Christmas Child
One dark night a farmer heard his sheep bleating,
went out and a above him saw a strange star,
with his walking stick the old man walked
to the shed and he hoped
that he was worrying in vain,
he was aware of the bright light above him.
At the cowshed a lamp was burning
as if two teenagers impudently
was spending time with each other,
but he found a mature couple that were sheltering there
and the women was giving birth,
it was too late to take her home and she was shy;
the farmer, his wife and child
were overwhelmed by the Christmas child.

Sheep-Killer
The sheep farmer's old black collie
had a ebony-tipped nose
that was turning grey,
as the specks on its paws
from the years under the elements
and a fog was hanging on the hill
when he undid the chain
and the far off bleating of the ewes
could be heard from the hill
and the farmer told the dog to gather them in,
to round them up and bring them down
to the corral
and with its normal pace,
no hurry in its trot the old hound
went off to do its task
disappearing in the mist,
past the paddocks
on it's way to the trees
and the farmer heard it barking
rounding up and gathering
and then suddenly the old dog growled,
barked, snarled furious, before giving
a long drawn out whining howl
and then it cried out in pain
and the ewes were bleating, bleating
as if in sheer terror
and their bells ringing
as if they were running
and the farmer got his shotgun,
a carton of shells
and an old torch
and went to the hedge calling
the dog's name, calling at the sheep
and he passed to the trees
walking up the ridge of the hillock
and only his voice resounded
while he kept calling.
At one point he saw the broken rails
with the footprints of the ewes
and the old black collie
crawled, in pain dragged her body along
and he thought good Lord, what had happened here?
The dog was in great pain and bleeding badly
ripped open and in his peripheral vision,
the farmer saw a shadow moving,
coming in with a big limp
and he turned to meet it
and pulled off both barrels simultaneously
shattering the head of a wounded leopard
and his dog was too far gone to be helped,
to be saved
and there was great pain in him
to do the proper thing, to stops its agony
and with trusting dark brown eyes
it looked at him, still whimpering
and the farmer took an old.45 pistol from his belt
cocked it and tears were in his eyes
when he put a bullet through its head
and shot it dead
and that night he said his things to God,
could not close an eye.

Where is Christmas
Where is Christmas that holy night when a star shone out
so clear and bright.
Where is Christmas when a child was born and there in a
manger he lay meek and forlorn.
Where is Christmas with sherpherds and kings with beautiful angles
on silken wings.
Have we forgotten this Christmas story or do we just think it is full of pomp and glory; yes a king was born but he had no crown and his palace was a stable in Bethlehem Town.
There were no trumpets to the sound of his birth, although he was king of all kings to rule over the earth.
He had no gifts of white steeds to ride, just a lamb and a donkey
that lay by is side; with Christmas tidings brought from a far by
by kings and sherperds that followed a star
So where is Christmas this one of long ago, is it forfotten or do we really want to know.
We light up our homes with celebration in mind and every year we
think is Christmas becoming a bind.
We must stop and think and show some compasion and stop
spending money as if it is going out of fashion.Lets look at
Christmas and set this story in our hearts
before it is lost forever and it's meaning departs.
Christmas is a time for giving because the Lord gave us his son
so let the celebration of his birth be second to none.

Oh Christmas Night Oh Christmas Night
Oh Christmas night oh Christmas night
So quiet all and splendor
We celebrate Christ birth and might
With candle lights so tender
For on this night is born a king
The king of peace on earth
We glorify and humbly sing
About this child and holy birth
Oh Christmas night oh Christmas night
When night's around and dark
We find his love's a guiding light
And see his angels hark
We hope this time peace will bring
And guide our footsteps all
For he's the forth of everything
The protector of big and small
Oh Christmas night oh Christmas night
The spirits of love and greeting
When each love will burn on so bright
With kindness and good treating
We hope one day peace will arrive
For every life that's living
We must therefore still on strive
Remembering what Christmas is giving

Me & The Farmer
Me and the farmer get on fine
Through stormy weather and bottles of wine
If I pull my weight hell treat me well
But if Im late hell give me hell
And thought its all hard work no play
Farmer is a happy crook
Jesus hates him everyday
cause jesus gave and farmer took
{wont he let you go? } probably no
{wont he let you go? } probably no
{why does he treat you so? } I just dont know
{why does he treat you so? } I just dont know
Me and the farmer like brother, like sister
Getting on like hand and blister
Me and the farmer
Hes chpped down shppe, planted trees
And helped the countryside to breathe
Ripped up fields, bullied flocks
And workded his workers right around the clock
It may seem strange but hed admit
Intentions arent exactlly true
And through God loves his wife a bit
He hates the farmer through and through
{wont he let you go? } probably no
{wont he let you go? } probably no
{why does he treat you so? } I just dont know
{why does he treat you so? } I just dont know
Me and the farmer like brother, like sister
Getting on like hand and blister
Me and the farmer
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures gr3eat and small
All weve got is london zoo
cause farmer owns them all

The Birth
he was born on a dark lonely night
and not a soul was in sight.
his mother was driving home
on that starry night, when she started
to feel the contractions.
she knew right then that she would
have to take action.
she pulled alongside that old country road
and her stomach she did hold
.
when she felt that waterbag bust
and in GOD she put her trust.
she asked the LORD what she should do
for she knew not what to do.
she heard a voice so soft and gentle
that told her to stay calm.
for this was a special child
that would be born this night
and that everything was going
to be allright.
she pushed the front seat back
as far as it would go
and took off her clothing so
that she could see.
the pains became so severe
and a head did appear.
she pushed with all her might
so that this child could be free.
for this was the way
it was meant to be.
as the child started to come out
from her lungs came a shout.
this child came out with such ease
and she felt a gentle breeze
as if it was a whisper upon her face
and she knew it was through GODS grace.
with a penknife she cut the cord.
and cleaned him up the best she could.
she wrapped him within her coat
and put the heater on
and drove back to a distant farm.
when she got to the farm
and banged upon the door.
when no one answered
she knealt down on the floor.
again she called upon the LORD
and asked what she should do.
he told her to look towads the barn
for there was a light as bright as day
and the farmer was baling hay.
as she got to the barn door
she collapsed in sheer exhaustion.
when she finally opened up her eyes
on the hay she did lay.
and beside her lay her child.
and the farmer told her she was
out for quite a while.
but the ambulance was on the way
and that he could not move her
in fear of jeopardizing her life
and that she was cleaned up
by his lovely wife.
now the farmers wife was
a religious woman
who believed that nothing
happens by chance.
and at this child she did glance.
she said that he had an aura
of light above his head
just like the bible which she had read.
she looked at this childs mother
and asked her this:
'is this coincidence or is this
a sign from above
that he would be in a barn
like christ was in the manger?
she recalled that gentle voice and
what it had said.
that a special child would be born on this night.
now you tell me.
was she wrong, or was she right?

Wonder Star
(A note on the Christmas Star that had guided the Vikings to Jesus.)
Oh my dear! You wonder star
So bright you shine all day and night
To guide us to the Lord’s birth home
Born were you dear mighty star.
Old quite, but young enough
You shine so fine till time today
Bethlehem your home it lives in joy
For home it is for the Lord’s birth
Time to time you shine with us
At Christmas time on roofs atop
Colors galore you shine all night
To remind us all of His glorious birth.
Your name it is “the wonder star”
You’ve shown the way to the mighty king
You still shine bright in heavens above
In our hearts you shine all Christmas time.

Sonnets of the boy who drew cats
I
A long time ago
when soldiers still carried spears and swords
a Japanese farmer and his wife,
had a string of children
and everyone got a task.
They milked cows, cared after pigs,
gathered chicken eggs
and ploughed the soil,
planted rice, wheat and oats,
but the youngest was too weak and small
to do any work
and time and again he neglected his duties
and disappeared
and drew cats.
II
The farmer scratched his head
and did not know what to do
with a child that disappears
and couldn’t complete a task and drew
big and small, white, black, ginger and pied cats
of each size and type.
So the farmer and his wife reckoned
to take the child to the nearest temple
to become a priest
and the farmer tied his sword around his side,
loaded the child on a horse
saddled his own horse
and maybe the men of God
would learn the child about duties.
III
The child studied well
but nobody could stop him
from drawing cats everywhere
and it happened
that the priest thought
that he couldn’t
become a priest and rather
be an artist.
The child was sent
to a temple farther away
and the priest instructed him
to avoid big places at night
and to find a sleeping place
in a small place.
IV
The temple was abandoned
because a evil goblin
coming from the dark earth,
expelled the priests
and the soldiers
that went to face him
had all disappeared.
At night a light burned
in the temple
and when the boy arrived
he went in and everywhere
that he found a white screen he painted a cat
and he remembered the words of the old priest
and went to sleep in a small cabinet.
V
That night he heard a big noise
of a great fight
and cats roaring like lions
growling angrily
while something tried to
smash and pierce them
and he heard them
ripping something to pieces.
The next morning
a goblin
with the head of a rat,
with a pronged whip and sword in his hands
was dead in the middle of the temple
where he lost the fight.
VI
l’Envoi
There was still wet blood
on the mouths of the cats
painted
on the screens
and they looked innocent
and vulnerable.
When the priests returned
they immediately saw
what happened
and they declared
boy a hero
and later he was renown
as a painter
that only paints cats.

Unto You This Night
On a night so long ago
By the light of one bright star
Two weary travelers far from galilee
Took refuge in a stable
Where a little child was born
To bring the gift of love to you and me
When the angels told the shepherds of his birth
There came a great rejoicing on the earth
Chorus:
And they sang glory to God in the highest
Dawning that first christmas morn
Peace on earth and ridings of great joy
For unto you this night a child is born
And, lo, these many years since then
That ancient star still guides us
And now again our christmas voices ring
Blessed we are and safe at home
With loved ones her beside us
And in the still and silent night we sing
How the angels told the shepherds of his birth
And there came a great rejoicing on the earth
Repeat chorus:

Farmer's Daughter
I do come from miles away,
Ain't got no place to stay.
Glad to help you plow your fields,
Farmer's daughter.
Might be just a couple of days,
Clean up, rest, and be on my way.
Thank you, madam, much obliged,
Farmer's daughter.
So long, got to leave your land.
Many thanks, it was might grand.

It Wasnt His Child
(written by skip ewing)
He was her man, she was his wife
And late one winter night
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasnt his child,
It wasnt his child
Yet still he took him as his own
And as he watched him grow
It brought him joy
But it wasnt his child
It wasnt his child
But like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasnt easy for him
But he did all could
His son was different from the rest
It wasnt his child
It wasnt his child
And when the boy became a man
He took his fathers hand
And soon the world
Would all know why
It wasnt his child
It wasnt his child
But like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasnt easy for him
But he did all could
He grew up with his hands in wood
And he died with his hands in wood
He was gods child,
He was gods child
He was her man
She was his wife
And late one night
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasnt his child
It was gods child

Taxes On The Farmer Feeds Us All
(traditional, adapted by ry cooder)
(d) - (a) - (e)
(a) we worked through spring and winter, through (d) summer and through (a) fall
But the mortgage worked the hardest and the (e) steadiest of us all
It (a) worked on nights and sundays, it (d) worked each holiday
(e) settled down among us and it never went (a) away
The farmer comes to town with his wagon broken down
The farmer is the man who feeds us all
If you only look and see I know you will agree
That the farmer is the man who feeds us all
(a) the farmer is the man, the farmer is the man
He buys on his credit until (e) fall
Then they (a) take him by the hand
And they (d) lead him from his land
And the (e) merchant is the man who gets it (a) all
The farmer is the man, the farmer is the man
He lives on his credit until fall
With the interest rates so high
Its a wonder he dont die
But the taxes on the farmer feeds us all
Well, the banker says hes broke and the merchant stops and smoke
But they forget that its the farmer that feeds them all
It would put them to the test if the farmer took a rest
And theyd know that its the farmer that feeds them all
The farmer is the man, the farmer is the man
Lives on his credit until fall
Well, his pants are wearing thin
His condition, its a sin
cause the taxes on the farmer feeds us all

I May Not Awaken
Roma ryan
When the warmth of the day becomes the night
Who could sleep beneath a strange moonlight?
No guiding star
So far from home
Walked the way o promise to find but snow
Throughout, the voice of the winds brings nothing more
Than low echoes
So far from home
Even from a child
A wish is not enough
For me, for me the sky may fall
And even from a child
A dream is not enough
Could be, could be the sky may fall
Could be, could be the night ends all
No rains could weep as I have wept
To know a simple dream will not be kept
I am a child
So far from home
One by one the sky falls
I may not awaken

It's Time For Christmas
The star, has previewed up in the sky
It was the night of a new born child
The birth of a better world
Since this holy night
We are all celebrating Christmas
It's time for Christmas, we singing for the world
Let's live together, in harmony
It's time for Christmas, it's time to heal the world
Let's come together, it's Christmas time
Christmas
You will find your way home, together with friends who will never alone
Christmas
In all these wonderful places, different colors and different races
Peace
In the silent night, no more pain lets stop the fight
Heaven
Like a place on earth, it's Christmas time its Jesus birth
Freedom
For the human race, to make the children's world a better place
Freedom
For me and for you, heal the world and make a wish come true
Peace
It's our love supreme, for now and forever what a wonderful dream
Love
Makes the world go around, from the highest mountain to the deeground
It's time for Christmas, we singing for the world
Let's live together, in harmony
It's time for Christmas, it's time to heal the world
Let's come together, it's Christmas time
It's time for Christmas

My Child of the Sun
My child of the sun
i know yur scared
how far will you run
for what are you prepared?
My child of the sun
open your eyes
look infront of you
look up to the skies
My child of the sun
why are your running so far
what do you want?
A piece of the moon or a big bright star?
My child of the sun
your flames burn bright
the day has long begun
and still your out of sight
My child of the sun
here comes the moon
now you have to run
he'll be out soon
My child of the sun
you have left me
all i see now is a frowning night,
but in a few hours again i'll see the light.

So Sweet A Song
A golden star hung in the sky,
And sang to the child a lullaby.
So sweet a song, that the boy did sleep
Alongside the donkey and bleating sheep.
Fresh hay, so soft, was his cradle bed,
Within a cold and damp cattle shed.
And his Mother, in her deep joy, wept,
As vigil over here babe, she kept.
A golden star hung in the sky,
And shone so bright to signify
That here did lay a Holy King,
Who gives us life everlasting.

A Chanuka and Christmas Carol
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Grace of God Eternal dispels the dark of night.
Daniel had prophesied the Desolation
False idols in the temple: 'twas the Desecration
Little lamp oil remained for the altar dedication
So God provided the light to this and every earthly nation.
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Grace of the Father dispels the dark of night.
NesGadolHayahSham – A Great Miracle Happened there
The star of Bethlehem lit the way to a little manger where
The miracle of Jesus birth in the creche of a mare.
Hosanna, Alleluia, the Angel Chorus does declare.
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Light of the Messiah dispels the dark of night.
At the time of Chanukah on the porch of Solomon
The Messiah was revealed, Jesus is the Father's son.
Sheep follow the shepherd and unto him ye run,
And recognize the works which show that He and God are one.
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Light of the Good Shepherd dispels the dark of night.
The rededication lacked the glory of the Ark
But when Immanuel came, He dispelled the dark.
So worship not in a building cold and stark.
But in Spirit and in Truth – Jesus the eternal bulwark.
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Light of the Holy Spirit dispels the dark of night.
The eternal sacrifice, His body: temple stones and bricks.
Like the shammus which lights all menorrah wicks.
Jesus, the servant-king, lights our spirit-candle sticks
That we may be His beacons, His light our hearts affix.
Chanukah and Christmas – Let's celebrate the light
The Light of the World dispels the dark of night.

The Farmer's Bride (Cavatina Sequence) (In Answer To Charlotte Mew)
There was a farmer's wife, who was afraid
every day,
was driven wild with unmentioned fear;
always away
she was hidden beyond some lock and key,
never was gay
but doves gathered at her window sill,
many birds fluttered near at her will.
Without much love she was driven to work,
once she did flee
with the farmer and his labourers searching;
she was happy
while she was hiding in the large cornfield,
was from fear free,
later sneaked into the nearest church,
while drunk from the bar her husband did lurch.
Like a small animal she was hiding,
the minister
prayed for her but then took her back home,
quite sinister
acted the farmer as he whipped her,
did register
her into a lunatic asylum
and of his actions that was the sum.
The magpie's feathers did lie in her room
and she was gone
as if she had suddenly taken flight,
had moved on,
one day to a much better loving world,
but all alone
until his sudden death the farmer was,
they found him deep in a field of green grass.

Loving The Light Nights
The light summer nights are here at last;
The spirit of winter has finally passed.
Now, when I leave work, the sky is blue;
Until recently, it had a much darker hue.
On many a morning, there is a misty haze,
Then, during the day, the sun will blaze.
Now that the days are getting a little longer,
My soul, within, feels so much stronger.
When I walked home: when it was dark,
I never dared to walk through the park.
Now, there is nowhere for shadows to lurk,
As, in the daylight, I walk home from work.
Now, when a day's work has taken its toll,
Through the park, I feel happy to stroll.
In the light, the park is a pleasant place to be;
Enjoyed by everyone, up to a hundred and three.
Now, I often see other people in the park too,
And, no intimidating teens are within my view.
In winter, when it was dark, by late afternoon,
Teenagers got drunk, and litter was strewn.
I hated walking home, when the light had gone;
For it to be dark at 5pm, just seems so wrong.
It's lovely to be able to walk home in the light,
When, sometimes, the sun is still burning bright.
I love it when summertime officially starts;
I feel much happier: there's hope in my heart.
I would love long evenings for all of the year;
For the long summer nights, let's give a cheer!

The Farmer And The Stray Dog
the farmer arrives
bringing with him his
viand and rice
places it in the corner
of his hut,
the stray dog
gets in through its
sense of smell
and finds its catch
the farmer's
viand and rice
the catch is taken
far away
the farmer
is not angry for soon
a woman with a long
black hair arrives
bringing him
his broiled fish
and newly cooked rice
the woman is not
his wife
and there they are
under the shade of
the mango tree
the stray dog watches
as this story unfolds
to the final chapter
inside the hut
on such a very dark night
the dog is clever
and it knows the ending
the farmer is not angry
for dogs. mind you,
never tell.

Christmas Past
That very special time of the year was the Christmas Season of my yesteryears or when I was a child, and I think of those wonderful very loving season, each Christmas with a smile. There was the joy and the warmth of my family , and friends. And there was always a special love shown me, I tearfully recall, and at this time we'd all say "Merry Christmas," or when I was very small. There were always the little "Snowbirds", and they sang as they sat in the holly and in the spruce, and they came during Christmas Season, even when no snow fell to this ground. I remember feeding them little crumbs of bread, and I wondered where they came from, and when they'd last been fed. They were a cheerful part of Christmas too, and they were seemingly all around. These little "Snowbirds" of my childhood Christmas, filled the season, and those carefree days with such beautiful sights, and sounds. Even though they were such a small part of it all, they'll remain so dear to my heart. Those days the spirit of Christmas seemed to fill the hearts of the young, and the old, and Santa had his magical part, in all the stories I was told. He came from such a magical place, and the spirit of giving kept the smile upon his face. I felt sorry for him, it seems though, because of those very long trips, and I thought about him not having his Christmas at home, and about the elves, and Mrs. Clause being left every Christmas, and about them being alone. I thought about the reindeer, about leaving Santa cookies, and milk, but I thought of how hungry the deer must get too, so I once tried to buy a bale of hay, but I couldn't find a farmer in town anywhere, so I thought they must be placing some out, and everyone has a part to play. There were family members then who are now in Heaven, and they may be gone from my sight, but those past Christmas memories of them are alive, and well in my heart, and for them I will do what is right. Thank you Lord for letting me live, and think as a child in my past, and for this day with your beautiful name ... Thank you for giving us such a day, and you can feel love most everywhere, and this love was so special when I was a child, in such a mystical , magical way ... Thank you too, for the past Christmas' I've experienced as a child, and thank you for those I have loved, and those I haven't seen for a while, and thank you for the Angels, who were there to guard you on the day that you were born, and I'd like to believe they named Christmas to wish you a "Happy Birthday"...
