Salome dancing

To remove the head from holy John
when she was near to that great saint
Salome did decide beneath a silver moon,
before that godless girl danced on.
When Salome danced before drunken Herod
that king was swept away as if enchanted
and he wanted to fall over his own feet,
while she looked really stunning,
the gleaming glance of her eye caught his
and her gruesome mother took her chance
and this is how things still go today
when a girl is prettier than the rest,
and some men realise this
and let no one admonish them.

Salome

Baby please
Baby please dont go
I got lies to feed
They want skin and seed
And dont make me crawl
Please
Baby dont bite your lip
Give you half what I got
If you untie the knot
Its a promise
Salome...salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Baby please
Baby whats that tune
Well I heard it before
When I crawled from your door
And my blood turned blue
Please
Baby please slow down
Baby I feel sick
Dont make me stick to my promise
Salome...salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Baby please
Baby dont say no
Wont you dance for me
Under the cherry tree
Wont you swing down low
Please
Baby please say yes
Baby dont go away
Youre spilling me
And your precious love

Salome

Salome, the unique daughter of Philip of Rome and Herodias,
Was the stepdaughter of the ruler of Galilee, Herod Antipas,
She wanted to find for her mother's problems a real solution
Therefore, she caused to St. John the Baptist a painful execution.

This saint had condemned the marriage of Herod Antipas
With the divorced wife of his half brother Philip, Herodias.
Herod imprisoned John, but feared this great prophet to kill,
Because to become King Herod the Great he had a goodwill.

Herodias was not mollified by great John's incarceration
And wanted to induce Antipas a great mental state of elation.
She pressed beautiful Salome to seduce him with her dance,
Thinking that her smart daughter his emotions could enhance.

Salome made him to promise to give her everything she wanted.
Dancing the 'Dance of the Seven Veils', her beautiful figure she flaunted.
Salome, thus, asked for the head of John the Baptist on a platter,
At her mother's behest, for whom nothing else could ever matter.

Herod did her bidding and that platter, to her mother, Salome brought.
Her mother won, this way, the John's head for saving her free thought.
Salome became a seductress of a stepfather and a murderer of a saint,
Herodias became a symbol of women, who can live without any constraint.

The Dance of the Seven Veils expresses the myth of the goddess Ishtar,
Also, the myth of the god Tammuz of Assyrian and Babylonian lore.
In this myth, Ishtar went in the underworld to visit Ereshkigal, her sister.
Ishtar passed through the seven gates and her power could glister.

At each gate, Ishtar had to shed an article of clothing, finally being nude.
Unleashing sixty diseases against her, Ereshkigal proved to be so rude.
Ishtar was imprisoned and all the sexual activity on earth ceased.
Papsukkal reported the situation to Ea, the king of the gods, at least.

Ea created the eunuch called Asu-shu-namir and sent him to Ereshkigal
To ask for the bag containing the waters of life, after Ishtar's last squeal.
She gave him this water and Asu-shu-namir sprinkled Ishtar, reviving her.
She came back and sent Tammuz to Ereshkigal, avoiding this story to recur.

Ishtar was associated with sexuality, her cult involved sacred prostitution,
Her city Uruk was the 'town of the sacred courtesans', place of persecution.
Although for the god Ishtar, love was fatal, she treated her passing lovers cruelly,
And the unhappy wretches, for the favors heaped on them, paid dearly.

Philip the Tetrarch was the son of Cleopatra of Jerusalem and Herod the Great.
He was the brother of Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus, he had a good fate.
He inherited north father's kingdom and by Luke (3: 1) in the Bible he’s mentioned.
He married the daughter of Herodias and Philip of Rome, that Salome so tensioned.

House Of Salome

Written by ricky & marty wilde
Shadows run in the heat of the desert
Hands beat at the door
Someone stands and calls
For the name of salome
As the veils were pushed away
He gazed upon a face
Hed never seen
Was she a dream ?
He heard the sound from a distance voice
Youd better watch out!
Youd better watch out!
He heard the sound from a thousand years
Calling out
Calling out
In the house of salome
You have to surrender
Run with her said the young handmaiden
She will be your queen
All your life youll live
In the dream of salome
Take her mouth and with your hands
Just kiss her painted lips
Dont you make a move
till salome calls you
As the music danced around the desert night
He smelt her perfumed skin
As they made love
He heard the sound of a distant voice
Youd better watch out!
Youd better watch out!
He heard the sound of a thousand years
Calling out
Calling out
In the house of salome
You have to surrender

The Giddy Girl

A giddy young maiden with nimble feet,
Heigh-ho! alack and alas!
Declared she would far rather dance than eat,
And the truth of it came to pass.
For she danced all day and she danced all night;
She danced till the green earth faded white;
She danced ten partners out of breath;
She danced the eleventh one quite to death;
And still she redowaed up and down-
The giddiest girl in town.
With one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three-kick;
Chassée back, chassée back, whirl around quick.

The name of this damsel ended with E-
Heigh-ho! alack and a-day!
And she was as fair as a maiden need be,
Till she danced her beauty away.
She danced her big toes out of joint;
She danced her other toes all to a point;
She danced out slipper and boot and shoe;
She danced till the bones of her feet came through.
And still she redowaed, waltzed and whirled-
The giddiest girl in the world.
With one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three-kick;
Chassée back, chassée back, whirl around quick.

Now the end of my story is sad to relate-
Heigh-ho! and away we go!
For this beautiful maiden's final fate
Is shrouded in gloom and woe.
She danced herself into a patent top;
She whirled and whirled till she could not stop;
She danced and bounded and sprang so far,
That she stuck at last on a pointed star;
And there she must dance till the Judgment Day,
And after it, too, for she danced away
Her soul, you see, so she has no place anywhere out of space,
With her one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three-kick;
Chassée back, chassée back, whirl about quick.

When Salome Plays The Drum

When salome plays the drum
By: jimmy buffett
1981
For salome, freddo and clauvis
When salome plays the drum
Crowd goes deaf and dumb
Swept up by dark sensations
Partially the heat
More so its the beat
She moves in syncopation
Gazelle on the run
Skirts slit past her thigh
Boys let out a sigh
The beat begins to quicken
Crowd ascends the stairs
Climbin on the chairs
The plot begins to thicken
Phasers on stun
Chorus:
Take them to the carnival (take them to the carnival)
Let them hear the conga
Tonight the tempo feels so right
Tomorrow may be wrong-a
(instrumental)
Gendarme close her down
Make her leave the town
She caught the flight to rio
Nothin to say
Wavin from the plane
Pourin pink champagne
She toasts her loyal trio
It was a lucrative stay
Ooh take them to the carnival (take them to the carnival)
Let them hear the conga
Tonight the tempo feels so right
Tomorrow may be wrong-a
Oh wont you take them to the carnival (take them to the carnival)
Let them play for hours
Tonight the weather feels so right
Tomorrow (tomorrow) feels like showers

Gut string guitar by barry chance

Something In The Air

Your coat and hat are gone
Ive really cant look at your little empty shelf
A ragged teddy bear
It feels like we never had a chance
Dont look me in the eye
We lay in each others arms
But the room is just an empty space
I guess weve lived it out
Something in the air
We smiled to fast then cant think of a thing to say
Lived with the best times
Left with the worst
Ive danced with you too long
Nothing left to save
Lets take what we can
I know you hold your head up high
Weve raced for the last time
A place of no return
And theres is something in the air
Something in my eye
Ive dance with you too long (yeah)
Something in the air
Something in my eye
Abracadoo, I loose you
We cant avoid the clash
The big mistake
Now were gonna pay and pay
The sentence of our lives
Cant believe Im asking you to go
We used what we could
To get the things we want
But we lost each other on the way
I guess you know I never wanted anyone more than you
Lived all our best times
Left with the worst
Ive danced with you to long
Say what you will
Theres something in the air
Raced for the last time
Well I know youll hold your head up high
But its nothing we have to say
Theres nothing in our eyes
But theres something in the air
Something in my eye
Ive danced with you too long
Theres something I have to say
Theres something in the air
Something in my eye
Do do do do
Do do do do
Ive danced with you too long
Do do do do
Do do do do
Danced with you too long
Do do
Danced with you too long
Something in the air
Something in the air
Do do do do
Do do do do

Salomé

The play was called Salomé, and we
Thought it was an omen when
The girl that played the leading part
Was stricken with the mumps,
So we had to get a new one, and we
Called on Mrs. Newman, who was
Thirty, going forty, and too
Large around the rump.

There was little we could choose from
In the cast, if we should lose one,
So the stand-ins were recruited from
The Geriatric Home,
There was Barney, who'd gone missing
On a trip to Little Gissing, though
His body had returned, he'd left
His faculties to roam.

Then Madge and Mavis Murray were
Recruited in a hurry to
Supply their famous curry
To the audience, at the break.
When we asked them of the Matron
She said, 'go ahead and take them! '
For the ulcers of our Patron had
Been keeping her awake.

The rehearsals were exciting, and
The changes rung like lightning
'Til the player playing Herod slipped
And fell right off the stage.
So we had to bring on Barney, who'd
Been in the British Army, but
Who didn't like the guy who played
The Prophet in the play.

They had been out there with Rommel,
One a Private, one a Colonel,
In the Regimental Journal
Barney didn't get his say.
Now he got to play King Herod who
Would see this Prophet buried
When Salomé asked the Prophet's head
Delivered on a tray.

I was worried about Barney, who
I thought a little barmy,
Then the printer spelt - 'Salami'
On the program for the play.
I was livid, I was raging,
It was so humiliating
That I almost cancelled everything
And gave the show away.

On the night they raised the curtain
Our Salomé was uncertain,
When she did the dance of seven veils
The audience had cheered.
There were only twenty seven from
The village, Little Bevington,
She'd quite forgot her underwear
And quickly disappeared.

I called for intermission while
I handled the confusion, but
The blushing Mrs. Newman wouldn't
Come back on the stage,
So she stood behind the curtain and
Called out to Barney Burton
'I only want the Prophet's head
Delivered on a tray! '

Barney seemed to quiver, almost
Like he'd lost his liver,
Then he turned toward the Prophet
And he grabbed him by the beard.
Then he pulled him right toward him
And he grabbed the Captain's sword and
Then he flashed and gashed and gored him,
I said 'Stop! ' - He never heard!

A sudden hush descended, this
Was not what we intended,
Then the sword came down to part
The Prophet from his skinny neck,
Then the head fell on the table as
The neck began to gurgle,
And the audience sat stunned until
A few began to clap.

We all were still as statues as they
Clapped and threw their hats, and so
We turned like cornered rats, and smiled,
And then we took a bow.
But then, from out the kitchen was
The clash of dish and fish in as
The Murray sisters claimed the stage -
'You want your curry now? '

The audience, long scattered, sit
At night, when people chatter, and
They talk about Salomé and
The sight they saw that night;
'When that seventh veil came orf an'
We could see it was an orphan,
Did you see her belly button - Gawd!
Now wasn't that a sight! '

I have given up directing since the
Police have quit dissecting all the
Aspects of Salomé that just
Didn't come out right.
Though I tried to resurrect it so
They wouldn't disrespect it, but
I couldn't get a man to play
The Prophet, on the night.

do not tell me the truth
with us on this lonely journey
the truth becomes
unnecessary

let us move on Salome
to find a place where we can begin again

let us leave all the sad truths behind our paths
all our tracks covered

you go ahead i will follow
i will cover your sorrow

you will still me mine less the sorrow

Came the Great Popinjay

CAME the great Popinjay
Smelling his nosegay:
In cages like grots
The birds sang gavottes.
'Herodiade's flea
Was named sweet Amanda,
She danced like a lady
From here to Uganda.
Oh, what a dance was there!
Long-haired, the candle
Salome-like tossed her hair
To a dance tune by Handel.' . . .
Dance they still? Then came
Courtier Death,
Blew out the candle flame
With civet breath.

Prima Ballerina for M lady Ernestine

I was enchanted by her grace.
The way she moved so fluidly.
A member of the human race?
It seemed to me she could not be.
Yet there she was before my eyes.
A ballerina in her prime,
who has the power to hypnotise
To look away would be a crime.
This was her farewell performance.
She seemed to defy gravity.
I’ll never have another chance.
It was as if she danced for me.
It was the same for everyone.
She danced for them and them alone.

Wedding Cake Dance

A happy girl
And a happy man
She so happy to be with him

A pretty girl
With a pretty smile

A pretty man
With pretty eyes

He danced with her
Twirled her
They both laughed

Their minds raced with how pretty they were
Atop the wedding cake

They sat and spoke
Sipped on spirits in crystal
Perfectly square

The ice danced
Crisp noise against glass
With the music

Their pretty mouths moved
Then they smiled
He fed her something sweet

He wanted to know the taste of the prettiness that he saw
She wanted him to taste the sweetness
Until She felt it
In her hips

He licked the innocence
In one single kiss
Right off of her lips

She to blush
Next to smile
Then it was over after that

A Girl Like Me

A girl like me will make your world better
A girl like me will make you happy
A girl like me will make you smile everyday.

A girl like me will surround only you in my world
A girl like me will make you laugh nonstop
A girl like me will make time for you.

A girl like me will sit and listen to your words
A girl like me will not play games with you or your heart
A girl like me will always be true to you.

A girl like me will talk to you all night
A girl like me will be the one you can count on to be there for you
A girl like me will always be down for you no matter what.

A girl like me will be the one you can put your trust in
A girl like me will make you my whole world
A girl like me will give you everything I possibly can.

A girl like me needs a king
A girl like me could be your queen
A girl like me could be your everything.

A girl like me will let you have fun
A girl like me will lay with you and just smile
A girl like me will be the one you can just hang out with.

A girl like me will be the one to hold you at night
A girl like me will be the one you can fall asleep with
A girl like me will make you see what's on the brighter side.

A girl like me will keep you outta trouble
A girl like me will be there when no one else will
A girl like me will be the one you can open up to.

A girl like me could be your world that you have been looking for
A girl like me could be right in front of you

How I Want My Girl To Be

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE SHORT, BECAUSE I WANT HER TO GET HIGHER WITH ME

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE FEARLESS, SO IN THE TIMES OF BATTLE SHE CAN STAND ON HER OWN FEET

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE A LEADER, SO SHE CAN WALK SIDE TO SIDE WITH ME

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE RUTHLESS, BECAUSE NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE STRONG, BECAUSE WHEN I AM WEAK SHE BE THE ONE CARRYING ME

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE EDUCATED, BECAUSE MATERIALS CAN FADE TODAY, BUT NO ONE CAN TAKE KNOWLEDGE AWAY

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE FAITHFUL, BECAUSE LOYALTY IS PRICELESS TO ME

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE UNDERSTANDING, NOT JUDGMENTAL BECAUSE WE ALL FACE TRIALS YOU SEE

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE SEXY, NOT SO PHYSICAL I MEAN, LIL BLACK DRESS & BRAINS IS ALL YOU NEED

I WANT MY GIRL TO BE EXACTLY WANT SHE WANTS TO BE, YOU KNOW BECAUSE ALL WOMEN ARE QUEENS TO ME…

That's exactly how I would love my girl be! I may not be a KING but I'll try my hardest to be!

The Story Of A Girl

This Is The Story Of A Girl
Who Never Ever Wanted To Grow
Who Got To Learn People Can Be Cold
The Little Girl Hates The World

This Little Girl Is Lonely And Scared
A Boy Wanted To See Her Underwear
He Promised To Never Hurt Her
But She Knows Its Just A Lie
This Little Girl Wants To Die

She Gives Him A Chance Anyways
She Really Hopes The Boy Will Stay
He Hugs Her A Lot And Makes Her Smile
But She Knows He'll Only Be Here A While

This Little Girl Is Scared Again
She Doesn't Know When This Will End
This Little Girl Would Rather Be Dead
This Little Girl Just Needs A Friend

This Little Girl Is Terrified
She Doesn't Know How Long She's Cried
The Little Girl Looks For A Knife
That Little Girl Just Ended Her Life

That Little Girl Was Me
Oh Just How Could This Be
I Thought That I Was Normal
But Now I'm Not Even A Mortal.

That Old Ghazal Moon

To hell with the stars and the seasons, I have to go look for the moon
I must verify that it's still in the sky, at least we can still share the moon

Emails with pictures and sexy descriptions of all that I could desire but you
CC your husband, your gardener and girl friends, I'm hardly over the moon

Shopping on Sunday I carried your bags, I helped you with my credit card now while you still owe me you pretend not to know me, hello I'm the man in the moon.

The party on Monday you danced with your husband you danced like you never would part. I hid in the cellar while listing to Ella and Ella was singing Blue Moon.

In the Orchard

'I thought you loved me.' 'No, it was only fun.'
'When we stood there, closer than all?' 'Well, the harvest moon
Was shining and queer in your hair, and it turned my head.'
'That made you?' 'Yes.' 'Just the moon and the light it made
Under the tree?' 'Well, your mouth, too.' 'Yes, my mouth?'
'And the quiet there that sang like the drum in the booth.
You shouldn't have danced like that.' 'Like what?' 'So close,
Whith your head turned up, and the flower in your hair, a rose
That smelt all warm.' 'I loved you. I thought you knew
I wouldn't have danced like that with any but you.'
'I didn't know, I thought you knew it was fun.'
'I thought it was love you meant.' 'Well, it's done.' 'Yes, it's done.
I've seen boys stone a blackbird, and watched them drown
A kitten... it clawed at the reeds, and they pushed it down
Into the pool while it screamed. Is that fun, too?'
'Well, boys are like that... Your brothers...' 'Yes, I know.
But you, so lovely and strong! Not you! Not you!'
'They don't understand it's cruel. It's only a game.'
'And are girls fun, too?' 'No, still in a way it's the same.
It's queer and lovely to have a girl...' 'Go on.'
'It makes you mad for a bit to feel she's your own,
And you laugh and kiss her, and maybe you give her a ring,
But it's only in fun.' 'But I gave you everything.'
'Well, you shouldn't have done it. You know what a fellow thinks
When a girl does that.' 'Yes, he talks of her over his drinks
And calles her a--' 'Stop that now, I thought you knew.'
'But it wasn't with anyone else. It was only you.'
'How did I know? I thought you wanted it too.
I thought you were like the rest. Well, what's to be done?'
'To be done' 'Is it all right?' 'Yes.' 'Sure?' 'Yes, but why?'
'I don't know, I thought you where going to cry.
You said you had something to tell me.' 'Yes, I know.
It wasn't anything relly... I think I'll go.'
'Yes, it's late. There's thunder about, a drop of rain
Fell on my hand in the dark. I'll see you again
At the dance next week. You're sure that everything's right?'
'Yes,' 'Well, I'll be going.' 'Kiss me...' 'Good night.' ... 'Good night.'

I Danced

I danced before I had two feet.
Sang before I had a tongue.
I laughed before I had two eyes.
Loved before my heart was young.
I swam before I had two hands
And held the distance in my toes.
Before I heard the stars I knew
The wild compulsion of the rose.
I bore the fruits of many lies.
Before I came into this day.
I knew before my grave was made,
The worms eat only death away
The worms eat only death away
I danced before I had two feet
I danced before I had two feet

Jochanal (after Wilde)

Now, John was not a bad looking dude-
a smelly diamond in the rough. All the same
when he snubbed her in the market place
she burned with shame.
'Mama', she complained, 'he was RUDE!
and clearly at blame.'

She was nonetheless a bit surprised,
when Herod, shaking off his trance
smiled and pledged her 'whatever'
merely for dancing a dance,
and when Mama commanded
'Child, his head'.

What could she do?
She must, as the law bid,
study to be a dutiful daughter;
so, richly scented, grazing his leg, she pled
for the simple gift
of John the Baptist's head.

The king's face fell with regret-
that was not wise,
John oddly popular, after all-
but fearing if he compromised
it would be all over town
nodded, finally, sighed

And within the hour a guard in golden greaves
returned with the head in a pail
only it wasn't handsome anymore.
The king puked and grew pale
as she fetched it out, kissed it's lips
and danced it around the hall.
