Byron

To Mr. Murray

To hook the reader, you, John Murray,
Have publish'd 'Anjou's Margaret,
Which won't be sold off in a hurry
(At least, it has not been as yet);
And then, still further to bewilder em,
Without remorse, you set up 'Ilderim;'
So mind you don't get into debt,
Because as how, if you should fail,
These books would he but baddish bail.

And mind you do not let escape
These rhymes to Morning Post or Parry,
Which would be very treacherous--very,
And get me into such a scrape!
For, firstly, I should have to sally,
All in my little boat, against a Galley;
And, should I chance to slay the Assyrian wight,
Have next to combat with the female knight.

I Read the 'Christabel';
Very well:
I read the Missionary';
Pretty - very
I tried at Ilderim ;
Ahem!
I read a sheet of 'Marg'ret of Anjou';
Can you?
I turn'd a page of Scott's 'Waterloo';
Pooh! pooh!
I look'd at Wordsworth's milk-white
'Rylstone Doe';

At the same time, I think books create a sort of network in the reader's mind, with one book reinforcing another. Some books form relationships. Other books stand in opposition. No two writers or readers have the same pattern of interaction.

An Alliterative Lament

One March Monday morning
A dark dismal day,
The snow slowly sleeting,
We wending our way.

Just two tired tradesmen
In life's lonely lanes,
Both thoughtlessly thinking
Of bed in our brains.

Temptation entreating us,
'Wait a wee while...
Why have you to hurry? '
It says with a smile.

But we will not wait
Or sit silently still
'Til the day's deeds are done,
We must make to the mill;

There to firstly fulfil
Our unchanging chores,
And to feel like two felons
Behind dungeon-like doors.

We will work at our weaving
For pennies, not pounds;
A lugubrious life,
Then a grave in the ground.

It is a good idea to know which publishers publish which stories. For example, there is no sense in sending a picture book text to a publisher who does not publish picture books.

Over Now

Good night...
Yeah, its over now, but I can breathe somehow
When its all worn out, Id rather go without
You know its been on my mind
Could you stand right there
Look me straight in the eye and say
That its over now
We pay our debt sometime
Well its over now, yet I can see somehow
When its all gone wrong, its hard to be so strong
You know its been on my mind
Could you stand right there
Look me straight in the eye and say
That its over now
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime
Guess its over now, I seem alive somehow
When its out of sight, just wait and do your time
You know its been on my mind
Could I stand right here
Look myself in the eye and say
That its over now
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime

To Mr. Murray (Strahan, Tonson Lintot Of The Times)

Strahan, Tonson Lintot of the times,
Patron and publisher of rhymes,
For thee the bard up Pindus climbs,
My Murray.

To thee, with hope and terror dumb,
The unedged MS. authors come;
Thou printest all - and sellest some--
My Murray.

Upon thy table's baize so green
The last new Quarterly is seen,--
But where is thy new Magazine,
My Murray?

Along thy sprucest bookshelves shine
The works thou deemest most divine-
The 'Art of Cookery,' and mine,
My Murray.

Tours, Travels, Essays, too, I wist,
And Sermons, to thy mill bring grist;
And then thou hast the 'Navy List,'
My Murray.

And Heaven forbid I should conclude
Without 'the Board of Longitude,'
Although this narrow paper would,
My Murray.

What Hope For Man When His Time Is Spend

(in answer to Sally-Ann Murray)

What hope for man when his time is spend,
when life nears its end?
Life has rushed by
and now the journey is almost done,

but the big waves still rush,
as the race of life is still on
and although not yet near to despair,
but in disrepair but not beyond loving care,

shattered the boat rides the streaming sea
heaving up and down, still sailing right into the storm
with the tiller man peering
at a cloud filled sky, praying that his course is true

with no time to contemplate,
but only to react to face the sea,
to try and weather the storm
until the storm breaks and spent he reaches endless tranquillity.

Nest In My Bed

Enough books to create
ambiance in my room -
build a nest in my bed,
anxiety requires travel
between quotes I love

Can't spend three days in
spearmint only, need some
chocolate, meat & veggies
also, books in all flavours,
teddies and my paper-doll

Vivid Verse, Soul Music by
Pratchett, Agatha Christie -
tie down my mind at night &
for the trip by bus, a juvenile
Horror High - Killer Instinct

To combat all fear - Feet of
Clay - should speeches be
too menacing, words can
change mental states -
I feel secure

In preternatural spheres, no
emotional upset - books are
survival, nourishment and
divine help all in one

I Cannot Save You from Yourself

I cannot save you from yourself,
from your father who died,
from your mother
who likes to quarrel with you
from every man that has broken your heart

but I can be there for you
when you need me,
try and bring tranquillity
after we visited your mother
listen and try to understand
about the things that worry you

and hugging and kissing
I do fairly well
and she looked at me
quite carefully
as if I had spoken pure truths.

Will I Still Write Poems When I Can No Longer Publish Or Post Them?

Will I still write poems when I can no longer publish or post them?
Of course I will-
I wrote poetry for years
when I knew their only readers were hoped- for ones-

I will write my poems
because they are my soul
my confessiion
my expression of deepest feeling
because they give meaning to my life-

I will write poemw as long as I can-
publish or post or not-

When a man hath no freedom to fight for at home,
Let him combat for that of his neighbours;
Let him think of the glories of Greece and of Rome,
And get knock'd on the head for his labours.

To do good to mankind is the chivalrous plan,
And is always as nobly requited;
Then battle for freedom wherever you can,
And, if not shot or hang'd, you'll get knighted.

Early Works - Emptiness

The sun rose this morning
to herald a beautiful day
the sky was blue
birds flew on currents of wind
but my mind has been filled
with confusion and torment
of which way to go.
I’ve looked at the horizons
and dreams of being there
to warm in the sunshine
of a lovely spring day.
Work is unfortunate
but has to be done.
It keeps us away from our dreams
our hopes and our prayers.
We’re trapped on a treadmill
where there seems no escape
from morning until night,
day in, day out,
year in, year out.
The only escape is a hole in the ground
eternal peace they call it,
but you know nothing
as nothing survives.

Escape

Escape
Escape

That one word resonates in my mind

I need an escape a reprieve from
All this energy surrounding me

Escape
Escape

I want to be let out for awhile

To be free and alone
To do what I want without interference

Escape
Escape

I don't wanna hear arguing

Or little petty problems
I want to not have to do anything

Escape
Escape

I want to Escape

Take A Chance On Me

(b. andersson / b. ulvaeus)
If you change your mind, Im the first in line.
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
If you need me, let me know, and Ill be around.
If youve got no place to go, when youre feeling down.
If youre all alone when the pretty birds have flown.
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie.
If you put me to the test, if you let me try.
Take a chance on me. (come on, give me a break will ya? )
Take a chance on me.
We can go dancing, we can go walking,
As long as were together. (together)
Listen to some music, maybe just talking,
Get to know you better. (better)
cos you know Ive got so much that I wanna do,
When I dream Im alone with you.
Its magic!
You wanted to leave me there, afraid of a love affair,
But I think you know, that I cant let go.
If you change your mind, Im the first in line.
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
If you need me, let me know, and Ill be around.
If youve got no place to go, when youre feeling down.
(take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me)
If youre all alone when the pretty birds have flown.
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie.
If you put me to the test, if you let me try.
Take a chance on me. (thats all I ask of you honey)
Take a chance on me.
Oh you can take your time baby, Im in no hurry,
I know Im gonna get ya. (get ya)
You dont wanna hurt me, baby dont worry,
I aint gonna let ya. (let ya)
Let me tell you now: my love is strong enough
To last when things are rough.
Its magic!
You say that I waste my time, but I cant get you off my mind,
No I cant let go, cos I love you so.
Hopping in...
If you like what youre seeing take a chance with me, ya!
You wont be grabbed, if youre feeling horny.
Well, youve passes so you got to know this precious property.
I dont know the lads, so call me mc k.
Nobody sits, understand me clearly.
However hard he try, could he never own me.
We all fit nice and just move freely.
Special k, what he says all said carefully.
Me not sit all along and just wait by phone.
Not call me cause me never, never home ya.
Machinegun as we get the wrong one.
Master mark, master paul, mister luke and john,
If we like what we see we chance a situation.
Nothing dont pay nothing, maybe see what follow on.
What a jill may do if the right man come?
Hey reagge boat, come we just have a little fun!
Go now!
Pabbabbabba ba, pabbabbabbabba ba ba
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie.
If you put me to the test, if you let me try.
(take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me)
If youre all alone when the pretty birds have flown.
Honey Im still free, take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie.
If you put me to the test, if you let me try.
(take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me)

One More Chance

The city is quiet, too cold to walk alone
Strangers in overcoats hurry on home
Tonight Ive been walking in the rain
Someones been talking and Ive got the blame
Chained, framed, you know what I mean
Push me in a corner and Ill scream
Just give me one more, one more chance
One more, one more chance
I will find out wherever you are
Drinking in another club or driving in your car
Walking through empty streets
Stupid fool, that was yours for keeps
Chained, framed, you know what I mean
Push me in a corner and Ill scream
One more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more chance, one more chance tonight
The city is quiet, too cold to walk alone
Strangers in overcoats hurry on home
Tonight Ive been walking in the rain
Someones been talking and Ive got the blame
Chained, framed, you know what I mean
Push me in a corner and Ill scream
Just give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more chance, one more chance tonight
Youre so extreme
I want to take you home with me
Come on, tell me one more time
I dont mind, baby, I dont mind
I dont mind
Just give me one more ...
Push me in the corner and Ill scream ...
One more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more, one more chance
Give me one more chance, one more chance
Just give me one more
One more
One more, one more chance
Give me one more chance, one more chance to-...
I dont mind ...

We’re Indians First and Lastly!

We’re Indians firstly!
And that’s the way, we’re known all o’er the globe;
And that is what we tell the world around;
This is our primary identity.

We’re Indians firstly!
We may belong to any state by birth;
Then come our language, creed, community;
We’re Indians primarily!

We’re Indians firstly!
United are we by the tricolor;
The soil is one, though states be many;
We’re Indians basically!

We’re proud of our rich our Indian heritage;
Our thirst is quenched by rivers of India;
Our hunger is appeased by crops grown here;
We’re Indians first and ultimately!

Let none dare try to sow seeds of discord;
The Indian’s free to live in any state;
When asked, let always be our reply,
‘We’re Indians firstly!

God gave one sun and moon to all of us;
We live under the sky, our common roof;
We enjoy freedom got by same ‘Struggle’!
We’re Indians all, firstly!

We’re Indians firstly!
Our patriotism is Indianness;
Our pride’s in being born as Indians;
We’re Indians first and lastly!

All Indians are our brothers and sisters;
We love our fellowmen as our brethren;
Same blood of oneness flows within us all;
We’re Indians first, always, ultimately!

‘Jai Hind! Jai Bharat! Jai bharatiya! Jai bharatvaasi!

A Paper-boat just on the Sea!

A paper-boat, I tend to be!
The sea of life is too stormy;
Afraid I am, it could sink me,
Before I can reach land’s safety!

But if He wants, the Almighty,
Could work miracles still for me;
And guide the boat to shore safely,
And keep me dry eternally!

A paper-boat just on the sea!
How can it float for long freely?
And when the sea becomes angry,
Can it escape its cruelty?

But all the same, I move slowly;
Nothing on earth can deter me;
Unless something so cowardly,
Drenches the boat mercilessly.

A paper-boat just on the sea!
I know I must make it surely;
And when I reach the shore, may be,
I will feel immensely happy!

A paper-boat just on life’s sea!
Who else would want to be like me?
God is my guide and my safety;
In Him, I have strong faith truly!

A paper-boat just on the sea!
A paper-boat, I tend to be;
A paper-boat, I want to be-
A paper-boat just on life’s sea!

Onward

Don't we all wonder, remotely
- in ways we cannot even fully understand -
'What's this all about? '
Age has invaded our mind
and hearts.
Onward we march.
Life has invaded our spirits
and souls.
As onward we march.
The future flows right on past
behind us.
And yet onward we march.
Living is a passing glance
a long goodbye.
Onward we march.
Where we are bound
no eye has seen
no tongue can tell
no mind does fathom.
Still onward we march.
On the trail of time lost
we take the exit to eternity.
Ever onward we march.
Do we wonder
what a wonder it is
that we're marching into?
We should.
We shall.
We are.
Through it all, onward we march.
Onward...

No words to push

I have no words to push
As mind has stopped the rush
It fails to create impression
What is use of my obsession?

I may think lots of things
It may be irrelevant for any kind of thinking
Why should I thrust upon their intelligent mind?
Readers are brave enough to think and find

Never think you are the only one person
That thinks of high ideology with reasons
Others are not merely meant for at receiving end
They may speak less or not react as reader friend

I still may want to probe their mind with opinion
Many come out with "like" and act as true companion
I wish them to come out with critical comments
So break can be applied with no resentment

It creates man to man liking
As reader and as poet much to the disliking
I shall value them most in any enterprise
As they can at any time spring the surprise?

What am I today is of their unstinted support
Otherwise how can the boat reach at the port?
I shall endeavor on their useful advice
Prove true to the expectation without any misses

Well you're out there, on the highway
While you're drivin', a-roll on by
Goin' south between the bridges
While the river's runnin' dry
And if ya can't come home
Please send your mind

On the train that sees the road

Please send your mind
