Some Thoughts About Numbers

There are numbers we always work with to count or add, subtract, divide and multiply
in the times of the day, days of the week and month, months of the year which all fly;
Is this the right time? What year is this? How old are you? When were you born?
We seem to live and die by the measure of numbers in this world that we all adorn!

How much do you earn and how much do you spend?
Do you save anything at all for a rainy day my friend?
Does it cost much to buy and how much do you need?
You'll get there on time if you travel at a certain speed!
How many children have you got and how old are they?
How many toys have you bought them with which to play?

Have you ever seriously thought about the world population explosion?
Or the number of trees cut down to cause a problem with soil erosion?
How many people are there in the world today?
How many of them are born and die each day?
How many creatures can the earth possibly support?
What do those current figures tell in that final report?
How much longer will it or can it all last?
When was the beginning back in the past?

We all like to quantify and to accomplish so much
no matter how long it takes if worthwhile to touch.
The majority of people want to have more of things
particularly money to which most of their life clings.
It's no wonder as we have given a value to everything;
all we use or need: clothes, water, electricity, gas and food
even the situations that help to capture or satisfy our mood.
When are we going to start paying for the air that we breathe now?
or are we already secretly paying a costly price for it somehow?
By the way, what is your favourite or lucky number?
What is your address, postcode and telephone number?
How many times have you seen lightning without thunder?
And just how tall are you and how much do you weigh?
How far do you live from work and have to travel each day?

Everything we see, imagine and create has a size or apparent dimension for us.
We unknowingly strengthen but don't fully realize the importance of numbers.
Here's a couple for you to think about: What is the largest number?
What will be the exact distance of the furthest object seen in space
recognized by mankind at a pre-determined or given time and place?

We play games by and with numbers; seen in the throwing of dice;
the deck of cards, making a bid in poker, collecting the pot is nice;
and in sport that winning or losing score
but sometimes it only just ends in a draw!
And who can say what are the odds of such a thing happening?
It feels great to be first or number one, for a while considering.
.
When we read a book usually most of the pages in it are numbered
and there were only so many copies of that particular edition printed.
Sometimes if it's a bestseller the bookshop gets to be out of stock
and has to re-order more copies from the publisher down the block
who in turn might have to authorize a second printing of that edition
thinking all the time how much more he'll make from this requisition.

What was the mark you got for that test?
and how long does it take to be the best?
When was the first and last time
that you received a parking fine?
What amount then did you have to pay?
How long over the restrictions that day?

During an election time all those people eligible to vote must give their preferences
to determine which party or person is to be elected and counting then commences
on or after a specified hour to find out who has received the majority of votes,
or in other words gained the biggest number counted to their favour that notes
and then decides the final outcome for them to govern or be in office genuinely.
So it's those who have or gain the right numbers that help them to win eventually.

Have you ever thought about what they're going to do to you when or after you die?
Well, sooner or later they are going to measure you up from head to foot as you lie,
probably all over in fact and then make a coffin based on the measurements taken
to put your body in so that they can bury it in a grave which has been undertaken;
dug to a certain depth, length and width that will be your body's final resting place
and there's an amount to pay for this as well when the time comes for that space.

What is the original perfect number?
Is it absolute zero or one thereafter?

There are many things that we don't know being of an unknown number
and all that we do know is somewhat always related to a known number.

Zero Covers All

Lately I realize.
I am a numb number,
living through life.
First child.
Date of birth.
Sixth star of twenty-seven.
Scorpio numbers six of twelve.
Studied tenth class,
Then 5-year’s graduation,
Every class I had a scroll number.
Exams written on id number.
Studied law.
Head churning three years,
with numbered sections.
Penal code, constitution.
Clauses of law in numbered sects.
Registered in bar council.
Legal practice.
Case files are numbered.
Subsequently I got,
House number, door number.
Phone number.
Mobile number.
Account numbers.
Credit card number.
Pan card number,
Folio numbers,
Car number,
License number,
Policy number,
Health card number,
Election card number,
Passport number,
Ration card number,
Ultimately, when you put me in morgue,
allotted me a number.
Which, I do no know.
However, I know a number.
I am a big zero.
It covers all my life
Yes, we discovered zero.
What a relief?
Does it not cover all?
fulfill all values!
By the way your number please?
X number or N number?
Infinite numbers.

Numerical Tyranny

Who conspired
this needless need for
the numbers?
Now we all live in fear of
the numbers
tremble at the feet of
the numbers
live our lives according to the demands of
the numbers
Identify ourselves by
the numbers
we've sold ourselves short with
the numbers
locked ourselves in a cell with
the numbers
no one believes they can escape
the numbers
our status our worth
our health our happiness
all dictated by
the numbers
Who are you?
Are you just another
number?

For if only we could see the truth behind
the numbers:
the truth being
there is only one number
that number is one
and that one stretches on
through infinitude.

First Past The Post System Feb 10th,2011

First-past-the-post system ensures that the winners indeed know the score,
Because the collected votes of the others combined are much more,
And then add that proportional representation is banned,
Some constituents don’t vote because they feel the outcome is canned.

Because their votes are meaningless in the mishmash of numbers,
First-past-the-post ensures that the majority are outnumbered,
And no one seems interested in fixing this problem,
They are too busy talking or waving some flag or some emblem.

It is not an election task that is easily explained,
Number one has ten votes more than number two and twelve more than three,
So two and three combined have much more votes than number one,
Number one always wins and majority loose and this is not fun.

A terse poem on numbers

Numbers are everywhere
twenty four hours in a day
seven days in one week
thirty one in the month of May.
A number on your front door
and on houses down your road
numbers on your credit card
and also of your postal code.
Numbers called out at Bingo
two fat ladies are number eight
and if your numbers come up
you'll go home feeling great.
Would you like a cup of tea?
one or two sugars in your cup?
sorry but I have to go now
that's the end time is up!

Divorced from Dumb Reality - Number Lesson on Numb Pointless Love

DIVORCED FROM DUMB REALITY
My fun begun with number one,
swore to be true to number two,
happy to be with number three,
then to adore fair number four.
No more alive is number five,
mix stones and sticks Styx number six,
who’s in heaven, number seven?
its now too late for number eight.
Another line for number nine,
begin again with number ten.

Think of a number

Think of a number, from 1 to 10
(Haven't played this since you know when)
Double it, add..? No, start again.

Think of another, from 2 to 9
(Were these the numbers we'd combine?)
No, that's not right - wrong line!

Think of a number, from 3 to 8
(Was what I heard from my schoolmate?)
No, come on John now, concentrate.

Think of another, from 4 to 7
(I know, if added, it's 11
And - 'all good children go to heaven')

Think of a number, from 5 to 6
(And here I'm getting in a fix)
I'm bad at these arithmetics.

Let's try again, from 6 to 5
(For this I bet we had to strive)
It's like the last - let's not revive.

Think of a number, from 7 to 4
(This game could run forevermore)
I'm lost, I've now forgot the score.

Think of another, from 8 to 3
No matter what the answer be
I'm sure it's baffling you and me.

Think of a number, from 9 to 2
Have you really any clue
What this riddle's meant to do?

Think of a number, from 1 to 10
No! ...
I can't go through all that again!

Number power with zero

What has it to with absolute zero?
No person can enjoy position and called hero
He will be wealthy man if number is followed by zeroes
His position becomes supreme as he has suddenly rose

Words without number may represent hollowness
It may carry no impact if number misses
If zero follows the number then it will add to magic
Person may come in to life for playing the music

In words... there is 'o' representing zero.
So it will practically make you zero
With many zero's after 1 (one)
You will be knows as wealthy one

Zero and numbers are supplement and multiplier
They are considered as booster and energy supplier
Individual comes in to real form after receiving fortune
Others may follow his words and virtually dance to his tune

Sometimes numbers may upset your empire
They will alter the course and stop to admire
People may quickly abandon you and follow another person
These are some of the basic facts about zero and numbers with reasons

Feel

I gave you everything all I could give
It might not have been the life you thought youd live
I know it feels good to have you by my side
Even though I know you could just break my heart wide
I just have to ask you, one more time...
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I help you see like stars and the sun?
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I make you feel like lifes just begun?
Its like a puzzle, a piece that just fit
You never really needed to look for it
In your eyes I see my future and my past
I never really thought that we would last
I just have to ask you, one more time...
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I help you see like stars and the sun?
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I make you feel like lifes just begun?
We have seen all the good times and the bad
Waitin' for the next part we never had
To the highest mountain, yeah, I would climb
I just have to ask you, one more time
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I make you see like stars and the sun?
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I make you feel like lifes just begun?
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I help you see like stars and the sun?
Did I make you feel like number one?
Did I make you feel like lifes just begun?

Numbers

Its stranger how some numbers
keep recurring in our lives.
At first, we do not notice it
until one day we think of them.
Our date of birth, houses numbers we have lived in,
our children’s birth date
and our brother or sister’s date of birth.
When you look at them
and one number seems to readily appear,
you begin to wonder if that number
has some bearing on our lives.
The number linked to my life is number 8.
I was born on the 18th,
in Canada the house I grew up in was 28
and my sister was born on the 18th.
Moving to England our house number was 62.
When my wife and I got married,
our first house was 24,
our second house was 18
and our present house number is 107.
My wife’s birth date is the 8th;
my son was born on the 17-8-71.
Everywhere I look the number 8 just keeps popping up.
Coincidence I guess you could call it,
or is there something else a foot.
I will just let you the reader to decide.

3 September 2009

Author’s note.
The evening I wrote this, my wife went out, was talking to someone, and mentioned how the number 8 always appeared in our lives.
Coincidence?

Top Ten Reasons I Would Make a Lousy Poetry Critic

(Letterman style countdown)

Number Ten: Because I probably lack the skill to determine where another’s failings lie
Number Nine: Because I doubt that anyone else really has such infallible skill
Number Eight: Because I lack the desire to render negative opinions of another’s work
Number Seven: Because I question the true motives of any one who readily renders scathing critiques
Number Six: Because I believe in positive reinforcement rather than accentuating negatives
Number Five: Because I don’t wish to have any hand in discouraging or killing the dreams of other poets
Number Four: Because I believe that what people write is far more important than the skill they show in doing it.
Number Three: Because the majority of poetry derives from a warm heart and most criticism originates from cold indifferent intellect
Number Two: Because I know what it feels like to be on the other end of the equation

And the Number One reason I would make a lousy poetry critic:

Because, poetically speaking, I live in a glass house.

Knowing you might some day come

Knowing you might some day come
and how unprepared I’ve always
been
like Mr. Sloppy
in Charles Dickens’
our Mutual Friend
I made a list:
not meat, vegetables, beer and pudding
but number l, warmth.
number 2, warmth.
number 3, warmth.
number 4, a good snuggler.
number 5, someone who sings
while he/she works.
number 6, a dancer.
number 7, someone who grows & is
intrigued by
the mind. And
by the spirit too.
Number 7, someone who is loved
by animals; and loves
them back without
a thought.
number 8, someone who smells
delicious.
number 9, someone whose anger
lasts no longer than mine.
number 10, someone who
stands beside me. behind me. If necessary
in front of me.
number 11, someone who
is a passable cook.
number 12, Someone who laughs
a lot, thinks I have a fine
sense
of humor
& has friends.
number 13, someone who can be
original in dress:

Public Animal #9

Me and G.B.
We ain't never gonna confess
We cheated at the math test
We carved some dirty words in our desk
Well now it's time for recess
Old man waitin by the monkey bars
Tradin all his ball cards
And they promised him a gold star
And they told him he could go far
Hey Mr. Bluelegs
Where are you takin me?
I'm like a lifer
In the state penitentiary
If I keep my nose clean
I won't get my eyes shined
But I'm proud to be
Public Animal Number Nine
License plates are runnin
Out of my ears
I'd give a month of cigarettes
For just a couple of lousy beers
Or even a bottle of
Real cheap wi-hine
But that's the price you pay to be
Public Animal Number Nine, Number Nine
Hey Mrs. Cranston
Where are you takin me?
I feel like a lifer
In the state penitentiary
She wanted an Einstein
But she got a Frankenstein
Yeah, I'm proud to be
Public Animal Number Niiiirrrrrgh
Public Animal Number Nine
Public Animal Number Nine
Public Animal Number Nine Nine
Public Animal Number Nine Number Nine
Number Nine Number Nine
Number, Number Nine Animal Number Nine
Public Animal Number Nine Nine
Public Animal Numbergh Niiiirrrrrgh

P.s.

P:The statistician and the poet need each other,
But not yet.

S:You need us now.
Without a theory of probability
To guide you -

P:Not the unguided but the unguarded moments
Are the most beautiful

S:Poetry is measure and measure now is population
All signs signify groupings: we count people.

P:There are nonmeasurable groupings that defy
Time and space and run wild as numbers

S:We call that Brownian motion, stochastic.

P:Stochastic rain, stochastic snow, the populace,
The monkeys who sleep in different groups each night
Unpredictable in the rain forest.

S:I seem to remember that image from the work of Cohen,
A statistician of monkey sleeping groups

P:This is the rain forest and it has no scientists
Only invaders, stripminers, depopulaters
The clever critic made a joke about the word
Depopulater and the sophomores laughed.

S:What you need isn't the apocalypse but the apocalyx
Taking off the green shield of the flower
In whose middle you'll find the new peopling

P:Number may be the sine qua non of lyric
But without number lyric is still lyric
Without number or the space or time it yields it is still lyric
But strip statistics of number and there is nothing

S:There is collective rhythm

P:The next dance then?

Number three is never free

of being last

of walking past the door where four and five

Have thrived in knowing

they have survived six and seven

While three is not counted

Doing together
The work with us
We three in number
Gather mangofruits

And in peace
And we can not live

Life Is Like A Number Line

Life Is Like a number Line,
Between negative infinity to positive infinity,
At the middle have that zero,
All are finite numbers,
Zero stands for nothing,
Infinity for everything,
But zero is some how useful,
When it is with numbers on proper side,
Infinity is useless as it engulf all!

Numbers are special on their own,
Some are positives, have mirror images in negatives,
May be integers or fractions,
May be rational or irrational,
Some are real and some are imaginary,
These make number of life complex,
Polynomaials with complex roots,
Or with complex coefficients,
If we take them on XY plane, they act and interact with one another,
Some make us laugh, as we find the answer,
Some brings us to sober, as they remain as mystery!

But life Is not to dimensional,
Multi dimensional it is,
So multidimensional space of life make it wonderful,
A wonder out of reach of all!

But modular sets can draw some with some similarities
If you want to become mathematician,
Learn to play with them, bearing all headache they cause!

Otherwise either multiply all numbers by zero,
And yourself too, become zero,
Or merge all in infinity to wash your dirty hands,
If you want to know what is life,
Become a mathematician to play with numbers,
Life Is nothing but interaction of real with real or real with imaginary, positive with positive,
Negative with negative,
Or positive with negative,
Rational with rational,
irrational with irrational, most of time a rational with irrational,
But noone is perfect like zero among finite,
And no one can't say anything about the infinite!

The Soul is that space on which all numbers play according to the karma and thoughts!

Oops this interactions of numbers is life!

Number Six

If the only numbers I knew
were one through number five
then if number six showed itself
how would my mind survive?
All the things we believe to be true
form our perception of reality.
But sometimes a truth will stare you in the face
and then you must change your view.

Some will say I don't believe it
no matter what they see.
They'll close their eyes to all of it
and pretend that this can't be.
Those that keep their minds open
will welcome number six.
They recognize the world around them
is different in how it ticks.

Number One Through Five

Making adjustments in one's life,
To accomodate the needs for another...
Who bothers not to call or show,
To let the adjustment maker know...
Things have changed.
And time was not there,
To permit one to become aware of it!
Needs only to happen just once!

To allow this event to re-occur,
AND 'then' complain?
Should say five words,
That has particular meaning...
To the one who believes,
Patience is a virtue.
NOT!

Number one...'Yes'
Number two... 'I'
Number three..'Am'
Number four... 'A'
Number five... 'Fool'

The repeating of this,
Should do something to assist in the 'awakening'.
