Gentleness
The price to be gentle is sometimes steep
And at times it even make you weep
Some try to use, others abuse
Which make you bereft and then bemused
And like sudden rain on a public fair
Chagrin's dark cloud reappears
Being gentle is soft they say
Yet strength there lies in so tender ways
Unrelenting restraint against all odds
Cathartic redemption, in it stands
Gentleness, a gift, a priceless gem from natures glow
The fountain where nobility flows
Its virtue, is a diamond to behold
Hidden in an opaque and dusty earth, pure and bold
Forever seeking, never deceiving
Helping those, who are desperately needing

The Vaudois Teacher
'O Lady fair, these silks of mine
are beautiful and rare,-
The richest web of the Indian loom, which beauty's
queen might wear;
And my pearls are pure as thy own fair neck, with whose
radiant light they vie;
I have brought them with me a weary way,-will my
gentle lady buy?'
The lady smiled on the worn old man through the
dark and clustering curls
Which veiled her brow, as she bent to view his
silks and glittering pearls;
And she placed their price in the old man's hand
and lightly turned away,
But she paused at the wanderer's earnest call,-
'My gentle lady, stay!
'O lady fair, I have yet a gem which a purer
lustre flings,
Than the diamond flash of the jewelled crown on
the lofty brow of kings;
A wonderful pearl of exceeding price, whose virtue
shall not decay,
Whose light shall be as a spell to thee and a
blessing on thy way!'
The lady glanced at the mirroring steel where her
form of grace was seen,
Where her eye shone clear, and her dark locks
waved their clasping pearls between;
'Bring forth thy pearl of exceeding worth, thou
traveller gray and old,
And name the price of thy precious gem, and my
page shall count thy gold.'
The cloud went off from the pilgrim's brow, as a
small and meagre book,
Unchased with gold or gem of cost, from his
folding robe he took!
'Here, lady fair, is the pearl of price, may it prove
as such to thee
Nay, keep thy gold-I ask it not, for the word of
God is free!'
The hoary traveller went his way, but the gift he
left behind
Hath had its pure and perfect work on that high-
born maiden's mind,
And she hath turned from the pride of sin to the
lowliness of truth,
And given her human heart to God in its beautiful
hour of youth
And she hath left the gray old halls, where an evil
faith had power,
The courtly knights of her father's train, and the
maidens of her bower;
And she hath gone to the Vaudois vales by lordly
feet untrod,
Where the poor and needy of earth are rich in the
perfect love of God!

Gentle Morning Rain
You are as the gentle morning rain
Giving life to all that here below remain
Your scope unlimited across this earth’s terrain
Each speckled spot of moistness
Alights on my face with a gentle wakefulness
Awakening me to your love and gracefulness
In the gentle morning rain.
Your mid day sunlight melts the gentle rain
Your warmth over all of us does reign
The light by which we see and then attain
Each blessed ray of light illuminating
And revealing all that needs our understanding
Even in the dark your eternal light reflecting
You melt the gentle morning rain.
Your afternoon wind carries the gentle rain
Your breath gives us all our life to sustain
Our minds are cleared as you breathe again
Each gasp of breath breathed with life’s zest
How many breaths are measured for this chest
Before all my worldly goods I must bequest
You carry the gentle morning rain.
And when the evening comes that gentle rain
Is still present here, as love it does remain
In the twilight of this day it never goes away
Your love that is the gentle morning rain.

Buy Me a Rose
Buy me a rose, Buy me a rose
Buy me sweet reasons to be forever close
Tender me with words propose
Wear my heart on your sleeves
for i am the rose you chose
Reveal your gentle pose
Make me your fair lady before chairs and doors
Buy me a rose, Buy me a rose
And out for a dozen for me he goes
Past mountain high and wild river flows
I must be i suppose
His romantic quest and cause
Buy me a rose, Buy me a rose
Venture deeper into me
make me eternally yours
Share with me the gift my belly grows
suddenly loving me his world not knows
And in to the distance sails as the new wind blows
Buy me a rose, Buy me a rose
Better yet maybe not
a precious one in me grows

Platinum
Shadows only shade,
Not produce a single light...
On a path one makes.
Seeking to hide behind those shadows,
May welcome more grunts to stunt...
With additional heartaches that come to break.
Get up and shine,
Like you're platinum.
Glow and radiate.
Get up and glisten.
Like a priceless diamond.
Gleam in the mix and celebrate.
Shadows only shade,
Not produce a single light...
On a path one makes.
Keep it there,
As if you are platinum.
Share whenever you choose.
Sparkle bright like a diamond,
And strut like you've got new shoes!
Shadows only shade,
Not produce a single light...
On a path one makes.
Seeking to hide behind those shadows,
May welcome more grunts to stunt...
With additional heartaches that come to break.
Get up and shine,
Like you are platinum.
Glow and radiate.
Get up and glisten.
Like a priceless diamond.
Gleam in the mix and celebrate.
Keep it there,
And strut around like you're platinum.
Keep it there,
Radiate and celebrate.
Keep it there...
To blind the eyes like a diamond,
Fresh and priceless...
And never out of date!
Or rated as fake!
Keep it there,
Like you're platinum.
Keep it there,
To radiate!
Keep it there...
To blind the eyes like a diamond,
Fresh and priceless...
And never out of date!
Don't forget about titanium,
Your next move to make.
And strut around like you're platinum.
Keep it there,
Radiate and celebrate.
Keep it there...
To blind the eyes like a diamond,
Fresh and priceless...
And never out of date!

Early Works - Mary
With profile profound
and mind sound.
With eyes soft and tender
and a build slender
lips soft and warm
with tender caresses planted firm
so gentle, so fine,
so nice and so kind.
Hair shoulder length
with a gentle hand of strength
if perfection were real
to be surely this description
would describe one - agree.

From the juvenile nativity of this work, I can only guess it was something I wrote just after I started writing in the early 1960s.

A Rainy Day
Slipping through the open sash.
Cool wet freshness
draws me from the depth
of my slumber's darkness.
The gentle cadence
of falling rain.
Its soft pelt splashing
upon the window pane.
Coursing down
the glass transparency.
Rivulets of wetness
distort the world outside I see
A canopy of leaves
keeps dry a nest
of fledgling birds.
While they rest.
Bright golden sun
now hidden away.
By gray clouds
whose visit pay.
The rain they bring
falls on dry earth.
To cleanse and quench
coax forth rebirth.
On a rainy day
the world I see.
Quiet soft gentle
A world of peace to me.

Some Raindrops On The Roof On The Leaves Of The Bushes
it is a rainy day today.
rain falls unceasingly on the rooftop
tracing the hidden ways of the gutter
falling gently on pines and leaves
of gentle bushes planted beside
a steel gate
painted red.The time comes
when the rain is so gentle and slow
pouring in rhtythm with the swaying
of the palm leaves
every dropp like the meeting
of a dew to another dew
glistening before my eyes
gentle sounds of raindrops
in cadence like a hammock
a swing like the flapping of
a pegion's wings
as i write this poem

Shrouded Vale
A pure white shroud of mist manifest
The dark secrets we try to keep repressed
In a creeping vale of fog
we hide a deep emotional bog
In the smoke of raging flame
It hides the only one to blame
In a hot and damp steam
We hide all of our malicious dreams
In a cloud of dust we hide
While all the violence slowly subsides
In a gentle cloud we weep
Trying to wake us from our endless sleep
In the rain we bear inside
All the pain we try to bide
At the bottom of a lake
We reminisce of the times we faked
In the middle of winter’s frost
In the wake of a crashing wave
We mourn for all the lives we lost
And dream of all the lives we saved

To mother with love...
An angel thou art
Beauty personified
Those gentle fingers
Those soulful eyes
A smile so gorgeous
A touch so soft
A prayer on thy lips
And answers aloft
Thy kiss so loving
Thy love so pure
Our pain in thine eyes
Thou so bravely endure
And a hug so warm
And a faith so deep
And a whisper to god
No fears to weep
And a life so unconditional
And a caress to assure
Of thy love and thy being
Of those unpaid gifts galore
A balm for each heart
A kiss for each tear
Our gift from heaven
To shield each fear
Then why do we hurt thou
And make thy cry
So ruthless, so cruel
But still not a sigh
And yet thy loves
And yet thy cares
And hopes and wishes
And add us to thy prayers
Oh, why art thou so gentle
Oh why so kind
Thou could go so much further
And leave us all behind
Holding my hands so gently
Thou then doth sighs
With that twinkle so lovely
In thine lovely eyes
Thoust uttered not a word
And yet said so much
Those gentle eyes told it all
Along with that gentle touch
And so thy stand
My mentor, my guide
To lead us all to eternity
My mater, our pride.

Evening Thoughts
How beautiful
The calm earth resteth in her quiet sleep!
There are no sounds of human life abroad,
And the soft voice of that one bird, whose plaint
Melteth upon the ear so soothingly,
Seems but the low breeze moulded into sound.
The shadows of the trees distinctly lie
Upon the earth unstirring, and no breath
Comes whispering among the tender leaves,
To wake them into playfulness.
The sky
Bendeth in loveliness above the earth,
With a few clouds drawn o'er it, beautiful
In the soft light, and exquisitely pure,
As if they knew no other home than heaven.
Oh, thus it is, God of the universe!
That thou wouldst sanctify with thy rich grace,
Our erring human hearts, that we might be,
When from the earth our day of life hath pass'd,
Dwellers in that bright world where all are pure—
A world where sorrow cometh not, nor sin,
Nor the down-stooping ‘neath the oppressor's hand.
Alas! that earthly things should be so fair,
And day by day harmoniously move on
In their allotted course, at thy command,
Dutiful and unwavering from their track,
And man, man only, who alone may know
How beautiful thy ordinances are,
Mock at thy holy will, and mar his soul
With the dark stains of sin. Alas! that man,
With thy pure law unveil'd before his eyes,
Should bind the fetter on his brother's form,
And smite him with the scourge, and bid him pour
His strength out on the earth, for no reward;
And worse than this, wrench from his bleeding heart
The dearest objects of his earthly love;
And all that the oppressor's hoards may flow
With Mammon's worthless treasures; meagre dust,
Beside the priceless treasure of a soul!
Shall it be ever thus? Most Merciful!
Will man's hard heart be never touch'd with all
The o'erflowings of thy love, and yield itself
To gentle sympathies, till he shall learn
The noble joy of pouring happiness
Upon the heart of sorrow, and how sweet
The pleasure is of shedding bliss abroad.

The Price I Pay
They tell me I'm the talk of the town
I've been staying home alone every night
It's nobody's business where I'm bound
As if to be alone and lonely just ain't right
On a old freight train moving down the line
I'm counting each day every minute that you're away
I've never been the stay at home kind
But for you it's just the price that I pay
It's just the price I pay for loving you
The price I pay for needing you so much
The price I pay for needing you
And putting all this time between us
I knew I was in trouble when we met
Dark clouds all around me I couldn't find the light
These hard times ain't hard to forget
Now I believe in love at first sight
I'm putting my heart and soul on the line
I know your love is with me every day
Your picture always there on my mind
But for you it's just the price that I pay
It's just the price I pay for loving you
The price I pay for needing you so much
The price I pay for needing you
And putting all this time between us

Beauty and honesty
Beauty and honesty
Are the cash
That you spend when
Come around other men
Who wish to buy your love.
Dark hair and fair grace
Your face, soft-spoken
And gentle as to make
The poet praise
That there is no imperfection in you.
Nature could not decide
As to make you girl or boy
So it pleased her to give
The the best of each.

Divine Solitude
Her eyes divine in solitude
Painted on Autumn skin
Through opaque sky look desperately
And much to their chagrin
Find no one to reflect their glance;
No solace in the dark
And not a soul to share romance
No eyes to see her spark

April...A Hopeless Romantic
Rain rings spreading wide
Like liquid blossoms opening
To the rise of April's tide
And if one listens closely
to her gentle wind
and harkens to her showers
One hears April stealing in
To waken
Nascent flowers
Always it begins, as just a gentle patter
A tender touch
to Mother Natures shoulder
As if to say, there's naught to matter
Winter's time is done
No more… will it grow colder
I'll slake the thirst
Of frosted earth says she
And rouse the sleeping seeds
And I'll pay no mind
To what the kind
And even grace the weeds
My dewy touch
My gentle morning mist
Will caress both fields and bowers
Imbued as such
With Springtime's kiss
And the romance of April Showers

To O.E.A.
Your voice is the color of a robin's breast,
And there's a sweet sob in it like rain--still rain in the night.
Among the leaves of the trumpet-tree, close to his nest,
The pea-dove sings, and each note thrills me with strange delight
Like the words, wet with music, that well from your trembling throat.
I'm afraid of your eyes, they're so bold,
Searching me through, reading my thoughts, shining like gold.
But sometimes they are gentle and soft like the dew on the lips of the eucharis
Before the sun comes warm with his lover's kiss.
You are sea-foam, pure with the star's loveliness,
Not mortal, a flower, a fairy, too fair for the beauty-shorn earth.
All wonderful things, all beautiful things, gave of their wealth to your birth.
Oh I love you so much, not recking of passion, that I feel it is wrong!
But men will love you, flower, fairy, non-mortal spirit burdened with flesh,
Forever, life-long.

An Angel's Lie
Forever more, the blessed be
Forever falling, they shant desire
Forever waiting, the angels sigh
Forever needing their golden lyre
To sing their songs of sweet redemption
While we wait in our hallucination
And tasting of the fire of eternal damnation
And while we linger in our amiable deception
And though the blood of our martyrs has been split
The scars on our souls will never fade
Though we preach of good will and prejudice to none
The bond holding our lives has at last been frayed
Looking at you reminds me of such
These deadly gazes hold the key
Yet like light to flies I linger in your dark glow
In your shallow heart of pleasure and hidden glee

To A Teacher/Poet Named Fred
i know Fred
and i remember him
he always wrote
about the rain
there was no flood in
his rain
i mean
there is no rage or anger
in him
just the gentle
shower of rain
a soft spoken kind
of rain
a patient shower
caressing fine sands
on many dark nights
when he was always alone
watching those stars
those silent stars
he loved loneliness
and loneliness loved him
he did not live
that long
he died
at forty
the rain remembered him
and in his grave
that day when he was buried
the rain, as gentle as
the early morning wind
fine feathers cotton soft
sings the last
hymn for him
it was sad & it was lonely
the flowers and
the butterflies all sighed

Shed No Tears
Don’t look for me by the graveyard stone
that stands forlornly all alone,
Don’t look here for that which remains
among this field of windswept grain.
Beside a timeless ancient oak
towering silently high above
the soft dark earth that gives it strength.
Standing securely against
these chilling gales and monsoon rains.
Sheltering that unimportant part
you mourn for here that still survives.
Do not weep my love
it’s an illusion I am not here.
For I am there by your fireside
when you’re all alone and wonder why.
I am there on those miss you nights
when you lie awake so long so softly cry.
In the child’s laughter
the tender caring smile.
In the open and gentle act
that holds out a hand
asking no thanks or pay me back.
I am there in the love and time
given to those in need,
with desperate troubled minds.
My love for you still lights a glow
that leads you on to strive alone.
To try to ease those fallen souls.
Shattered wastewood of our time.
Where personal gain, possessions, power -
are the dominant themes,
holding the spotlight
in an unbalanced hour.
The false and useless social goals
of a hedonistic, me first society,
that you now strive to change alone.
So shed no tears for me my love
for where you find a few that care,
my spirit lives,
finding comfort there.
My only sorrow was leaving you,
yet for true love our time apart
is but, for a short measure in the dark.
While time will
soon restore the bridge,
so do not cry, don’t despair.
Remember me my love
and I am there.

Seeking For Happiness
Seeking for happiness we must go slowly;
The road leads not down avenues of haste;
But often gently winds through by ways lowly,
Whose hidden pleasures are serene and chaste.
Seeking for happiness we must take heed
Of simple joys that are not found in speed.
Eager for noon-time's large effulgent splendour,
Too oft we miss the beauty of the dawn,
Which tiptoes by us, evanescent, tender,
Its pure delights unrecognised till gone.
Seeking for happiness we needs must care
For all the little things that make life fair.
Dreaming of future pleasures and achievements
We must not let to-day starve at our door;
Nor wait till after losses and bereavements
Before we count the riches in our store.
Seeking for happiness we must prize this-
Not what will be, or was, but that which is.
In simple pathways hand in hand with duty
(With faith and love, too, ever at her side),
May happiness be met in all her beauty
The while we search for her both far and wide.
Seeking for happiness we find the way
Doing the things we ought to do each day.
