My Darling Is An Artist

My darling is an artist
who saves pictures, her impressions on a canvas
and sometimes deep things
are expressed by her mere words,

as she paints the sea green,
at times mother-of-pearl
or a dull blue
and I wonder how she does it?

With a brush she can warble
can charm and adorn things,
she can bring bewitching colours suddenly
to the early breaking day.

l'Envoi
My darling is an artist,
sometimes she muddles my whole life,
when her lips are sugary sweet
and she tells me the plain truth plainly.

The Artist's Canvas

the artist's canvas
it is similar as the world
we all strive to paint
with the redness of our blood,
the heat of our passions
and the brushes of our life

how floored we are at times
in the face of things,
how petrified when things
turn out to be red rather
than the blue of our thought

Love which I have always
perceived to be pink is
actually a warm glow of
your fair skin and veins
under the morning sun and
the translucent brown of your eyes
and also beige and
forest green so splendid
they charm the emptiness
of the grey of day away

the freshness of your breath
is a consuming white and
your touch, a trimming of the
brown of muslin for us to anchor
our ecstacy as we lock eyes

in between all these are
the wave and wave of frenzied strokes,
blobs, globs, fuzzy angles
cubes and circles that never
fail to carry us over to the rainbow,
our feet to tango, our heart to sing
and our voice to soar
of love, of sweet dates, of angels
flying over to our paths

the artist's canvas
it is inviting as life where
our imagination can cruise
beyond the ends of earth
free as a bird and rich
as all the colours on the palette

The Artist

He stands at no easel, he mixes no paint,
He colours no canvas to gladden the eye,
Yet the picture he makes will not fade or grow faint
Till our love of the chase shall desert us and die.
He's an artist of parts
Who appeals to the hearts
That can thrill to good hunting and hounds in full cry.
By his seat in the saddle, his touch on the reins,
His skill and his mastery, who can gainsay
That here is an artist in all that pertains
To the horse and his handling - a real R.A. ?
An artist 'twould irk
Not to cut out the work
When the hats are crammed down and a fox is away.
You will find him no centre of salon or crush,
No letters attached to his name may he sign,
But there's no one so eager to handle the Brush
And there's none so consistently found on the Line.
If an artist you ask,
Here's the man for the task,
Making pictures where keenness and courage combine.

An Artist

An artist paints with brush so old
Makes his painting worth gold
He paints the nature's gifted gifts
The flowing rivers in the midst
Of all he paints is a pretty face
A girl dressed all in lace
Portraying her beauty he is lost in time
The beauty she possessed is hard to find
Was it her beauty he tried to captivate?
But what a pity time doesn't wait
For she has gone so far away
Leaving her image with the artist to stay
Who paints her all through day and night?
Seeking pleasure deep inside

The Artist

The Artist and his Luckless Wife
They lead a horrid haunted life,
Surrounded by the things he's made
That are not wanted by the trade.

The world is very fair to see;
The Artist will not let it be;
He fiddles with the works of God,
And makes them look uncommon odd.

The Artist is an awful man,
He does not do the things he can;
He does the things he cannot do,
And we attend the private view.

The Artist uses honest paint
To represent things as they ain't,
He then asks money for the time
It took to perpetrate the crime.

A Nude Artist

A Nude Artist

he says he is a nude artist
because he is naked when he paints

such nakedness has
nothing to do with being a nude artist

a naked artist who paints a cat or a chicken
is not a nude artist

there is no nude cat
thyere is no nude chicken

just paint a naked woman
and he will be called a nude artist

an artist is not an art
he must know that

All the things you mean to me

As An Artist

As an artist,

I carefully paint
a picture on my
canvas

with each stroke
I wipe away a tear

causing a smile to
reappear

As an artist

I endow your face
with my brush

making it more
perfect as I go

until at last the
image of my love
I see.

-composed for the1951 italian film "anna" starring silvana magnano, raf vallone,
-and vittorio gassman
-italian words by michele galdieri and music by p.g. redi
-english words by shelley dobbins
Non dimenticar means don't forget you are my darling
Don't forget to be
All you mean to me
Non dimenticar my love is like a star, my darling
Shining bright and clear
Just because you're here
Please do not forget that our lips have met
And i've held you tight, dear
Was it dreams ago my heart felt this glow?
Or only just tonight, dear?
Non dimenticar although you travel far, my darling
It's my heart you own, so i'll wait alone
Non dimenticar
Se ci separ, se ci allontan
L'ala del destino
Non ne ho colpa, no, e mi sentiro sempre a te vicino
Non dimenticar although you travel far, my darling
It's my heart you own, so i'll wait alone
Non dimenticar

Paintings by fliss II Not So Abstract

Canvas on stand
Colours to the side
Pallet in hand
Let the brush slide

Orange and green
Coming from deep
Painting oh! Oh So serene
Trance like, almost a dream

Curves so sensual
The colours just flow
Enraptures, almost physical
Easy strokes, nice and slow

Show what's inside
Bristles caressing
Your hearts not lied
Smoothly, not fussing

Featherlight touch
Not a hint of blue
Like a lovers first touch
Exploring anew

Painted not drawn
Not one to delete
As fresh as the dawn
Canvas complete

Paintings

colours, they bring back
scenes and scents

your painting, it brings
brings me back all the years

still i can sit in that chair of
that long lost cafe and
have the privilege of a
tete a tete with friends,
imagined and real
of things we all cherish
the love of art and all the things
that it brings - scenes,
scents, and the time
we thought is lost
forever in time

Second Version
--
colours, they bring back
scenes and scents

your painting, it brings
brings me back all the years

still i can sit in that chair of
that long lost cafe and
have the privilege of a
tete a tete with friends,
imagined and real
of things we all cherish
the love of art and all the things
that it brings - scenes,
scents and geniuses
overheated talents
that drove them lunatics,
madmen manoevring
with the coldness
of the arctics
volcanoes that explode
splotches, dashes
splashes, onto the
canvas of their dreams

colours, they bring back
scenes and scents
paintings, they bring back
all the years nature plods on
against adversities to help
the artist pour out its best onto canvas

If it is the mark of the artist to love art before everything, to renounce everything for its sake, to think all the sweet human things of life well lost if only he may attain something, do some good, great work - then I was never an artist.

A New Year The Brave New Year

And keep holding on your hand wish to kiss
All my life I wish, full of spill
when we lay as close as gallows
things may change with one kiss darling

And together we laughing
Wishing you were here
Darling I think of you everyday for a elope
I don't know if I could face a year to come

It is as if I was, alone on this perch
There are many stars surround, none I can reach and love,
And one look into your eyes
tells me something has gone.
I must be out of my mind.
There were so many nights
I'd feel hot smell upon my glass...
But it all comes with this night darling

Little darling, I'd like to get to know you
Pleased to meet you, how do you do?

Little darling, gonna love you tonight
Little darling, gonna shake, shake, boogaloo

A little kissing
A little hugging
A little holding you

Call On Me

Well, baby, when times are bad,
Now call on me, darling, and i'll come to you.
When you're in trouble and feel so sad,
Now call on me, darling, come on call on me, and i'll help you.
Yeah!
A man and a woman have each other, baby,
To find their way in this world.
Yeah!
I need you, darling, like the fish needs the sea,
And don't take your sweet, your sweet love from me.
Now baby, when you're down and feel so blue,
And know you won't drown, darling, i'll be there too.
You're not alone, i'm there too,
And whatever your troubles, darling, i don't care.
A man and a woman have each other, baby,
To find their way in this world. yeah! alright!
I need you, darling, like the fish needs the sea,
Don't take your sweet, sweet love from me!
Please! so baby, when times are bad,
Call on me, darling, just call on me.

If I Were A Painting

If I were a painting
Captured on canvas
Alone in the portriat I would stand
And brush strokes bold
Yet soft as a whisper
The work of a feminine hand.
Caught in a still life
Surrounded by shadows
And lost in a background of blue
If I were a painting
My price would be pain
And the artist would have to be you.
I imagine the colors
Would all run together
If you ever allowed me to cry
So don't paint the tears
Just let me remember me
Without you in my eyes.
It's only the frame
That holds me together
Or else I would be falling apart
If I were a painting
I wouldn't feel
And you wouldnt be breaking my heart...

Love On A Farmboys Wages

High climbs the summer sun
High stands the corn
And tonight when my work is done
We will borrow your fathers carriage
We will drink and prepare for marriage
Soon my darling, soon my darling
Chorus: shilling for the fellow who brings the sheep in
Shilling for the fellow who milks the herd
Shilling for the fellow with a wife for keeping
How can we feed love on a farmboys wages?
Deep under winter snow
Deep lay the lambs
And tonight by the full moons glow
Flask of wine on my feather bedding
We will drink and prepare for wedding
Soon my darling, soon my darling
Chorus
People think that Im no good
Painting pictures carving wood
Be a rich man if I could
But the only job I do well is here on the farm
On the farm
And its breaking my back
We will borrow your fathers carriage
We will drink and prepare for marriage
Soon my darling, soon my darling
Chorus
