!

You wanted the truth?
Well, here it is:
You don't deserve me
And all that I give

You won't get me back
As long as I live
I'm on the attack
I'll get back what I give

I've given you life
I've given you lies
I've given you hair
I've given you eyes

I've given you smiles
I've given you frowns
With you I have been
Through the ups and downs

But enough is enough!
I'm done with you now!
You don't deserve love;
You disgusting, selfish cow!

Crazy World

(b.andersson/b.ulvaeus)
First release 1976
I was out for the morning sun
Couldnt sleep so I thought Id take a walk
I was thinking of you and me
And I went to your house cos I had to talk
I could hardly believe my eyes
When I saw this guy closing your front door
Had a feeling of emptiness
Like Ive never had before
And I close my eyes
Will you leave me, girl?
And I realise
Its a crazy world
As he disappeared in his car
I was stunned and I didnt know what to do
Everything I had ever been
Everything in my lifes a part of you
And I just couldnt move my feet
So I stood on the pavement as you came out
You acted as you didnt know
What it was all about
And I close my eyes
Will you leave me, girl?
And I realise
Its a crazy world
Baby how could you do it
You just told me lies
Had you been behind my back with other guys?
Baby how could you tell me
There was only me
I was stupid to believe you
I was blind but now I see
Then you smiled and you took my hand
there is something, you said, that you may not know,
Theres a couple of men in my life,
And one of them is my brother joe.
Hes been gone for a long long time
But hes back and I think hes gonna stay,
Youll be seeing a lot of him
Hes so nice in every way.
And I close my eyes
Never leave me, girl
And I realise
Its a crazy world
So I close my eyes
Never leave me, girl
Then I realise
Its a crazy world

In The Days When The World Was Wide

The world is narrow and ways are short, and our lives are dull and slow,
For little is new where the crowds resort, and less where the wanderers go;
Greater, or smaller, the same old things we see by the dull road-side --
And tired of all is the spirit that sings
of the days when the world was wide.

When the North was hale in the march of Time,
and the South and the West were new,
And the gorgeous East was a pantomime, as it seemed in our boyhood's view;
When Spain was first on the waves of change,
and proud in the ranks of pride,
And all was wonderful, new and strange in the days when the world was wide.

Then a man could fight if his heart were bold,
and win if his faith were true --
Were it love, or honour, or power, or gold, or all that our hearts pursue;
Could live to the world for the family name, or die for the family pride,
Could fly from sorrow, and wrong, and shame
in the days when the world was wide.

They sailed away in the ships that sailed ere science controlled the main,
When the strong, brave heart of a man prevailed
as 'twill never prevail again;
They knew not whither, nor much they cared --
let Fate or the winds decide --
The worst of the Great Unknown they dared
in the days when the world was wide.

They raised new stars on the silent sea that filled their hearts with awe;
They came to many a strange countree and marvellous sights they saw.
The villagers gaped at the tales they told,
and old eyes glistened with pride --
When barbarous cities were paved with gold
in the days when the world was wide.

'Twas honest metal and honest wood, in the days of the Outward Bound,
When men were gallant and ships were good -- roaming the wide world round.
The gods could envy a leader then when `Follow me, lads!' he cried --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

They tried to live as a freeman should -- they were happier men than we,
In the glorious days of wine and blood, when Liberty crossed the sea;
'Twas a comrade true or a foeman then, and a trusty sword well tried --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

The good ship bound for the Southern seas when the beacon was Ballarat,
With a `Ship ahoy!' on the freshening breeze,
`Where bound?' and `What ship's that?' --
The emigrant train to New Mexico -- the rush to the Lachlan Side --
Ah! faint is the echo of Westward Ho!
from the days when the world was wide.

South, East, and West in advance of Time -- and, ay! in advance of Thought
Those brave men rose to a height sublime -- and is it for this they fought?
And is it for this damned life we praise the god-like spirit that died
At Eureka Stockade in the Roaring Days
with the days when the world was wide?

We fight like women, and feel as much; the thoughts of our hearts we guard;
Where scarcely the scorn of a god could touch,
the sneer of a sneak hits hard;
The treacherous tongue and cowardly pen, the weapons of curs, decide --
They faced each other and fought like men
in the days when the world was wide.

Think of it all -- of the life that is! Study your friends and foes!
Study the past! And answer this: `Are these times better than those?'
The life-long quarrel, the paltry spite, the sting of your poisoned pride!
No matter who fell it were better to fight
as they did when the world was wide.

Boast as you will of your mateship now -- crippled and mean and sly --
The lines of suspicion on friendship's brow
were traced since the days gone by.
There was room in the long, free lines of the van
to fight for it side by side --
There was beating-room for the heart of a man
in the days when the world was wide.

. . . . .

With its dull, brown days of a-shilling-an-hour
the dreary year drags round:
Is this the result of Old England's power?
-- the bourne of the Outward Bound?
Is this the sequel of Westward Ho! -- of the days of Whate'er Betide?
The heart of the rebel makes answer `No!
We'll fight till the world grows wide!'

The world shall yet be a wider world -- for the tokens are manifest;
East and North shall the wrongs be hurled that followed us South and West.
The march of Freedom is North by the Dawn! Follow, whate'er betide!
Sons of the Exiles, march! March on! March till the world grows wide!

Your thoughtful posture

I see your thoughtful posture
I see you disturbed a wee bit
I see words in the tip off tongue….
I see your refrain from speaking your heart……
I see your anguish
I see the turmoil within clear
I long to walk the last few steps
I long to have you speak your mind
I long to have your trust and confidence
I long to give all you wish
No energy of this world
Would have the power to stand between
For two hearts who understand
Have the greatest strength
In tensile thought….
This world knows off
The hankering heart
Will wake up in peace
Your troubles in waters washed
Trust me my love…
Trust me…..
Take me into the inner circle closer to heart
Trust me to warm you with my love
I would faithful yours for ever remain
I would care understanding pain

Long Live Love

(valerie avon/harold spiro)
Long, long live love
Love is to care
Caring and sharing
Long, long live love
All the kids like ten tin soldiers in a row
Followed hand in hand
Sister anna carrying the banner for the sally annie band
Singing songs of praise and glory
We all learn to love their story
Good things are coming to you
Glory, glory hallelujah
Long, long live love
As long as we live
Living and giving
Long, long live love
On a wet day, dry day, great to be alive day
Brother takes the stand
Cymbals ringing, everybody singing with the sally annie band
Just a band of happy people
Teaching, preaching love is equal
When you feel the spirit move you
Glory, glory hallelujah
Long, long live love
Love is to care
Caring and sharing
Long, long live love, love, love, love, love
Ohhh
Long, long live love
As long as we live
Living forgiving
Long, long live love

Jealous Skies

[intro]
Um, oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, baby girl, baby girl
Oh, baby girl, baby girl
Oh yeah, yeah, alright
(yo, who you talkin to? )
So who you on the phone with?
Are you talkin to your girlfriends?
You know they kinda shady
Dont believe what they say lady
(come take a walk with me)
Long walks in the park
Kisses after dark
Promises from the heart
Beepin 911
When you call, Ill run
Love takes me to your arms
Now you say that Ive changed
But its you whos acting strange
When I gave my heart
I swore it was forever
So if this is the rain
Love will get us through the pain
Ill stand by your side
Through the stormy weather
Baby trust your heart
And put it in my hands
Jealous friends will only tell you lies
Put your faith into someone who really cares
Cuz your friends, they live in jealous skies
Baby tell me why, oh why
The truth needs alibis
Seems a good man cant win
And even when your friends
Pushed up on your ten
I would not freak us in
Now you say that Ive changed
But its you whos acting strange
When I gave my heart
I swore it was forever
So if this is the rain
Love will get us through the pain
Ill stand by your side
Through the stormy weather
Baby trust your heart
And put it in my hands
Jealous friends will only tell you lies
Put your faith into someone who really cares
Cuz your friends, they live in jealous skies
If you got a question thats burning in your heart
Question your love and the vows you made from the start
Check your inner feelings
Cuz they will never lie to you
Cuz Ill be around girl, forever down
And Ill always be true to you
Baby trust your heart
And put it in my hands
Jealous friends will only tell you lies
Put your faith into someone who really cares
Cuz your friends, they live in jealous skies
Baby trust your heart
And put it in my hands
Jealous friends will only tell you lies
Put your faith into someone who really cares
Cuz your friends, they live in jealous skies
Baby trust your heart
And put it in my hands
Jealous friends will only tell you lies
Put your faith into someone who really cares
Cuz your friends, they live in jealous skies

After All

The brooding ghosts of Australian night have gone from the bush and town;
My spirit revives in the morning breeze,
though it died when the sun went down;
The river is high and the stream is strong,
and the grass is green and tall,
And I fain would think that this world of ours is a good world after all.

The light of passion in dreamy eyes, and a page of truth well read,
The glorious thrill in a heart grown cold of the spirit I thought was dead,
A song that goes to a comrade's heart, and a tear of pride let fall --
And my soul is strong! and the world to me is a grand world after all!

Let our enemies go by their old dull tracks,
and theirs be the fault or shame
(The man is bitter against the world who has only himself to blame);
Let the darkest side of the past be dark, and only the good recall;
For I must believe that the world, my dear, is a kind world after all.

It well may be that I saw too plain, and it may be I was blind;
But I'll keep my face to the dawning light,
though the devil may stand behind!
Though the devil may stand behind my back, I'll not see his shadow fall,
But read the signs in the morning stars of a good world after all.

Rest, for your eyes are weary, girl -- you have driven the worst away --
The ghost of the man that I might have been is gone from my heart to-day;
We'll live for life and the best it brings till our twilight shadows fall;
My heart grows brave, and the world, my girl, is a good world after all.

Age of Grace

Now is the time of God’s Favor, today dear friend, not tomorrow,
Today accept Christ as Savior, and eternally you’ll see no sorrow,
This is the day of God’s Salvation, an offer by God to everyone,
Given through God’s Revelation, Jesus Christ, His begotten Son.

Today He’ll hear you as you call; as you’re moved by His Grace,
To save you from Adam’s fall, as you seek the Light of His face.
God’s made a way, for all men, to live with Him in Heaven above,
As we stand today condemned, He saves us in the Savior’s love.

In this Age of Grace which we live, God sent His Son to all of us,
To man, with eternal life to give, to all who in Him place their trust.
And the Lord comes to live within, each and every believing heart,
As Christ saves us from all sin, to be the friend who won’t depart.

New Life Christ gives to all men, this to live anew upon this earth,
This as they are Born Again; born of God through a spiritual birth.
God sends The Spirit, as our guide, as we begin to live New Life,
The Spirit helps us to abide, in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

All that we need, we get from God, as He sustains us, every day.
God helps us on this earthly sod, to walk along life’s narrow way.
All you need to do is to believe, in the Grace from God’s Throne,
And you too, Christ will receive, as God makes you His very own.

I Don't Trust Me Around You

Writer Bill Owens
Copyright 1967
You're standing much too close to me again
I've never once touched you but in my mind I've already sinned
You're making it hard for me to be true I don't trust me around you
Seems like every place I go I'll see you there
I can't keep my eyes off you I just stand and stare
You tempt me more than anyone I ever knew I don't trust me around you
I don't trust me around you I belong to someone else not once have I been untrue
But when I'm close to you this way I find myself want it to
I don't trust me around you
I don't trust me...
No I don't trust me around you

Nimmo

Since you remember Nimmo, and arrive
At such a false and florid and far drawn
Confusion of odd nonsense, I connive
No longer, though I may have led you on.

So much is told and heard and told again,
So many with his legend are engrossed,
That I, more sorry now than I was then,
May live on to be sorry for his ghost.

You knew him, and you must have known his eyes,—
How deep they were, and what a velvet light
Came out of them when anger or surprise,
Or laughter, or Francesca, made them bright.

No, you will not forget such eyes, I think,—
And you say nothing of them. Very well.
I wonder if all history’s worth a wink,
Sometimes, or if my tale be one to tell.

For they began to lose their velvet light;
Their fire grew dead without and small within;
And many of you deplored the needless fight
That somewhere in the dark there must have been.

All fights are needless, when they’re not our own,
But Nimmo and Francesca never fought.
Remember that; and when you are alone,
Remember me—and think what I have thought.

Now, mind you, I say nothing of what was,
Or never was, or could or could not be:
Bring not suspicion’s candle to the glass
That mirrors a friend’s face to memory.

Of what you see, see all,—but see no more;
For what I show you here will not be there.
The devil has had his way with paint before,
And he’s an artist,—and you needn’t stare.

There was a painter and he painted well:
He’d paint you Daniel in the lion’s den,
Beelzebub, Elaine, or William Tell.
I’m coming back to Nimmo’s eyes again.

The painter put the devil in those eyes,
Unless the devil did, and there he stayed;
And then the lady fled from paradise,
And there’s your fact. The lady was afraid.

She must have been afraid, or may have been,
Of evil in their velvet all the while;
But sure as I’m a sinner with a skin,
I’ll trust the man as long as he can smile.

I trust him who can smile and then may live
In my heart’s house, where Nimmo is today.
God knows if I have more than men forgive
To tell him; but I played, and I shall pay.

I knew him then, and if I know him yet,
I know in him, defeated and estranged,
The calm of men forbidden to forget
The calm of women who have loved and changed.

But there are ways that are beyond our ways,
Or he would not be calm and she be mute,
As one by one their lost and empty days
Pass without even the warmth of a dispute.

God help us all when women think they see;
God save us when they do. I’m fair; but though
I know him only as he looks to me,
I know him,—and I tell Francesca so.

And what of Nimmo? Little would you ask
Of him, could you but see him as I can,
At his bewildered and unfruitful task
Of being what he was born to be—a man.

Better forget that I said anything
Of what your tortured memory may disclose;
I know him, and your worst remembering
Would count as much as nothing, I suppose.

Meanwhile, I trust him; and I know his way
Of trusting me, and always in his youth.
I’m painting here a better man, you say,
Than I, the painter; and you say the truth.

Pass This Way

We shall not pass this way again
Spoke the old man to his friend
For many lives, we have known
And many children, we've seen grown.
As you walk a path but one time
And though it seems the same
Every road has a different meaning
And every teardrop, a different pain.
We have sinned and saw sin
We have hated and we we had friends
But now we shall all be judged,
For when we hated, should we have loved.
Should we had fought, when we fled
Should we had watched when we had sinned
Should we had cried when we bleed,
I don't know, for we shall not come again.
When we go through life, this one time
We should do the best that we could
Live a life, and be its pride,
And be ready for judgement, when we die.
You pass this way but one time
You live a life but one time
You can help a soul but one time,
And one time, is all that is asked.
So when you pass this way again
Never be in a hurry when you walk by
Be you a woman or be you a man,
It never ever hurts, to only but try.
