CASTLE of SPIRITS
The nape of my neck, unexpectedly teased -
by a stray draft wafting like culs of stringed cobweb,
clinging to the hairs of my scruff as i -
shuffle my feet along the cracks of this old parquet floor.
I stop to brush away the silk-thread from my neck,
but nothing is there, nothing, and then i -
hear the whistle of the wind revealing its ruse,
bouncing 'gainst the walls of a spine narrow hallway,
claustrophobically surfing for the exodus
of open windows.
The inhale of mahogany and rosewood -
ancient castles capture moments through sense,
echo and solitude.
You and i share our lonliness
over sips of Jeroboam, and i -
wonder if the legend King of Israel
would imbibe with us, if our spirits
could sojourn back by sundial -
to eighth century b.c....renounce Judah,
allow us to stay the night with in his castle.
You tell me the wine has made your flesh very warm, and you -
ask me if i'd spill the caraf o'er your moist olive breasts,
place my lips between the streaking drops of spirit juice, and i -
follow them on their warm, southern course.
This castle, now my throne of thirst, and you -
are my poteable Queen, my chalice of yen, and i -
never tasted wine so sweet before,
then again, i always knew a mere dropp of you
could intoxicate me so.

Sand Castles
(words & music by david hess - herb goldberg)
At night
When the sky is still
When the south wind blows
And the air is warm
Theres a world thats born
And for every child on the beach that day
Stands a castle tall and proud
And the warm wind crawls through the castle walls
And the nightfolk wake as the warm wind calls
At night
When the sky is still
When the south wind blows
And the air is warm
Theres a world thats born
Then the fiddler crab plays his violin
On the back of a dancing whale
While the mermaid sing to the shell they bring
And the dragon leads with his sweeping tail
At night
When the sky is still
When the south wind blows
And the air is warm
Theres a world thats born
For the rosy dawn
Brings the children on to the beach thats bright and new
And the nightfolk know as the castles grow
They will play once more as the children do
At night
When the sky is still
When the south wind blows
And the air is warm
Theres a world thats born
A world thats born
Theres a world thats born
A world thats born

My Castle In A Tree
As the sweet rain smears the watercolor world
And the beams of sunshine are stirred into it
As the trees ripple and splash around me
And my knees melt into the ground
The enormous trunk looms before me
My castle in a tree
Roots run in muscular veins down the mammoth redwood
They are the perfect staircase for me to ascend
As my swollen tears float off to space
The castle doors open to greet me
And my face is bathed in lamplight from within
My castle in a tree
The walls breathe a sigh of welcome
Flames leap onto every white wax candle
I take off my sandals so that my ancient feet
Warm the polished wooden floor
The world, it shivers before me in
My castle in a tree
The leaves, they let the sunlight in
But guard me from the things that lurk
Just beyond the edge of the earth
So that he not a one can see me
And there is not a thing at all to remember in
My castle in a tree
At once it evaporates into the golden sky
My hands and legs enflame before me
All the world is drowned in blackness and
Leaves not a single silver bubble
This is the death, the murder of
My castle in a tree

Kissing The Blarney Stone (Fun Poem 17)
Crane your neck back,
look up the castle wall,
which almost touches the sky
to see the platform there.
Your heart skips a beat,
when you see the narrow stairs.
Fingers crossed you begin your accent
up the narrow curving stairwell,
to the top of the castle wall.
The breeze ruffles your hair,
as you walk slowly around the fortifications there.
The worst is yet to come,
coat off, lay on your back,
to do the daftest thing of all.
You lean back through the narrow gap,
bend your head backwards,
and kiss a stone in the castle wall.

Back To
When the night wind chills your heart
when you are away from home,
you wish you were back there
tucked up in your warm bed
away from the chilling night
that penetrates your soul.
Back to those warm rooms
you call your loving home.
Back to your loved one
who waits patiently for you.
Back to the safety of your dreams
vowing to never leave again,
even if for just one day.
Back from the night wind chill
to your own castle walls.
Back to the place where
your heart calls, home.

A Worn Rose
Where to-day would a dainty buyer
Imbibe your scented juice,
Pale ruin with a heart of fire;
Drain your succulence with her lips,
Grown sapless from much use…
Make minister of her desire
A chalice cup where no bee sips -
Where no wasp wanders in?
Close to her white flesh housed an hour,
One held you… her spent form
Drew on yours for its wasted dower -
What favour could she do you more?
Yet, of all who drink therein,
None know it is the warm
Odorous heart of a ravished flower
Tingles so in her mouth's red core…

If I Could But Roll Back Tyme
If I could but somehow…
Roll back time
Could I once again
Feel your warm breath gently brush my ear
If I could but hold you once more
And feel you were mine
Feel the beat of your heart
In holding you near
Feel my lips once more…
Brush against thine
Could we once again whisper
Words we wanted to hear
Wouldst that again
I could call you mine
Would that I were able
To kiss away your sweet tear
If I could inhale your scent
Like a fine vintage wine
And expressed
my love without fear
I’d ne’er release you
Til’ the end of time
If once…just once again, I could look into
Your eyes so sublime
My eyes fill now with tears
Why was I then… so blind
If I only could but somehow…
right now…somehow…go back in time…

Up To My Neck In You
Well Ive been up to my neck in trouble
Up to my neck in strife
Up to my neck in misery
For most of my life
Ive been a fool
And you know what a fool can do
Im telling you
You came along when I needed you
Now Im up, Im up to my neck in you
And Ive been up to my neck in pleasure
Up to my neck in pain
Ive been up to my neck on the railroad track
Waitin for the train
To cruise on through
Well baby my time is due
Oh its way overdue
You came along and you pulled me through
Now Im up, up to my neck in you
Well Ive been up to my neck in whiskey
Ive been up to my neck in wine
Ive been up to my neck in wishing
That this neck wasnt mine
I was a loser
You werent lost
Baby you were too good, too good to be true
What youve got no one else could do
Now Im up, Im up to my neck in you
Yeah you came along when I needed you
Oh Im up to my neck in you

Have You Ever Tasted The Breeze Of Love...?
Love, i call your name, beckon you to my senses
Won't you love with me.....taste the moist breeze
Your touch, i require when you're beside me, girl
Touch my face.....feel the heat.....burning madly
Upon your breasts i place my moist, anxious lips
You pull me close to my desire and embrace me
Comes the breeze, 'n its genisis of sweeted mist
Raindrops cool my summer flesh......steam rises
Then comes the scent of loves amorous capture
Release the surging pour...of your honeyed love
Upon my tongue, an' l place it on your warm lips
Come with me and pleasure in loves feral breeze

Castle Walls
She ventured out from her castle walls
In hopes of meeting me,
I said: ‘we’ll flee to the furthest shores,
We’ll run to the far countree,
We’ll sit in bliss on a grassy slope
To see our love returned; ’
I looked again at the moat and saw
That all the boats were burned.
‘How shall I leave my castle walls
And all that keeps me free,
I fear the step that you wish to take
Could spell the end for me,
I wish to come, if I only dared, ’
She said in a sad reply,
The moat was still and the air was chill
And the moon was riding high.
I stood alone by the castle moat
As she turned to seek the warm;
‘The roads of life are a trap, ’ I cried,
‘But so is a thunderstorm,
So are the walls of a castle when
The mortar turns to dust,
So are the bolts on a castle gate
When the hinges start to rust.’
‘You weary me, I must be free, ’
The tower echoed, black,
‘As free as the castle walls allow, ’
I called in sadness back.
‘It’s not too late for the grassy slope
To see our love returned -’
I looked again at the moat and saw
That all the boats were burned.

Let This Night Last Forever
Rain drops gently falling
A soft warm kiss you place
The scented flowers in vase
Your long dress in satin lace
Precious moments like this
Here by the warm open fire
Those brown deep eyes peer
I never known such a desire
Let This Night Last Forever
How you truly reach me inside
Like no other lover before
I gently rub your pale thighs
As you keep begging for more
Sharing a glass of chilled wine
I more then desire you ever so
How you know how to do me
And this you surely do know
Let This Night Last Forever

Curiouser And Curiouser Still
Tremors and chills
On nape of neck
Hairs stand erect
When one’s primal instincts
Sense fear or danger
Why then, pray tell
The response
of similar sensations
When warm palpitations
Of pleasure appear
Strange…contradictory…
Responses …in the body human
Occur.. and encompass
in their most curious qualities…
Become e’en more
curiouser and curiouser

Unspoken
some things need not be spoken
they serve no purpose
no use, like peripheries
of a used clothing
anger for instance
not just any kind of anger
but anger for love that was never there
in bed, in the first place, when what you
offer is only your body
your mind goes somewhere
in one corner of your self, like a ball
of thread
a blue ball of thread rolling on the floor
and stopping beside
one of the feet of the lonely table
you try to pull the thread
endlessly wanting to find the end of this
misery,
there is no end to the bad colors of your
dream, there is no light in this darkness
when the morning comes
you tell yourself, this is another day
another awakening
you go outside and look at the garden
and around the fence
carefully surfing each pathway
you pretend again to like the flowers
that bloom for the sun
you pretend some more that you are
sad of its wilting
at noon
you stop on a shade under a tree
and then you begin to think
and tell a story to yourself....
once upon a time, there lived a princess
far away in a castle on the clouds....

The Nape Of My Neck
The nape of my neck has prickly hairs,
sensitive to touch.
I'd give anything to stop my urge
to want it so darn much.
Better I scarve it then leave it bare,
better not to feel
anything that can make it sensitive
so my heart will heal.
Remember the touch. Remember the feel.
Remember the hairs on your neck
And then try and release it.
Keep those feelings in check.

And I Under The Moon
The jug and I under the moon
and my lips around the neck of the bottle of wine,
by the moon light is it full of the flowers dew,
I pour the scarcity of each dropp and it's association
against the bamboo and I watch to need the heron it's
crest off i see it go by as a dragons shadow independently.
Moving off, 'Therefore before the lifting of the glass,
I invite you because of our friendship,
revalations are made as to my shadow which then makes up
the moon myself and it's our three.
Is it not known my shadow follows each movement of my body
swaying as the leaves from which the rice it makes is simply.
Moon of moon shining down between shows us company
and my shadow because I am by you for wine maintained,
as to the spring flowing forth nothing is forever
and would be assisted wise are you adjusted too practice
each our lips the neck of the bottle of wine our pleasure.
As for me and as for you the moon I who am I have begun
babmboo in sleep before I go, the stand gently rising,
you dance and the shadow it moves strangely
and with you including swan song.
I' Between; Still you be looking up at the dark sky
moon smiling down and of which you are consciously, moving.
Afterwards, and you rejoice mutually; exclusively then thus do I
and Each one tried where it was, we laid down our heads
friend of moon, knew us drunk to go off searching for the shadow of your friend. Passion is less this night when travelling.
Under the moon and friends are friends, permits that fact, we are.

The Lookout
Watching the ivy tendrils slowly climb
A glass of table wine within his hand
Windows blowing lace and shuttered blinds
He dreams of burning her with love's hot brand
Alone on second floor above the stair
A lake of dreams too deep to hold him up
Where purple rose clematis scents the air
He sips from crystal etched and half full cup
In stuccoed walls with mother's hearth sun clean
The ships a cobbled town that he calls home
French music plays and no one there is mean
Yet fated is his lot to walk alone
And night the starry cap that twinkles bright
A muse like heavy hair that pours on him
He'll walk with soggy dogs within his sight
And quiet like the sound of dropping pins
But still, and she will hear him softly call
Her loneliness as desperate as his own
Beckoning like a pale ghost wind mistral
And climb the needs of his hearts castle wall

Reality or Illusion
Thirst! Thirst!
Scorching thirst!
From head to groin
From hip to tip,
Fire rages.
My entrails shriek and crackle
As twigs in a forest fire
My nostrils flare
With the reeking smell of burnt flesh
My tongue and gullet
Melt like plastic on exposure to heat
Like a hornbill
I thirst for a dropp of water
Wow! Before me is poised a chalice
Full and to the brim
With scarlet, bubbling liquid
As elixir, suddenly lowered from Heaven!
Extending my hands to hold it
And drawing it close to my lips
Oh! How I missed it by a whisker!
By what magic
By what vanishing trick
From my chalice, the wine drained out
Leaving not even the lees
What terrible betrayal!
As its dry emptiness
Stared at me
Like a tree felled,
I collapsed to the ground
And faintly heard the liquid
Falling dropp by drop
Merging with the dark water of the drains
I felt myself gyrating
Into the churning cauldron below
Was it a dream or an illusion?
Reality or fantasy
Who can tell? ?

Kisses
You've kissed a hundred girls by now
and never found the one
whose kisses taste like cherry wine
and warm you like the sun.
But when it is you touch my lips
and brush them soft and sweet,
You'll lay your life before me
and feel like you're complete.
For I, my love have saved my lips,
saved them just for you.
And now that you have felt them
there's nothing you can do.
You can't go back to other's lips.
They would not feel the same.
The bitter taste they'd leave you with
would have you then exclaim.
'I need your lips. I long for them
and how they make me feel.'
So when you place your lips on mine
you'll know our love is real.

When You Whisper In My Ear
when you whisper in my ear
you must know that i am not really listening
it is this warm breath of yours
that tickles my nape and my hair
my neck is sending erotic signals to my pelvis
i like to turn back to you quickly
so our lips may meet and then
i shall know what do you really want
candidly and spontaneously without words
do not tell me for i always understand.

Thrush In The Fairycastle
In the fairy castle in the back,
A pair of thrushes dwelt.
For wondrous songs I did not lack,
The most beauteous, heartfelt.
Peeking inside of their domain,
You'd see the passing of the years.
You'd see nests if your neck you'd crane,
There they could nestle without fear.
Ever higher the levels went,
As the fairy castle grew in age.
And it seemed as their fledgelings out they sent,
The fairy castle turned a page.
Then just last week I saw one morn,
A single solitary thrush.
Singing on the fairy castle lost and forlorn,
I felt his songs my heart would crush.
All day all night he sang away,
But it was all for naught.
And there I see him everyday,
Lost is the one he sought.
It breaks my heart, to see him so,
His heart like mine is torn in two.
His songs all day and night do flow,
I wish I knew what to do.
They were my companions for so many years,
When I left, they remained.
They sang to me through joy and tears,
Through sunshine, and through rain.
He never wanders very far,
For the fairy castle is his home.
And he sings away at the sun and stars,
But now he sings alone.
The Fairycastle was planted in my backyard,
About fifteen years ago. It is a member of the,
Genus, Night Blooming Cereus, and it,
Is about twelve to fifteen feet high, and extremely thorny.

Streaking The Australian Way
Streaking
Do we do on a lonely campus night
Tvs a drag and theyre turning off the city lights
I remember the days of the party raids
And sitting on combs was a silly craze
We got a new one
And its called
Streaking the old australian way
Streaking
Were bringing back the age
Streaking
The old australian way
Streaking
Its not what you call your regular high school course
Its a little like lady godiva without the horse
You just need a crowd and some confidence
Theres nothing special to wear so theres no expense
Everybody can do it
So lets go streaking
The old australian way
Were bringing back the age
Streaking
The old australian way
Me and my lady are going to get away
Then go streaking night and day
We felt for awhile there was nothing new to try
You dont have to smoke it but it still gets you high
You just need a mg to get away
And maybe a nice warm sunny day
Anybody can do it
So lets go streaking the old australian way
Were bringing back the age
Streaking
