An inciting concert (or so was thought at the time)

I drive my yellow Bmw
with six cylinders roaring powerful
beneath a group of students
five pressed into the back
and three of us in the front

to listen to Koos Kombuis,
Johannes Kerkorrel, Bernoldus Niemand
and the Gereformeerde Blues Band
at the voëlvry tour.

The Afrikaans rock and roll concert
is banned at Stellenbosch
by the university
(probably by order of the government) ,

but another venue is found
where thousands of students turn up
at the Drie Gewels hotel
and it goes really jolly

and policemen with cameras
come to look
at who looks like communists
and whom they later
can crack down on.

Songs are sung
about government ministers
so and so
and we were told
who and what they really are

and we know
Johnny isn’t dead,
he’s just passed out
from all the drugs

and maybe in heaven
but probably
already in hell

and the maid Sara
makes green tea
for the man with the Bmw
that every now and then
embraces her
like a mother

and every thing goes well,
but for the policemen
who act like a group of clowns
trying to play spy

while criminals run loose
at other places
murdering, robbing
and stealing cars
and dealing out drugs to kids.

Rock 'N' Roll Band

If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
We'd travel all over the land.
We'd play and we'd sing and wear spangly things.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
And we were up there on the stand,
The people would here us and love us and cheer us.
Hurray for that rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
Then we'd have a million fans.
We'd giggle and laugh and sign autographs,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
The people would all kiss our hands.
We'd be millionaires and have extra long hair,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.
But we ain't no rock 'n' roll band,
We're just seven kids in the sand.
With homemade guitars and pails and jars
And drums of potato chip cans.
Just seven kids in the sand.
Talk'n and waven' our hands.
And dreamin' and thinkin' oh wouldn't it be grand,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

Growing Up In America!

you turned your children loose,
out in the streets of poverty....
only a few given a chance,

the rest left to fend for theirselves!
no jobs, unless you wanna soldier,
kill or be killed for oil....

then no jobs when you return,
and no house to return to!
food stamps and government aid,

till that eventually runs out....
then back on the streets where you started,
kill or be killed to survive....

dealing dope, dealing flesh, stealing cars,
no hope of anything more!
get caught and go to prison,

not in a gang, better join one!
poor white kids, poor kids of color,
growing up in America!

British Conservative Government Provokes Punters

British conservative government rises to power
on band wagon promise to abolish university fees
now with stiff upper lip their punters are stiffed
betrayal is rabid 300 percent rise in university fees

a policy like giving new home owners a free front door
then smiling innocently as you steal their castle houses
bring down clowns as fraud squad removes government
real clowns are dedicated professionals aiming to please

putting in hundreds of hours of dedication to get act right

Toronto Insite Clinic

Drug-addicts called 'clients' supported by nurses and support staff,
Illegal drugs bought on street and criminals just laugh,
Twelve injection booths to inject illicit drugs and get high,
Clean free needles, syringes, cookers, filters to help them fly.

Vancouver free site where drug addicts can do their drugs,
Though taxpayers pay for it and can get nothing but a shrug,
Though the Conservative government tried to close it down,
The Supreme Court told them to stop fooling around.

And now special-interest groups want one in Toronto too,
They would and could call it a health issue to bring it through,
And the taxpayers could pay the bills and take it on the chin,
Though the addicts bought drugs the street before they came in.

The Drug's Not Working

I was shooting in the back of the car
When the windows smashed on the police cars
I was swimming through the streets of New York
With my cocaine dagger and throats to cut
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
But it was making me high
She was a hooker at the age of 16
All she wanted was the money
She didn't need an I.D.
She was a junkie and I know its clich
But then so was her life
I mean, she lived in L.A.
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
But it was making her high
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
But it was making her high
And it was making her cry
And it was making her cry
(Riot in my skull, demons are coming)
And it was making her cry
(Los Angeles is dead, the drugs ain't working)
And it was making her cry
(Painted it all black, the chains are jerking)
And it was making her cry
(Los Angeles is dead, the drugs ain't working)
And it was making her cry
(Riot in my skull, demons are coming)
And it was making her cry
(Los Angeles is dead, the drugs ain't working)
And it was making her cry
(Los Angeles is dead, the drugs ain't working)
Riot in my skull, demons are coming
L.A. your dead, the drugs ain't working
Painted it all black, the chains are jerking
L.A. is dead, the drugs ain't working
L.A. your dead, the drugs ain't working
L.A. your dead, the drugs ain't working
The drugs ain't working
The drugs ain't working

The secret war that is raging in South Africa

The secret war that is raging in South Africa
asks for white blood,
these black people first kill and torture
before they take your possessions.

Incident upon incident I can tell about
where white families have been killed,
just think about the Orffer family
who was killed in Stellenbosch

on Friday 31 July 1994
by black people:

First the trustworthy black maid Sannetjie,
who tried to ward off the attackers with her bare hands
like a Amakeia of days gone,
then the blonde small girl

then the dad and the deaf little boy
and last the mother
were chopped with a axe to death
and everywhere there was blood.

Nowadays the tendency is
to first bind up the head of the family,
the man, to assault him
and to torture him to death in front of his family

and then to rape the women,
even toddlers and babies
and if the women are lucky
they survive

when the criminals
leave with their possessions
and it seems as if the police
do not want to, or are not able to stop this thing

and then it is claimed
that these people kill and steal
because they are hungry, while people in government
sings songs to wipe out whites.

From April 1994 when Nelson Mandela became president
the wiping out of white families is our destiny,
the Afrikaner nation is in the melting pot
we who have an own culture, language and identity,

who cannot become part of the hurly-burly
are killed, not only robbed
but tortured and horribly killed
and our women and children are raped.

Even Eugene Terreblancé
had befallen this same lot
and if this is not a war
that is raging against us,

where we are systematically
bit by bit, family by family
wiped out, and the numbers
are already in the thousands, then what is it?

We Are All On Drugs

When you're out with your friends
In your new Mercedes-Benz
And you're on drugs
And you show up late for school
'Cause you think you're really cool
When you're on drugs
And you put on your headphones
And you step into the zone
When you're on drugs
But the world don't care
If you are not there
'Cause you're on drugs
GIVE IT TO ME
We are all on drugs yeah
Never getting enough (never get enough)
We are all on drugs yeah
Give me some of that stuff (WOO)
And you twitch in your seat
'Cause you wanna hit the street
When you're on drugs
And you cause such a fuss
'Cause there's no one you can trust
When you're on drugs
And the best of your days
Will vanish into haze
When you're on drugs
And you wish you can quit
'Cause you're really sick of it
But you're on drugs
GIVE IT TO ME
We are all on drugs yeah
Never getting enough (never get enough)
We are all on drugs yeah
Give me some of that stuff (WOO)
I wanna confiscate your drugs
I don't think I can get enough
We are all on drugs yeah
Never getting enough (never get enough)
We are all on drugs yeah
Give me some of that stuff (WOO)

Little Brother

Hey little brother, youve got so much to discover
Cant you conceptualize what youre doing to our mother
Those drugs that you chose
Leave you left with the blues
Trust me Ive been there
To me its old news
Mending disaster
Youre heading there faster
Its tearing me up
To know you get __
Because youre caught up in the scene at the age of nineteen
__ at the age of where I had a dream
And those goddamn __ dirt drugs
Theyll fill you with doubt
Youre just getting sucked on a __
And you have to break out
You blacked out on the floor
You told me, the next day they found you that way
Those damn medications had your back baby
It hurt really to come all the way
Youre feeling so __
Youre looking for a place to land
Only understand
How the hell it gets so out of hand
I know that it hard
But youre risking being permanently scared
Youre hurting inside
But youre flirting with tragedy on the dark side
Those drugs that you chose
Leave you left with the blues
Trust me Ive been there
To me its old news
Hey little brother
You messed up another chance
Sooner or later you must take a stand
At the edge of it
All where it begins
To consume that product to its very end
How much time is left
Will it collapse
Will you confess your inner spiritless void
Spinning on no excess
You blacked out on the floor
You told me, the next day they found you that way
Those damn medications had your back baby
It hurt really to come all the way
Youre feeling so __
Youre looking for a place to land
Only understand
How the hell it gets so out of hand

Lesson in Perspective #1

Art students learn early on
what perspective means
by dint of practice

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE
An imaginary vanishing point
on the horizon takes on life
as students draw vertical lines
angling toward a meeting
at some distant point
far off the drawing paper

TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE
Pencil and straight edge
suffice as students put
pencil to paper drawing
cylinders in square boxes
like skeletons in coffins
floating on white sheets

STILL LIFE HOMEWORK
Lesson ends as students
are assigned to draw
a study done in pen
and india ink
of three cylinders
transformed into creamer,
cup and coffee pitcher
nestled together
in a still life

If people fabricate situations (in answer to Koos A. Kombuis)

If people fabricate situations
where you want to fit in
the culture, values and norms
(like in the voortrekkers or army)
of the Afrikaner

as if we are people
in whom everything is noted to book
who destroy ourselves
to fit into the system

you are totally lost
and maybe it’s in your own spirit
where the fear bites, bites
as if you yourself do not fulfil

do not know God, honour our serve Him
and systematically is busy destroying yourself
where you believe that Johnny has not died
from a overdose of drugs
and are just lying unconscious and you yourself
are existing half lifeless
as if you are standing at the forefront
of a new revolution
while really you are perishing like Johnny.

O The Pressures Of School

O the pressures of school
It is so heavy I feel like a mule
Slave everyday
I do not want to stay

O the pressures of school
The teachers know everything
And we know nothing
Choosing is not a choice
We are taught to be successful from people who are not
Just wish to be and wish us to be
But they know most of us will fail
Because we will bail
And live in jail
So we can tell our tale
Of how badly we wanted to prevail
But the pressures of school were too great

I don’t think they remember what its like to be in high school
Don’t they remember the pressures from their teachers to be better?
From there students to do drugs and smoke?
To choose to do shit that makes pressures go away but bring some different pressures?
At least we have a choice to do that shit
I think that’s where kids get caught
Choice, freedom, rebel…
Sweet sounds for a teenager worth the price
We hold the dice when it comes to these decisions
Finally we can control something
We are our own bosses
Yes we may loose
But lucky seven
Will take us to heaven

It is not easy finishing school
We are also just starting our complicated lives
Yes we need some guidance
But we don’t need to be on a choke hold
We don’t want to do what we’re told

We have pressures from society
From our family
From the academy
Hell we even have pressures from the TV!
Yet they still don’t see the large burden they put on our shoulders
They think, ‘what can some more pressure do?
Besides this pressure is good for you.’

All I want to do is write poetry
It is my drug
So I don’t have the pressures of taking drugs
It is my addiction
So I don’t need any smokes
It is in my family
So I don’t need pressures from my family
It is even my TV
So I don’t need a TV
So I can tell myself how I am supposed to look and how I am supposed to live my life
It is all I want from school
I know my English and I know how I feel
So I don’t need the pressures of school
All you need to be a poet
Is to turn your feelings into words
You don’t have to be successful
As long as it feeds you’re own pressures rather than the pressures of society

Yet O the pressures of school are so great
I cannot escape
Until their pressures are obliterate

The Kids That Changed My Life

when you are walking down the street or
in your highschool or college
or just driving to work and see a disabled person
wheelchair or not
don't feel sorry or petty them cause
they would not change or take away there disability
because it has made who they are today
but when you are thinking about having your own kids
here are some interesting facts

one in one hundred fifty kids are born with some type of Autism
one in one hundred eighty have one of the four types of c Palsy
one in one thousand have Down Syndrome
you have a 10% chance in having a disabled kid
even if you nor your partner have a disability
scary?
I don't think so

my life was changed by
one of those “disabled” kids
Sarah Carter
she is one of the smartest people I know
and funniest
I have ever met in my life
I would have never known getting to know
Sarah and the other students in the class
would have change my life or
because of Sarah and the other students
I had found my destiny
getting to know them was the best decision I will ever make
they have made me believe
that the most amazing people that you’ll find in the oddest places
or when you don’t expect

when I grow up I want to have a big family and
within that family I want a physically disabled child of my own
because the most powerful people are the ones that have to fight for life

those kids that were all my age
have shown me that being disabled can be a good thing or a bad thing
in all depends all on how you look at it
so thank you Sarah thank you Monica thank you Kurtis
thank you Kelsey thank you Anna-Karen thank you Cris
thank you Violet thank you Jasmin thank you Robert
and thank you to all the staff that made the classroom
that the kids that changed my life to go to school
because with out you
my life would still be at a dead end
and I wouldn’t have discovered that kids my own age
could change my life

Got to see yourself in others eyes, surprised?

jump up and die in your blue suede shoes
hey kids rock and roll

where do we go from here
which is the way that's clear
still looking for that blue jean baby queen
prettiest girl i've ever seen
see her die on my movie screens
