George Meredith

The Main Regret

[Written for the Charing Cross Album]

I.

Seen, too clear and historic within us, our sins of omission
Frown when the Autumn days strike us all ruthlessly bare.
They of our mortal diseases find never healing physician;
Errors they of the soul, past the one hope to repair.

II.

Sunshine might we have been unto seed under soil, or have scattered
Seed to ascendant suns brighter than any that shone.
Even the limp-legged beggar a sick desperado has flattered
Back to a half-sloughed life cheered by the mere human tone.

Seed

The seed of the soil
Sown by the palms of man
To an opportune terrain
For the endowment of dowry
To the daughters of the soil
To hail the seed of man
Perpetuation of seeds of legacy
Genesis of offspring
Heirloom to human flux
As parts a divine truth - seed the vital force
Of the timelessness of being

Sonnet- God Is Very Just

What mortal sin, a beggar lame would do,
Denied of food and shelter, dress to wear?
He lives at the mercy of Nature too;
Diseases, problems that he cannot bear.

What mortal sins, the blind would dare to do?
They live in darkness, neglected, alone;
In vain, they try to 'see' God's Nature too,
Like you and me, for they are not of stone.

But mortal sins- the ones well-formed much do,
with intact senses, duping God and world;
Yet, Mother Nature seems to help them too;
Into the Pit of Hell, they will be hurled!
The handicapped and beggar will see God,
But not the 'Wholesome, sinful one' from clod.

A Bored Apple Seed............[Humor, i hope]

While sitting in our screen house I spit out one apple seed.
You'd think it would be grateful since from my mouth it had been freed.
But no, you ungrateful seed. Instead you turned and looked at me,
a frown upon your face, indeed!
You landed upon a white-painted floor plank, a few feet from the ground.
From there you saw trees and grass and bushes all around.
Perhaps you wished you had feet so you could find a spot, to sprout your stuff
instead of sitting idle, a seed without a pot.

[Or maybe you spied my bird feeders, stocked with sunflower and nyjer seed.
To them the titmice and chickadees, and goldfinches come to feed.
Could you possibly wish, if you could not sprout, to be eaten by a bird,
and vanish until the bird poops you out? ]

Where you landed it does not get wet, so you cannot reach the soil.
You look now so unhappy; I think your apple anger is about to boil.
I suppose the least I could do is give you a big kick, and knock
you off the flooring, onto fertile ground to grow into a stick.

[But I DIDN'T and now another week's gone by.]

I'm back, my little apple seed, and as I settle into my chair,
I notice a marked change in your appearance that last week wasn't there.
You no longer frown nor even look at me, sadness and anger are no longer shown,
but instead you're just a bored apple seed, like many other seeds I have known.

The Seed

In the spring
when the air has warmed.
I
planted a seed
a tiny seed.
I
along with my faith
to Mother Earth entrusted it.
I
hoped she would
nourish and coax the blossom
hidden within that seed so small.
To
spring forth in the summertime
with
its beauty its fragrance.
That all may behold and enjoy.
Until
autumn time
when back it returns
to a seed to sleep
to wait.
To be reborn.

Seed, Qou Vadis?

seed falling on the ground
brought by a night bird
wet by the rain of dusk

you have no choice
but to crack your hard covering
and then grow

some roots and leaves
in time's blessing
some flowers
then fruits

then the silence of the wilting
follows
to be back into a seed again
eaten by this night bird
and thrown back
to a distant soil

seed,
you must begin
your cycle again

for what choice do you have?
the night bird does not
even know
and the soil simply receives you
and the rain of the dusk
simply wets you
and they do not even know
what & why
they are doing all these

this is the cycle
of the seed of life
and wilting and death

Sins Of Our Fathers

It's a seed planted
By the history of our forefathers
That is in you and I my brothers
Yes! You too my sisters
Are plaqued by the same seed
The same seed that assumed
A place of comfort
In the garden of my father's father's father,
Further and farther from root level
It found its way through the bark to us the branches
And now as we grow leaves
And new buds from us emerge
The seed find its way to our children and so I pray,
Let us children be not held accountable
For the sins of our fathers

We suffer from self doubt and self inadequacy
We ask ourselves the same question
That others before us asked
Who am I to make it,
When in my family no one did?
The question is in you
The question is in me
Yes! You can trace it back to the seed
The same seed that history
Planted in our forefather's garden
To us poverty is congenital
And mediocrity congenial
But how can I believe in myself
When even my father doubt me?
I guess it all begins with me
As a man thinketh, so is he
So hear me father I pray
Let us children be not held accountable
For the sins of our fathers

Did You See What Jesus Did?

'Unclean, unclean' the leper had to say
and sadly watch the people run away.
But then to Jesus at the mountainside he came
to be healed of all his sickness and his shame.

Look, did you see what Jesus did?
He touched the leper from whom they hid.
The Holy One touched this unclean soul
and took away his shame making him whole.

Jesus can do the same for you and me
for stricken and smitten of God was He.
All our sins on Him have been laid
when on the cross sins price was paid.

At Calvary His blood He shed
and for our healing suffered and bled.
'Father, forgive' out loud He cried
and the law of God was satisfied.

The leprosy of our sin upon Him was laid
as the price upon that cross He paid.
Deep healing of body, soul and mind
there at the cross of Jesus we can find.

The Seed

The wind carried the seed
Into the air to who knows where
Across the weeds, floated the seed
Until to rest on the earth, which laid bare.
And then cried the seed upon the rise
Someday I, I will be a tree,
Liken my brothers, who will be like me
And I will grow to touch the sky.
The seed again journeyed upon the wind
Over the grass and wooded paths
Above the trees, cousins to him
Past the flowers who were his friends.
While he dreamed someday; he too would have many limbs.
The seed finally lighted upon the ground
From where he chose, so his mighty roots would grow
God will water me and give me light, he cried
He will also destroy my enemies and help me rise,
But then arrived a bird, who ate the seed.

Soils

The soil was baked very hard and the seed bounced off
I would not listen to God and would only scoff
It was unreceptive and unrepentant ground
And no time or place for God's Word was to be found

Littered with many stones and exposing no ground
Full of crevasses but little soil was to be found
The seed fell into a crack germinating there
It grew quickly but shrivelled under the suns glare

Covered with weeds and leaving so very little soil
My life all mixed up and full of care and turmoil
The Word of God tried hard to germinate and grow
But the cares and worries of this world choked it so

The soil was prepared and I readily received
God's Word was spoken and as I heard and believed
It sprang up in my heart over many a year
And blossomed and bloomed as I saw the fruit appear

Mrs. Sibley

The secret of the stars, -- gravitation.
The secret of the earth, -- layers of rock.
The secret of the soil, -- to receive seed.
The secret of the seed, -- the germ.
The secret of man, -- the sower.
The secret of woman, -- the soil.
My secret: Under a mound that you shall never find.

Once And Once More

I silently bear the agony of waiting
Like the parched soil
That waits for the clouds to weep
The seed that craves in pain
For the first touch of rain!
I endure it flesh and soul
Watching in slow motion
The transformation of time
Stoically without a heartbreak
I survive the agony of a wait.
I know my dreams will arrive
The clouds will pour on the soil
Raindrops will pierce the seed
New life will burst forth
My wait will begin…once more!

My Pathkeeper

If I chose to listen to what man had to say
Elvis would be still living today
The world would be flat
And that would be that
For my answers I have to pray
Only Jesus knows the way

How many times has man
Filled me with hope
When everything failed
Then I had to cope
With the fallout from their advice
But Jesus, He paid the price

Because of the cross
We all have been freed
For He cleansed the soil
And he planted the seed
The choices I make
Will only then show
If the seed will die or grow
We will reap just what we sow

My life was so empty,
But He filled it up
A great leap of faith,
Then I drank from His cup
Then the sun, it shone in,
From darkness to light
The lamb that was soiled
Now pure, clean and white

For years in my life
I only could mock
He makes me need
To be a part of his flock
I will no longer stray
I'll dispose of my pride
With You I will stay
I will stand by Your side

Thank you for Your mercy
Thank you for Your Grace
Because of Your will
I am back in the race
I fell off the path
But You made me rise
You show me the world
Through different eyes
So now I can see
I'm not blind anymore
From the destructive storm
You pulled me ashore
My vessel You guided
My hand You held tight
You never let go
You showed me Your fight
For Your plan is so perfect
Your plan is so sweet
Because of Your love
You make me complete.

Over And Undone

IF one might hope that when we say farewell
To life, we two might but be one at last!
But we look back on a divided past,
And a divided future must foretell.
Apart we sowed the seed that flowers in hell,
The seed that blooms in heaven apart we cast:
See what remembrances my heart holds fast--
Ask your own heart what deeds you deem done well!

The memory I find my heaven in
Is that one hand-touch you regret as sin;
Your goodness, dear, that stood between us two
And made my hell, may make a heaven for you;
So evermore must lie our souls between
The kiss unkissed, the infinite might-have-been!

Spring Plowing

Deeply furrowed,
the wide field
lies in muddy chaos.

Smell the sweet clay
as it fills this cloudy spring day.

Earth’s dark womb
lies bare.
Gleaming plow,
efficient engine
sunder black skin of soil
to plant the seed
deep
beneath the future.

See how it will be.

On a warm, summer’s morn
static breast
will rise with deeper breath,

and muddy death
give way
to ascendant, golden day

In My Dream, light plays!

Night is the time,
Sleeping in infinite nothing,
becoming nothing in beloved
embrace,
forgetting everything! In the lap of beloved enjoy
dreams,
may some come true,
Some may not,
Observing dreams one sees the
light within,
Randomly light plays in my dream
At the dawn, with gentle breeze,
Dreams melt, innerlight into light
of world,
Never go back to sleep,
If you sleep at dawn,
What will be there at dusk? If dustfree dawn make you sleep,
Failing to Smile and work,
If can't feel lighter in the light of
dawn,
Sure the darkness covering light,
Will make you faint at dusk!

Seeds says seed of immortality
is packed in mortal seed coat!
DNA sings, its immortality
covered in mortality of seed,
Finally Life sings,
Immortality of life is packed in mortal DNA,
and Self whispers, my
immortality is sung by mortal
life!

Disorder.

Thousands of years I roam around these regions,
Where I no more find my darling pigeons,
I stand here at half past three at night,
Behind me is the esplanade empty in delight,
Gone are the human to have their rest,
Come back to disturb me again at eight,
I am the soul of this oceanic earth, under hallucination,
Dumped are those wastes on my plantation,
Gardens of corals gone forever, on the sea bed,
Companions of fauna seldom visit to feed,
Human dump their waste as if I am their bin,
Barges and boats threaten us, who are in,
Not enough having our own hot and fast currents,
Ignorant human test their weapons in forefront,
Thousands of species sick, unhealthy and mutated,
As far as unseen, nothing happens to these half baked,
Scientists and politicians of the new world,
I am the soul of the oceans, chased into the deep water,
Once in a while I, too visit the shore of soil not to trigger,
The tsunami or hardship to the children of my breast,
Who wandered naked in the virgin jungles and forests,
These human not only dress themselves with attires,
They expose all my curves in bright xenon and neon glamor.

An Easy Mistake To Make...

'O Autumn mist! O solemn shroud! O cloud that walks the Earth!
Please hide the sins God disallowed that haunt me from my birth!
Come freeze them hard, come melt them down, come bear them all away!
Forbid them not to make God frown upon His Judgement Day!
Approach me now, encroach my heart, my spirit and my soul -
That with my sins you may depart that I may find parole!
Let guilts diminish one by one, evaporate from sight
And once the healing has begun, leave me all sparkling white! '
'Forgive me, human, if you will! I cannot bring release!
You need God's Son on Calvary's Hill! His Blood will grant you peace!
What sacrifice could I convey to match the Saviour's Blood?
Believe in Jesus Christ today! Have faith and trust in God! '
'O mighty mist, your words are true! Lord Jesus died for me! '
'I'm glad you're saved! May God bless you! God's Love's no mystery! '

Whatever that you think you lack – give that! ’ –
this saying, heard, lodged in my mind a space;
like seed that hides in earth – yet not inert:
its hidden clock an instrument of grace;

the mind, the soil, that meanwhile, does not know:
it neither knows what lies in its embrace,
nor its own precious nutrients which grow
this seed; nor sees the Sower, nor His grace –

until one day, when in some Spring of light,
I realised: I, meanly, denied – praise:
the praise of human beings in my sight;
and thus, the praise of that One source of praise..

so sought occasion, each and All to praise;
now Praise, with golden hand, seeds all my days.

Sins Of Omission

On the fringes of torso and lips
Straining to hear the voice of gospel choir
Pummelled plains and beaten fields
Were never broken in spirit within
But I feel like were coming around
Yes, I feel like were coming around
Tell me
Cloud burst teeming, insect wave and bite
Yes its true, we are not alone
Tv silence its a narrow entrance
Its a sometimes leading into future time
But I feel like were coming around
Yes, I feel like were coming around
I feel like were coming around
Sins of omission, no love
Sins of omission
I heard it once before in shepherds isolation
Over the horizon in blue and white now, now
Now overcome you can outrun it
When the roarings cease and the right stuff weaves and fits into your life
And I feel like were coming around
Yes I feel like Im coming around, tell me
Sins of omission, no love
Sins
