Dreams [2]
As dreams go
I am again sitting in the windowsill
of our flat on the fourteenth floor
and below people rush by, small
like crawling ants
going to pleasure spots, restaurants
some to the movies
in the early evening hours.
Music plays from that sound system
build into the wall in the lounge,
turned up so loud, that even
the people below in the street
can hear every sound and word
and it’s alright as in dreams
you cannot disturb the neighbours
living above, beneath you and next door.
The sun dies somewhere over the sea
and twilight has its own romantic innocence
and just now, you will be rushing in
part of the pleasure of living
with a smile like a bright sun
enveloping your face
and there’s a chilled bottle of JC Le Roux champagne
with two glasses next to me
and when I hear the front door open
I pop the cork and pour some in
and the breeze frizzles my short hair
and suddenly I am aware
that you are right there next to me
from the alluring smell of your perfume
and our lips meet in a tender kiss
that is full of bliss
and with shiny eyes you take a glass from me
and its really okay and I know
that we are divorced,
but I am dreaming
and sometimes in reality
love doesn’t fade
and above us the stars are full of magic
as if anything can happen
and we see one moving past
and I give you a passionate kiss
but suddenly sunshine falls on my face
and the new day makes my dream
crumble to naught
and I am back at home
in a city, a thousand miles away from you.

The Darkness Falls Like A Shadow Over You (In Answer To Pablo Neruda)
The darkness falls like a shadow over you,
where your eyes gleam like that of a cat
as the silver twilight sudden start to rush in
and abstracted your face fades into twilight.
Without a word you gaze into the night,
gaze down at neon lights flickering on,
while I am alone in our big hot bed
and there is a kind of loneliness that comes
with this early evening’s magical hour,
while the sun flames in its red glowing fire
that splashes over your white dress
as the night sets its roots into our souls
while hidden things suddenly come to life,
as your gentle laughter touches me very deep
when you enter our bedroom with a bottle
full of sparkling champagne, full of joy.
Suddenly life is rich as if the act of creation,
is in every gentle touch, as if new beginnings
of love, joy and tender bliss are totally endless
as the city lights suddenly wink on below.

Nights and days (in answer to T.S. Eliot)
I
The summer day draws to a end
with its last light spent
with blaring television sets,
at the racetrack, people checking their last bets
children playing in passageways
that had seen better days
and in city block after city block
with flower pots being displayed
on balconies
the rain patters down
and time stretches to seven o’clock
in another rundown town
where vagrants stand under trees in vacant lots
trying to shelter against the rainy breeze
as human beings with spirits, stripped gone
when the streetlamps go on
one after another first flickering
and prostitutes indiscreetly start to walk the streets
rather gay and alluring.
II
The early morning light
shines bright through open windows
and unfamiliar couples awake next to each other
do not even know each other’s names
and do not bother to kiss goodbye
in apartments and houses where the smell of sex,
champagne, beer or wine is still lingering
from the nightly escapades
and the blue sky shimmers with freshness.
III
Alone in a city apartment,
one among hundreds of others,
you lit a candle and solitary
have a candlelight dinner
with sparkling sherry
in a long glass
and are really beautiful
with big dark eyes,
a pear shaped face
and soft tender lips
and think how sweet
it would have been
if you had some company
and life stretches out almost endlessly
with going to work, your duties there
and coming home to an empty flat
and downstairs the Nigerians
are having another all-night party
with music thumping
through the floor,
the next-door neighbour
is again having a row
with his fiancée or wife
and they are slamming doors
and life is going on
in the same way
that it usually does.
IV
Somewhere up high, beyond the endless sky,
beyond the universe, the Lord is looking down
at every city, every single town
seeing every person
and even their thoughts, personal, private,
lascivious or serene
becomes part of His understanding
of human beings.

In The End
I Saw Red
Warrant
Oo it must be magic
How inside your eyes I see my destiny Every time we kiss
I feel you breathe your love to deep inside of me
And if the moon and stars should fall
They'd be east to replace
I would lift you up to heaven
And you would take their place
Then I saw red
When I opened up the door
I saw red
Heart just spilled on to the floor
And I didn't need to see his face
I saw yours
I saw red then I closed the door
I don't think I'm gonna love you anymore
Everyday I wake up
I thank God that you are
Still a part of me
Opened up the door to which
So many people never find the way
Snd if the sun
Should ever fail to send its light
We will burn a thousand candles
And make everything alright
Then I saw red
Wnen I opened up the door
I saw red
Heart just spilled onto the floor
And I didn't need to see his face
I saw yours
I saw red then I closed the door
I don't think I'm gonna love you anymore
I've been hurt
And I've been blind
I'm not sure that I'll be fine
I never thought it would
End this way
Oo it must be magic

Night Clubbing
Endless records being spun.
Everybody's having fun.
Girls wearing sparkly tops.
The cork from a champagne bottle pops.
Girls with gelled and laquered hair,
Dance with hands up in the air.
The music with a boom boom beat,
Makes everybody move their feet.
Girls with delicate strappy shoes,
Sitting cross-legged drinking booze.
Downing drinks which are very fizzy,
And suddenly feeling rather dizzy.
Coloured lights flicker and flash.
Feeling sick, to the loo, people dash.
Music so loud, you can't be heard.
Trying to chat, you can't catch a single word.
Groups of girls having a laugh,
Watching the guys acting daft.
Groups of girls kiss and embrace,
All dressed up in satin and lace.
People at the bar are five or six deep:
The drinks, however, are far from cheap.
People are dancing on the floor.
There's a fight with bouncers at the door.
Cocktails topped with coloured umbrellas.
Girls on the hunt for handsome fellas.
Guys looking for willing girls to bed:
For one night stands - not to wed.
Girls pout with ruby red lips.
People go on drug induced 'trips.'
By the end of the night,
There's one more fight.
Soon, people head home,
By taxi or drunkenly roam.
Soon, they crawl into bed,
Complete with a very sore head!

Your Wildest Dreams
Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Reflected in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you
Think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams
Once the world was new
Our bodies felt the morning dew
That greets the brand new day
We couldn't tear ourselves away
I wonder if you care
I wonder if you still remember
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams
And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
Once upon a time
Once beneath the stars
The universe was ours
Love was all we knew
And all i knew was you
I wonder if you know
I wonder if you think about it
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams
And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow

At Toni’s
Just before I want to drive
through the portcullis at work,
you phone me
and I have to stop
to hear
what’s on you mind.
The roar of the motorbike
makes that I must listen well
to hear what you say
and you want to go to Toni’s
and I wonder if you know
where the new precise are?
I have just cut through the traffic
and parked my bike beyond the house
when you stop at the front gate
and the barking of the dog’s tell me
to catch some speed.
The afternoon sky is clear and bright blue
and its still hot afternoon
and I give you a nice kiss
through the car door
that you open for me.
You are very early
and had left early at work
and the watering
of the vegetable garden,
have to wait till later
and there’s magic
in your smile
At Toni’s which now
is just beyond chamberlain’s
small lamps are already burning
and although we arrive without a booking,
a table is quickly
given to us.
The evening is romantic and peaceful
that’s much better than just nice
while the sun slowly sets
and your eyes
glitter and shine with the lamps.
I wish I could drag hours out
like this with you
and throw a bit of
balsamic vinegar in my plate
while the calamata olives
and pizza
taste heavenly
and you
and the sweet desert
with a cup of strong coffee
make the evening special for me.

Are You The One?
Music : rudolf schenker
Lyrics: klaus meine
Another rainy morning
People rushing by
My head is still in the clouds
I dream with open eyes
Suddenly out of nowhere
She came into my life
Like we know each other
For quite a while
In the sound of silence
Time is standing still
Theres some kind of bond between us
Thats givin me the chill
Do you really wonder
That we can burn the sky
Its written a thousand years ago
In the book of life
Are you the one that God had made for me
Are you the one whos always in my dreams
The one who keeps me goin
When I cant go on
The one that Ive been waiting for
For so long
Oh, yeah
Suddenly out of nowhere
She came into my life
Are you the one that God had made for me
Are you the one whos always in my dreams
Are you the one that God had made for me
Are you the one whos mine eternally
The one who keeps me dreamin
When Im sad and tired
Who gives my life a meaning
Till the day I die
Are you the one
Are you the one

To someone that I loved
I. The odours of jasmine
The odours of jasmine, gardenia
and lavender sneaks in
through the room’s window
and it smells like a perfumery
while rays upon rays march over the bed
climbing over your arms, body and legs
while we lie stretched out
close to each other,
ignoring the sounds from the street,
where cars rush by,
the barks of the dogs
yelping at passing strangers,
only when you wake up,
I draw the curtains shut
as we feel the coldness of twilight
and join in body and soul.
II. On the porch we watch the setting sun
On the porch we watch the setting sun,
while sweet St. Anna wine
sparkles in our glasses
and there’s an intimacy,
a type of tranquillity
in the experience of early evening
while lights shine yellow and white in the distance,
the bottom of the clouds is almost ruby-red,
the black are already darkening some clouds,
while other remains snowy-white
the darkness catches us
with a full yellow moon
and like naughty children
we sneak into our house,
we sneak into our own bedroom
while joy foams like champagne
we are very intimately together
melting into one body
and while your hand later
still caress my back like a butterfly
barely touching here and there
I realise that you are the best part of me,
with your soft sweet lips
barely touching my cheek,
your hot breath against my body.
III. While the night is being born
While the night is being born,
the darkness sneaks into our house,
sneaks into our bedroom,
a sudden breeze begins blowing
far off against the horizon
near to the Magaliesberg mountains
blue-white streaks of thunder
flashes like canon fire
while we can smell
the scent of rain, of wet earth
on the breeze that is blowing stronger,
tossing the small potato trees to and thro
your face is full of terror
in the light of a lightning bolt
falling just outside of the window
and your eyes look big and white
while I cuddle you close to me
and your arms enfold, wrap around me drawing
me still closer and suddenly
the night is chilly
while big drops of rain pound down,
splashing until the rain pours like a torrent
and we find comfort in each other
melting with passion into one another.
IV. The alarm clock wakes me
The alarm clock wakes me
while it’s still twilight
and with the falling rain
the early morning is still dark
as if the night is lingering.
Outside the large jacaranda trees
wave in the storm wind
dropping purple-blue flowers
like a shower of confetti
and the street gleams
while cars drive past splashing
water in a spray
and we have to get ready
for the new day
and quite lazily you stretch out,
drawing me back to bed,
drawing me close to you,
drawing me into your warmth
while our lips, bodies and limbs
intertwine to become one.
V. We agree to meet for lunch
We agree to meet for lunch
in a restaurant just off church street
on a autumn day
on the twentieth of May
and you are smiling,
lifting a glass of red champagne,
when so near that we can feel the wind of it
a tremendous explosion erupts shattering,
shattering the innocent people in Church Street
with deadly sharp pieces of glass and concrete
and I pull you down to the ground
as we take cover behind the small table
where we were eating,
the air is suddenly full
with the sound of people
screaming in pain and terror
and as we rush out,
going into Church Street
and there’s blood and guts everywhere
with terrified, screaming, mutilated
and wounded people
where ever we look
and you cry in relieve of escape,
in sheer terror and shock
and the world has gone amok.

World Of Promises
They come from a land were the sun don't shine
running away from the cold
They travel so far in the name of love
hoping the dreams will come true
Walking the way through endless fields
trying to make it together
??????????????????
????????????????????
And they will give anything
just to be free from the pain
and they won't surrender
Living in a world of promises
Living in a world of dreams and hopes
Living in a world of promises
Lost in the city wondering why
no one will open the door
It's more to the truth than meets the eye
something they all felt before
And they will give anything
just to stand tall once again
and they won't surrender
Living in a world of promises
Living in a world of dreams and hopes
Living in a world of promises
In the tan of the nigh can hear them crying
out for a life to hol on to
Somebody knows were the answers lying
wait for your trails and don't let go
Living in a world of promises
Living in a world of dreams and hopes
Living in a world of promises

The yuppie in the grey land
I
The office door closes
behind the man that leaves embarrassed
and the yuppie smiles
and sees himself as a banker
and knows that he takes much more
than he gives.
The usury act is gone
and fifty percent interest on loans
is a nice thing
and if people want to be stupid
it fits him well
and something bothers him
and he ignores it
as silliness.
With a burning cigarette in his mouth
he gets into his shiny machine
and cut three cars of,
when his car leaves rubber tracts behind.
He blows the smoke out with pleasure
and his car stops at a red light,
where a blonde doll bends forward on the sidewalk
and he looks at two firm D-breasts
with hard nipples.
The lust froths in him
and he looks her out,
but she’s to near to forty
or maybe past it
and he grabs his cell phone
to get a number on it.
The whole time is playtime,
a lovely voice greets him
and he smiles
and ask if he can meet her
and makes an immediate appointment.
On the other side of the street
there’s a man with long hair,
a beard, t-shirt and jeans
and he snubs at him
and the man replies
Jesus saves
and when he drives away
he hears
peace to you mate.
II
a Beautiful blonde
waits for him at the door
and pushes a glass of KWV wine
into his right hand
and when the door closes behind them
he greets her with a hungry kiss.
She works alone from her house
and they go and sit
at her bar counter,
where he counts of some notes
and she pours a glass of Johnny Walker.
They chat and drink
and smoke for a while
as if he’s her boyfriend,
before they start spooning
and their clothes lie
in a line along the carpet to the bed
where he makes love to her.
His hands plays with her firm breasts
and big nipples
and they get intimate
past all pleasure
and when he showers later
she joins him and they play again.
In the lounge against the wall
there’s a painting
of a Madonna figure
and he looks at the golden cross
that hangs around her neck
and the words of the man at the traffic light
keep repeating in his mind.
They drink a few bottles of Johnny Walker,
before he walks on unsteady legs
to his car,
where she greets him with a kiss.
III
He drives through the suburb
near his house
and the car
is all over the road.
Near a school
he accelerates for the last bit
and hits a girl
that crosses at some zebra stripes.
It’s a terrible smash
and he’s really drunk
and the child lies lifeless
and he feels nauseous
and hear that the car’s engine
still running.
He knows that if the police
finds him at the accident,
he will be arrested and jailed
and the words of the man at the traffic light
hangs bitter over him.
IV
Suddenly there are people
about him
and when he drives away,
it’s too quick for somebody
to get the number
and in the distance
he hears the siren
of an ambulance getting near.
There are tears in his eyes
when he stops in his garage
and he is almost sober from fright
and looks at himself,
for the first time.
He stays in the dented car
and prays
and he doesn’t know
how to fix things,
but decides to try anyway.

Fade Away
When I was young
I thought I had my own key
I knew exactly what I wanted to be
Now I'm sure
You've boarded up every door
Lived in a bubble
Days were never ending
Was not concerned
About what life was sending
Fantasy was real
Now I know much
About the way I feel
I'll paint you the picture
'Cause I don't think you live round here no more
I've never even seen
The key to the door
We only get what we will settle for
While we're living
The dreams we have as children
Fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children
Fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children
Fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children
Fade away

The Magic of the Breeze – 32 I used to travel by train
I used to travel by train
Previously too – The travel
At night, the distant lights
The stars in sky, hopeful dreams
The sound of thundering wheels
Singing a song to the rhythm
Of the beat of the heart of steel
The rush of the wind
Standing by the door
I used to think what means all this
The fury and sound, the very travel
The people I used to meet or travel with
No one has been able to erase the sadness
Or ease the pain I feel when traveling
I used to feel all alone by the door
And life speeding by towards the end.
I have enjoyed my travel too
In groups with friends now far apart
I remember days gone by never to come
But, however long the distance
I used to stand at least half the time.
With you I now sit and enjoy
It is no longer a pain
Before travel was business
Travel was necessary and unavoidable
It was an escape sometimes
Just the act of traveling – running away
But, I always had to come back
And face life alone, just alone.
Now, you have shown me
The other side of travel by train
The train is still the train
The people, crowd all are the same
But yet not the very same,
You and I, no one else I see
Time, with it all people, the crowd
Are frozen in time and none exists
Other than just the two of us
I myself am in a dream till the end
Drinking the air and feeling
The breeze and you fill each cell
I no longer think, I only wait
To feel the brush of your touch
And the kiss of the breeze!

A Scene After Dinner....
an empty drinking glass
falls from the hand of the house
help,
it breaks on the floor into
pieces
we hear the sound of the breaking
the shattering
we do not mind, drinking glasses break
the sound is usual and we do not
ever dare to ask why as we are busy
with our usual business
i am reading a book, you are rendering
an accounting on a yellow paper
the guest is preoccupied with the internet
booking for a ticket back home
there is another sound of breaking
that is not evident to everyone in the house
that evening after dinner
and suddenly there is a blackout of the whole island
it is hot, and humid and we perspire
we do not complain, as there is no use
we hear the sound of a breaking as loud as
a nuclear bomb in Hirosma as a documentary film
in National Geographic, we suffer, silently,
we are becoming deaf, we do not mind anymore.

Street Of Dreams
I heard the sound of voices in the night
Spellbound there was someone calling
I looked around no one was in sight
Pulled down I just kept on falling
Ive seen this place before
You were standing by my side
Ive seen your face before tonight
Maybe I just see what I want it to be
I know its a mystery
Do you remember me on a street of dreams
Running through my memory
On the street of dreams
There you stood a distant memory
So good like we never parted
Said to myself I knew youd set me free
And here we are right back where we started
Soemthings come over me
And I dont know what to feel
Maybe this fantasy is real
Now I know I see what I want it to be
But its still a mystery
Do you remember me on the street of dreams
Running through my memory
On the street of dreams
You are on every face I see
On the street of dreams
Solo
Tell me have you always been
On the street of dreams
Will we ever meet again my friend
Do you know just what it meand to be
On the street of dreams
Never know just who youll see do ya
On the street of dreams
You can be who you want to be oh yeah
I can hear you calling me
I can feel you haunting me
Haunting me

Love Is Real
Love is real
it is not just in novels
or the movies
it is fact and it is standing here
right in front of you
So if you just open your eyes
oh what a sweet discovery
there is hope and there is joy
and there is exceptance
so now let all the light collect that collects on your plants
keep your wamr make you smile
and i iwll be there with this pen in my hand
to record all the while you'll be laughing so loud
that the house would shake with sound
and everything will be as new as the day
it was found
Love is real
it is not just in long distance commercials
or something that you thought you
felt back in highschool
so i will turn black and white
become that horoscope your readin'
it predicts that something good is on its way
oh and ill send you all the world green and blue
in a box through the mail
you can open it up hold it right in your hand
and be glad that it's there
and be glad that you're there
now you can feel all the knotts in ur stomach
they start to untie
and suddenly it's not so hard to say your alright
oh..love is real
it is not just in poetry and stories
it is truth and it will follow u
everywhere you go from now on
so if you just cast off your doubts
then your lips would answer for you
oh my darling when you smile it is like a song
and I can heart it now
I can hear it now
I can hear it now
I can hear it now...can hear it now
and I can hear it now
I can hear it now
I can hear it now...

Midnight Lamentation
When you and I go down
Breathless and cold,
Our faces both worn back
To earthly mould,
How lonely we shall be!
What shall we do,
You without me,
I without you?
I cannot bear the thought
You, first, may die,
Nor of how you will weep,
Should I.
We are too much alone;
What can we do
To make our bodies one:
You, me; I, you?
We are most nearly born
Of one same kind;
We have the same delight,
The same true mind.
Must we then part, we part;
Is there no way
To keep a beating heart,
And light of day?
I could now rise and run
Through street on street
To where you are breathing–you,
That we might meet,
And that your living voice
Might sound above
Fear, and we two rejoice
Within our love.
How frail the body is,
And we are made
As only in decay
To lean and fade.
I think too much of death;
There is a gloom
When I can’t hear your breath
Calm in some room.
O, but how suddenly
Either may droop;
Countenance be so white,
Body stoop.
Then there may be a place
Where fading flowers
dropp on a lifeless face
Through weeping hours.
Is then nothing safe?
Can we not find
Some everlasting life
In our one mind?
I feel it like disgrace
Only to understand
Your spirit through your word,
Or by your hand.
I cannot find a way
Through love and through;
I cannot reach beyond
Body, to you.
When you or I must go
Down evermore,
There’ll be no more to say
–But a locked door.

Im Already There
(richie mcdonald/gary baker/frank myers)
He called her on the road
From a lonely cold hotel room
Just to hear her say I love you one more time
But when he heard the sound
Of the kids laughing in the background
He had to wipe away a tear from his eye
A little voice came on the phone
Said daddy when you coming home
He said the first thing that came to his mind
Im already there
Take a look around
Im the sunshine in your hair
Im the shadow on the ground
Im the whisper in the wind
Im your imaginary friend
And I know Im in your prayers
Oh Im already there
She got back on the phone
Said I really miss you darling
Dont worry about the kids theyll be alright
Wish I was in your arms
Lying right there beside you
But I know that Ill be in your dreams tonight
And Ill gently kiss your lips
Touch you with my fingertips
So turn out the light and close your eyes
Im already there
Dont make a sound
Im the beat in your heart
Im the moonlight shining down
Im the whisper in the wind
And Ill be there until the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh Im already there
We may be a thousand miles apart
But Ill be with you wherever you are
Im already there
Take a look around
Im the sunshine in your hair
Im the shadow on the ground
Im the whisper in the wind
And Ill be there until the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh Im already there
Oh Im already
There

American Storm
Words and music by bob seger
Headin out on some uncharted path
You soon turn back
It happens time and time again
You never seem to reach the end
Someones out there on the street tonight
When things go wrong
Hell guarantee to make them right
If the price is right
Every time I look youre fallin fallin
Beaten by the wind
Every time I turn around hes there again
Its like a full force gale
An american storm
Youre buried far beneath a mountain of cold
And you never get warm
Its like a wall of mirrors
You charge 'em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You never feel the need
Everybody casts a certain light
A special gift
Its theirs to use for wrong or right
When you face the night
More and more we choose the easy way
We take no risks
We figure out which games to play
And how to make em pay
Suddenly the pressures fallin fallin
Skies have all turned grey
Suddenly the storm is heading straight your way
Its like a full force gale
Atop a mountain of cold
You tell your story again and again
And it never gets old
Its like a wall of mirrors
You charge em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You face a full force gale
An american storm
Youre buried beneath a mountain of cold
And you never get warm - no you never get warm
You face a wall of mirrors
You charge em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You never feel the need
