Rivers

In dreams we see the magical flight,
Of crystal waves flying free,
To where the glass of waters meet,
Cruise in a dream upon the sea.

Darkness split the billowing floods,
Flung out brooks into mighty rivers,
To wash the steps down the slopes,
Into slippery streams of tributaries.

Rivers of water run down our eyes,
And let fountain disperse into tears,
In search we find the painful wishes,
Define the sum of all our fears.

The rush of tears we cannot control,
Memories enter the draining basin,
Sorrows like rivers meanders in our soul,
Feelings poured into floodplain.

We heard their voices from the deep,
Soul of our soul where we cannot reach,
The cry which leaves the darken void asleep,
In lonely shadow seen on the beach.

Together we stand, amidst the defiant roar,
And souls that lie at ease deep beneath,
Sleep in tragic tombs amidst the surfing water,
And spirits sail on to the safest harbour.

The Negro Speaks Of Rivers

I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I've seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset.

I've known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

Tears Of A Guy

Lone child in the wild
A bird thats lost at sea
The words that whisper in the silent film
Say tomorrows gone for me
All night lying with your head in my hands
And I search for reasons why
But if I cant get to it - I cant get through it
All thats gone now - all thats...
The tears of a guy
Is all I ever see
The tears of a guy
So many rivers run to me
Wake up dreaming with the sun in my eyes
Hear me screaming, dont ask why
Some strange music from some sweet soul song
Says I cant feel it - I cant try
Time goes - and the fountain still flows
Ill be watching through fortunate eyes
But I cant get cured - I must endure
All thats gone now - all thats...
The tears of a guy
Is all I ever see
The tears of a guy
So many rivers run to me
Drift by the walls - this way
Babylon - in your eyes
Drift by the walls - this way
Babylon - in your eyes
So many rivers run through me
(and we will walk)
Oh little angel
Its all I ever see
(and we will rise)
So many rivers run to me
(and we will walk)
Oh my little angels
In your eyes
So many rivers run through me
In your eyes

Let The Tears Dry

Let the tears dry and bring back your smile,
Hear the mountains cry.
The tears will grow where you laid your tears,
Rivers will flow, rivers will flow,
Flow where you rest your fears.
A soul has fled when the blood was shed,
A soul that cared for life so deeply.
The memory will grow in us
And make you and I a family.

All The Rivers

'All the rivers run into the sea.'
Like the pulsing of a river,
The motion of a song,
Wind the olden words along
The tortuous turnings of my thoughts whenever
I sit beside the sea.

'All the rivers run into the sea.'
O you little leaping river,
Laugh on beneath your breath!
With a heart as deep as death,
Strong stream, go patient, grave, and hasting never,-
I sit beside the sea.

'All the rivers run into the sea.'
Why the passion of a river?
The striving of a soul?
Calm the eternal waters roll
Upon the eternal shore. At last, whatever
Seeks it-finds the sea.

'All the rivers run into the sea.'
O thou bounding, burning river,
Hurrying heart! I seem
To know (so one knows in a dream)
That in the waiting heart of God forever,
Thou too shalt find the sea.

Down in the deep water..

Down in the deep water
By the edge of the river
Where I ponder my life
Just how did I get to this

Down in the deep water
By the edge of the river
Where the waterfall of dreams
Sweeps away what’s left to the abyss

Down in the deep water
By the edge of the river
Where time stands still
just only forever.

Down in the deep water
By the edge of the river
Where I buried all
That was ever my childhood

Where I let it go,
Where it bends and meanders,
Twisting along as the years went past.
Seemingly calm, but screaming beneath the surface
Were its hidden whirlpools, a sweeping current

Down in the deep water,
I left the edge of the river,
As I looked down
For my soul at the bottom.

Deep in the deep water
Swept away by the river

I drowned in life,

......Sinking forever.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Floods

In the dark night, from sweet refreshing sleep

I wake to hear outside my window-pane

The uncurbed fury of the wild spring rain,

And weird winds lashing the defiant deep,

And roar of floods that gather strength and leap

Down dizzy, wreck-strewn channels to the main.

I turn upon my pillow and again

Compose myself for slumber.

Let them sweep;

I once survived great floods, and do not fear,

Though ominous planets congregate, and seem

To foretell strange disasters.

From a dream—

Ah! dear God! such a dream!—I woke to hear,

Through the dense shadows lit by no star's gleam,

The rush of mighty waters on my ear.

Helpless, afraid, and all alone, I lay;

The floods had come upon me unaware.

I heard the crash of structures that were fair;

The bridges of fond hopes were swept away

By great salt waves of sorrow. In dismay

I saw by the red lightning's lurid glare

That on the rock-bound island of despair

I had been cast. Till the dim dawn of day

I heard my castles falling, and the roll

Of angry billows bearing to the sea

The broken timbers of my very soul.

Were all the pent-up waters from the whole

Stupendous solar system to break free,

There are no floods that now can frighten me.

Alluring Brooks

Comely brooks are fine with an alluring kindness,
Beleaguering the brain with beautiful uprising;
These small rivers infect the daily activity,
Brooding on our minds like a becoming reason.
Shy, reserved rivers think like things that enable being,
Being concentrates with a redolent appeal
Like the small rivers of a summery day
Called brooks of divine authority,
Sempiternal water of the mind, feelings are same.

The Isle Of Founts

Son of the stranger! wouldst thou take
O'er yon blue hills thy lonely way,
To reach the still and shining lake
Along whose banks the west-winds play?
-Let no vain dreams thy heart beguile,
Oh! seek thou not the Fountain-Isle!

Lull but the mighty serpent king,
'Midst the grey rocks, his old domain;
Ward but the cougar's deadly spring,
-Thy step that lake's green shore may gain;
And the bright Isle, when all is pass'd,
Shall vainly meet thine eye at last!

Yes! there, with all its rainbow streams,
Clear as within thine arrow's flight,
The Isle of Founts, the Isle of dreams,
Floats on the wave in golden light;
And lovely will the shadows be
Of groves whose fruit is not for thee!

And breathings from their sunny flowers,
Which are not of the things that die,
And singing voices from their bowers
Shall greet thee in the purple sky;
Soft voices, e'en like those that dwell
Far in the green reed's hollow cell.

Or hast thou heard the sounds that rise
From the deep chambers of the earth?
The wild and wondrous melodies
To which the ancient rocks gave birth?
-Like that sweet song of hidden caves
Shall swell those wood-notes o'er the waves.

The emerald waves!-they take their hue
And image from that sunbright shore;
But wouldst thou launch thy light canoe,
And wouldst thou ply thy rapid oar,
Before thee, hadst thou morning's speed,
The dreamy land should still recede!

Yet on the breeze thou still wouldst hear
The music of its flowering shades,
And ever should the sound be near
Of founts that ripple through its glades;
The sound, and sight, and flashing ray
Of joyous waters in their play!

But woe for him who sees them burst
With their bright spray-showers to the lake!
Earth has no spring to quench the thirst
That semblance in his soul shall wake,
For ever pouring through his dreams,
The gush of those untasted streams!

Bright, bright in many a rocky urn,
The waters of our deserts lie,
Yet at their source his lip shall burn,
Parch'd with the fever's agony!
From the blue mountains to the main,
Our thousand floods may roll in vain.

E'en thus our hunters came of yore
Back from their long and weary quest;
-Had they not seen th' untrodden shore,
And could they 'midst our wilds find rest?
The lightning of their glance was fled,
They dwelt amongst us as the dead!

They lay beside our glittering rills,
With visions in their darken'd eye,
Their joy was not amidst the hills,
Where elk and deer before us fly;
Their spears upon the cedar hung,
Their javelins to the wind were flung.

They bent no more the forest-bow,
They arm'd not with the warrior-band,
The moons wan'd o'er them dim and slow-
-They left us for the spirit's land!
Beneath our pines yon greensward heap
Shows where the restless found their sleep.

Son of the stranger! if at eve
Silence be 'midst us in thy place,
Yet go not where the mighty leave
The strength of battle and of chase!
Let no vain dreams thy heart beguile,
Oh! seek thou not the Fountain-Isle!

Water Wings

Water Wings

I am of the water, and my dreams foretell my home.
I have dreamt of the water, it is where my mind does roam.
Life manages our paths by the steps that we take,
I want my path to lead to the ocean, where the waves do break.

The water glistens in my soul, and runs through my veins,
And when I am one with the water, I carry the reigns.
Whether on or under or flying above,
The water is my passion, it is my true love.

I wake from the night, from my hopes and my dreams
I wake to find a world with all water themes.
Surrounded by love and caressed by the air
I see the lord has accepted my little dare.

My dreams have become life, and I have transformed.
I am now an angel of the sea, and water wings I have formed.
The ocean, the sea, the lakes and rivers blue
They give me my strength and my life they do fuel.

My water wings glide and are as smooth as ice,
They are gift from the heavens and they much more than suffice.
I sit here and I rest, on the shore of the land,
Knowing, the lord is my savior, and my biggest fan.

Every Tear Dried

Golden dreams shine softly
Tears flow like Holy streams
Love broken by time begins again
In the open field sojourners meet

Reach for the other side of sorrow
All joy is a shadow of paradise
Nothing says goodbye forever
Everything is healed by the light

Hope can bare every heavy trial
We go where the rivers laugh
Out my window the moon rises
Tonight the stars are my map

The mighty sun lifts my soul
Go out and help all the lonely
What really matters is real love
Stripped of pretense we journey

Spring leaves like Eden awakening
Winter can't stop the emerald dream
Hear the ethereal song of the wind
Seasons of the heart prune and clean

No pharaoh shall stop the meek
Time is a very short hour glass
Stand your ground, never give up
Walk the straight and narrow path

The temples of music clap and sing
Sea of glass calm with triumphed peace
Everything healed in praise and song
Follow the mystic river to the eternal sea

Every tear dried, all things made right

The Rivers Too Wide

(morrison)
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
cause the rivers too wide
A gentle stream once flowed between us
But love could cross it easily
Till stormy skies brought bitter teardrops
And made that stream a raging river
Come between you and me
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
Theres no getting to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The current goes too deep for mending
It looks like an unhappy ending
cause the rivers too wide
Good lessons learned are not forgotten
We gave up love to save our pride
Next time Im faced with rising waters
Ill build a bridge of love and kindness
Reaching to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
Theres no getting to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The current goes too deep for mending
It looks like an unhappy ending
cause the rivers too wide

Rainbow Dancer

O Rainbow
your soft glow
echoes
pure love, ‘tis glorious

Would I know
if again you show
tomorrow
amidst agonies of my sorrows?

O Rainbow
Cast your halo
below
where rivers of tears flow…

Where my anguish grows
and throws
a shadow
against the window

…………………………
My rainbow,
I know
you’re dancing somewhere
out there

Or maybe right here
on a beach under a palm tree
In front of me, or somewhere near
by the shores of this south seas

Maybe somewhere far away
over leaping waves of the sea
I can only dream, you so fair
with that hibiscus in your hair

I wish I could see
that perpetual rhapsody
and hear you singing endlessly
O sweet tunes of the seas

O Rainbow…
I am now only a shadow
of the secret that is our love
That is the promise of love

But in my heart’s mind so lonely
pining hopelessly, helplessly
Please dance back to me
My one and only…….

Song Of A Dream

ONCE in the dream of a night I stood
Lone in the light of a magical wood,
Soul-deep in visions that poppy-like sprang;
And spirits of Truth were the birds that sang,
And spirits of Love were the stars that glowed,
And spirits of Peace were the streams that flowed
In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

Lone in the light of that magical grove,
I felt the stars of the spirits of Love
Gather and gleam round my delicate youth,
And I heard the song of the spirits of Truth;
To quench my longing I bent me low
By the streams of the spirits of Peace that flow
In that magical wood in the land of sleep.

Rain

Rain is electricity for my soul
Like a light switch turning on my emotions
The rain - soft, wet, warm embracing
Water in the desert of my world
Dusty leaves awaken to a new level of life
Emerald sparks for my existence

Rivers of rain drops cascading through my dreams
Innocents lost in white rains of destruction
Memories dismissed in streams of blue water
My yearnings embraced by grey streaks of rain
Sapphire tides ignite my abandoned passions
Wet moss green bandages for my heart

Restrained tears like salty drops born of infinite oceans
Traces of pain washed away by the rain
The rain - pleasing, moist, warm, forgiving
Water spilling over sidewalks as gestures of kindness
Slippery saturating encounters
Raindrops stir tidal motions in the name of love

My Hands

my hands have ten rivers
there are furrows of sorrows in the destiny of my palms
no mountain peaks to view the world
holistically,

my hands have ten crystal clear ponds
my hands mirror my face
my hands surrender
my hands open

they are all yours too and you are so cruel
you are telling me like you detest me in the residence of your full moon

you do not need rivers, you had enough of my surrender, you are ashamed
of open hands, you touch me and then you make a plea

'please close your hands and with your ten rivers, please sail away from me! '

i know what a full moon is. I too had enough of its light and silence.
i have the nerves of the stars, and i know what sailing away means.

let me thank you for your dark skies, your clouds are too heavy for me.
i am raining tears, too salty for my ten rivers.

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
Ive got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky
Everything has a season
Everything has its time
Show me a reason
And Ill show you a rhyme
Cats been on the window sill
Children fit in snow
Why do I feel I dont fit in
Any place I go
Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
Ive got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky
Every man has his day dream
Every man has hit goal
People like the way dreams
Have of sticking to the soul
Thunder clouds have their lightning
Nightingales have their soul
Cant you see I want my life
To be something more than long
Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
Ive got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky
So many men are destined
To settle for something small
Dont you know that I wont rest
Until you know I had it all
So dont ask where Im going
Just listen when Im gone
And far away youll hear me singing
Softly to the dawn
Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
Ive got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner

Keep Flowing

Between the closing dusk of sleep
and my descended night
I catch a spotlit vision
of living water glistening:
at times a pond of koi,
sometimes an overflowing cup,
a fountain, river or a flooded garden where I stand
gazing at my crystal feet
amongst the flowers.

Such visions come from down within the folds
and fissures of my brain,
dripping, trickling, rushing, and no one knows
the quantity of waters stored there, fed
by even deeper streams.

While deep within the ocean grows your brain
where nematodes and blind fish
swim and search among voluted fissures,
where bubbles from deep cracks and crevices
deeper than the highest Himalayas,
hotter than the icy pinnacles,
ooze lava, spew amazing rocks,
seethe and re-form the ocean floor,
shaking the earth crust, changing the world shape,
fill explorers who descend, who dare,
or those who wait above in gardens
with delight that only music, only voices penetrating
convoluted brains
can reach and touch and teach.

To me you are the ocean, constant, powerful and salty,
waves pulled by an unknown planet,
up and down the shore, in and out of billows,
smashing, crashing, and accepting
streams and rivers flowing in while
nothing flows out, only the fish, only the birds,
only the words, but only the sun
warms and evaporates the restless waters, gathering to herself
billowy clouds and moisture
that fall again
into my floods and pools and fountains
from the highest Himalayas
into the rivers
that return to you,
to you.

To my incomparable GWH, his poem below:
Excuses

Horses: excuses for feet in a stirrup.
Pancakes: excuses for maplesweet syrup.
Wives who’ve stuck with you forty odd years––
I’ll tell you their meaning, allaying the fears
of those who consider them as mere excuses
for resting their feet eating syrupy juices.
They’re writers of narratives that are men’s stories,
perennially constant as blue morning glories,
deluding their spouses to think they’re the heroes
of nightscented stories whose glory is eros,
while they are the heroines pulling the string
on the puppets persuaded to buy them a ring
nearly forty odd years before their anniversary.
Excuse this mere outline for being so cursory;
To find out precisely why they are a blessing
is cheating, because they love keeping you guessing.

Where The Waters Meet

today i feel good
i walked in the water
loved how it felt under my feet
i look out in the oceans
and wonder
where the waters meet

so i walk i untill the water meets my breast
i look around and see more water
am i in the middle
where the waters meet

do it feel me
where the water meets my skin
so warm and soft
but yet so i wonder
where the waters meet

i give in to the waves
and lean till i float
close my eyes and i feel my self drift away
where the water meet i will never know

where the waves take me is where ill go
where the water meets my soul
